103 Mixing and Mastering: Enhancing Your Podcast with Original Music Beds30 Apr 202300:21:28

Music Beds for your Podcast. Today I'll play samples of music beds that I created and I'll tell you how to make your own for free. So what is a podcast music bed and do you need one?

A podcast music bed is a continuous piece of music that plays softly in the background while the host or guest speaks. It adds depth and ambiance to the podcast, creating a more engaging and immersive experience for the listener.

To use a podcast music bed, it's important to first consider the tone and mood you want to convey in your episode. The music should match the theme and content of your podcast, and complement the tone of your voice. It should also be played at a low volume, so as not to distract from the main content of the episode.

When selecting a music bed, you can either choose a pre-made track or create an original piece. There are many royalty-free music libraries online that offer a wide range of genres and styles. Alternatively, you can hire a composer or musician to create a custom track that fits your specific needs.

It's important to note that the music bed should not overpower the main content of your podcast. It should simply enhance the listening experience and add a layer of professionalism to your production.

Overall, a podcast music bed can be a powerful tool in elevating the quality of your podcast. By selecting the right music and using it effectively, you can create a memorable and engaging listening experience for your audience.

Ep. 99: Local vs. Remote Guests: Is Recording Quality Worth the Distance?04 Apr 202300:20:28

This is Episode 99! Wow I've almost made it to officially creating 100 amazing podcast episodes about helping you create an amazing podcast of your own. Today we are going to have a little fun. This entire episode was recorded live in one take. To illustrate the similarities to podcast guesting remotely to locally. I have two different clips from two different podcast interviews that we did on The Kris and Kristine Show. You have to decide which of them was recorded locally, and which was done remotely with Cleanfeed

There are several differences and benefits to having podcast guests remotely or in person. Here are some of them:

Remote guests:

Convenience: One of the biggest advantages of having remote guests is that it's much easier to schedule interviews with people who may live in different time zones or have busy schedules. You can conduct interviews from anywhere in the world, without having to worry about travel time or expenses.

Diversity: With remote guests, you have access to a much larger pool of potential guests, which can lead to a more diverse range of perspectives and experiences on your podcast.

Technology: With the right tools and equipment, remote interviews can sound just as good as in-person interviews. You can use platforms like Zoom, Skype, or Zencastr to record high-quality audio and video, which can be edited and polished in post-production.

In-person guests:

Connection: When you're interviewing someone face-to-face, there's a level of personal connection that can be difficult to replicate remotely. You can read body language, make eye contact, and build rapport in a way that's not always possible over a screen.

Energy: In-person interviews often have a higher energy level than remote interviews, which can make for a more engaging and dynamic conversation.

Atmosphere: When you're recording in-person, you have control over the recording environment, which can help ensure good audio quality and reduce distractions.

Ultimately, whether you choose to have podcast guests remotely or in person depends on your specific needs and goals. Remote interviews can be convenient and offer a wider range of guests, while in-person interviews can provide a deeper connection and more dynamic energy.

Ep. 93: The Sound of Success: How to Ensure High-Quality Audio from Your Podcast Guests19 Feb 202300:20:52

Welcome to Podtastic Audio! Today we'll be talking about an important aspect of podcasting - guest audio quality.

So, what exactly is an audio double-ender? Put simply, it's a technique that involves recording each participant in a podcast episode separately. This means that the host and the guest each record their own audio track using their own recording equipment. Once the recording is complete, the separate tracks are then synced together to create a final product with high-quality audio. Why is guest audio quality so important to your audience? Well, when someone tunes in to your podcast, they want to be able to hear everything that's being said clearly. Poor audio quality can be distracting and make it difficult for your listeners to follow along with the conversation. In fact, studies have shown that poor audio quality is one of the top reasons why listeners will stop listening to a podcast. Additionally, guest audio quality can impact the overall professionalism of your podcast. If your guests are hard to hear or sound like they're recording from a tin can, it can make your podcast seem less polished and less credible. But, by using an audio double-ender, you can improve the guest audio quality in your podcast. This technique ensures that each person's audio is recorded in the best possible way, which can result in a much better listening experience for your audience. First and foremost, it's important to communicate the importance of high-quality audio to your guests. Let them know that you'll be using an audio double-ender and explain what that means for them. You may even want to provide them with some basic equipment recommendations or tips for recording their audio. Another important aspect of using an audio double-ender is syncing the separate audio tracks together. There are a number of software programs that can help with this, but it's important to test out the process before recording an entire episode. You don't want to find out after the fact that there was an issue with syncing the audio!

