You Can Stop Expecting Him to Get it Now09 Sep 202400:02:46

Period recovery has this funny way of making you question everything about your habits.

Is this enough? How do I know if it's enough? What if I'm too full for the next snack? Could I keep exercising if I reduce intensity? Will this even work?

If this sounds like you, I’m going to take a wild guess and say…

❌you are doing everything by yourself and DIY-ing your recovery

❌your 'winging' it and playing a guessing game of how to get your period back

❌you have no one in your life that really gets it, you try to talk to your partner about how scary this is, but they don't really understand and just keep telling you to "go eat a cheeseburger"

Period recovery can be stressful, unpredictable, and a total mental rollercoaster🎢

But after working with 450+ clients, I can tell you the secret to period recovery SUCCESSFULLY is… wait for it….

✍️a proven process with support every step of the way

You'll instead get direct access to me over the 90 days AND a community of like-minded women who get it and understand you because they, too, are doing the work to get their periods back.

392: Your Weight is Not Your Worth04 Oct 202200:11:45

If I were to ask you, what is your self worth dependent on, how would you answer? Would it be the grades you make in school? The accolades you hold in your job? How hard you work? How good of a mom you are?

What about your body? Do you feel that your body is THE thing that either provides you self worth, or is the very thing that you feel constantly holds you back from viewing yourself in a positive light?

And maybe that’s why you’re always on and off diets. You're always searching the latest and greatest diet to finally “fix your body”. Because you feel like once you fix your body, everything else will work out. You’re not alone if you feel that way. Because that’s the lie we are sold from diet culture.

In today’s episode, I hope to challenge you with what you believe about your own self worth.

If you’re ready to develop positive self worth, and to make peace with food and your body, join Food & Body Peace Playbook for our October cohort and final group for 2022.

FBPP is for for you if:

  • You want more mental space and freedom from thinking about food & your body 24/7, so you can focus on the things in life that truly matter.
  • You may still have the desire to lose weight, but you know the diets and clean eating schemes have gotten you nowhere, so you’re ready for a new approach to eating and health.
  • You may be a little nervous to make peace with food & your body, but you’re ready to trust your body again and change the way you view food.
  • You want to understand how to eat and care for your body, without the food and ‘fix my body’ obsession.
  • You have tried to figure out Intuitive Eating on your own, you may have even read the book, but doing this on your own has caused so much confusion and overwhelm.
  • You’re ready to receive guidance and accountability from our expert team and the other like-minded women who join Food & Body Peace Playbook.
  • You want to change your relationship with food and your body so that you can be a good example to those around you (especially your children).

Who FBPP is not for:

  • You’re looking for a quick fix.
  • You’re looking for a weight loss program.
  • You’re looking for an “eat this, not that” diet solution.
  • You’re not ready to change your mindset on food and your body.

Remember you have until October 9th to join our October cohort, which will be the final round for 2022.

391: 5 Ways to Feel More Confident in Your Body on a Daily Basis27 Sep 202200:16:59

What if you could get dressed everyday without negative body talk? And what if you could feel confident in your body without changing what you eat?

Today on the podcast, we are going to cover 5 specific ways to feel more confident in your body on a daily basis.

And why do we want to experience confidence in our bodies? Confidence allows us to:

  • Eat ice cream AND feel confident your body can handle it.
  • Put on a bathing suit without freaking out over what your stomach looks like.
  • Eat for the entire day without logging it into My Fitness Pal.
  • Trust that your body has your back, allowing flexible health habits in your life that stick.

Confidence in your body goes so much deeper than confidence in the way your body looks. It’s confidence in what your body can do for you, the life it facilitates for you.

I mean think about it, you’re going to live in this body for the rest of your life. Don’t you want to feel confident in your body, not so much from a looks perspective although that’s great too, but more so confidence that your body will and can take care of you?

If you are ready to gain the tools to have confidence in your body for life: Food & Body Peace Playbook (FBPP) is our signature 8 week group coaching program that will help you build trust in your body so that you can gain confidence in it.

And what this means to you is that you can wake up everyday, feeling excited to get dressed.

FBPP covers three tiers of body image work (understanding our body beliefs, body image is brain work, and how to respect and come home to your body) so that you can experience confidence again in your body.

