Grumio reaches Petruchio’s house ahead of the newlyweds and prepares the servants for their arrival. But nothing could brace them against Petruchio’s abuse. He rejects the meals they’ve made and treats them so poorly that Kate implores him to be more patient. Petruchio insists they go straight to bed, where he lectures her on the virtues of abstinence. Meanwhile, as Tranio keeps up his Lucentio impersonation, Hortensio drops his “Litio '' persona and laments Bianca’s affection for Cambio (the real Lucentio). Together, they renounce Bianca and Hortensio declares that he’ll seek the affections of a wealthy widow. As Perdita prepares for the sheep shearing feast, Florizel flirts with her and vows he’ll stay with her no matter what. Perdita is less carefree, fearing the repercussions that will come if the king discovers his son has been cavorting with someone beneath his station. Perdita’s father, the Old Shepherd, arrives and tells his daughter to greet their guests, including two strangers (Polixenes and Camillo, disguised as farmers), who banter with her about the flowers she admires. Florizel and Perdita proclaim their love for each other as the guests applaud and dance. Polixenes (in disguise) questions the Old Shepherd about the young man who’s wooing his daughter as two shepherdesses, Mopsa and Dorcas, squabble over the affections of the Shepherd’s son. A servant rushes in to announce the arrival of a peddler (Autolycus), who enters with a song. He wins over the crowd with his music and exotic wares as he secretly conspires to rob everyone at the party. Camillo assures Leontes he’ll carry out his orders but secretly informs Polixenes of the plot against his life. Together, they flee to Polixenes’ kingdom of Bohemia. An enraged Leontes claims their flight is proof of their guilt in conspiring against his life and his crown. He orders his son, Mamillius, to be taken from Hermione’s chambers and has her imprisoned on charges of adultery and conspiracy. Hermione insists on her innocence and vows that Leontes will regret what he’s done. The King’s Lords, including the elderly Antigonus, beg Leontes to bring the Queen back. Antigonus goes so far as to stake his own daughters’ honor on Hermione’s innocence. Meanwhile, Antigonus’s wife, Paulina, goes to visit Hermione in prison, where she has just given birth to a baby girl. Paulina asks Hermione’s Lady in Waiting, Emilia, to get permission from the Queen for her to bring the newborn baby to Leontes in the hope that seeing the child will soften his heart. Friar Lodowick (Duke Vincenzo) informs Isabella that Claudio has been put to death on Angelo’s orders. He persuades her to confront Angelo and ask for justice at the city gates, where Angelo and Escalus are to meet the Duke and surrender power back to him. At the Capitol, Escalus and Angelo try to make sense of the Duke’s imminent return and his strange request that they invite the people of the city to air their grievances at the changeover of power. Alone, Angelo privately regrets his actions. The Duke returns the monk's robes to Friar Thomas, and instructs him to carry out his plan at the Town Square. There, Friar Thomas meets Mariana and Isabella. As Angelo enters with the Duke, Isabella confronts him with accusations of his wrongdoings. Lucio vouches for her, but the Duke and Angelo cast aspersions on her story. The Duke orders Isabella’s arrest for defaming Lord Angelo but is interrupted by the entrance of Friar Thomas, who promises to absolve Angelo of all guilt with the testimony of a mysterious surprise witness. The guests assemble for the wedding but the groom is nowhere to be found. Katherina frets with her father until Biondello arrives with word that Petruchio is on his way. The groom arrives, disheveled and drunk, on a shabby horse, with his servant by his side. As the wedding finally gets underway, Tranio tells Lucentio they have to find someone to play the part of his father (Vincentio) in order to convince Baptista that Lucentio is as rich as Tranio promised in Episode Three. Gremio emerges from the church and describes Petruchio’s lewd behavior at the altar. Petruchio steps out with his bride and announces that they have to be on their way. Katherina pleads with her husband to stay for the celebration but Petruchio refuses. Incensed, she rails at him, at her father and at all the guests, to no avail. The crowd gets rowdy and clamors for the feast. Petruchio puts Kate on his horse and rides off. Tranio (disguised as Lucentio) steals a moment to woo Bianca and Baptista invites everyone to eat cake. Isabella, Mariana and the Duke (disguised as Friar Lodowick) finalize their plans to trick Angelo. But even after the bed trick, Angelo persists in his plans to execute Claudio. Meanwhile, the Provost (Jailer) and Abhorson prepare to execute Claudio’s cellmate, the drunkard Barnardine, pressing Pompey into service as the executioner. Friar Lodowick (the Duke) convinces the Provost to send Barnardine’s head to Angelo and say it’s Claudio’s. Barnardine, however, refuses to die in drunkenness and Friar Lodowick (the Duke) refuses to force him to the chopping block. As luck would have it, another prisoner, the pirate Ragozine, dies overnight. The Provost suggests that Ragozine’s head be sent to Angelo instead of Barnardine’s. The Friar (Duke) celebrates the news and privately plans to write to Angelo of his imminent return to office. Plus, Pompey introduces his new podcast, “Bars”! Duke