75. Chase Sapphire Smackdown: Preferred vs Reserve – Which Card Wins Your Wallet?07 May 202400:22:11

Ever wonder whether the Chase Sapphire Preferred or Chase Sapphire Reserve is the right card for you? Well, today we're diving deep into both to help you figure out which card might fit your wallet better.

Hey, we're the Travel Mom Squad (Pam, Jess, and Alex), and in today's chat, we're breaking down everything you need to know about these two popular cards from Chase. From the nitty-gritty of their benefits to the best ways to utilize their perks, we've got you covered.

The Chase Sapphire Preferred is our go-to recommendation for those new to the points game. With a lower annual fee and solid rewards, it's a powerhouse for anyone starting out.

On the flip side, the Chase Sapphire Reserve is like the Preferred's big sibling, with a heftier fee but a ton of premium perks. Think $300 travel credit that you can use for just about anything travel-related, from taxis to flights, which makes its higher fee more palatable.

Both cards have their merits, and the best one for you depends heavily on how much you travel and what kinds of benefits you value most. If you're a frequent traveler who loves splurging on travel and dining, the Reserve might be up your alley. But if you're just dipping your toes into the world of travel rewards, the Preferred might be a better fit.

So, are you ready to pick a card that aligns with your travel aspirations and spending habits? Join us as we delve into the details, share our personal experiences, and maybe, just maybe, help you decide which card will earn a spot in your wallet.

73. Singapore to Kuala Lumpur: A Points-Fueled Journey Through Asia's Icons23 Apr 202400:55:52

Ever wondered what it's like to jet off to Singapore and Kuala Lumpur on a whim? Well, strap in because that's exactly what we did, and we're spilling all the details on how we turned points into a spectacular adventure. Join us, Pam, Jess, and Alex, as we recount our journey from scoring an insane deal on premium economy tickets to exploring the vibrant streets and stunning views of two of Asia's most dynamic cities.

Thanks to a lucky find by Alex, we grabbed tickets on a Singapore Airlines Global Redemption sale, scoring premium economy seats without the premium price tag. It was Jess's brilliant idea, and although skeptical at first, we were pleasantly surprised by how comfortable premium economy could be. Pam even vowed she might skip business class more often—well, maybe!

Our trip didn't stop in Singapore. A short flight later, courtesy of the same sale, we found ourselves in Kuala Lumpur, where the vibe is distinctly different but no less fascinating. From the dizzying heights of the Petronas Twin Towers to the colorful chaos of the Batu Caves, KL offered us a tapestry of experiences—all without costing a fortune. Our guide, armed with local knowledge and a comfy car, showed us the city's hidden gems, proving that the best tours aren't always the most expensive.

Both cities saw us staying in style at Hyatts thanks to our stash of points and a couple of suite upgrades. In Singapore, our suite at the Andaz was more than just a room—it was our sanctuary after long days of exploring. In KL, the Grand Hyatt treated us to stunning city views and a luxurious base from which to dive into our short but sweet visit.

54. The Golden Key to Travel: Hyatt Globalist Status Unveiled12 Dec 202300:57:12

In today's episode, we're diving headfirst into World of Hyatt's Globalist status. It's no secret that we have a bit of a love affair with Hyatt's loyalty program, and in this episode, we're spilling all the details on why this particular status holds a special place in our points and miles hearts.

What exactly is Hyatt Globalist status, and why are we so enamored with it? Simply put, it's the pinnacle of Hyatt's loyalty program, offering a plethora of benefits that can transform a regular hotel stay into a luxury experience. From free breakfasts for the entire family to room upgrades and late checkouts, the perks are generous and can add significant value to your travels.

But let's talk about how one earns this coveted status. The traditional route requires either 60 qualifying nights at Hyatt properties or accumulating 100,000 base points. However, let's not overlook the power of Hyatt credit cards in this equation. These cards can significantly lower the barrier to achieving Globalist status by offering qualifying nights as part of their benefits.

During our episode, we shared our personal experiences with Hyatt Globalist status and how we've leveraged credit card spending, strategic booking, and even the occasional 'mattress run' to maintain our status. Whether it's the little things like enjoying a peaceful breakfast with our families or the luxury of sprawling out in a suite upgrade, these experiences have solidified our loyalty to Hyatt.

But here's a crucial point: while we're huge proponents of Hyatt Globalist status, it may not be the right fit for everyone. It all boils down to how often you travel and where you stay. If your travel style aligns with what Hyatt offers, then pursuing Globalist status can be incredibly rewarding.

This episode wasn't just about sharing our tips and tricks; it's about showing you the potential of points and how it can unlock experiences you might have thought were out of reach. If you're intrigued and want to dive deeper into Hyatt Globalist status, hit play to listen to the full episode. Remember, the world is waiting for you to explore it – one Hyatt stay at a time!

We're sharing our mishaps not just to entertain you (though some of these stories are pretty amusing), but to help you learn from our experiences so you can navigate the points and miles world more smoothly.

Real Mistakes from Real Travelers

First up, Alex talks about the time she accidentally set her credit card payment to the minimum due instead of the full statement balance. It's a simple checkbox mistake that led to unnecessary interest charges. It's a crucial reminder to double-check your autopay settings, ensuring you're not paying more than you should.

Pam, often nicknamed 'Quick Start Pam,' dives into several of her own memorable mistakes, from overlooking important details like the Chase 5/24 rule to booking a hotel for the wrong date. She highlights the importance of slowing down and double-checking every detail, especially when dealing with bookings across different time zones.

98. Venture vs. Venture X: Which One We Would Pick If We Could Only Have One15 Oct 202400:28:20

Welcome back, travelers! Today, we're tackling a common question we get—choosing between the Capital One Venture and Venture X cards.

Both are powerhouses when it comes to earning travel rewards, but if you could only have one, which would it be? Alex, Pam, and Jess dive deep into the pros and cons of each card, sharing their personal takes on which one they'd pick and why.

The Basics: What Do These Cards Offer?

Before we make any decisions, let's look at what these two cards bring to the table. With the Capital One Venture card, you'll earn unlimited 2X miles on every purchase, with no categories to track. Plus, it comes with a lower annual fee than its premium counterpart.

On the other hand, the Venture X card is Capital One's premium travel card, offering more perks for frequent travelers. You still get unlimited 2X miles, but add in access to airport lounges and a hefty travel credit, and you've got a card designed for those looking to elevate their travel experience.

Which Card Fits Your Lifestyle?

Alex and Jess compare the cards side by side, highlighting which types of travelers might benefit the most from each. For those who travel occasionally and want to avoid high fees, the Venture card is a no-brainer. It offers flexibility and ease, with enough earning potential to rack up miles for annual getaways.

But for frequent travelers or anyone who loves luxury perks, Venture X is hard to beat. The lounge access alone can make the card's higher annual fee worth it, especially if you travel multiple times a year. The additional bonus earning categories on travel also mean you'll build up your miles faster, making it easier to fund those bigger trips.

Ready to Choose Your Card?

Whether you're just starting your award travel journey or you're a seasoned pro, choosing between the Venture and Venture X cards depends on your travel style and how much you value luxury perks.