Know that as you listen to today’s episode, we are OFFICIALLY open for enrollment for our October cohort. You have from today to Sunday, October 9th or until all spots fill to join, and you can find the link to join BY CLICKING HERE!

390: What Exactly is Diet Culture and How Does it Cause Food Guilt20 Sep 202200:16:30

Do you constantly feel guilty for what you eat? And does the guilt you feel about food involve concern over how that food is going to impact your body, i.e. will it cause weight gain?

Have you ever thought about WHY you feel guilty about what you eat? In today’s episode we explore the main culprit of food guilt, diet culture, and how it causes food guilt.

Because here’s the truth: Guilt and shame take us away from listening to our bodies. Before we can listen to the body, we need to reject diet mentality, remove the negative emotions and morality involved around food, and take us away from listening to our bodies.

So in order to feel at peace around all foods, and to feel good in your body, you’ve got to work through these beliefs and emotions you have around both food and your body, which is exactly what we do inside Food & Body Peace Playbook.

Food & Body Peace Playbook is a mindset focused program. 5 out of 8 modules are focused on helping you shift to viewing food and your body in a positive manner.

This means the internal chatter will shift into language that is compassionate, caring and trusting in your body and how you care for it. And what this really means? Your mind will be free to focus on the things in life that truly matter!

389: Experiencing Intense Hunger Now That You Are No Longer Dieting with Megan Perez RD/N13 Sep 202200:24:40

Have you ever experienced extreme hunger when you stopped dieting? Maybe you went from barely any hunger at all, and you stopped following Weight Watchers, paleo, keto, etc and now you cannot stop thinking about food?

Or maybe for you it’s that the feeling of hunger is complicated to you. You often ignore, push it away, which then leads you to get to the state of primal hunger at the end of the day and eat everything in sight.

The truth is, hunger is an interoceptive cue of the body that we’ve been taught is bad, or to ignore, or that if we experience it too often, we aren’t doing something right.

In today’s episode, one of the incredible dietitians at Nourishing Minds Nutrition, Megan Perez, walks through why hunger is a complicated sensation, and what to do to befriend your hunger.

You’ll walk away with actionable steps to better manage your hunger going forward, and make sure to stay tuned to the end of the episode for updates from me and announcements you’re gonna want to hear!

In this episode I reference our new Meal Planning Guide, the Fear of Weight Gain Masterclass and here is the link to Megan’s packages.

384: Opening Up To Your Partner About Your Food & Body Struggles with Client Lauren and Emilie Hebert RD/N16 Aug 202200:42:24

One of the hardest things about choosing food and body peace is admitting to yourself that you are struggling. Even harder? Telling those in your life that you love about those struggles!

Today’s episode is one of hopefully many to come, where dietitian at my practice, Emilie Hebert, interviews one of her clients on their experience working with Emilie. Lauren was gracious enough to agree to come on the show, and I cannot thank her enough for doing so!

My hope is that this episode gives you light where there is currently darkness. That you see that choosing peace is worth it, even if it feels scary as hell initially to do so. Lauren shares her process of admitting to herself that she struggled, sharing this with her partner, and why she chose to seek help even though at times she didn’t feel ‘sick enough’ to do so. Listen to this incredible story to learn more!

383: Intermittent Fasting with a History of Disordered Eating09 Aug 202200:16:29

Can you engage in popular wellness trends, like intermittent fasting, if you have a history or are currently struggling with disordered eating?

Intermittent fasting is all the rage these days, and is touted as a way to improve blood sugar levels, cognitive function, life longevity, reduce oxidative stress and inflammation and so many more proposed benefits.

And if you have been here since the beginning of the show, this title is an episode we did in the first year of the show, all the way back in 2017. I actually went back and listened to the episode, and a lot of what we shared is pretty similar to how I feel now, but I did feel like it was due time to re-do this episode with more up to date  information.

Because what is different is how STRONGLY I feel against intermittent fasting, in comparison to our first episode with this title, where we saw some of the benefits. Now, I just see it as an excuse for people to engage in disordered behaviors. Listen to today’s episode to learn more!

