#14 - Joe Foster Founder of REEBOK 07 Mar 202101:31:38

Joe Foster is the retired founder of Reebok and author.

I loved reading his new autobiography “Shoe Maker” (available now). A working-class story in its truest form. His grandpa invented the running spike in the 1800s under the business JW Foster and Sons.

Joe unravels the entire Reebok story from leaving JW Foster and Sons and the ideation of the name Reebok to becoming the world’s largest sports brand topping almost $4 billion in revenue.

Reebok now has Cardi B and Ariana Grande sporting the brand. Reebok recognised that sport became street. Joe, and Reebok, not only were shoe makers but were vehicles for female empowerment. Reebok’s FREESTYLE shoe was labelled as the first sneaker for women. A shoe made from glove leather that became the perfect shoe to support the aerobics craze.

Joe tells all in retrospection at 86 years of age! He also shares his thoughts on apprenticeships, what entrepreneurs inspire him today and he gives some words of wisdom to set me on my way as a young 22 year old man.

It was a privilege to have Joe on – thanks!

#13 - Sam Capps 28 Feb 202101:11:34

Sam Capps is the host of The Bro Society – an intimate men’s mental health talking group based out of Norwich.

Sam’s own life experience encouraged the development of the talking group. Sam has been on a journey of understanding, accepting and forgiving his own trauma and mental health. He came on the podcast today to encourage me to do the same and I swallowed a bittersweet pill.

Expect to learn how our belief systems are constructs of our experiences and how we can unpick these to live a more liberated life.

Also expect to learn how art therapy can be used to identify and eliminate self-destructive thoughts.

Lastly, hear Sam’s opinion on what characteristics the listeners think make a “strong man”.

Thanks Sam for such a warm and cathartic experience.

#12 - Lewis McFarlane 22 Feb 202101:14:02

Lewis McFarlane stops by (again)...

You might remember Lewis McFarlane from episode number 2 of the podcast. Lewis is an online coach and a really close friend. So, I am super excited that he opened up to me on another podcast.

This episode is a completely different speed and there is no host!

Lewis and I share our 2021 realisations.

We open up about how we have changed since we first came together on the podcast and why these changes in our mindset and lifestyle were critical for our wellbeing. There is really a stark contrast – arguably for the better.

We speak about how we ultimately tied happiness to achievement during the initial stages of the pandemic. We spoke about why having what we deemed as a “bulletproof” mindset was detrimental to our mental health.

Lewis talks about how he has lost followers due to being more authentic online. We speak about how vulnerability is our new superpower.

Lewis also tells all about his relationships and most importantly his plans for pancake day.

I also roadmap my entire genesis story and I detail the “why” behind The Development by David Podcast – including all my personal hardships.

I hope you enjoy this one and we welcome any feedback! You know where to get us.

#11 - Jonny Campbell 13 Feb 202101:38:10

On today’s episode, I welcome walking talking ball of charisma and radio presenter Jonny Campbell to the podcast. You might recognise Jonny (or his voice) from WESTFM Sundays if you’re Ayrshire based. You might also recognise him as JOBBY - as this how he often accidentally signs off his emails.

Have you ever wondered how the heck you even get on the radio? What makes a good presenter? What is the WORST mistake you could make on air? How the call in system works?

Expect to learn as Jonny TELLS ALL.

This episode was a WHOLE LOTTA fun. We had a great laugh -  it is a much slower paced conversation. That being said – there are some major overarching points of self-development laced throughout.

I hope you enjoy this one and we welcome any feedback! You know where to get us.

#9 - Craig Maxwell 05 Feb 202101:35:45

Rad dad and co-owner of Shred Skatepark stops by on the podcast.

Our conversation maps a lifetime of chasing highs, hitting the red and being able to monetise the process.

Craig and I speak about the education system and how it would look in our ideal world. We speak about how culture lag in extreme sports exists in Scotland too.

Craig unloads “how to create a skatepark”. He details the overlooked nuances that create the backbone of a local activity haven and community hub.

Owning a skatepark was Craig’s childhood dream but the fruition of the park became something deeper than that. The park became an outlet for adrenaline seekers, a parental method to control troublesome children and a rejuvenation vehicle for bmx/skateboarding in the west coast of Scotland.

Craig’s mindset and outlook on continuous improvement inspired me – it made me want to live what I love. I hope it inspires you too.

But, how do YOU become a Gymshark? Graeme Eaglesham stops by to unload the quest that underpins his road to sponsorship.

He also provides his insight on what it looks like to become and then embody the role of a Gymshark. He outlays the perks that hold hands with the journey.

He opens up about transferring his virtues from professional football to online content creation after a career ending injury.

#106 Jacob Hawley - What Can You Joke About These Days?20 Mar 202401:01:32

Jacob Hawley is a stand-up comedian, podcaster, football pundit and Arsenal fan. You might know him from Russell Howards Hour, True Geordie’s The Kick Off, BBC Sounds Jacob Hawley on Drugs or Talksport.

In a new age where opinions carry more weight than deeds, whose job is it to change the course of public thought toward a healthier society?

Comedians are under more pressure than ever to portray the role of modern day activists. We find comedians being cancelled as their jokes are being taking as beliefs and their characters being portrayed as villians.

We cover: Politics for idiots, feminism for lads, love stories for louts and self-care for those who don’t care.

In this episode, hear Jacob’s thoughts on:

  • The evolving role of comedians in shaping societal norms
  • Effective communication of ideologies across diverse demographics
  • Creating inclusive spaces for LGBTQ+ and non-gender-conforming individuals
  • The transformative power of comedy in sparking empathy and understanding
  • Aesthetics, Appearance and Stereotypes in Comedy

& Jacob’s new tour “Space” which covers the nuances of Gender Identity and how we can become a more compassionate society.

I am opening for Jacob on the Glasgow date of his tour and you can buy tickets here:

#103 Rob Henderson - Care Crisis: Parenting and the Dark Side of Foster Homes13 Feb 202401:01:37

Rob Henderson is an Author, Cambridge PhD recipient, Yale Graduate, a US Air Force Veteran and a popular writer on Substack.

Going to school is far less important than having a parent who cares enough to make sure you get to class every day. 60% of boys in foster care are later incarcerated, while only 3 percent graduate from college. Children raised in a wealthy but unstable home are more likely to engage in harmful adult behaviors than a child raised in a low-income home yet stable home.

How a child raised in a wealthy but unstable home is more likely to engage in harmful adult behaviors than a child raised in a low-income home yet stable home

These are harrowing facts that Rob has devoted his lift to researching.

In this emotive episode, Rob unveils the stark realities of growing up in a system that often fails its most vulnerable members - the care system.

Rob Henderson's remarkable journey from foster care to elite academia is a testament to his resilience and determination.

From his turbulent childhood in foster homes to his academic achievements at elite universities, Henderson sheds light on the challenges faced by foster children, highlighting the staggering statistics that reveal the harsh realities of their outcomes. Through personal anecdotes and insightful analysis, he delves into the concept of "luxury beliefs" embraced by the upper class, exploring how these ideologies can perpetuate inequality and harm the very individuals they aim to uplift.

As Rob reflects on his own experiences and those of his peers who fell victim to the cycle of incarceration and despair, he challenges societal norms and redefines the meaning of success. With raw honesty and unwavering determination, he underscores the importance of stability and parental support in shaping one's future, emphasizing that true prosperity goes beyond external accolades.

This is a podcast episode close to my heart and I am so proud to be part of a choir of voices bringing this to light.
