Ian runs his own artist management company called Magikal Management. His roster includes Grammy winning writer/producer Harry Edwards ( who has also worked with Beyonce ), Gus Harvey, Oliver Say and hot ticket in town Arthur Black.

Ben Street has had quite the ride when it comes to music, a familiar face to many in Norwich as the man who put together the multi venue Wildpaths festival in 2019 which started in 2019 and now as a promoter for all sorts of gigs across the fine city but he also has a backstory having been the drummer in Coasts - a hugely successful band with top 20 albums and worldwide tours. Here we talk about his shenanigans at a Nicaraguan Waterfall, life as a bona fide rockstar  and how the hell you go about putting on a festival in one city over 3 days with 250 acts .... and also excitingly what's next... enjoy

Simon Acres has been around the Norwich music scene for many years and joined me for a pilot episode to help with learning how the technology works and to help get the podcast up and running.

Andrew Taylor is a man with a musical past, present and future..  he's had his fingers in many musical pies whether that be playing in a Nick Drake tribute act,  hosting The Music House Acoustic sessions for years, curating seasonal playlists, making art and music with his hugely successful album Mohribold (created over 8 years  of love and toil), providing music for his nephew Isaac HP's short films (with well over a million views) and all the time writing songs and  loving his life.

Ben is the brains behind This is Music Norwich - promotes bands and shows in the fine city and is always tipping us off to new acts from all over the country. 
His love affair with music started with his obsession with his dads 7inch records (the Beatles and Hendrix) ..like me in his teens he became  major fan of the Madchester scene and was a religious reader of NME and Melody Maker.  He started following bands all around the country and was inspired enough to start hosting gigs at Voodoo's and other venues.
He has now curated a line up for an all day festival in aid of Prostate Cancer UK a cause close to his heart

Gabby Rivers is a vibey 21 year old singer/songwriter performing upbeat indie/alternative originals with soulful and powerful vocals. She has a 5 piece band and so far in her musical journey she has performed at festivals including Latitude music festival, Reading music festival and Secret garden party. She has recently supported artists including Ellie Dixon, Coach party, Vistas and Tiny Umbrellas and in 2023 went onto release her EP “Disappointed but not surprised’ receiving BBC radio 1 play on Future Alternative. She released an EP called Headache in 2020 which has received support from BBC introducing and 6 Music. Her track UH OH released last year was BBC introducing Suffolk’s track of the week and she sold out her debut headline GABBY RIVERS - TECH SPEC show in Norwich at voodoo daddy’s showroom in 2022 and another show again in 2023.

Hailing from Norwich, UK, SUDS are made up from Mae, Dan, Jack and Harry, four close friends who met in October 2021. Taking aspects from all of their musical interests, SUDS have defined the sound of their new music as a combination of inspirations from early 1970s American folk to the Midwest Emo scene.’

Karl Minns is a comedy writer and performer best known in East Anglia as being one half of comedy double act the Nimmo Twins alongside Owen Evans. Their Normal for Norfolk shows have been satirising East Anglian life for best part of 30 years. 

As a solo performer Karl has performed comedy in Edinburgh, Canada, Australia, Singapore, and Newton Flotman. As a script writer he's written for shows such as Spitting Image, Russell Howards Good News, Have I Got News For You and Avenue 5 as well as penning plays, solo story shows and his own TV and radio series.

In a former life he was a bass player in several Norwich bands none of which survived his tenure.

Arthur Black is at the start of a very promising career - after spending the summer recording a debut E.P and playing major festivals such as Reading and Latitude, Arthur popped along to the studio for a good old natter .  Arthur's melodic and reflective songs already have a dedicated and growing audience of millions on You Tube and here we talk a bit about growing up,  her time with Access to Music, influences and the fluidity of working with bandmates and what's coming up next.   A delightful guest and one we should all be keeping an eye on.

I was fortunate enough to get time to chat to John Osborne this week - John writes poems, scripts and stories. His first theatre show John Peel's Shed was a complete sell-out at the Edinburgh fringe and was adapted for BBC Radio 4. His first book Radio Head was broadcast as Radio 4's Book of the Week. His sitcom After Hours, directed by Craig Cash and starring Jaime Winstone and Ardal O'Hanlon was broadcast on Sky 1 and is currently streaming on NOW TV. He has had poems published in The Guardian, The Rialto and The Big Issue. His new poetry collection To Make People Happy is published by Mariscat Press.

