Jaissle and Hornicek in, Bruno out: 'Newcastle 2.0'05 Aug 202600:49:52
Matthias Jaissle is the new broom at Newcastle United; following Eddie Howe will be a tough gig, but the German is no shrinking violet and has a shining recommendation from the top. CEO David Hopkinson fires the starting pistol on the project he's calling Newcastle 2.0.
Jaissle's new goalkeeper beat the manager into the building by a matter of hours; Lukas Hornicek arrives after Newcastle activated his release clause at Portuguese side SC Braga. Does that mean Nick Pope will be leaving? It certainly looks like captain Bruno Guimaraes will be joining Arsenal, is there a succession plan for him?
Newcastle's women have announced their fixtures for the new season and the pace of recruitment is relentless as they prepare for their latest tilt at promotion to WSL.
Eddie Howe leaves; what next for Newcastle United?30 Jul 202600:53:20

It's just shy of five years since Eddie Howe arrived at Newcastle with the team flailing at the foot of the Premier League. What followed is little short of miraculous and the man who drove it all will be remembered as one of the club's greatest managers.
But, with a punishing season just gone and another chaotic summer underway, he has decided to call it a day and all interested parties reluctantly accept it's time for a new start.
What next, then? Well, it looks like Matthias Jaissle is the man to follow the toughest of acts. But will he be able to call on Bruno Guimaraes?

Today's show features excerpts from our Eddie Howe documentary from summer 2025... to sign up to Extra Tyne (and gain access to the back catalogue of episodes) go to https://podonthetyne.supportingcast.fm/

Gordon, Burn, Miley: Newcastle news overload29 May 202600:48:46
It's a hastily assembled triple-headline Pod on the Tyne for you this week...
Thomas Tuchel selected three Newcastle players in his England squad, will he be disappointed when only two turn up? Dan Burn and Tino Livramento are the two who will, Lewis Hall is NOT the third who won't; he wasn't picked.
The third selection, who WILL turn up, is Anthony Gordon. However, he is no longer a Newcastle player, having transferred to Barcelona. We discuss the deal, which hopefully heralds a more organised summer for the club.
Gordon's off, then, but Lewis Miley is in for the long-haul. He signed a new deal which we believe to be six years long. It's encouraging news for the player, the fans, and the academy.
Beers (and Chelsea sandwich) for Breakfast14 May 202501:00:13

Eddie Howe's trophy-winning Mags are on the brink of returning to the Champions League next season after a lightning start and a thunderous finish provided emphatic bookends to a nervy bit in between.

The final result was 2-0, at least according to most reliable judges, and with two games to go, it's difficult to see how Newcastle can lose three places in the league. In fact with a trip to Arsenal next, might we be looking up instead!

Helping us savour the success this week is special guest Paul Ferris, NUFC's favourite polymath, who has a new book out but doesn't need any help selling tickets to the launch. There's also a first update from Mark Allison who has reached Pennsylvania on his epic run across America.

Stark Waughs: NUFC strike back to take point at Brighton06 May 202501:13:40

A long time ago, at an AMEX arena far, far away... Chris Waugh watched a Jason Tindall-less Newcastle United fight back to draw against Brighton.

Yankuba Minteh's goal, followed by a bizarre series of reactions, had seemingly put a dent in our Champions League pursuit, but referee Craig Pawson's third penalty award survived VAR and Isak slotted home.

Meanwhile, closer to home at Blackburn's Ewood Park, NUFC Women rounded off an encouraging debut season in the second tier with a 5-1 win. We speak to manager Becky Langley at length on the lessons learned and what we can expect next term.
