| Ep.220: Stuart Grehan | The Legends of Lahinch | 18 Sep 2026 | 00:48:21 | |
From professional golf, to walking away from the game, to getting his amateur status back, winning The Amateur, playing The Open Championship and ultimately leading GB&I out at a home Walker Cup at Lahinch. Stuart Grehan’s story over the last couple of years is some journey. Six years after his first appearance on PaddyTalks Golf, Stuart is back to talk about the decision that changed his life, the pressure of professional golf, family, finding balance, and rediscovering his enjoyment of the game. We go deep on the conversation with Carla that planted the seed of returning to amateur golf, his first tournament back as an amateur, winning The Amateur at Royal Liverpool, and the surreal realisation that it would earn him a place at Augusta National. We then get into The Open at Royal Birkdale, representing Ireland at the European Amateur Team Championship, and eventually getting the chance to play in the Walker Cup he had targeted years earlier. And what a Walker Cup it was. Stuart requested the responsibility of leading GB&I out first at Lahinch. He talks about the pressure of playing Preston Stout repeatedly, dealing with the enormous home crowds, the atmosphere inside the team room, the Sunday comeback, Josh Hill’s bunker shot, and the moment the noise erupted as GB&I completed an unforgettable victory. But beneath all the golf is a bigger story. Stuart opens up about what “making it” actually means to him now, why financial security and family matter more than chasing the next professional milestone, and why he feels happier in golf than he has in years. There’s also plenty on what comes next: Augusta National, a US Open at Pebble Beach, chasing the number one amateur ranking, and whether Stuart and Raff can complete the clean sweep of Irish amateur titles. A brilliant, honest and seriously enjoyable conversation with one of the most fascinating characters in Irish amateur golf. PaddyTalks Golf is powered by ForeGolf Custom. | Ep.219: Your Ultimate Lahinch Walker Cup Preview | Walker Cup Series | 04 Sep 2026 | 00:41:56
After six episodes telling the story of Lahinch, the people behind the club, the team preparing the course and the players who have actually lived the Walker Cup, we are finally here. The Walker Cup is coming to Lahinch. On September 5th and 6th, the United States will take on Great Britain and Ireland at Lahinch Golf Club in the 51st playing of the Walker Cup. Twenty of the best amateur golfers in the world. Twenty six matches. Two teams. One trophy with more than a century of history behind it. In the final episode of the PaddyTalks Golf Walker Cup Series, I get you ready for the weekend. We start with the basics. What exactly is the Walker Cup? How does the format work? What are foursomes? Why is match play so different? And why can one hole, one match or one point completely change the direction of the weekend? Then we meet the captains, Dean Robertson and Nathan Smith, before going through both teams, the reserves and some of the players who could become the stories of the weekend. I also pick the players I will be watching most closely across the weekend. Then we leave the team sheets behind and get onto the course. Where should you actually watch the Walker Cup at Lahinch? And why the final holes could provide some of the most dramatic match play of the entire weekend. But this episode isn't just about the golf. If you're coming to Lahinch, I have recommendations for where to get coffee, where to grab food, where to have a pint, where to bring the kids and what else you should experience while you're in Clare. Because the Walker Cup is coming to Lahinch. But Lahinch is much more than a golf course. Can GB&I win the Walker Cup back? And will we all be talking about this weekend for decades to come? This is Episode 7 of 7 in the PaddyTalks Golf Walker Cup Series. Let's make it one to remember. Listen back to previous episodes at: The PaddyTalks Golf Podcast is POWERED BY ForeGolf Custom. | Ep.218: Inside the Walker Cup with John Murphy | Walker Cup Series | 03 Sep 2026 | 00:40:01
What does it actually feel like to play in the Walker Cup? For Episode 6 of the PaddyTalks Golf Walker Cup Series, Paddy is joined by John Murphy, who represented Great Britain and Ireland at the 2021 Walker Cup at Seminole Golf Club. John takes us inside the week and tells the story of finding out he had made the team in one of the most unusual ways possible. He found the selection email in his spam folder. From there, it was a week of nerves, anticipation, team bonding and ultimately playing some of the biggest golf of his amateur career. John talks about arriving at Seminole, the incredible hospitality from the members, and how the course became even more intimidating the more they learned about it. He also goes deep on playing alongside Mark Power, a partnership that had been developing since their Irish underage days. Their second day of foursomes started in extraordinary fashion. Birdie. Birdie. Eagle. Three up after three against Pearson Coody and John Pak. John explains what it felt like to walk onto the first tee with the Walker Cup finally becoming real, the presence of