*In the beginning of the episode I accidentally say ‘intuitive eating’ instead of ‘intermittent fasting’.

382: Why I Love Practical Eating (+The Importance of Breakfast)02 Aug 202200:12:43

The saying goes “breakfast is the most important meal of the day.” But you’re used to skipping breakfast because you’re intermittent fasting or counting collagen in your coffee as a breakfast. You can have more energy throughout your entire day, with this one change to your morning routine: By eating breakfast daily with carbs, protein and fat.

You deserve to live life the way you want, and have the energy you desire, and we can teach you the tactics to learn how to eat for ENERGY by listening to this very show.

And why are you talking about breakfast right now? Because THIS is an example of practical eating. My goal with today’s episode is to help you see that your goals of health, feeling well, heck even having sustained energy throughout the day will be supported by practical eating.

381: Creating Safety in Your Body So You Can Work Towards Body Trust with Mia Donley RD/N29 Jul 202200:33:42

Today on the show we have guest, Mia Donley, who shares with us all how to work towards body trust by building safety in your body. Mia Donley, MPH, RD, CDN is a registered dietitian and consultant working in the field of eating disorders and public health. She originally pursued nutrition to bring culturally relevant nutrition education to the field, as she didn't find her own family's foods and practices reflected in dietetics. She's worked as a nutrition educator in schools, coordinated public health programs, and currently works for a group practice focused on eating disorders. Outside of counseling, she teaches classes on cultural nutrition and helps create spaces for Black dietitians and dietitians of color working in the field of eating disorders and nutrition.

In this episode we discuss:

  • What inspired Mia’s passion for the anti-diet sector of dietetics.
  • How to build trust with food and body, PCOS, and GI issues, especially for WOC and queer folks of color.
  • One tangible way those listening to work can work on building trust with their bodies.
  • How Mia lives wellness without obsession.

380: The Difference Between the Why to Heal vs. the HOW to Heal with FBPP Student Maria22 Jul 202200:40:23

I loved this episode with Maria so much. It speaks to your SOUL, that’s just how Maria is. At the end of the episode, I ask Maria about why taking FBPP was different than listening to the podcast, which she has been listening since the VERY beginning, since 2017!

You’ll have to listen in to hear Maria’s answer, but one of the things her answer made me reflect on is the why behind why I transitioned the program (from when it was formally called Permission Stage Playbook) from an online course to instead a cohort style, group coaching program where we only enroll 3-4 times a year with a limited amount of students each enrollment period.

My why is because I care, deeply. I don’t want you to take an online course to absorb 15% of it, and apply absolutely nothing. I want you to go through the material, participate in the support group, show up for the group calls and actually create change in your life!

Our last round of FBPP in the spring had a 84% completion of course material. To compare this, I found a study from 2018 that shared the average completion rate of online courses was 15%! That’s not even measuring the group coaching component of the program, which is the most highly rated part of the program.

In this episode we also discuss the differences between WHY to change versus HOW to change. And if you’re ready for the how through education, support and accountability, you can click here to learn more about Food & Body Peace Playbook.

We have officially closed the doors to our July cohort, however, you can go ahead and apply now to reserve your spot for our most popular group, our October cohort. Click here to learn more!

379: 4 Misconceptions About Intuitive Eating Debunked19 Jul 202200:11:22

In today’s episode we debunk 4 common misconceptions about intuitive eating so that you can have clarity about what intuitive eating is all about.

Do you have duct tape on your broken relationship with food and your body?

If you do, and if this broken relationship is just getting worse as you try to determine how to fix it…and if you've been stuck at the 'let me try to fix this myself' place for awhile: This is your sign. It's time to ask for help. It's time to receive the support, accountability and momentum you need to heal your relationship with food and your body.

Food & Body Peace Playbook will help you do exactly that.  Food & Body Peace Playbook (FBPP) is our signature 8 week online group coaching program that will help you make peace with food, trust your body again and live wellness without obsession. And what this means to you is by joining our July cohort, you'll feel at ease that you've asked for the help you know you need.