If your guest doesnt have a decent sounding microphone, just buy them on of these, and let them keep it. It's selling on Amazon as of now for only $15 USD.

Ep. 92: Navigating Growth Disappointment in Podcasting and Finding Hope for the Future08 Feb 202300:22:11

In this episode, we'll be discussing one of the biggest challenges podcasters face: gaining growth and building a loyal audience. Despite the growing popularity of podcasting, many shows still struggle to gain traction and build their listenership. So, what are some of the reasons why some podcasts fail to grow?

One of the most common reasons is poor production quality. Poor audio quality, inconsistent sound levels, and inadequate editing can all turn off listeners and make it difficult to build a following. The same can be said for poor content. If your show lacks interesting topics, engaging guests, or a clear value proposition, it can be difficult to keep listeners engaged and attract new fans.

Another factor that can impact growth is poor marketing and promotion. If you're not actively promoting your show and reaching out to potential listeners, it can be difficult to build an audience. This is especially true for new podcasts that are trying to establish themselves in a crowded and competitive market.

A lack of consistency is also a big issue for many podcasts. If you're not releasing new episodes regularly or if there are long gaps between shows, it can be difficult to build a dedicated following. Listeners want to know that they can count on you to deliver new content on a regular basis, so it's important to establish a schedule and stick to it.

Finally, many podcasts fail to grow because they don't engage with their audience. Whether it's through social media, email, or other channels, it's important to build a relationship with your listeners and to listen to their feedback. This not only helps you improve your show, but it also helps you build a loyal and engaged audience.

In conclusion, building a successful podcast takes hard work and dedication, but by focusing on production quality, marketing, consistency, and audience engagement, you can build a loyal following and achieve growth over time.

Ep. 90: Audio Quality Control - Creating AI Content: Exploring the Possibilities with Chat GPT23 Jan 202300:28:13

Thanks for pressing play on this all new Episode. Where I tell you some tips and tricks on creating good audio for your podcast. Audio can be a bit tricky, but if you listen back to your audio creation, then you can improve from listening. Listen to your show and find new ways to make it sound better. Your show can always be better. It doesn't take much to make an impact.

This week I play around with AI (Artificial Intelligence). It can be used as a creation tool for your podcast. Here is what CHAT GPT wrote about using it for podcasting. https://openai.com/blog/chatgpt/

[AI can be used to create podcast content in several ways. First, AI can help generate topics for podcasts, by searching for relevant content and topics that may be of interest to listeners. AI can also be used to curate content. By using AI to identify the most important points from a piece of content, AI can help create a more engaging and informative podcast. Finally, AI can be used to measure the performance of podcast content, by analyzing listener engagement and providing insights into how to make the podcast more successful.]

Ep. 87: Happy Holidays - How do you define Podcast Success?22 Dec 202200:20:37

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays as this episode comes out. This Christmas I wish you and your family a wonderful Holiday Season. As the year comes to a close, we tend to look back on the year we've just had.  When it comes to "podcasting" itself, how successful has your show been over the last year? What is your own definition of success? Most of us say, "Having FUN" is the reason you podcast. Its probably the main reason that I podcast. If your not having any fun, then it doesn't really matter what comes next. And just because you spend a lot of money on gear for your show, doesn't equal a successful show. If you are looking to get a dollar return on your investment. Maybe your show just isn't as good as another one, maybe your not as famous, or maybe its just not as good. Dont get discouraged when you create your podcast. It can be temping to look at other shows stats with jealousy.