President George W. Bush, the nerves, and the moment he and Mark realised they were living out something they had dreamed about for years. He also talks honestly about the other side of Walker Cup golf. The pressure of knowing every point matters. The four foot putt on the 17th. And the feeling of letting yourself and your teammates down when it didn't go in. With the 2026 Walker Cup now coming to Lahinch, John looks ahead to what could be an unforgettable week in Clare, why Lahinch is such a unique match play venue and why he believes the weather could play a huge role. From the team room to the first tee, from Seminole to Lahinch, this is the Walker Cup from someone who has actually lived it. Episode 6 of 7 in the PaddyTalks Golf Walker Cup Series. | Ep.217: Inside the Walker Cup with Noel Fox | Walker Cup Series | 02 Sep 2026 | 00:42:19
For Episode 5 of the PaddyTalks Golf Walker Cup Series, we go inside the Walker Cup with Noel Fox, a former GB&I Walker Cup player who experienced the competition from both sides of the ropes. Noel's Walker Cup story started when he was just 14. In 1988, while attending the Irish Boys at The Island, he saw three players wearing grey jumpers with red lines. When he asked what the red lines meant, he was told they were from the Junior Walker Cup. The Walker Cup was officially on his radar. Three years later, Noel was watching the real thing from even closer. He caddied at the 1991 Walker Cup at Portmarnock, giving him an incredibly unusual opportunity to see the preparation and atmosphere of the event from inside the GB&I camp. He also witnessed Phil Mickelson competing for the USA in front of huge crowds. Eventually, Noel would go from caddying at the Walker Cup to playing in one himself. At Ganton in 2003. And that's where this conversation really takes us. Listen back to previous episodes at: The PaddyTalks Golf Podcast is POWERED BY ForeGolf Custom. | Ep.216: Inside the Walker Cup with Michael Hoey | Walker Cup Series | 01 Sep 2026 | 00:26:00
The Walker Cup is no longer something we're looking at from the outside. For Episode 4 of the PaddyTalks Golf Walker Cup Series, I sit down with Michael Hoey, a former Walker Cup player, five time European Tour winner and current DP World Tour referee, to hear what it is actually like to represent Great Britain and Ireland in one of amateur golf's greatest team events. Michael's earliest Walker Cup memories came from watching players such as Phil Mickelson at Portmarnock in 1991. A decade later, he found himself walking onto the first tee at Ocean Forest as part of a GB&I team packed with future stars. We go back to the moment the Walker Cup became something Michael genuinely wanted to play in, the selection process, receiving the call and arriving in America. And then we get into the matches. Michael was paired with Graham McDowell for both foursomes sessions, winning both matches, before adding another point in the singles to finish the week with three points for GB&I. Perhaps the most interesting perspective comes from Michael looking back on the tournament now. At the time, he was a young amateur trying to establish himself. Now, with a successful professional career behind him and years spent refereeing at the highest level, he can look back and understand just how valuable that experience was. And ultimately, his advice to the current GB&I team is simple: Do it as a team. That's what Michael remembers most. The team synergy. The partnerships. The pride of representing GB&I. And the feeling of contributing to something bigger than yourself. Listen back to previous PaddyTalks Golf episodes at: The PaddyTalks Golf Podcast is POWERED BY ForeGolf Custom. | Ep.215: The Keepers of Lahinch with Brian McDonagh | Walker Cup Series | 31 Aug 2026 | 00:32:13
What does it actually take to prepare Lahinch for the Walker Cup? For Episode 3 of the PaddyTalks Golf Walker Cup Series, I sit down with Brian McDonagh, Lahinch Golf Club Superintendent, to go behind the scenes of preparing one of Ireland's great links for one of the biggest events in amateur golf. Brian has been looking after Lahinch since becoming Head Greenkeeper of the Old Course in 2006, and in this conversation he gives us a fascinating insight into how he sees the course differently from the golfers who play it. From weather forecasts and tides to dew, sand, disease pressure and the condition of the greens, Brian explains what goes through his mind before the first golfer even arrives. | Ep.214: Custodians of Lahinch | Miriam O'Keeffe and John Gleeson | 30 Aug 2026 | 00:36:05