378: What Learning How to Ride a Bike and Learning Intuitive Eating Have in Common with FBPP Student Melissa15 Jul 202200:34:19

Today on the podcast we have yet another special guest, Melissa! Melissa participated in our April cohort of Food & Body Peace Playbook (FBPP), and is on the show today sharing her experience going through the program. You’ll hear Melissa share how she started dieting around 8 years old, how she learned about intuitive eating as a mental health therapist, and why she decided FBPP was a great fit for her needs.

You’ll also hear me share about how learning how to ride a bike and learning the intuitive eating process is so similar. Sure, you can learn how to ride a bike by reading about it, heck even listen to podcast episodes about it. But that cannot compare to actually getting on a bike and riding it! FBPP is how you will get on the bike, actually applying what you learn in  your intuitive eating journey, so that you can meet your goals.

FBPP is an 8 week group program that will teach you EVERYTHING you need to know in order to make peace with food, and also your body.

You're a great fit for FBPP if:

Are you ready for pro health, pro nutrition advice and SUPPORT on how to live in a peaceful place with food and your body?  FBPP is open from today until July 22d or until all spots are filled. Click here to get started and reach out on Instagram if you have questions about the program!

377: Anti Diet Does Not Mean Anti Health12 Jul 202200:11:31

When people here anti diet here’s what they hear:  Anti health. Anti nutrition. Anti vegetables. In this episode, we will talk about one of the concepts of intuitive eating to help you understand why there’s so much misinformation about this self care eating framework: Making peace with food.

Making peace with food involves giving yourself unconditional permission to eat. People take this to mean: you’re going to be eating every second of every day, eating foods you deem unhealthy forever. Honestly, when I hear this response, I know without a doubt, that the person sharing this concern is struggling with diet mentality.

Making peace with food is a powerful experience. And I would argue is one of the most health promoting things we can do for ourselves! FBPP is an 8 week group program that will teach you EVERYTHING you need to know in order to make peace with food, and also your body.

You're a great fit for FBPP if:

Are you ready for pro health, pro nutrition advice and SUPPORT on how to live in a peaceful place with food and your body?  FBPP is open from today until July 22d or until all spots are filled. Click here to get started and reach out on Instagram if you have questions about the program!

376: Why Group Support Helps You Reach Your Goals Faster with Food & Body Peace Playbook Student Lara08 Jul 202200:24:49

Today’s episode is SO special because today on the show I have a member of our April cohort Food & Body Peace Playbook, Lara!

Inside this episode, you’ll learn how Lara first worked with us inside Get Your Period Back Playbook, and then decided to continue on in her intuitive eating journey by joining our signature group coaching program, Food & Body Peace Playbook (FBPP).

FBPP is an 8 week online group coaching program that will help you make peace with food, trust your body again and live wellness WITHOUT obsession. What that means to you is you will feel CONFIDENT in your food choices and at ease about your health.

Inside of FBPP, we host 5 group coaching calls over the 8 weeks of the online course so that you can get consistent support in your health journey.

In fact, according to a study completed by the American Society of Training and Development people who commit to their goals with a group of other people, are 95% more likely to achieve those goals.

This is just ONE of the many reasons we believe our students in FBPP hae such success in reaching their goals. Listen to learn more and hear Lara’s experience inside this program!

FBPP is open from today until July 22d or until all spots are filled. Click here to get started and reach out on Instagram if you have questions about the program!

375: Why I Don’t Teach Weight Loss as a Dietitian05 Jul 202200:12:08
I used to teach people how to lose weight for a living. It was my career and identity.

In the beginning, 10 years ago, I was totally sold on it. I so firmly believed that people could live off the 1,200 calories diets I was giving them. That they lacked discipline when they didn’t stick to the plan. I was judgmental of OTHERS eating habits because I was JUDGING MYSELF.

Overtime, I woke up to the realities of the negative impacts of dieting. Now, my business helps undo those damages.

We teach women and people how to make peace with food and trust their bodies again. I know if I’m helping someone who chronically diets, or restricts and binge eats, or who has disordered eating/orthorexia that I’m helping them, not harming them.

And that’s why Food & Body Peace Playbook (FBPP) exists. FBPP is an 8 week online group coaching program that will help you make peace with food, trust your body again and live wellness WITHOUT obsession.

What that means to you is you will feel CONFIDENT in your food choices and at ease about your health.