Vincenzo, disguised as Friar Lodowick, visits Claudio in jail and inspires him to perceive his fate in a new light. Isabella arrives to tell her brother that Lord Angelo has demanded her body in return for Claudio’s life. Claudio tries to persuade his sister to agree to the bargain. Isabella leaves in disgust and despair. The Duke, having overheard their conversation, stops Isabella and tells her about a woman that Angelo wronged in the past. He convinces her to return to Angelo pretending to acquiesce to his demand, provided they meet in darkness and in secret. There, the wronged woman will take Isabella’s place, and Isabella’s honor will be preserved. Isabella agrees to the plan. As soon as she leaves, Elbow arrives with Pompey in custody for pimping. Lucio follows shortly afterward and refuses to bail him out. Once they’re gone, Lucio strikes up a conversation with the disguised Duke and proceeds to cast aspersions not only on Lord Angelo but on the Duke himself, saying he's a lech and a drunk, but that he hopes he’ll be back soon so they can be rid of Angelo. As soon as he leaves, the Provost arrives with Mistress Overdone in handcuffs. Escalus has her hauled off to jail for running yet another whorehouse, then asks the Duke, who she thinks is Friar Lodowick, about his visit with Claudio. He tells her Claudio is ready to die. Escalus praises his counsel and also describes the Duke as a good man. The Duke reflects on the state of affairs as he walks to visit Mariana, the woman who Angelo abandoned. Duke Vincentio of Vienna, overwhelmed by the affairs of State, hands over control of the city to Lord Angelo, leaving Escalus as Second in Command. A man of strict morals, Angelo immediately enforces long kept but seldom used laws governing sexual activity, leading to the arrest of a young man named Claudio for engaging in pre-marital sex with his fiance, Julieta. Claudio’s friend, Lucio, learns of the news at a strip club run by Mistress Overdone where a man named Pompey brings even more bad news: all the brothels in the city are to be torn down. Lucio visits Claudio in jail, where Claudio implores him to seek assistance from his sister, Isabella, who is about to enter the convent to become a nun. He believes Isabella may be able to persuade Angelo to spare his life. Meanwhile, Duke Vincentio goes to the Franciscan monastery and informs Friar Thomas that he intends to disguise himself as a monk in order to get a closer look at how Angelo governs. Kate and Petruchio meet at last! The fireworks are lit and the couple goes head to head until Baptista arrives to check on their progress. Petruchio announces (over Kate’s objections) that the two have agreed to marry that Sunday. Baptista celebrates the news and turns his attention to the marriage of his second daughter, Bianca. Gremio and Tranio (disguised as Lucentio) compete to prove who has the most to offer in the way of riches. Tranio outbids Gremio and Baptista promises him his youngest daughter provided Tranio can prove his father has the resources he claims. Once alone, Tranio conspires to find someone who can pretend to be Lucentio’s wealthy father. Back in Baptista’s house, the real Lucentio “tutors” Bianca in Latin and secretly reveals his true identity. Bianca is receptive to Lucentio’s overtures but warns she needs to get to know him before she agrees to marry. Hortensio finishes tuning his lute and takes over from Lucentio to teach Bianca how to read music, whereupon he confesses his love to her. She is not nearly as receptive to this fop, who stews in anger and vows to defeat Lucentio. Chaos reigns on the battlefield of Agincourt, where Pistol encounters a French soldier and spares his life in exchange for his money, thanks to the assistance of the bilingual Boy who has trailed him from England. Fortune eventually turns against France, and Dauphin, Orleans, Bourbon and Constable mourn their fate. Henry learns of the death of the Duke of York, who led the vanguard against the French army, as Fluellen and Gower lament the slaughter of the children who were left to guard their luggage, including the Boy who had accompanied Pistol. Henry is enraged by their senseless deaths, vowing to finish the fight without mercy. Finally, Montjoy arrives to give word of France’s surrender. As he celebrates with Fluellen, Henry spots Williams, the soldier he’d quarreled with while visiting his troops incognito the night before. Henry summons Williams and reveals himself as the adversary he vowed to fight. Williams is contrite, but Henry rewards his pluck and valor with a glove full of coins. At last, the tally of the dead is brought to the King, and together he and his nobles marvel at their lopsided victory. Outside the French village of Corbie, Gower and Fluellen meet a fiery Pistol, who asks Fluellen to beg leniency from Exeter on behalf of Bardolph, who has been sentenced to death for stealing from a church. Fluellen refuses and Pistol storms off, enraged. King Henry arrives to learn that the English have kept control of a strategically valuable bridge. He also learns of the death of his old friend Bardolph, and promises that all such offenders will get the same punishment. Soon after, a French Ambassador, Montjoy, arrives to deliver a warning to King Henry from the King of France: Turn back now or die. Henry responds that he will march on, and if they try to stop him, he’ll soak the ground with French blood. Later that night, in the French camp