How Divorce Effects Children & What You Can Do to Help
Welcome to "Old Ladies Know Stuff," where wisdom meets real-life challenges. I’m your host, Rhonda Stoppe, and today we’re diving into a topic that’s close to many hearts: how divorce affects children and what you can do to help. There’s a common belief that kids will be happier if parents are happy—even if that means splitting up—but decades of research, and years of personal experience as a pastor’s wife and youth minister, show us the real impact divorce can have on young lives.
In this episode, we’ll unpack both the short-term and long-term effects of divorce on children, exploring feelings of insecurity, rejection, resentment, and even financial stress. We’ll talk about practical steps parents can take to support their kids, ways mentors and community can make a difference, and the spiritual implications that often go overlooked. Whether you’re already divorced, considering it, or searching for hope and healing for your family, this is a safe space to find encouragement, resources, and honest conversation—no shame, no judgment. Just heartfelt advice from someone who’s walked alongside countless families on this journey.
Let’s come together to learn, support one another, and discover how, even amid brokenness, there’s hope for joy, restoration, and a brighter future for our children.

Untriggered - For Moms Who Struggle with Anger_with Amber Lia
21 May 2025
00:43:08
In this incredibly uplifting and informative conversation, UnTriggered author Amber Lia shares encouragement for every mom longing for freedom from anger and the self-condemnation that often accompanies it. This sixty-day devotional touches on heart issues like releasing comparison with other moms, becoming a results-free mom, resisting comparison of children, gaining confidence in listening to the Holy Spirit, embracing the gift of motherhood, and more. Packed with spiritual encouragement, UnTriggered also includes easy "put it into practice" steps.
Quote:
There is so much opportunity for hope to move forward. I mean, my kids, they I don't think they remember those early days at all when I was so triggered. You know, they don't remember who that mom even is. And I know that for some of us, our kids are older, but but first we have to allow God to forgive us. He is so gracious. He says in Psalm one zero three, he talks about how he remembers that we are but dust.
And he looks he looks at us with compassion as a loving father, that our sins are as far as the east is from the west, he says. And so receiving that grace from the Lord and then being so full of that that it overflows for ourselves. The enemy's gonna want you to replay all of that. And that's when we just have to take those thoughts captive and say, nope. I'm clean. I'm forgiven. And all I can do now is the next right thing with my kids. I can make progress with them.
I can bring healing, and I can pray through that and trust the Lord. But don't give up on it. It's never too late. There's never too much damage. There's nothing beyond God's healing hand. So do not despair.Find Untriggered Book and all of

Practical Ways to Bless Your Pastor with Rhonda Stoppe
16 Oct 2024
00:16:59
Rhonda Stoppe has been a pastor's wife for more than 30 years. She's learned a few things along the way. With October being "Pastor Appreciation Month" it is tempting to think signing a card, adding a little money to donate toward the annual appreciation gift, but really that's not what your pastor wants from you.
The sweetest way to encourage your pastor's shepherd heart is to live out your faith in a way that brings glory to Christ. To love him genuinely, consider how you might help support his family's financial needs, but more importantly, grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ.
With the sorrowful news of the moral failure of headline pastors, remember how much Satan wants to destroy the ministry of your minister. You can support him by diligently praying for him, for his marriage and for his children. Ask God to protect your pastor from Satan's schemes, and to guard his heart, mind and life.
And finally, SHOW UP! Go to church. Take notes. Listen. Learn. Adjust your life to what your pastor is teaching you. Join small groups. Serve others - don't expect the pastor to do all the work. Use your gifts in your local church to support your church family. And walk in the joy of the Lord. Because the Joy of the Lord is your strength!

Young Women_What I Wish I Knew Then_a message with Rhonda Stoppe.
Due to laryngitis I had to cancel my interview scheduled to air today. But I think this timely message will be a great substitute as I share from my heart all the insights to help young women step into adulthood with their eyes fixed on Jesus.
Quote: "May His Word stir in your heart a passion to become all that He has planned for you to be from before the foundations of this world!"
Rhonda taught this message at an intimate outdoor young women's tea party for her home church's young adult ladies.
Note: You'll hear a rooster crowing in the distance (repeatedly). But I feel like the rooster's crow only adds to the quaintness and intimacy of this event.
Books Mentioned: Real Life Romance by Rhonda Stoppe (Harvest House Publishers).

