#64 - No Pets Allowed18 Sep 202600:23:13

Send us Fan Mail

Say your lease says no pets and you get a dog anyway. For eight months nobody notices, and somewhere in there you stop thinking of it as a rule you're breaking. Then one neighbor makes one phone call and you've got thirty days.

That's the internet right now. Your Google listing, your Facebook page, your reviews, whatever books your appointments, whatever sends your email. You don't own any of it. You have an account, and an account is a lease.

This episode is about being a good tenant, and about what you should own outright so it doesn't matter as much when you're not.

Ken gets into the most common rule people break without knowing it, the keyword sitting in your Google listing name that somebody probably put there years ago and never mentioned. A study tracked fifty listings doing it. Sixty percent got a warning, twenty percent got locked out of managing their own profile while it stayed live to the public, and twenty percent disappeared off the map. The part that should get your attention is that Google isn't catching these automatically. Somebody has to report you. So when a guy tells you it still works, what he means is nobody's turned you in yet.

Then the other half, because it isn't only rule-breakers who get hurt. Amazon cut affiliate commissions overnight in 2020 and wiped out people who'd followed every rule. Google deleted the free websites it built for small businesses in March 2024, and by June anybody clicking those links hit a dead page. Nobody did anything wrong. The service just ended.

Plus the legitimate stuff sitting untouched on almost every profile in the country, and why it's free.

Next week: is Google actually dying? There's a number going around about that, and it got corrected once already.

#63 - And You Think You're Confused.28 Aug 202600:21:47

Send us Fan Mail

Six words: how do I show up in AI search.

The answer looked great. Bullet points, bold headers, links. It also couldn't tell what the question meant, built its advice out of marketing blogs and LinkedIn posts, and ran sponsored ads for two companies selling the exact service it just said you needed.

Thirty years in this business and Ken sat there genuinely unable to tell which parts were real.

Nobody outside the AI companies knows how these systems decide who to recommend. That vacuum got filled by people who profit from sounding certain, and the machine reads their sales pitch and hands it back to you as an answer. It isn't lying to you. It's an echo with a checkout page.

So this episode isn't an explanation of AI search. Nobody can give you one honestly right now. It's the Bull Detector: four questions, about a minute, and they work on any advice you're handed.

Who makes money if I believe this?
Whose numbers are these?
Could this be wrong?
Is it asking the machine about itself?

Plus what's actually still solid, why your own numbers beat anybody's study, and the oldest rule on the internet: there are no cheat codes, and the technology to catch you cheating is every bit as sophisticated as the tools you'd cheat with.

Next episode: a company with more than 900 five-star reviews that fell out of the top three at every single point on the map. The reviews never moved. Something else did, and Ken can prove it.

#62 - The Outsourced Brain14 Aug 202600:26:41

Send us Fan Mail

Ken got back with a stack of messages... and a good chunk of them were people asking him to Google things for them. Not strategy. Just look-it-up-for-me. That absurd little moment opens a bigger question: what happens to a business when its people stop thinking for themselves?

This week on Over the Bull, Ken digs into cognitive offloading ... the habit of handing every mental task to a tool until the muscle between your ears starts to shrink. He walks through the 2025 Microsoft/Carnegie Mellon research on the "confidence paradox" (the more you trust AI, the less you question it), a real example of an AI report that confidently merged the wrong location's data and almost went out the door, and why Google's own crackdown is punishing the businesses that outsourced their thinking.

Inside:

Cognitive offloading, in plain English (Google put down one dumbbell... AI walks you out of the gym)
The confidence paradox and why your own expertise is your best defense
Delegating vs. Abdicating: the distinction that keeps you from getting fleeced
Why "average just became free" and competency is the last real moat
The "Monday list": how to keep your reps up and pressure-test every answer

AI isn't the enemy. Checking your brain at the door is. The lazy get lazier, the sharp get sharper, and that gap is about to become the whole game. Pick a side.