Today I share the Twitter Pole results and to my suprise on what was picked as the least voted. Podcast Awesome and have FUN!

Thanks so much for listening, I really appreciate it so much. If you need any help with your podcast, feel free to reach out. My email is podtasticaudio@gmail.com

Ep. 86: Audio Recording Tips - Hall of Fame Podcaster, Dave Jackson from The School of Podcasting15 Dec 202200:59:15

Happy Podcasting! I hope your having fun creating your podcast. On this Episode I share some audio recording tips that you can use to help you get the best sound possible. Audio can be tricky to dial in perfectly. It doesn't have to be exactly perfect, just good enough where you can understand what is being said, under any type of playback environment.

I'm joined by Dave Jackson of The School of Podcasting. In addition to being a Hall of Fame podcaster, he is also a member of the Libsyn team. We talked all about podcasting, what makes a good podcast and some insider tips to help you out. His company The School of Podcasting will help you out from started a show, to creating a better show, to using your show to make money. Dave will personally help you out, not matter what kind of podcast you have.

Ep. 85: Podcasting through the Holiday Season - Our Media Host went DOWN!09 Dec 202200:20:26

Happy December 2022! The Holiday Season is here upon us. As we gear up for the Christmas Season a lot of Podcasts will be taking time off for the Holidays. That is totally okay to take breaks from podcasting. But consider that people do enjoy listening to podcasts all year long. They might be forced to take a break from their favorite shows because they decided to take time off this time of year. Which opens up the chance they might discover you podcast. So if possible dont stop podcasting this time of year. Make your show a Holiday Theme like we are doing on The Kris and Kristine Show. All December long we are making Christmas Themed Content.

On The Kris and Kristine Show this week, our Podcast Media Host went down. They had server problems and our show wouldn't play anywhere. Which can put a lot of stress when you are trying to promote your podcast.  So what do you do when that happens? You should double check that you are connected to the internet. Try different devices and see if it plays. If still not working, then Google check if the company is having an outage. You could file a complaint or wait and see if it comes back up like I did. Luckily it was only down for a few hours. But if it was longer... I would consider switching media hosts.

Ep. 84: Good Audio from a remote guest on a Blue Yeti with Descript Studio Sound.30 Nov 202200:19:41

Hey Podcasters! I hope all is well with your podcasting journey. Today I share how I was able to  get really good audio from a guest that was using a Blue Yeti microphone for the first time. I used a few tricks up my sleeve. First I record all my guests via Cleanfeed. Second I will run the recorded .wav files through The Levelator app on my Macbook. Then the final step I used was Descript's Studio Sound feature. Which can work like magic to enhance "bad" audio.

Ep. 83: What is Podcast Production? - Make your Show sound Professional.17 Nov 202200:25:36

Happy Podcasting! I hope that I can be of service to help you create your amazing podcast. Podcasting can be fun, and frustrating all at the same time. A lot of podcasts will record a show via Zoom or something and upload that as the show. Without adding any show production at all. A little can go a long way when it comes to show production. On this episode I talk about show production and is it even worth all the trouble. A few simple things can go a long way when adding just a touch of music at the beginning and even a voice over artist to intro the show. Its all up to you for your show. Podcasting can be whatever you need it to be. The audience is out there, they want to hear what you have to say.

Ep. 82: Podcaster Integrity - Chris Curran of The Podcast Engineering School06 Nov 202201:01:52

Happy Podcasting! I hope your having fun creating your show and if you need extra help... feel free to ask me. Today I mention that you should be honest with your listeners. I know it might sound like common sense but there are some shows that dont. More than just content, they listen to you because they like and trust you. If you remove the trust, then they wont be listening anymore. So just be honest.

