The Boys are Back in Town!03 Apr 202300:52:47

Hello you beautiful people. We are happy to announce that the Boys are back. Eric M. Hunter, Ricky Glore are back but not as Reel 90. Oh, no. From the ashes, the on again, off again game "One Star Movie Review Trivia!" is back.

Once a month, we will be dropping into your podcatcher the latest trivia game based on one star movie reviews.

Chasing Amy (1997) [Re-upload]01 Aug 202200:38:14

The boys are a bit backed up at the moment and sometimes life just gets in the way. But that's okay. We've got all sorts to things that you're just going to love. Like, well, how about an old episode? It's sort of topical.

Critically considered as writer/director Smith’s best work, the hosts  of REEL 90 are split 50/50 this week. Does Chasing Amy’s 1997 indie  allure still hold up? You decide…

1 Star Movie Review Trivia Game! Nick's Dead Again!15 Jul 202200:29:38

You heard that right. Nick's dead again. I admitted to murder but Ricky's being silly about it. I mean, we both were there. He was LITERALLY KING STABBING FACE that day. I don't get it. Why is he acting so funny?

Anyway. It's the trivia game. It's funny. It's fantastic. IMDB, seriously, pick us up. Before we go somewhere else. (I don't know where that would be, but seriously, pick us up.)

The Frighteners (1996)01 Jul 202200:53:03

When has there been a movie you enjoyed so much . . . you got the main character's name wrong because it resembles the protagonist of a 2000 comedic drama showcasing the life of a record store owner, and compulsive list maker, recount his top five breakups, including the one he's currently in? Huh? Who would do such a thing? Me. It's was me. I do love High Fidelity. But this time around we have our very own Marty McFly bumping around with some ghosts to the tune of Ghostbusters. What could go wrong? Oh, right. His name. I kept calling him Kevin Bannister and not his true name Frank Bannister. Fucking Kevin Bannister. HE WAS HER FIRST BOYFRIEND!!!1!111!!

So one of us got a casting call. A true casting call. That person was very excited for said casting call. We all encouraged them to do well, to practice, and bid them good luck. Well, it wasn't the call you'd expect. There wasn't even any casting, just some guy with a camera asking weird questions. Who would have known?

What makes a movie review podcast a real movie review podcast? (Dang it, I should have said reel instead of real. What ever, I can recover from this.) Real movie review podcasts watch and critique documentaries. It's true. They do. And that's exactly what we did and only one of us thought it was a mock-umentary. It was me. Eric. And yes, I am ashamed.

“Hide ya kids, hide ya wife, because this movie is burglarin’ everyone’s turds up in here!”

There aren’t many more bad things we can say about the movie, The Super, that aren’t already said in this episode.

It’s no wonder that after this movie,  Hollywood decided not to give Joe Pesci main solo starring vehicles.  We’re not saying that Pesci is a bad actor, but he works better in a  supporting character role, rather than the center of a whole movie.

When you’re swimming and you see a shark, you don’t have to be faster  than the shark, you just gotta swim faster than the person you’re  swimming with.

Without Kevin Spacey in this movie, there is no movie. Spacey gives a  tour de force performance in this film, and even though he is an  incredibly unlikeable character, you start liking him because of how bad  and whiney everyone else is in the film.

Candyman (1992)31 Aug 201401:03:40

“Who can take a sunrise, sprinkle it with dew
Cover it with chocolate and a miracle or two
The Candy Man, oh the Candy Man can
The Candy Man can ’cause he mixes it with love and makes the world taste good.”

I love that they finally made a wholesome family film based off that lovable Sammy Davis Jr. song!….

Wait…, what? Okay, I’m being told that this movie is not what I  mentioned above, but is in fact from a sick and twisted story that Clive  Baker (of Hellraiser fame) wrote.

Hmmm…I guess I shouldn’t have just popped this dvd in, left the room, and let those kids I was babysitting, watch it…

So this week’s movie is about a secret  agent who has lost their memory, and is living a normal life until the  bad guys come back to kill’em.

Nope, not one of the Bourne movies! It’s a little known action movie from the mid 90’s, written by Shane Black (Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Lethal Weapon 1&2, and Iron Man 3).

This action gem has all the great qualities of a Lethal Weapon or Die Hard movie, except a good ending.

Johnny Mnemonic (1995)25 Jul 201401:02:07

Welcome to a future where humans can be walking flash drives!

That’s right! In this 1995 ACTION/SCIFI film, Johnny Mattdamon…I mean, Johnny Marshmellow…crap…Johnny Mnoma nah…

In THIS MOVIE, the future  has become a dark greedy place, where corporations will do what they can  to induce profit margins. Hmmm…the future you say?

We all agree that this is just a dumb, fun  action flick that has a little bit too much goin’ on in it, but love the  fact that we can say that a character like Cyborg Jesus (played by  Dolph Lundgren) exists.

So sit back and enjoy our episode where we discuss Johnny Menards…shit!

Mystery Science Theater 3000 - the Movie (1996)11 Jul 201401:01:59

“In the not too distant future…” How many times have you thought to  yourself, “Man, this old B movie is terrible! I wish I had someone to  watch it with me and make sarcastic and snide remarks during the  viewing…”?

Well now you can with Mystery Science Theater 3000: the Movie! Our  pick this episode wasn’t exactly a hit across the board with our hosts.  With all of the different “riffing” groups that exist now, it’s nice to  see how it all got started. No matter if you’re a fan of the original  MST3K show, I still think this cult classic will be talked about for  awhile, and is a nice entry for the TV show if you’re a newbie to it  all.

A League of Their Own (1992)05 May 201400:59:53

“It’s time to play…BALL!”

Women playing Baseball?!?! Wha-wha-what???

I know it’s crazy, but follow me… At one  time in history, a World War happened, well okay, the second time that  happened… WW2 breaks out and business men decide that instead of losing  money with their star athletes away and fighting in the war, that  they’ll take the best women they can find from around the world, and  have them play baseball. Let me just tell you this…oh how the comedy  ensues! Who knew that misogyny was soooo entertaining???

*spit* well, what do you think... do you feel lucky... umm... Morgan? *spit*

No need to thank me on my amazing impression of Clint Eastwood as I would imagine him in every film he's in because I have no context for westerns. But this one? This one ain't too shabby with an all-star cast.

Henry: Portrait of a Serial Killer (1990)01 Nov 202200:55:35

So, it looks like we just got this one under the wire, and we talk about it. It WAS "released" in 1990 even though it was "made" in 1984. But this one is... well... even looking past Ricky's awful watching while driving, Henry did something to us we weren't expecting: discussing a movie together as a group and then made our decisions at the end of recording rather than before starting. Yup. I can say that this is one of the few times that our conversations moved and changed our thought on the movie by listening to others opinions. And that's what it's all about.

American Pie (1999)01 Oct 202200:51:54

We were all teenagers once. We all have those... urges. Well, not everyone, that we are starting to find out. But boy howdy, was 1999 full of sex, drugs, and rock 'n roll for Generation X. Let us step through a door that somehow became a defining door for all of us on Reel 90. And that door was the pie fucker door. That's right, it's American Pie. A staple in everyone's home.