#61 - 4,651 to 63 Overnight31 Jul 202600:28:29

Send us Fan Mail

One business watched its Google reviews drop from 4,651 to 63 overnight. Terrifying... until you understand what's actually happening. On this episode of Over the Bull, Ken Carroll connects two stories the local SEO world is treating as separate: Google's June 24 spam update and the wave of disappearing reviews and review responses. They're not two stories. They're the same one. Google turned up the sensitivity on its anti-spam machine, and the agencies cranking out AI HTML sites and bot review responses are finally getting caught... but so are some businesses who did nothing wrong.

Inside this episode:

Why the June spam update changed the game (Google now polices AI-generated answers, not just rankings)
Who's really in the crosshairs, and who's sitting at the bottom of the ocean when it goes wrong
The Don't-Panic Playbook: exactly what to do if your reviews start slipping
Why EEAT ... Experience, Expertise, Authoritativeness, Trust ... is your best insurance
The $500 "AI website in a box" scam making the rounds, and how to spot it
A first look at a new series: The Bull Sheet

If your reviews are real, they're not gone forever. The system that pulled them is the same one built to give them back. Here's how to stay on the right side of it.

#60 - The Cookie Crumbles17 Jul 202600:18:12

Send us Fan Mail

For years, the internet let you follow people. Tag a visitor on your site, chase them across Facebook and Google, and close the sale later. That playbook is dying, and most business owners haven't noticed yet.

Third-party cookies, the tracking tags that made retargeting possible, are getting phased out. Not all at once. Not evenly. Depending on where your customers live and what phones they use, some of you are already feeling it. Others won't for another year.

In this episode, Ken breaks down what third-party cookies actually are, why attribution is quietly falling apart, and why your cost per acquisition is climbing even if your strategy hasn't changed. No fear-mongering. Just the watchtower view of what's already happening and what it means for your marketing dollars.
If your ad performance has gotten weird lately and you can't quite explain why, this one's for you.

#59 - The Cheap Guys Are Back (And They've Got AI)10 Jul 202600:31:47

Send us Fan Mail

Cheap vendors have always cut corners. What's changed is the disguise. Now they're using AI to churn out website content and HTML in a weekend, and it looks polished enough to fool business owners who don't know what to look for. In this episode, Ken breaks down why the real problem isn't the price tag, it's what's happening underneath the hull. He walks through the questions every business owner should ask before hiring anyone to build their site, why a proper game plan is the one thing cheap vendors can't fake, and how skipping the discovery process leaves you blind to what your market actually wants. If you've ever wondered what separates a real website build from a template with your name on it, this one's for you.

#58 - Shooting the Bull: Don't Build What You Can't Fix 26 Jun 202600:33:04

Send us Fan Mail

There's a quiet line a lot of business owners are crossing right now without noticing it: letting AI build things they couldn't rebuild, repair, or even explain on their own. It feels like leverage. Ken thinks it's a liability waiting to go off—what he calls "the big burst."

In this episode, he gets into how he spent two weeks fine-tuning the way he actually works with Claude, and the breakthrough that came when he stopped trying to communicate the way humans think and started meeting the AI where it actually processes information. That discovery led to a rule he now lives by: don't use AI for anything you couldn't reasonably pick back up and do yourself.

Plus the real story that made it click—a guy who shipped software written in SQL, a language he doesn't know. Funny until you think about where that software was running.

If you're leaning on AI to run parts of your business, this one's worth twenty minutes before the burst finds you

#57 - Shooting the Bull: Frankenstack - When Your Tools Start Fighting19 Jun 202600:34:22

Send us Fan Mail

Every business owner has had the moment: wait, why are we paying for two phone systems? That's a Frankenstack ... the pile of overlapping tools you end up with when tech moves so fast nobody stops to turn the old one off. In this one we get into why it happens (every platform now wants to do every job ... your CRM does payments, your payment tool does texting), and why the real damage isn't the wasted spend. It's the handoffs. When two tools both own the lead, the customer gets double-messaged. When two tools both touch the money, you ask "what did we collect this week?" and get two different answers. We walk the three seams where this always breaks ... presales to marketing, marketing to fulfillment, and the money ... and the one discipline that separates the owners who scale from the ones who just accumulate mess faster.