I had Chris Curran of the Podcast Engineering School join me today. We talked all about his love of audio production, what makes a good podcast, and how to create really good audio. HIs school is dessigned to help you become a podcast engineer so you can make a new career out of it.

Ep. 74: First time with the RODECASTER Pro 2 - AudioGrams for your Podcast and how they help. 10 Sep 202200:25:09

Hello Podcasters! I hope your having a wonderful time creating your show.  Today is the first time I'm using my brand new RODECASTER Pro 2 with this podcast.  I just purchased the machine last week and I've been playing with all the features to find the best way to use the device for my different shows. On this episode I show you a few samples of what it can do. This episode was recorded entirely on the RODECASTER Pro 2

AudioGrams for your Podcast and do they actually work? An audiogram is a short video usually of a solid image with an audio clip of your podcast episode. I love using them, but some do not. The conversion rate from audiogram listener to actual Podcast subscriber might be slim. It's much easier to press play on a short post on social media than an entire podcast episode.

Ep. 73: 4 Million Podcasts and... You! - Using Sound FX on your Show, how much is to much?02 Sep 202200:21:56

Happy Podcasting! If you have a podcast, congrats! You're doing better than most people who do not have the courage to start just one episode yet. On today's show I show you that there are 4 million different podcast shows listed in the universe. But only a small percentage of them are still creating content. Most have died off due to a lot of different reasons. The article is from Amplifi. And they discuss the fact that although 4 million podcasts sounds large, only a small number of them are still in production.

Sound FX for your show! Do you spend hours and hours editing your podcast with sound effects? I have a folder of sounds and clips I've collected over the few years. On this episode I play some of theme live in real time. Using Cleanfeed Pro account. It creates a multifuncional sound effects "clips" section for your recordings. Just record and press play on the sounds you want. Save and your done.

Ep. 72: Revisiting the First Episode, 3 Years Ago - QR Codes for Podcast Promotion 28 Aug 202200:28:08
How is your Podcast doing? Do you even have a Podcast? Well not to worry. It all starts with you trying something you've never tried before. On the Kris and Kristine Show back 3 years ago we tried podcasting. With an old HP computer and a few cheap $20 microphones we gave it a shot. After trial and error we found what works best for us. A few upgrades and a few years of confidence later here we are. On this show I play you a sample from our first episode we recorded for The Kris and Kristine Show.  If you are looking for an easy quick way to promote you podcast. Try creating a QR code. QR code (quick response code)  QR code (an initialism for quick response code) is a type of matrix barcode (or two-dimensional barcode) invented in 1994 by the Japanese automotive company Denso Wave. A barcode is a machine-readable optical label that can contain information about the item to which it is attached. In practice, QR codes often contain data for a locator, identifier, or tracker that points to a website or application. QR codes use four standardized encoding modes (numeric, alphanumeric, byte/binary, and kanji) to store data efficiently; extensions may also be used The Quick Response system became popular outside the automotive industry due to its fast readability and greater storage capacity compared to standard UPC barcodes. Applications include product tracking, item identification, time tracking, document management, and general marketing. A QR code consists of black squares arranged in a square grid on a white background, which can be read by an imaging device such as a camera, and processed using Reed–Solomon error correction until the image can be appropriately interpreted. The required data is then extracted from patterns that are present in both horizontal and vertical components of the image. The Kris and Kristine Show podtasticaudio@gmail.com
Ep. 71: Podcast Editing with Studio Sound from Descript - Price Drop on the Zoom Podtrak P419 Aug 202200:27:56

Happy Podcasting! We either hate editing our shows, or we love it. Either way you slice it, it can be time consuming. Maybe you have lots of extra time and you can afford to spend hours doing some podcast editing. Maybe you're like me and you have very limited time to edit a podcast. But you still want to put out a solid sounding show. We pay for things with either time or money. If you would like to automate your podcast editing process, you can try out Descript. https://www.descript.com/ It's an all in one editing solution for either an audio, or video podcast. It will take out any filler words, plus fill in the gaps. Also it has something called "Studio Sound" where it fixes your bad audio for your. On this episode I will play 2 sample tracks from an interview guest. One track was original, the next was run with studio sound at 100% setting. The audio difference is noticeable enough to make me think twice about canceling my subscription to Descript.