This week sees us talking to Cal and Sophie from Other Half - Alfie had the lurgy so sadly couldn't come along but we had a lovely old time anyway. 
Other Half have been a mainstay of the UK DIY punk circuit for more years than they would care to admit. Puzzling audiences with a combination of caustic dischord-style post hardcore sneering indie rock and tongue-in-cheek classic rock tropes, all tied together with vivid, slice-of-life lyricism.
They've put out three records on Venn and Big Scary Monsters respectively, which have all had nice things said about them.

Charlie Higson is bordering on national treasure status with millions of fans worldwide an author, actor, producer, comedian and writer for TV, film and radio. Both his ‘Young Bond’ and ‘The Enemy’ series for teenagers, have sold over a million copies in the UK. The rights to The Enemy books have been sold to a leading US studio who are currently developing it as a major movie franchise.

In 2023 Charlie published his first adult James Bond novel, On His Majesty’s Secret Service.

In the 80s Charlie was lead singer in the Indie dance band The Higsons, whose hits included I Don’t Want To Live With Monkeys, and Run Me Down which todays podcast will focus on.

Charlie wrote 4 adult crime novels, ‘King Of The Ants’, ‘Happy Now’, ‘Full Whack’ and ‘Getting Rid Of Mr Kitchen’ in the 1990s and returned to crime writing in 2022 with the publication of ‘Whatever Gets You Through The Night’. 2023 saw his first foray into adult James Bond novels with ‘On His Majesty’s Secret Service’, published to coincide with the coronation of King Charles III.

His book for younger children, ‘Worst. Holiday. Ever’, was published in 2021 with the sequel ‘Worst. Superhero. Ever’ out in Autumn 2024.

TV writing work includes Saturday Live, Harry Enfield’s Television Programme, Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple, Professor Branestawm, the sitcom - Swiss Toni, and the BAFTA winning sketch show The Fast Show, which he co-created, co-produced and starred in with Paul Whitehouse.

Charlie and Paul co-produced and performed in the award-winning spoof radio series Down the Line for BBC Radio 4, which led to the BBC2 television series Bellamy’s People.

Charlie was also show-runner, and lead writer on two drama series - Randall & Hopkirk Deceased, for the BBC, and Jekyll & Hyde, for ITV.

As well as appearing in many of his own productions, Charlie had major acting roles in the dramas Broadchurch and Grantchester in 2017.

In 2023 Charlie launched his own podcast, a history of the British monarchy called ‘Willy Willy Harry Stee’. And is currently the interviewer for the espionage themed podcast The Spy Who.

This week we are joined by Zamani - a man with many talents. Self described as a Suffolk based troubadour whose work is a refreshing taste and insight into his own mind and life experiences, bringing a soulful and authentic feel every time. 

You can hear echoes of a lifetime spent growing up in a sunny festival field with world class music as his first and last meal of the day.

Zamani authentically lives life as a troubadour, travelling from festival to festival as he has done from birth with his travelling family.

Youth Killed it have been making waves with their catchy riffs, sharp lyrics and undeniable energy, carving out a unique spot in the UK's indie-punk scene.

The ban is working on writing their 3rd LP and are hitting the studio in February.  Their recent singles Lately and Up All Night have been getting attention and lots of airplay with BBC introducing naming the band as the one to watch in 2025. 

We talk about a busy 2025 ahead and their home town show supporting The Rifles in March. With over 3.5 million streams on Spotify and with growing media exposure, the band continue to build momentum so have a listen to what they had to say

Hello again - it's been a while ....  to launch series 3 of On the Huh Podcast - I somehow wangled 15 mins with the inimitable Jeff McDonald of the Rock gods Redd Kross... hailing from Hawthorne Los Angeles - a 40+ year career co-fronting the band with his brother Steve has led to a lifetime of music.

Formed in November 23, the Solarnites blend a mixture of rock, funk and grunge that energetically drives home their soaring choruses, catchy vocal hooks and head pounding riffs. Their third single "I do all of my own stunts" is out now. A song that explores the theme of owning your mistakes, throwing caution to the wind and living life to the full. From Norwich UK, the band has an impressive pedigree featuring members of UK punk bands Infa-Riot, Braindance and Special Duties.

