#13 A hip trip down memory lane: Introducing my guardian angel Anne Clarke27 Sep 202400:54:44

In this episode I break with form and introduce you to a very special person, my guardian angel, Anne Clarke. I met Anne through the ephemera she left behind in a house she lived and died in, which I then squatted some years later, discovering a time capsule to her existence, when I found all her belongings had been left behind in the space. Even the spices were still out in the kitchen from her last supper there.

In 2016 I created a play about Anne’s life, called HIP, which I took to the Edinburgh Fringe and toured all over the UK and Europe. This episode is a taster of the play and a homage to someone who’s played such a big role in my life, but who I’ve never actually met. If you’d like to watch a full performance of HIP you can see a recording of it at the fringe here: https://youtu.be/pqlEd1oW4Q4

I mention in the podcast that I’m running a residential immersion weekend in Sark for Samhain and you can find out more information about this through social media. You can get in touch with me on Instagram @kriyaarts or the Nonsense in the Chaos Page on Facebook.

#12 Birth, death & all that’s inbetween: Joanne Tremarco and the locations of portals20 Sep 202400:59:08

I’m chatting to one of my oldest friends this week, Joanne Tremarco, who’s a birth and death doula, a theatre maker and fellow fool. I met Joanne through fooling nearly twenty years ago. Our relationship was tempestuous to begin with, but we came out the other side with a sister-like friendship and deep understanding of one another.

Joanne is a sensitive soul who, like Denis, works a lot with energies and the unseen world. Heralding from Liverpool, she also talks about the many portals that can be found in that fabulous city and the different ways that she and other magical folks in the area work with the land around them.

#3 Fooling & the inner and outer worlds19 Jul 202400:48:14

In this week's episode of the Nonsense in the Chaos, a weekly podcast where I let the universe lead and take a 'Fool's leap' plunge into the unknown, I share about my ever deepening love of nature and the land, a relationship that's especially grown since embarking on a series of pilgrimages. I then pull a rune that leads me to a 'Runemation' on the archetype of the fool and what it teaches us about the inner and outer worlds.

#2 Chaos Magic: Megan Clifton and creating the Boomtown narrative12 Jul 202401:01:00

This week's podcast is out and I'm super excited to be interviewing my darling friend @meganlouiseclifton who is Head of Narrative at Boomtown Fair, where she manages multiple theatre companies and other creative crews to deliver an interactive collaborative narrative to 55,000 people over 4 days.

Sitting between theatrical writer and game designer, Megan likes to create strange and beautiful interactive environments, treating the ridiculous with reverence to empower the audience to be, say and do things they could never do in 'normal' life.

I met Megan 8 years ago in Brighton, and she introduced me to the concept of Chaos Magik and Dischordianism, which I've been enjoying exploring ever since. It was such a joy to interview her, and I can't wait for you to hear this episode.

#1 Pilot and introduction to the NITC10 Jul 202400:57:27

Welcome to the Nonsense in the Chaos, a weekly podcast where I let the universe lead and take a 'Fool's leap' plunge into the unknown. In this first episode I'll be introducing you to the concepts behind this new podcast and sharing a little a bit about what has led me to this place, where I'm able to relish in the nonsense and the chaos of the universe (from someone who was once a total control freak).

Trigger warnings: I do talk about depression, infertility and suicidal thoughts in this episode, but with a light touch and it leading to uplifting results.

The music is by Moxie.

#11 Raising the Frequency13 Sep 202400:53:17

This week I explore the turning of the season from summer into autumn, and how this is a time to mulch over what intentions you set for yourself this year, picking through what you’ve learnt and feeling gratitude for all that you’ve harvested from these experiences and insights.

I talk about how my intentions for this year were to explore the ‘Mythos of Love’ and where that adventure took me, along with tightening my professionalism and being a bit less of a ‘cowboy’.

The rune I pulled this week is extra special and reflected perfectly that this is the 11th episode and, in numerology, the highest frequency number there is.

I mention in the podcast that I’m running a residential immersion weekend in Sark for Samhain and that you can find out more information on this by following me on social media. You can get in touch with me on Instagram @kriyaarts or the Nonsense in the Chaos Page on Facebook. I also talk about a book called 'The Artist’s Way' by Julia Cameron.