One fantastic all in one podcasting toy that we all need to have is the Zoom Podtrak P4. And now is the perfect time to pick one up because they just shaved $70 off the retail price. Bringing it down to only $150 USD with free shipping. Ep 70: Making some of that Podcast Money. - Dealing with Guests that your not interested in having on the podcast12 Aug 202200:30:19

Happy Podcasting! Hope you have a podcast and if you do, congrats on doing something that others won't even try to do. Being a content creator can be tough if you're looking for new ways to create content. If you've been podcasting for any number of years it can start to get sale and boring. I encourage you to try something different with your podcast. Your show is your show. You make the rules and can choose to change whatever you want. And if you do decide to change things, you can always change them back. There are no official rules on how you can create a podcast.

So on this episode there is an article from the other week saying that certain podcast hosts charge a premium for guests to be on their podcast. How much..? How about $50,000 per appearance. Now these are big shows with big audiences. If your show is fairly new or smaller you are not going to have people willing the pay to be on your show. If fact the truth is that only 3% of your dedicated audience are willing to actually do anything extra for your show, especially paying  for things. So if you have an audience size of 100 people, that means you might have 3 people that do anything.

Ep 68: Fake Download Stats - IAB Certification - Audio Tips 29 Jul 202200:23:45
Today we take a look at IAB certified stats for your podcast. It's hard to get new plays on our shows. The same goes for all of your social media. What is IAB certified podcasting stats and why would you care if you have them? It’s a certified agency that proves the best way they can that each physical play on your podcast is by a different person. So each play counts as one play. The rules - Each play has to have at least one play by one device, playing for at least 1 minute in length. That gives 1 IAB certified play. It’s a more accurate way to count download plays. Mainly to prove to ad sponsorships. They usually pay on a cost per thousand plays. So they want to accuracy when paying for these ads. Just like a work Time Clock. If you get paid by the hour. You clock in on a device to accurately keep track of the time on the job. At the end of the pay period, your supervisor usually has to verify that those hours are correct. Once approved it gets sent off to payroll to send out a paycheck. It’s just a layer of proof that says this was actually played. 10 BEST PLACES TO BUY PODCAST DOWNLOADS IN 2022 https://earthweb.com/buy-podcast-downloads/ The Kris and Kristine Show podtasticaudio@gmail.com
Ep. 67: Habits that annoy listeners! - What makes us press play on a podcast episode?22 Jul 202200:23:14

I'm back from vacation. We took the entire family to Florida to check out Miami and Disney World. It was our big summer vacation that we've been doing the last 3 years. It was so much fun, and hot. The kids haven't ever been and I've only been once as a kid. We all had a fantastic time. Link to the Vacation Video -  https://youtu.be/sMLJcvVruzs  As we returned Kristine and the kids all caught Covid 19. I tested negative out of the group, which is strange because we are all together. But as I recorded this today I feel fine.

I came across an article that has 7 Podcaster Habits that really annoy your audience. And we are all guilty of doing these things, which makes it ironic. https://wavve.co/7-podcaster-habits-that-really-annoy-their-listeners/

What makes a new listener press play on a podcast episode? Well it turns out it's mostly because of the content of the show. Above all else, they come for the content. If you can deliver great content and great sound, then you should be able to get more listeners coming back to your show. It's not easy, but try to make the best show you can.

So glad to be back to Podcasting! Because of my busy schedule and my main studio being taken over by a guest. My recording space has been limited. So today I try something that hasn't ever been done before. Today I record completely remote on the PodTrak P4 and the ATR 2100 microphone. This is as simple as it gets. I take you on a audio tour of my house and show you sample of different locations around the house. So you can hear for yourself what different locations around the house may sound like.

