Episode 16 | Native Noir | Hill Agency: PURITYdecay02 Dec 202500:31:03

In the neon haze of a stratified future city, an Indigenous detective named Meeygen Hill walks into a case that refuses to stay buried...

In this episode of The Point-and-Quest Podcast, I talk about Hill Agency: PURITY/Decay, an Indigenous futurist noir by Achimostawinan Games -- a studio reshaping what video games can say, and who they’re for.

We’ll explore:

  • Indigenous Futurism and why these worlds matter
  • The Auntie Robo-Dog tutorial (a perfect piece of Native noir humor)
  • Merrium’s death and the echoes of MMIWG2S
  • The stratified class structure of Akâmaskiy
  • Puzzles and plotholes
  • What the game does beautifully
  • What I wish it had done differently
  • And why Meeygen Hill is one of the coolest detectives in modern gaming and why I want to see more of her!

This is kind of sort of a love letter with notes in the margins, a discussion that is part grief, part celebration, and entirely grounded in the messy, neon, hopeful future that Indigenous game developers are building.

Episode 13 | Caper in the Castro 02 Jul 202500:30:11

In 1989, a point-and-click mystery circulated through floppy disks and dial-up bulletin boards, quietly becoming the first known queer computer game. It was created by CM Ralph, a San Francisco artist, designer, and activist, during the height of the AIDS crisis—and it wasn’t sold, but shared, with a simple request: donate to an AIDS charity. This is the story of Caper in the Castro, of drag queens and digital resistance, of forgotten floppy disks and the queer archivists who brought them back.Correction/Update:Since recording this episode, I’ve learned that CM Ralph uses they/them pronouns. Earlier drafts and sections of this video may use she/her pronouns based on earlier sources and interviews. I want to honor their identity and deeply apologize for any misgendering. CM Ralph’s work remains one of the most vital contributions to queer game history. You can play Caper in the Castro yourself, for free, at the Internet Archive:https://archive.org/details/hypercard...For more LGBTQ game history, visit the LGBTQ Game Archive:https://lgbtqgamearchive.com/

Episode 12 | EcoQuest: Click Here to Save the Planet07 Apr 202500:13:07

Before Greta Thunberg, there was Adam Greene. In this heartfelt look at EcoQuest, we revisit Sierra’s most eco-conscious point-and-click series, complete with dolphin diplomacy, rainforest rituals, and a manta ray named Flesh-Eater. Yes, really.

It’s a journey into edutainment, environmentalism, and one surprisingly emotional whale rescue. This week I take a nostalgic deep dive into the EcoQuest series, two point-and-click adventures full of glowing trees, echolocation puzzles, and genuinely moving environmental messages. Be kind. Be curious....and maybe plant something?