10 Steps to Enjoy the Holidays Without Regrets
05 Dec 2023
00:12:10
10 Steps to Enjoying the Holidays without Regrets Rhonda Stoppe [00:00:00]:
Today, we're gonna talk about an article that I wrote called 10 Steps to Enjoy the Holidays Without Regrets. Wow. How is it that the holidays are upon us? And they are. And not only the holidays, but I have 15 grandkids. Most of their birthdays are in the months of October, November, December. So we have so much fun over the next few months. Lots of family gatherings, lots of time together. Maybe you can relate.
Rhonda Stoppe [00:00:29]:
But sometimes, we can make decisions. We can interact in ways that When the family all goes home, we have some regrets. So today, we're gonna visit that topic, 10 steps to enjoy the holidays without regrets. Holidays with family can stir up all kinds of emotions. For some, it's a time of gift giving and thankful reflection. For others, It means stressful family gatherings or a grievous reminder that a loved one you have lost is no longer with you. As holidays approach, we can look at 10 steps that you can practice to help prepare to celebrate in ways that you will not have regrets. Number 1, realize the value of remembering God's faithfulness.
Rhonda Stoppe [00:01:13]:
In Joshua chapter 4, the Israelites were able to cross over the Jordan Because God stopped the waters. As they crossed, Joshua instructed leaders to pick up stones to build a monument to God's faithfulness. Although Israel had witnessed miracles, God knew their propensity to forget and yours and mine too. Right? So he instructed Joshua to pick up Stones from the very river that he'd stopped as a memorial to their children of his faithfulness. Not only was this monument To remind Israel of their descendants that they should fear the Lord forever, it would also serve as a Testimony to all the people of all the earth that he is the mighty one true god. Joshua 4:1 through 24 is where you'll find that story. God's works We're not only for Israel, they were also a way of making his name known to all the nations. Remember when the spies entered Jericho and Rahab the harlot hid them? She said this.
Rhonda Stoppe [00:02:16]:
I love this. I know the Lord has given you the land, That the terror of you has fallen on us and that all the inhabitants of the land are fainthearted because of you, For we have heard how the Lord dried up the water of the Red Sea for you. That's Joshua 29. I'm sorry. 29 through 11. When God shows up in mighty ways, it builds our faith. Right? We should learn from God's instructions to remind Selves, our children, our grandchildren, and the watching world that god is the one true god. This holiday season, do not forget the miraculous way that God intervened into the affairs of men to establish our great nation.
Rhonda Stoppe [00:03:01]:
This Christmas, remember how he gave his son to save us from our sins. Let's move on. Number 2, Expect something will not go as planned. For 1 holiday meal, I made the sweet potatoes that I make every year. And after I placed the marshmallows on the top of them and I popped them into the oven, I forgot. I got distracted, and, of course, the marshmallows burned to a crisp

The Reluctant Homeschool Mom

00:52:49
The Reluctant Homeschool Mom. I see you. And I totally get you. When we moved back to California from Texas I knew I was going to have to homeschool our youngest two kids - and I genuinely didn't want to!
Seriously, I loved having our kids in good schools. I loved having the days free to meet with friends, clean my house, go to Bible Studies, and go out to lunch with my husband. But, I also knew the Lord was calling me to this ministry of homeschooling our kids. So I asked Him for help. And guess what? He helped me - and our kids - every step of the way!
This message Rhonda taught at a homeschool convention. I hope it blesses and encourages you, my friend.

Momma- Don’t forsake this calling because you’re uncomfortable talking about s*x and purity with your kids. The world is more than happy to influence your daughters with their view. So ask God for courage and equip yourself to have this all important talk with your daughter.