#56 - Shooting the Bull: Is AI a Machine or a God?05 Jun 202600:32:21

Send us Fan Mail

Everybody's got an AI take right now — it's coming for your job, or it's the second coming. Ken thinks both camps are wrong, and the truth is more boring and a lot more useful than either one.

This one's off the cuff: from the blacksmiths who didn't disappear (they evolved) to the calculator that was "cheating" in the '80s and required by the '90s, to the famous story about an AI that "blackmailed" its way out of being shut off — and what really happened in that room. Ken pulls the myths apart, puts the tool back in its proper place, and lands on the rule that actually matters for your business: AI amplifies the judgment you already have. It can't replace the judgment you don't. Use it inside your wheelhouse and it's the best assistant you've ever had. Let it overrule the experts you're paying for, and you'll burn bridges you can't rebuild cheap.

No doomsday. No hype. Just where the line is — and how not to cross it.

#55 - Shooting the Bull: Rainbow Chasers and Widget Counters29 May 202600:40:08

Send us Fan Mail

Most business owners think hiring a marketing agency is a one-way transaction — you pay, they deliver. But the truth is, the client side of the relationship matters just as much, and there are two behaviors that quietly sabotage results every time. In this episode, Ken walks through two real stories: the client who couldn't stop chasing the next shiny idea, and the one who only valued tangible deliverables and treated strategy like fluff. If you've ever wondered why your marketing isn't sticking, the answer might not be your agency. It might be you.

#54 - Shooting the Bull: AI Is Making People Worse at Business15 May 202600:26:35

Send us Fan Mail

Artificial Intelligence is an incredible tool… but a lot of people are using it in ways that are actually making them worse at business.

In this episode of Shooting the Bull, we talk about the growing problem with AI-generated overload: massive punch lists, bloated emails, surface-level analysis, and the endless stream of “smart sounding” content that often creates more confusion than clarity.

We get into:

  • Why AI-generated feedback often leads businesses in the wrong direction
  • How long-form ChatGPT-style communication is slowing teams down
  • The danger of using AI without critical thinking
  • Why “garbage in, garbage out” matters more than ever
  • Where AI actually is useful—and where people are expecting too much from it

AI can help you think faster.
It cannot think for you.

And in a world where everyone is starting to sound the same, critical thinking and human connection matter more than ever.

#53 - Shooting the Bull: Drowning in Data (But Still Don't Know What's Working?)08 May 202600:25:40

Most business owners don’t have a data problem—they have a clarity problem.

In this episode of Shooting the Bull, we’re talking about why more tracking, more reports, and more “insight” isn’t actually helping you make better decisions… and in a lot of cases, it’s doing the opposite.

If you’ve ever looked at your marketing reports and still had no idea what’s working—or worse, felt like things should be working but aren’t—this episode is for you.

We break down:
•Why chasing perfect data is a losing game
•How overcomplication is costing you money
•What actually matters when evaluating marketing performance

you need better decisions.

#50 - Why Your Website Isn't Bringing You Leads03 Apr 202600:24:40

Send us Fan Mail

If your website isn’t bringing you leads, it’s not because you need better design.

It’s because your website isn’t doing its job.

In this episode, we break down the real reasons most small business websites fail—from vague messaging and weak structure to missing trust and no clear path for customers to take action.

We also call out a major issue: too many businesses are copying big brands. Clean design and minimal copy might look good, but without clarity and direction, they don’t convert.

Success online is simple—but not easy. It requires clear messaging, a strong offer, and a website that actually guides people toward action.

If your site isn’t working, this episode will show you where it’s breaking down.

#47 - The Game Is Rigged. Here’s How to Survive It.27 Feb 202600:40:50

Send us Fan Mail

Here’s the reality most business owners eventually face:

The system favors scale.

