The pair discuss how the Koala has become politicised, the numerous threats that it faces, and how the Australian Koala Foundation is fighting to protect this incredible species. This includes conversations about their work on the Koala Manifesto, Kiss Points and the Koala Protection Act!

Jack and Deborah also discuss how government and industry must do more to protect the Koala, the importance of respecting Mother Nature, and a whole host of other Australian icons such as flying foxes, snakes, whale sharks, Steve Irwin, and the Great Barrier Reef!

Deborah is the Chair of the Australian Koala Foundation, and has dedicated her life to the protection of this amazing species. She has received one of Australia’s highest individual honours, the Order of Australia Medal (OAM), and she is a leading voice in the protection of Koalas. There is really no one better to talk to about these topics!

For anyone who isn’t familiar with her work, Patrícia has worked with tapirs for over 25 years! Patrícia runs the Lowland Tapir Conservation Initiative and Chairs the IUCN Tapir Specialist Group, so there really is a lot of ground to cover and there is no one better to discuss these amazing animals with!

They then jump into the topic of inclusivity and how the Chester Zoo Youth Board promotes the voices of under-represented groups. They also take a whistle-stop tour through the Youth Boards greatest achievements (including their Youth Symposium and Accessibility work) and discuss two of Connor's favourite under-represented species, the somewhat bizarre aardvark and the unfortunately nicknamed scrotum frog!

They then discuss Connor's current role in the Bristol Zoo education team; the future of Bristol Zoo & the Wild Place Project; and Connor's favourite under-represented species, the Desertas wolf spider – a somewhat spooky, but incredibly beautiful and unique creature!

Other animals mentioned include Lions, Tapirs, Cockroaches and Rats!

They then move on to discuss her roles at some of Scotland’s biggest animal attractions (Deep Sea World and Blair Drummond Safari Park); her experiences running outdoor education sessions with Camphill Blair Drummond and FABB; and her current role as the Youth Engagement Officer for the Marine Conservation Society. On top of all that they also discuss the importance of nature for mental health; two of Katie's favourite underrepresented animal groups (local Scottish sea life and rhinos); and the fantastic podcast, Wee Blue Dot!