This is the body you’re going to live in the rest of your life. When your 80 years old, how do you want to look back and reflect on how you treated your body? If that resonates I want you to know:

Food & Body Peace Playbook was designed just for you. You’ll learn how to:
  • Stop the dieting, for good.
  • Learn how to eat FOREVER.
  • Stop the body hatred and mean girl self talk.
  • Start respecting and trusting your body again.
  • Live life FULLY and embrace wellness without obsession.

FBPP is open for our July cohort TODAY. Its open from today until July 22d or until all spots are filled. Click here to get started and reach out on Instagram if you have questions about the program!

374: Megan Perez RD/N on How Much Fiber is Too Much Fiber01 Jul 202200:26:40

Dietitian at Nourishing Minds Nutrition, Megan Perez, is back on the show today! In today’s episode, Megan guides us through a better understanding of what fiber is, sources of fiber in the diet and the health benefits of fiber.

Since Megan works with clients on gentle nutrition, especially for her PCOS clients with some degree of insulin resistance; it’s fun to discuss health promoting practices such as adding fiber to your diet! However we still see many clients who come to us consuming too much fiber. We have a lot of people who come to us with digestive concerns such as gas, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, and so with these clients, we always assess their fiber intake. So in this episode we help you understand how much fiber is too much fiber, so you can determine the amount that feels best for you.

373: Why I Don’t Recommend Food Sensitivity Testing28 Jun 202200:11:45

Have you personally or known of someone who has taken a food sensitivity test? And have you ever noticed that overtime, for many people, the results dissipate? That they may even cause anxiety or worry about the foods they are intolerant to?

Today, I want to discuss why I don’t like nor recommend food sensitivity testing. This is definitely a tricky subject. What I’m not trying to do in this episode is take away your body autonomy. If they have worked for you. Or if you have genuine food intolerances, I’m not saying that is wrong.

You are going to have to be the ultimate decision maker. You are the expert of your own body! Listen to today’s episode to learn more about food sensitivity testing.

372: Lauren Cadillac RD/N on the Impact Body Building Had on Her Eating Disorder24 Jun 202200:37:50

Lauren Cadillac is a registered dietitian, certified intuitive eating counselor, certified personal trainer and retired bodybuilder. She owns and operates a virtual private practice where she helps individuals from all over the world heal their relationship with food.

Rather than focusing on a number on the scale or strict food rules, Lauren takes an approach to nutrition that encourages behaviors that support physical, mental, emotional and spiritual well-being. Her client’s progress and success is measured not by weight, but instead by more relevant markers of health such as energy levels, sleep, digestion and mood. She teach my clients the Intuitive Eating framework so that they can heal their relationship with food and become the expert of their own bodies.

TW: We briefly discuss ED behaviors in this episode, if this could be triggering, please do not listen to today’s episode.

In this episode we discuss:

363: Connecting to Pleasure in Food & In Your Body24 May 202200:16:33

Did you know that it is common in many cultures to believe pleasure is a part of taking care of your health?

Yet in our society that promotes thinness as the only way to pursue health, we have forgotten this important component of enjoying and living life, and also taking care of ourselves...and that’s eating and living for pleasure and satisfaction!

At our practice, Nourishing Minds Nutrition, we have a belief that food should be chosen for flavor first and foremost. What’s really cool about this mindset is that it can truly allow for food freedom and an all foods fit mentality, because all foods can be so delicious and pleasurable to eat, brussels sprouts and chocolate chip cookies included!

However, if you are new to intuitive eating and come from healthy eating obsessed or disordered eating and dieting past- you likely are not well tuned in to your ability to recognize pleasure and satisfaction. So let’s dig in to that more in today’s episode!

In this episode we discuss:

  • Shana’s journey going back to school to become a dietitian and how she became an anti-diet dietitian
  • What does an eat everything and all foods fit mentality mean
  • How allowing all foods into your eating world (sans medical or ethical needs) allows for foods to become emotionally equivalent
  • Shana’s tips to removing the internal dialogue that tells you that you are “good” or “bad” for how you eat
  • How to deal with negative feedback on Instagram and how to build a community on Instagram
  • How Shana practices wellness without obsession