From Overwhelmed to Equipped: Homeschooling Tips for Reluctant Moms
Welcome to another episode of "Old Ladies Know Stuff." I’m your host, Rhonda Stoppe, here to help women build "No Regrets" lives—and today, we’re diving into the world of homeschooling, especially for those who might not feel all-in about it. In this heartfelt and humorous conversation, I share honest stories from my own journey, offering encouragement and wisdom for moms who feel overwhelmed, anxious, or just plain reluctant about educating their kids at home.
We’ll talk about the real pressures that come with homeschooling—from fearing academic failure to battling the temptation to people-please. I’ll challenge you to keep your eyes on what truly matters: leading your kids to know Christ and making Him known. We’ll touch on the pitfalls of measuring success by accolades and remind you that humility, authenticity, and a strong marriage make a powerful impact on your children’s faith journey.
I draw on lessons from biblical figures like Moses, who was a reluctant leader before becoming a powerful one, and share some laugh-out-loud moments of my own mishaps, all to show you that God equips those He calls—even if you feel unqualified or unwilling. If you’ve ever worried that you “don’t want to” homeschool, or wonder if you can do it without regrets, this episode is filled with practical encouragement and spiritual perspective just for you.
So grab your coffee (and maybe your yoga pants), and let’s open our hearts to what God has for us in this calling—mess, moments of weakness, and all.

GuestCast: iWork4Him: How to Affair Proof Your Marriage

GUEST CAST EPISODE: Show notes iWork4Him How to Affair proof your marriage
iWork4Him is a show solely focused on the intersection of our Faith in Jesus and our Work. When these two collide – fantastic things happen all around us. People start to benefit from you following Jesus whether they believe in Jesus or not. That’s when the enemy goes full on frontal attack. He wants to compromise your reputation at work so that your testimony is no longer attractive. What is one way he does this? An Affair with an office mate. Whether you are a man or a woman, A committed follower of Jesus or one just finding their way in being a Jesus Follower, the enemy wants to see you fail. How do we protect our reputation and the reputation of our savior? We need to affair proof our marriages. We need to have a solid ground to stand on at home so that our steadfastness isn’t compromised at work. Even if you are not married, an affair at work will significantly dismantle your witness as a Christian. Today joining Martha and Jim Brangenberg is Rhonda Stoppe with www.NoRegretsWoman.com
Rhonda Stoppe returns to iWork4Him for another great interview about marriage.
Rhonda and Steve have been married for 42 years and she knows that they continue to need to be transparent with each other and take their advice from scripture. When they were new parents Rhonda found herself dressing up for church on Sundays and appreciated the compliments of a gentleman there. After a few weeks of getting compliments she approached Steve and basically explained the situation and told him he needs to compliment her more, as she was looking forward to the compliments of the man at church. She knew this behaviour could have bad consequences and that is how most affairs get started.
Applying that story to the workplace is pretty easy. We need to set good boundaries and clearly protect our marriages. We can do this by strengthening our marriages and making them a priority. We shared the 72-hour intimacy rule with her and Rhonda is going to add that to her messaging. Rhonda encouraged women to pursue their husbands. This is a successful way to affair proof your marriage.
There is a road to recovery for an affair. God has forgiven us as far as the East is from the West. Don’t stop protecting your marriage. When the kids leave and our lives change we shouldn’t look elsewhere for attention. Rhonda encouraged marriages to be careful even in our virtual relationships while we work distantly. It can quickly get out of control.

I'm gonna say that again. Motherhood matters. God has chosen us to influence this generation through motherhood because motherhood matters like really, really matters Down through history, the first teachers of men that God raised up in their generation were not scholars. They were their mothers. We are the makers of men, the architects of the next generation. Let that sit with you. Luke Smallbone of Fourth King and Country. Do you guys know them? Love the Smallbone family. He says this about his mom. I probably owe all that I am to my mom because when a man is loved by his mother, he can end up doing great things. And there's an amazing story of him and his mother in mom's raising sons to be men. And go to the next slide. Ruth Graham, who was the mother of Billy Graham, think of her influence on her culture. Every person who came to Jesus Christ because of Ruth Graham's influence on her son, Billy Graham, that's fruit of her work. Helen's Helen's Smallbone was Luke's mom. Every song you hear written, every worship note that he sings. Did you know she's also the mom of Rebecca St. James. Back in the olden days, there was a a singer hold Rebecca St. James <laugh> that's their sister. We don't know how God's gonna use us to influence our kids, but God knows, and he handpicked you to do it. Ruth Graham said to me, motherhood is the nicest, most rewarding job in the world. The second, the, I'm sorry, second importance to none.