The Walker Cup is coming to Lahinch. But what does it actually mean to the people who call Lahinch Golf Club home? In the second installment of the PaddyTalks Golf Walker Cup Series, I sit down with Miriam O'Keeffe, Lahinch's Women's Captain for 2026 and John Gleeson, Lahinch's Men's Captain for 2026, to talk about the club they know, love and represent in one of the biggest years in its history. For Miriam, Lahinch became home from the very beginning. Her earliest golfing memories at the club date back to 1981, when she met her husband Kevin there, and she talks about the friendships, family and sense of belonging that have made Lahinch so special to her. For John, his Lahinch story began in 1974 when he first arrived at the club as a UCD student playing in the annual match between UCD and Lahinch. He would return to play in the South of Ireland before eventually becoming a member and more than 50 years after his first visit, the club's Men's Captain in the year the Walker Cup comes to town. The Walker Cup is coming to Lahinch. But before we talk about the players, the teams and the competition itself, we need to understand the place that is about to host it. In the opening episode of the PaddyTalks Golf Walker Cup series, I sit down with the Club Historian at Lahinch Golf Club, Enda Glynn, to explore the story of one of Ireland's most iconic golf clubs. We go back through the history of Lahinch, the people and characters who have shaped the club, its unique place in Irish amateur golf and why this particular corner of West Clare is such a special place to play golf. We also look at what makes Lahinch different from other championship venues and why hosting the Walker Cup represents such a significant moment in the club's history. This episode was recorded after a round together at Lahinch Golf Club before we settled into Frawley's Bar for a proper conversation. | Ep.208: Inside ApexGolf with Barry Moroney | 03 Jul 2026 | 00:48:30
Barry Moroney is the founder of ApexGolf, a newly launched AI-powered app combining golf practice and gym training into one adaptive weekly plan. He's also a 5.2 handicap golfer from Adare who self-funded ApexGolf entirely by himself. In this episode we cover the origin of ApexGolf, an idea that first hit Barry back in 2022, stalled for years and finally came together in 2025 when he built and tested his own prototype before commissioning a full nine-month build. Barry breaks down the actual gap ApexGolf is built to fill. Not swing mechanics, but the 50 weeks a year between lessons where most golfers are left to guess, combining structured practice with physical conditioning rather than treating them as separate problems. We also get into why Barry is adamant ApexGolf isn't trying to replace your PGA pro and why he deliberately doesn't want the app to feel like AI, even though AI is doing the heavy lifting behind the scenes. If you think improvement is just about hitting more balls, this conversation will change your mind. Whether you're a golfer looking to actually structure your practice, someone curious about the business of building a golf-tech product from scratch, or just enjoy watching someone put their own game on the line in public, there's plenty in this conversation for you. 🎧 Listen now: www.paddytalksgolf.com Available on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, YouTube, and all major podcast platforms. Enda McLoughlin is the founder of P2 Grips and Trident Align, two Irish-built golf brands changing how golfers think about putting performance. He is also a PGA Professional and former head pro at Wicklow Golf Club. In this episode we cover the origin of P2 Grips, a happy accident with a Scotty Cameron that turned into a proper golf equipment business. Enda breaks down the biomechanics of putting, specifically ulnar deviation and why quietening the wrists leads to better putter face control. P2 is one of the only putter grip brands backed by independent bio-mechanical testing from world-leading putting coach and biomechanics expert Dr Paul Hurrian. We also get into Trident Align, the USGA-approved adjustable ball marker Enda invented after discovering he had a right aim bias. If you think alignment on the green is the easy part of putting, this conversation will change your mind. Other topics: the PGA merchandise show debut in Orlando, a P2 grip on Michelle Wie's putter for her 2018 HSBC Women's World Championship win, the challenge of breaking into the tour truck world, and a teaser on an upcoming P2 x Seed Golf collaboration. Welcome back to PaddyTalks Golf, powered by ForeGolf Custom. This week I sat down with Patrick Keeling, the 2026 Flogas Irish Men's Amateur Open Champion, plays out of Roganstown, currently on a golf scholarship at the University of Louisville in Kentucky. He flew home on a Monday, teed it up on a Thursday, shot a course record 62 on the Friday and holed the winning putt on Sunday afternoon. His name is now on a trophy alongside Rory McIlroy, Shane Lowry, Padraig Harrington and Paul McGinley. Then he drove straight to Portrush the next morning and finished top ten at the North of Ireland. Some week. We got into the full story and there is a lot in this one. The 62, the faith, Louisville, the family and a dinner table guest list you will not see coming. In this episode: ⛳ The course record 62 and what was actually going on in his head as the numbers came up on the board 🙏 His faith in Christ and what it looked like standing over a 12 foot putt to win a national championship, including a parable from the Bible that has become his entire framework on the course 🇺🇸 The real story of adjusting to college golf in America, a broken wrist in year one, a rude awakening in competition and what Louisville has genuinely done to his game and his head 🏆 Sitting at the kitchen table with the Irish Amateur trophy and running his finger over those names 🏌️ Driving straight to Portrush the morning after winning and what it takes to reset when there is no time to breathe 👨👩👦 The Keeling family, brother Sean on scholarship at Texas Tech, sister Alanna competing at Grand Prix showjumping level 🍳 The sourdough, scrambled eggs and black pudding breakfast that won a national championship Full back catalogue at paddytalksgolf.com. | Ep.205: Oisín Keniry | What It Takes to Shoot Golf at the Highest Level | 22 May 2026 | 01:17:34