Large companies are not built on fairness. They’re built on optimization — for margin, protection, and legal defensibility. And when you enter into agreements with entities that have more capital, more legal infrastructure, and more time than you, you are not operating on equal ground.

In this episode, I break down:
•Why “legal ethics” is not the same as moral ethics
•How vendors lure you in with polish and lock you in with policy
•Why calculated losses are built into big-company models
•And why assuming fairness is one of the most expensive mistakes small businesses make

This is not bitterness.
It’s pattern recognition.

#45 - Reputation vs. Results: History Isn’t a Strategy13 Feb 202600:31:02

Send us Fan Mail

Legacy media isn’t collapsing because digital exists.
It’s struggling because it’s trying to sell digital services it wasn’t built to deliver.

Newsrooms are shrinking. Journalists are being laid off. Entire sections are disappearing. At the same time, many historic media brands are expanding into SEO, website development, social media management, and digital advertising.

The question is simple:

Does a 100-year-old reputation automatically translate into digital competence?

In this episode of Over The Bull, Ken Carroll breaks down:
•The structural decline in newsroom employment
•The pivot from journalism to digital sales
•Why brand equity is being used as a substitute for operational capability
•The difference between selling digital and actually executing digital

This isn’t an attack on journalism.
It’s an examination of misalignment — systems built for one era attempting to monetize another.

History built trust.
But trust alone doesn’t produce measurable results.

If you’re a business owner evaluating digital services, this episode will help you separate reputation from real execution.

#44 - Google Business Profiles Myths Destroyed09 Feb 202600:17:05

Send us Fan Mail

This episode is designed to cut through Google Business Profile (GBP) folklore by deferring authority directly to Google’s published documentation. Where Google is silent, we clearly label recommendations as risk-based, experience-driven guidance—not official policy.

Google’s Stance:
- The business name must reflect real-world usage and branding.
- Legal registration alone is not sufficient.
- Google may request evidence such as signage, branding, and customer-facing materials.

Step 1: Stop making changes. Frequent edits reduce trust.
Step 2: Align the business name with real-world branding.
Step 3: Correct address/service-area setup.
Step 4: Reduce categories to the most accurate primary + limited secondary.
Step 5: Remove policy-violating content (posts, photos, descriptions).
Step 6: Rebuild trust gradually—photos, legitimate reviews, consistent updates.
Step 7: Document proof (licenses, signage, utility bills) in case reinstatement is needed.

If a tactic requires justification gymnastics, it is likely non-compliant.
Google rewards accuracy, consistency, and real-world legitimacy—not clever loopholes.

This episode wasn’t recorded lightly. We talk about the words that show up when business relationships break down—and how those words often carry more weight than the facts behind them. #42 - The Rise of Transhuman Business: AI Without the Bull23 Jan 202600:34:08

Send us Fan Mail

Artificial intelligence is moving fast. Faster than most businesses are ready for.

In this episode of Over the Bull, Ken Carroll digs into what it really means to operate in a transhuman business world—where AI tools and human judgment now overlap. Sparked by a frustrating spam-style outreach email, this conversation cuts through the noise around automation, “AI marketing,” and shortcut tactics that erode trust instead of building it.

We talk about:
•The right vs. wrong ways to use AI in sales and marketing
•Why EEAT principles (Experience, Expertise, Authority, Trust) matter more than ever
•How automation can support human connection—not replace it
•The growing gap between tools that scale work and practices that destroy credibility
•What ethical, transparent AI use should actually look like for small businesses

AI isn’t the problem. How we use it is.

If you’re tired of spam, faceless automation, and marketing that feels disconnected from reality, this episode is about choosing a better path—one where technology enhances humanity instead of stripping it away.

#41 - When Everything Feels Rigged: How to Tell If Your Marketing Is Helping or Hurting16 Jan 202600:28:56

Send us Fan Mail

Lately, it feels like everything is getting more expensive, more complicated, and harder to trust.

Insurance companies are pulling back. Marketing platforms keep changing the rules. Vendors promise protection, optimization, or “peace of mind,” but struggle to explain what they’re actually doing—or why it’s working.