Ep. 65: The illusion of Audio for your podcast and why it works. 20 Jun 202200:21:03

Thank you so much for joining me today! Here on Podtastic Audio I'm here to help you out with your podcast to create decent audio for your show without spending lots and lots of money on gear and stuff you don't even need. The power of good audio can create an illusion to the listener that transports them into another space. The audience doesn't need to know all the details of your podcast gear. As long as it sounds good to theml, they will keep on coming back time and time again.

In this episode I reference the car culture community. And how you can use performance parts to add more power to your car to make it go much faster. And these parts usually come with decals to place on the side of your ride. To show the world, you have this part, and your car is fast. But some people just put the stickers on the car, without the upgraded parts. To make their car appear its fast. In the car culture, aftermarket performance accessories, all are to gain more horsepower. Whether it’s adding a new exhaust system, turbo, or supercharger. They all add more power to the vehicle. One of the oldest myths about car people is they believe anything can add more power to the car. Including placing performance stickers. As the saying goes. Each sticker can add up to 5 horsepower to your car. How is that even possible? In reality it doesn’t add any kind of performance.

Or does it? By adding a performance decal to your ride might give other cars the illusion that your fast. So then you must be fast.

If you make your show sound good. And make it sound bigger than it really is. Nobody is going to know any difference. The power of audio and theater of the mind. You can be as big as your imagination.

Make your Podcast sound as big as you need it to be. The audience will keep coming back. If you have a podcast and you would like to have me review it, let me know on social media under Podtastic Audio or email me podtasticaudio@gmail.com

Ep. 64: Sound Quality on the Cheap - Honest Podcast Feedback - Paying to Promote 13 Jun 202200:21:10

Thank you so much for joining me today. On today's show I share some basic audio tips within Audacity for those who don't want to spend a lot of money of podcast gear. Audacity is a free, easy to use program that works on all major computer operating systems. With a basic USB microphone and a copy of the Audacity program you can create a fantastic sounding podcast.

On almost every social media platform there are ways to pay to promote your content. On Twitter you can pay to promote a tweet. If you have an episode you're really proud of, you can pay to promote it. The prices will vary based on how long the promotion is going to be. For example if you do a 24 hour promotion it will cost the least and the longer ones cost more. But before you go and spend real money on podcast promotion, you need to get real honest feedback of your show. Someone who isn't' named mom to listen and review it. Honesty is what you need. It's really hard to receive honest feedback on our podcast. You probably spent all sorts of time and energy to create the show, and to hear it's not that great is truly heartbreaking. You can do your show however you want, but I would have someone take a look at it before you pay real money to promote it.

I will do a FREE review of your podcast. Send me your favorite episode and I'll give you my honest feedback. That way you have the confidence to pay to promote your show. Email me at podtasticaudio@gmail.com

Ep: 62: Should you buy the new Rodcaster Pro 2? 27 May 202200:25:46

If your looking to upgrade your audio gear, then the new Rodecaster Pro 2 has been released for preorder. If you already have a Gen 1 Rodecaster, do you consider upgraded and is it worth it? On this episode I look at 3 different audio devices and go over what they can do. Do you need the power of a Rodcaster to create your podcast? You can probably create a show with just a USB microphone and a laptop. Whenever you get into more serious production like multiple microphones and other elements, then a Rodecaster Pro would come in handy for those situations. But it all depends on you and your situation.

Ep. 61 Before we can make GOOD audio, we must understand what BAD audio is. 20 May 202200:20:23

What is BAD audio? Today we dive into some samples of bad audio to help you create GOOD audio. I have some clips from a local radio station. When they do remote interviews, it's usually done over the phone. And even with the big budget of the radio station it doesn't sound as good as it could be. Bad audio can take you away from the content you're trying to share with your audience.

Do you play podcasts a fast playback speeds? That must mean you hate the show your listening. You are trying get through the show a fast as possible. I personally only play shows back in regular playback speed. Because I want it sound as natural as possible.