Welcome back to PaddyTalks Golf, powered by ForeGolf Custom. This week I sat down with someone whose work you've almost certainly seen, even if you didn't know his name at the time. Oisín Keniry is one of Ireland's finest sports photographers. Coming through the ranks, Oisín has since built a serious freelance career shooting golf at the very highest level. His images carry R&A and image credits, appear in national newspapers and international publications, and if you've ever stopped on a photograph from The Open, the Irish Open or an Amateur Championship and thought that's a serious shot, there's a very good chance Oisín was behind the camera. But beyond the credentials, this is a conversation about craft, about passion and about what it really takes to build a career doing what you love. In this episode we get into: 📸 How Oisín got into sports photography and found his way ⛳ What it's like shooting golf at the very top level and what separates it from every other sport 🏆 The moments and shots that have stayed with him 🎯 The realities of going freelance and why he wouldn't have it any other way 📷 How he thinks about a shot before he even raises the camera 🇮🇪 His love for Irish golf and what he sees through the viewfinder that most of us miss from the fairway 🔥 What actually makes a great golf photograph A note on this one. It was recorded way back at the tail end of 2024 and took a while to get out the door after a bit of audio corruption crept in. But Oisín's story is as valid today as the day we sat down and I'm really glad we got it out. Some conversations are worth the wait. | Ep.204: YouTube Golf vs The PGA Tour | State of the Game | 04 May 2026 | 00:36:45
This week on PaddyTalks Golf, powered by ForeGolf Custom, I’m joined by Andrew McCormack for another State of the Game deep dive as we tackle one of the biggest questions in modern golf: Is Creator Golf Replacing Traditional Golf? From Rick Shiels and Good Good to Bob Does Sports and Grant Horvat, creator-led golf has become a major force in the game, attracting millions of viewers and changing how golfers consume content. At the same time, many golfers admit they are watching less live Tour coverage than ever before. In this episode, Andrew and I break down whether creator golf is genuinely replacing traditional tournament golf, or whether it is simply offering something different that modern audiences now prefer. We discuss the rise of YouTube golf, personality versus performance, whether elite golf is losing relevance, what this means for aspiring players, and how this shift is already being felt in Ireland. A relaxed, honest conversation about where golf is heading and whether the game is changing faster than many realise. | Ep.200: The Reset: Why Scratch Golf Isn’t the Goal (And What Actually Is) | 23 Feb 2026 | 00:20:00
Two hundred episodes. Six years of conversations. Hundreds of hours recorded. Countless guests. Countless stories. Episode 200 is more than a milestone. It is a reset. In this episode, I reflect briefly on the journey so far and introduce the next evolution of PaddyTalks Golf. The show now moves forward with four clear lanes: 🎙 Guest Interviews: Conversations with the people shaping Irish golf. 📈 Beyond Scratch: My personal pursuit of plus two and what everyday golfers can learn from it. 🏛 The Irish Golf Chronicles: Audio documentaries exploring the history, architecture and stories behind Ireland’s great clubs and championships. 🧠 State of the Game: Honest conversations about where golf is heading culturally and competitively. This episode also launches the first instalment of Beyond Scratch: Why This Is Not Really About Scratch. Less than two percent of male golfers are scratch. Yet most golf content is aimed at them. This series is not about chasing elite status. It is about decision making. Course management. Eliminating doubles. And helping the ninety eight percent score better without rebuilding their swing. We explore: • Why most golfers do not need a lesson. They need a plan. • The role of ego in scoring. • What Jack Nicklaus and Scottie Scheffler have in common. • Why better decisions lower scores faster than better swings. • And how this series will evolve moving forward. If you are off twenty, fourteen, six, or chasing plus figures, this conversation applies. Thank you for being part of the first two hundred. Let us build the next two hundred properly. 🎧 New episodes weekly. Tune in to the back catalogue wherever you get your podcasts or at www.paddytalksgolf.com Powered by ForeGolf Custom. Since then, his focus has evolved with the creation of Grow Sport, a project designed to help clubs grow participation, improve culture and build environments where people genuinely feel welcome.