In this episode of Over The Bull, we step back from the noise and look at the bigger pattern: complex systems, fear-based selling, and a growing gap between what business owners are paying for and what they actually understand.

This isn’t an episode about insurance.
It’s about how to tell whether any provider—marketing, tech, finance, or otherwise—is giving you clarity… or quietly making you dependent.

We break down a simple set of questions every business owner should be able to ask:
•Can this be explained in plain language?
•Is there real evidence behind the decisions being made?
•Are incentives aligned—or stacked against you?
•What happens when conditions change?
•And who actually owns the outcome?

If you’ve ever felt like the system is rigged, the rules keep changing, or the experts sound more like magicians than guides, this episode is for you.

No hype. No hacks.
Just a clearer way to see through the bull.

You can’t control the Kraken.

The internet isn’t a machine you command—it’s a living, chaotic environment. Yet modern marketing is often sold like magic: guaranteed outcomes, secret systems, and the promise of control.

In this episode of Over The Bull, we use mythology to explain a very real problem—how marketing became hijacked by certainty it can’t deliver. From there, we walk through a simple way to pressure-test whether a marketing plan has a real chance of working, or whether it’s built on assumptions, dashboards, and hope.

This isn’t about tactics.
It’s about clarity, restraint, and dealing honestly with reality before money is spent.

#39 - The Problem Isn’t the Gift. It’s the Packaging.26 Dec 202500:02:57

Send us Fan Mail

Christmas is often about gifts—but in business, gifts can be deceptive.

Some look valuable and impressive but never get used. Others aren’t exciting, but they’re exactly what a business needs to move forward.

As 2025 comes to a close, many business owners are left with a scrapyard of things they tried: new tools, new platforms, and big promises wrapped in polished presentations that never delivered real progress.

In this episode of Over The Bull, we start with the meaning of Christmas—not as sentiment, but as substance—and draw a clear line between appearance and reality in modern marketing.

We talk about why “too good to be true” usually is, how ornate packaging distracts from fundamentals, and why the most valuable thing you can give your business in 2026 isn’t another tactic—it’s clarity.

No hype. No gimmicks. Just a sober look at what actually builds momentum over time.

#38 - How We Actually Test AI Tools (And Why Most Fail)19 Dec 202500:22:09

Send us Fan Mail

Everyone is pitching “the latest AI tool.” Most want you to just sign up.

In this episode of Over The Bull, Ken breaks down a real email exchange with an AI sales vendor—no names, no screenshots, just the substance. What starts as a simple inquiry turns into a clear example of how speed, automation, and convenience can quietly undermine trust, brand equity, and expertise.

We talk about:
•Why AI responses that move too fast can signal risk
•The difference between activity, automation, and authority
•How “near-zero involvement” should raise red flags
•Where EEAT breaks down in fully automated outreach
•What serious businesses should demand before testing AI tools

This isn’t an anti-AI episode.
It’s a pro-thinking, pro-brand, pro-human one.

If you’re evaluating AI for marketing, sales, or content—and you care about credibility—this episode will help you ask better questions before you commit.

#37 - Boring Works for Business Marketing Agencies: When What Worked...Doesn't12 Dec 202500:23:37

Send us Fan Mail

In this episode of Over the Bull, Ken Carroll dismantles the obsession with “cutting-edge” marketing tactics and shiny new tools, arguing that the most effective strategy in today’s landscape is the one most businesses try to avoid: consistency, discipline, and doing the fundamentals exceptionally well.

From decades-old sales gimmicks to modern AI-fueled shortcuts, this episode exposes how quick fixes, hype-driven platforms, and abused automation are quietly eroding trust, credibility, and long-term business growth. Ken explains why credibility has become the real currency of the web—and why boring systems like structured websites, intent-driven service pages, proper schema, local citations, call tracking, and consistent content creation quietly compound into real momentum over time.