Mentors Matter
Titus 2 Older women teach the younger women how to love their husbands and love their children.
What I learned from Older Mentors:
How to Love God’s Word
Quote:
“You will never know yourself more clearly than through the lens of scripture.”
“Get in the word and you will see a reflection of yourself that God can transform”
Scripture “Do not be conformed to this world… be transformed by the renewing of your mind…”
-Social media conforms us to the world’s view
-Scripture transforms our minds to a biblical world view.
DAVID’S MOM:
Helicopter Moms - Don’t fight his battles for him
Quote:
“Sometimes God sends the giant and he sends the bear to equip your child to fight a giant that you know nothing about.”
Scripture:
“As high as the heavens are above the earth so My ways are higher than your ways and my thoughts higher than your thoughts” (Isaiah 55:9).
Special Needs Child
Quote:
“Mom’s Kiss: He knows you kiss him while he’s sleeping”
Scripture:
“I have stored up Your word in my heart, that I might not sin against You”(Psalm 119:11).
“In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you” (1 Thessalonians 5:18).
Quote:
“Sometimes your trial is not about you. Your trial is to show your children, to verify, that what you say you believe you really believe.”
Miscarriage:
Quote: “You will hold it in heaven”
Quote:
“We raised our children to direct each other to Christ in a crisis.”
“Your children will feel most secure when your love for each other is most genuine.”
“Your son will likely marry someone who is like you.” APATHY is our Enemy.
Single Moms: God promises to be a father to the fatherless. (Psalm 68:5) We see you. We are here for you. Quote:
“No other calling influences our culture as powerful as motherhood.”
"It’s terrifying to raise our sons in this culture. And yet, God has called us to change the culture through the raising of our sons.”

Abortion - What Does the Bible Say?
Oh wow, this was not an easy episode to upload. I know how controversial the subject of abortion can be. I get it. But, I also know how often women ask me, "What does the Bible Say about Abortion?"
So, I feel like it's a timely topic. And I also realize that posting this episode has the potential to make or break my podcast subscriber list. But with God's courage, I press on as I press: "Publish"
Prayers appreciated my friends. Please pray for the women who will listen. Pray that God stirs in us His compassion and longing to share the hope of the gospel with women who are looking for answers. Please pray that our love for Christ will spill over onto them and show them how Jesus is the one who washes us whiter than snow. And please pray that we will be like Naomi (an old lady who knows stuff) was to Ruth. May our love for God, and compassion for them draw women to trust Him too.

Over-Parenting_Are You Driving Your Kids Away from Faith?

Is Over Parenting Turning Your Kids Away from Faith?
"Control Freaks Raise Freaks" but how can a parent know the difference between controlling and concern?
Over-parenting can feel like the right thing to do, but it's important to learn to parent in a way that helps your child mature away from dependence upon you and more upon faith In Christ.

We didn't get to this in the episode... but it's super important: So, let’s break down Deuteronomy 6:4-9:
Verse 4-5: You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. Your wholehearted commitment to God and His Word will demonstrate to your child how much you love God and value Scripture.
Verse 6: Think about, meditate on, and memorize Scripture, so your obedience to God will be a response based upon biblical precepts. When you transform your thinking with Scripture you will be prepared to teach your kids how to speak and act in God-honoring ways, without hypocrisy.
Verse 7-9: Relate your child’s everyday experiences to the Bible. This practice will make talking about spiritual matters a normal part of your conversations.
When you arm your children with godly knowledge, they will learn to recognize when others are attempting to deceive them.
God said, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge (Hosea 4:6). So, to keep your children from being destroyed by worldly influences and deceptions, impart knowledge from the Bible as often as the opportunity arises. This will grow their faith more than the practice of over-parenting attempts to manipulate or control their actions.
The world would instruct your children to achieve their goals for their own pleasure and fame, rather than God’s glory. That is why it’s vital for you to train them to filter their opportunities and achievements through a biblical mindset.
One way to lay a biblical foundation in your child’s mind is through music. (And realize that ungodly music can also be the thing that woos your child’s heart away from a godly mindset.) For example,