Their music is closest to the street punk genre with big singalong choruses, tinged with glam riffs, channeling their inner, Slade and Sweet influences.

The band formed in June 2021 in an unmanned studio during the height of the Covid pandemic. A little known rule meant that it was perfectly legal to rehearse together but not to visit each other’s homes for tea and biscuits. Strange times indeed.

To date the band has released one single the ‘Peepshow EP’ and a stellar album ‘Bit on the Side’, both recorded at Perry Vale studios in London with legendary producer Pat Collier (Vibrators) Both releases showcase the bands high energy anthemic music which can be sourced digitally from Bandcamp, Spotify, YouTube Amazon and iTunes.

The band has played shows with the likes of UK Subs, Evil Conduct, GBH, casualties, Cockney Rejects,

Last Resort and the Drowns and have also played Rebellion Festival for the last three years, culminating in an impressive performance to a packed Club Casbah venue in 2024. They have ventured into mainland Europe e.g. Belgium and Germany playing at the sold out ‘Once a Punk Always a Punk’ Festival in Belgium and the famous Don’t Panic venue in Essen and have more shows in Europe in the pipeline.

They have just started work on their new album “Second time around”.

This week I spent a few minutes with podcast Nepo-baby Reuben Andrews as part of our short form series "On the Huh shorts" .. 

This lad knows his stuff - he's all over the music scene especially in Norwich and Brighton (where he's at Uni). 

He's edited and produced all the episodes of On the Huh leaving Tim to do the bit he knows best...talking.   Here we chat about Reuben's early gig history, how he's got to know a few of the bands , what he's got coming up and his favourite bands and shows.

Just ahead of a long rehearsal prepping for their next live outing - I caught up with Mark and Andy from the band about their debut show, their time in the studio and what they've got coming up ....  you may recall that Simon from the Sam Adams band was the pilot episode for On the Huh Podcast so it was nice to loop back round with some of the other members - whilst Simon and drummer (another Mark) were setting up..  enjoy

The moniker 'yer blooze' of English multi-instrumentalist Dylan Clarke may originate from a White album deep cut but this influence is far from alone within his sonic palette.

Bringing together sounds from his local scene (noise, ambient, psyche and English folk) yer blooze also weaves in personal taste from genres such as Prog rock, and gypsy jazz within indie rock and neo-psych structures.  

Self spun choral harmonies atop natural acoustic instrumentation bolsters elated melodic moments that coalesce with and against strident and brash distortion.

As part of a new approach, - here at On the Huh Pod we are going to periodically drop in some mini-chats Tim has with all sorts of people - including visiting bands, audience members, crew, and whoever might have something interesting to say....  For the first of these I got to have a brief chat with Danny and Hugh from Gengahr just before they played a packed Waterfront Studio show celebrating the 10th anniversary of their brilliant debut album "A Dream Outside" ..

On the Huh caught up with front man Josh Harrison backstage at the Waterfront after their soundcheck and ahead of a home town album launch show to celebrate the release of their new album In Venus train.

Thematically In Venus Train channels mystical figures from folk-lore and biblical metaphors, writing songs about obsession, love and grieving a past life. The album is a musically rich, at times intricate and thoughtful, at others explosive and intense journey through the bands blend of melancholic, organic folk and sprawling, fuzzy alternative -rock. 

Drawing influence in equal measure from British Folk revivalists Fairport convention and alt-metal icons Tool, the album fuses melodic and emotional sensibility of folk with the noise and fuzzed guitar tones of grunge, ultimately making music that sounds something like if Nick drake joined Pile.

This week I'm joined for a chat by the brilliant KiraKira. In her own words Kira is a  Multi-instrumental singer songwriter grown in Norwich. In the space between bedroom pop heart-ache and white-rabbit indie dreams, she finds beauty in the drone of the mundane and floats in the idyll of ambience.

Taking a heart-bearing lyrical approach to music in the way that you may see in the realms of Samia, Phoebe Bridges or Beabadoobee and watering her recordings with reverb and soft pads, KiraKira nurtures guitar music that feels as though plants could grow to it. As she leaves adolescence, soft-grunge sensibilities become more present drifting in an ocean of distortion and new found reflectivity.
