Changing the way we "see" people can shift the kind of relationship we have with them. Guest Info: Kimberly White is an author and public speaker who focuses on how we can improve our relationships by choosing what we focus on in others. Kimberly spent nine months of research for The Shift included dozens of hours working alongside nursing home employees in offices, showers, vans, patient rooms, kitchens, and one very creepy basement. | Better Therapy for Children of High Conflict Divorce | 20 Dec 2021 | 00:31:50 | |
One woman has taken it upon herself to improve therapy for children of high conflict divorce. She shares her and her children's "terrible" experience with you and then describes how she plans to make it better with in-depth research and going so far as to become a therapist herself. Guest Info: Rachel Miller is a licensed marriage and family therapist and founder of Hold the Vision Therapy in Chicago. She is a PhD candidate at Adler University conducting dissertation research on adult children whose parents had a history of domestic violence and whose divorce and/or custody dispute was high conflict. Rachel blogs for Psychology Today, is an adjunct professor at Adler University, and has been featured in the Wall Street Journal, Bustle, Fatherly, and US News & World Report. Rachel is searching for adults who experienced domestic violence as children by one parent towards the other, whose parents’ divorce and/or custody dispute was difficult and/or conflictual, and visitation/parenting time with the violent parent was required. If you can answer yes to the questions below, Rachel would like to interview you via Zoom about your experience. •Did you witness/experience domestic violence (DV) perpetrated by one parent towards the other in your childhood? •Did the parent who perpetrated the DV exert power and/or control over the other one? •Did your parent’s divorce or custody dispute go through the family courts? •Was the divorce/custody dispute highly conflictual or drawn out for several years? •Were you required to have parenting time/visitation with the parent who perpetrated the DV? •Are you between the ages of 26-38? (We will be expanding this to 41 in the next few weeks.) Currently, therapists do not know as much as they need to about how to best support children living this experience. Her aim is to gain insight into what these children, now that they are adults, believe was or could have been helpful to them during that time. If you are interested in participating, meet the above criteria, and do not know the researcher personally, please email Rachel at rmiller2@adler.edu.
