Yoa on friendship, navigating her twenties, and her debut album "La Favorite"

Season 1 · Episode 3

mardi 18 février 2025Duration 53:12

For Yoa, the ideal debut album is one where by the end, the listener feels like they have met someone new. This is exactly what the French singer achieves with her powerful and personal debut album, "La Favorite." And she has become just that in the Francophone world - the favorite. She is the artist that everyone is excited about and can't wait to watch flourish. At the Victoires de la Musique earlier this month, she gave a stunning performance of her song "Contre-cœur" just before winning the award for Révélation Scène. She is also set to headline the iconic Olympia in Paris in April.

On this episode of Now You Hear Me, we talked about the creation of this album, the difficulties of navigating one's mid-twenties, the artists that inspire her, and so much more. I truly have not been this excited about an artist in a long time. And after listening to this episode and her new album, I hope you'll feel the same way. Enjoy :)

On this episode of Now You Hear Me, we discussed everything from her songs appearing in Emily in Paris, to the inspiration she gains from her travels, to the stories behind each song on the EP. Enjoy :)

Summer camp, songwriting, and sophomore albums with Liv Greene

Season 1 · Episode 1

lundi 3 février 2025Duration 55:43

HELLO and welcome to the very first episode of Now You Hear Me! I am your host, Martha Betubiza. I decided to start this podcast with an artist both close to home and close to my heart - Liv Greene. To best describe who she is, I'll repurpose a post I wrote from my 2014 Tumblr music blog era.

"i'm super grateful to say that one of my biggest musical inspirations is my friend liv greene. it has been so amazing to watch her grow over the past few years. her voice has a tone that is so special. she is so sweet, and humble, and truly gifted. i love being friends with talented people because they really inspire me. they push me to sing more, to post more covers, to write more. they help me become the person that i alone, am far too terrified to be... i cannot wait until she is famous. i love and admire her endlessly"

"When you let space for your anger, I think it's a way to calm down," Ariane Roy expresses, describing the sentiments explored on her second album, "Dogue." Desire, anger, fear, fantasy, fiction and more, exist on this record in a sonic world that's much different than that of her first album. On this record she steps into a persona that gives herself permission to express anything, giving life to the emotions that women are often told they can't feel so loudly. On this episode of Now You Hear Me, we discuss the writing of this album, her current inspirations, her live show and more. Thank you for listening and enjoy :)