You’ll hear why momentum beats intensity, how “set it and forget it” marketing is costing businesses money, and what business owners should be demanding from their agencies right now—especially in an era where AI misuse is actively damaging otherwise healthy brands.

If you’re tired of chasing gimmicks, skeptical of easy promises, and ready to build something durable, trustworthy, and profitable, this episode is a reality check you don’t want to miss.

#36 - The Small Business Mistakes That Come Back to Bite You05 Dec 202500:17:57

Send us Fan Mail

Small businesses rarely get taken down by one big decision — it’s the quiet, everyday mistakes that stack up and cost them time, money, momentum, and credibility. In this episode of Over The Bull, Ken breaks down the most common digital and operational decisions that come back to bite small businesses the hardest.

From weak security practices and guessing instead of using data… to cheap hosting, DIY websites, and abusing AI content — we cover the landmines no one warns business owners about.

Ken also explains why running Google Ads to separate websites, ignoring conversion tracking, buying generic “SEO packages,” and using unsupported website themes can derail growth before it even starts. And he highlights one of the most overlooked essentials: your Google Business Profile and your NAP (Name, Address, Phone) consistency — which is absolutely non-negotiable for visibility and trust.

If you want clear, honest insights into the decisions that quietly sabotage small businesses — and how to avoid them — this episode lays it all out without spin, jargon, or fluff.

What You’ll Learn:
•Why 2-step authentication prevents the most expensive disasters
•How bad data — or no data — leads to wasted marketing spend
•Why conversion tracking is the backbone of all successful campaigns
•The danger of “set it and forget it” marketing
•The truth about buying vague services labeled “SEO”
•Why website themes eventually break and cost you more
•The hidden cost of cheap hosting and DIY website builders

#33 - When Bad Practices Collide: The New Web Crisis No One’s Talking About07 Nov 202500:43:29

Send us Fan Mail

The web is changing fast — faster than most agencies, hosting providers, and developers are ready for. In this episode of Over the Bull, Ken Carroll from Integris Design talks about the rise (and fall) of “managed” WordPress hosting, why piecemeal systems are killing efficiency, and how outdated thinking is costing businesses real money.

From the honeymoon phase with WPEngine to the rough patches with Kinsta, and finally finding a solid partner in Pressable, this isn’t a hit piece — it’s a reality check. Ken shares the lessons learned from a decade of agency experience and the surprising truth about what actually makes hosting stable, scalable, and sane.

You’ll also hear how today’s perfect storm — made of AI shifts, bad tech habits, and patchwork infrastructure — is reshaping the web, and what agencies must do if they want to stay afloat in 2025 and beyond.

Key topics:
•Why “managed hosting” doesn’t always mean managed well
•How the web’s evolution has outpaced agency infrastructure
•The hidden cost of bad plugin culture and stack sprawl
•Why unified systems are the future — and duct tape is not a strategy

If you’ve ever asked “Why is my site breaking again?” or “Why are we paying for hosting that’s slowing us down?” — this episode gives you the answer (with a little humor and a lot of truth).

#23 - Patience Is the Advantage: AI May Set the Floor, But You Still Build the Ceiling20 Aug 202500:29:39

Send us Fan Mail

In this episode, Ken unpacks why patience is still the most underrated asset in digital advertising—especially in Google Ads—where slow optimization often beats fast reactions. He shares a behind-the-scenes story of a campaign that quietly matured into a win, alongside cautionary tales of clients who either scatter their efforts or apply half-baked strategies with confidence.

We also explore how AI tools like Meta’s upcoming ad automation may raise the baseline for everyone—but remind listeners that success still belongs to those willing to go further. Drawing parallels to UBI and automation, Ken challenges the idea that “done for you” is the end goal—and explains why patience, clarity, and consistency remain irreplaceable.

#22 - The Myth of the All-Knowing Machine13 Aug 202500:42:16

Send us Fan Mail

In this episode of Over The Bull, Ken peels back the fantasy surrounding AI and Google’s so-called “all-knowing” powers. Using fantasy films as a launching point, we explore the common misconception that these systems magically understand everything online. But here’s the truth: without structure, even the smartest algorithms miss the point.