outside Agincourt, Constable, Bourbon and Orleans tease the Dauphin about his love for his horse, and joke about him after he leaves. A messenger arrives to tell them the English are lurking very near their tents, but they shrug off the threat, confident of their strength and numbers. Only Bourbon expresses any sense of foreboding. The Chorus describes Henry visiting his soldiers at their tents and lookouts, boosting their morale. Later, as he sits with his thoughts, feeling optimistic about what lies ahead, Henry is surprised by the sudden appearance of Pistol. Henry rejects France’s overtures and arrives on French soil, seizing the town of Harfleur. King Henry’s friends from his wilder days, Bardolph, Nym and Pistol, gather at the London Boarding House of Pistol’s new bride, Nell, who had been engaged to Nym. Pistol and Nym argue and fight until they are interrupted by a young Boy who breaks the news that their great friend, Sir John Falstaff, is gravely ill and needs their help. In Southampton, Henry discovers that three of his closest friends and advisors, Lord Scroop of Masham, Richard Earl of Cambridge and Thomas Grey, Knight of Northumberland, have committed treason by conspiring against him with the King of France. He has them executed at once. Back at Nell’s Boarding House, the Hostess (Nell), Pistol, Bardolph, Nym and the Boy mourn the death of Falstaff, then depart to join King Henry’s army. King Charles the Beloved of France, meanwhile, sensing that Henry is not to be trifled with, expresses his unease over England’s imminent invasion. As his court nonchalantly watches a jousting tournament, the King of France berates his son, the Dauphin, for underestimating the power of England, and instructs his princes to arm themselves in preparation for war. With the recent death of his father, King Henry IV, the young Henry V must live down his wild past and prove himself capable of ruling a restless kingdom. With the encouragement of his advisors, Lords Canterbury and Ely, Henry advances a dubious claim to the throne of France based on his ancestry and on a questionable interpretation of arcane land laws. A student (and eligible bachelor) named Lucentio arrives in Padua with his servant, Tranio, to study philosophy. As they take in the sights they come across the wealthy Baptista and his two daughters, Bianca and Katherina. Bianca is trailed by two suitors, Hortensio and Gremio, who are vying for her affection. Baptista tells them that neither of them will win Bianca’s hand until he marries off his older daughter, Katherina. Meantime, Baptista will keep Bianca at home, seen only by the tutors who he employs to advance her education. Hortensio and Gremio scheme to find a husband for the contrary Katherina. Lucentio, smitten by the beautiful Bianca, hatches a plan with Tranio to gain access to Bianca’s house by changing clothes with his servant and posing as a tutor while Tranio pretends to be Lucentio in order to build Lucentio’s social profile and entertain his father’s guests. When Lucentio’s other servant, Biondello, arrives, Lucentio tells him that he and Tranio switched clothes because he killed a man and has to escape the city. He tasks Biondello with waiting on Tranio and instructs him to refer to Tranio as Lucentio. Elsewhere, the self-assured Petruchio, along with his servant, Grumio, arrives from Verona at his friend Hortensio’s house. Hortensio greets him warmly and learns from Petruchio that he’s come to Padua to find a wife from a wealthy family. Hortensio tells him about Baptista’s daughter, Katherina, but warns him about her ferocious temper. Petruchio is intrigued and vows to make Katherina his wife. Hortensio offers to facilitate the introduction provided Petruchio helps him pass for a music teacher so he can get access to Bianca. A student (and eligible bachelor) named Lucentio arrives in Padua with his servant, Tranio, to study philosophy. As they take in the sights they come across the wealthy Baptista and his two daughters, Bianca and Katherina. Bianca is trailed by two suitors, Hortensio and Gremio, who are vying for her affection. Baptista tells them that neither of them will win Bianca’s hand until he marries off his older daughter, Katherina. Meantime, Baptista will keep Bianca at home, seen only by the tutors who he employs to advance her education. Hortensio and Gremio scheme to find a husband for the contrary Katherina. Lucentio, smitten by the beautiful Bianca, hatches a plan with Tranio to gain access to Bianca’s house by changing clothes with his servant and posing as a tutor while Tranio pretends to be Lucentio in order to build Lucentio’s social profile and entertain his father’s guests. When Lucentio’s other servant, Biondello, arrives, Lucentio tells him that he and Tranio switched clothes because he killed a man and has to escape the city. He tasks Biondello with waiting on Tranio and instructs him to refer to Tranio as Lucentio. Elsewhere, the self-assured Petruchio, along with his servant, Grumio, arrives from Verona at his friend Hortensio’s house. Hortensio greets him warmly and learns from Petruchio that he’s come to Padua to find a wife from a wealthy family. Hortensio tells him about Baptista’s daughter, Katherina, but warns him about her ferocious temper. Petruchio is intrigued and vows to make Katherina his wife. Hortensio offers to facilitate the introduction provided Petruchio helps him pass for a music teacher so he can get access to Bianca.