We ground the conversation with a practical tool—schema markup—a way to speak clearly to machines by structuring your website’s information. Schema isn’t sorcery—it’s a collaborative way to increase credibility, improve visibility, and help both Google and AI platforms actually understand what your business offers.

Whether you’re a small business owner or a digital marketer, this episode will show you how to stop chasing myths and start building with intent.

#19 - Are You Marketing for Today…or Tomorrow?23 Jul 202500:48:17

Send us Fan Mail

In this deep-dive episode of Over the Bull, we tackle two emerging threats in digital marketing that may be quietly undermining your brand:

1. Landing Page Pitfalls
Are you driving ad traffic to low-quality pages? Optimized landing pages now convert at up to 55%, while average rates sit at 2–5%—a staggering gap between real strategy and wasted ad dollars. Companies using 40+ tailored pages generate 500% more leads than those relying on fewer than ten.

2. Brand Blur from DIY Tools
Tempted by tools like Canva? You’re not alone—but overuse can dilute your distinct voice. “Thousands of businesses using the same fonts, layouts, and color palettes” risk fading into “a sea of sameness.” In fact, using these platforms for real brand identity can be like “trying to build a high-rise with Legos.”

#17 - Local Search, AI Style—And Why You Still Get Spam Texts09 Jul 202500:47:26

Send us Fan Mail

In this episode of Over The Bull, Ken breaks down how Google’s new AI Overviews are reshaping local business visibility—drawing from a recent whitepaper by Local Falcon, a leader in local SEO tracking and analysis.

AI Overviews now appear at the top of many local search results, replacing the traditional map pack in some cases and pushing small businesses further down the page. But does your proximity to the searcher still matter? And what role does your content play in getting featured?

You’ll learn:

What GAIO (Google AI Overviews) is and how it works

Key findings from Local Falcon’s study across thousands of businesses

Why user intent and content quality now matter more than location

Which types of queries trigger AI results—and which don’t

And to wrap up, Ken offers a surprising take on phishing scams—why scammers still send obviously fake texts and emails (hint: it’s not by accident).

This is an episode packed with practical insight and strategy for business owners, marketers, and anyone trying to stay visible in a changing digital landscape.

#16: Broken Links and Broken Trust: The Cost of Bad Tech Partnerships02 Jul 202500:28:04

Send us Fan Mail

In this episode of Over The Bull, Ken shares two real-world stories from just the past week that spotlight a growing problem in the digital landscape: service providers that simply aren’t ready for the credibility demands of the AI era.

First up is a vacation rental platform that forces businesses to host booking pages off their own domain—eliminating any SEO benefit and causing a jarring trust gap for users who click away from the brand’s site. Then, Ken dives into the frustrating experience of trying to reclaim a domain name on behalf of a client, only to be met with untrained, unhelpful support from the provider.

These aren’t just isolated issues—they reflect a deeper shift. As AI systems increasingly reward authority, trust, and user signals, outdated tools and poor service aren’t just inconvenient—they’re liabilities. If your tech stack or partners aren’t built for visibility, trust, and integration, you’re already falling behind.

#15 - Strategy First, Platform Second: Rethink Web Design25 Jun 202501:08:11

Send us Fan Mail

Most business owners start with the wrong question: What platform should I use? In this episode, we flip that thinking on its head. Ken breaks down why the real question should be: What am I trying to achieve—and who am I trying to reach?

From DIY builders like Wix and Squarespace to niche industry platforms and open-source tools like WordPress, we explore the strengths and traps of each. But more importantly, we expose how superficial choices—like picking a web company based on a friend’s referral or a good-looking portfolio—often lead to sites that look polished but fall flat in performance.

Learn how to qualify a real web professional, why goal-driven design matters more than flashy templates, and how the right strategy can transform your website from a digital brochure into a business tool that builds trust, drives action, and grows with you.

Because the truth is simple: pretty doesn’t convert—strategy does.