#10 The Elephant in the Room: Denis Whyte and all the angels06 Sep 202401:01:34

In this week’s episode I get to chat with my dear friend Denis, as we discuss spirit, alternative dimensions, and rooms full of angels. Denis Whyte is a former award-winning documentary producer specialising in Hindu/Buddhist spiritual practices. He’s been an energy healer since 1980 and is involved in spiritually based community work in his neighbourhood in London.

I met Denis on the first pilgrimage I walked with Extinction Rebellion from Brighton to London, when we shut down the city. Since then he’s joined me on the last three pilgrimages that I’ve walked, travelling the length and breadth of England on foot.

Denis is such a sweet soul and I could chat with him forever.

#9 Embracing the Patriarchs (Before their time is up)30 Aug 202400:49:05

This week I'm back in the studio on my own, contemplating how come I've ended up with three older white men in the first ten episodes of the podcast, but how that this is a reflection of current astro-events, as we dip one final time back into the patriarchal world of Capricorn, through the lens of Pluto, before we fully enter into the Aquarius age. We have much to learn from our elders and to harvest from this era, before we head on into the craziness of Aquarius for the next two decades.

I then pull a rune that leads me to think about the journeys life has taken me on and how the old saying 'This too shall pass,' is a vital bit of wisdom to hold onto as we stumble our way through this thing we call life.

#8 “That sounds like Glastonbury thinking”: Mad Jack and his curious life23 Aug 202401:06:43

Peter Currell Brown AKA ‘Mad Jack’ has been in my life for 35 years and I'd always assumed he would have a cracking life story to share and in this week's episode he does not disappoint. He mentioned in our chat that he's on Wikipedia and I highly recommend having a look at his page because there's much on there he didn't get around to talking about on this podcast.

He does mention though that he's the author of the cult classic 1965 surrealist novel, Smallcreep's Day, which is next on my reading list and I can't wait to get stuck into.

Jack is a fascinating character and a lovely warm man. His voice is scrumptious to listen to and I'm over the moon I managed to interview him for you dear listeners to enjoy. Sit back and relax with this week's podcast.

#7 16th Century Kicks: Kentwell Hall Tudor Recreation19 Aug 202400:55:51

Having left behind the madness of Boomtown Festival, I spent this week decompressing in the 16th Century, at Kentwell Hall Tudor Re-Creation,  nestled in amongst the idyllic village of Long Melford in Sudbury.
Populated by historians and talented experts, in this week's podcast I interview a myriad of fascinating friends; my oldest friend Samson, trumpet maker Lettys, glass blower Tom Shrubb, still room herbalist Mistress Martha, and Perry the Alchemist.

#6 Bang Goes Normal: Pilgrimage to Boomtown 13 Aug 202400:47:19

This week I chat to Declan Morgan, Sally Zaltash and Scarlett Lowin while we walk the Elen line from the Isle of Wight, up the Itchen River, to the sacred land temple of St Catherine's Hill and the bowl in which Boomtown is held.

I discuss druidry with Declan, Christianity with Sally, and reflect back over the festival with Scarlett.

Can't believe that all just happened. What a creative and inspiring festival Boomtown is. I'm so proud of all the hard work that goes into making it happen, holding the rave for the ravers and making it a transcendental experience for them. My heart is full and booming.

Apologies though for the sound quality in this podcast cast. It was recorded in the field, lol.

#5 Pilgrimage and listening to the land02 Aug 202400:53:54

Having walked the length and breadth of the UK, I share in this week’s episode the impact the experience of walking 2000 miles across the UK has had on my life and the plethora of things I’ve learnt from ever so slightly discovering how to ‘listen to the land’.

The books I mention in this week's podcast are;

‘The Sun and the Serpent’ by Paul Broadhurst & Hamish Miller

‘The Book of Trespass: Crossing the Lines that Divide Us’ by Nick Hayes

‘The Spine of Albion’ by Caroline Hoare and Gary Biltcliffe

And the website https://www.britishpilgrimage.org/

#4 The Fool: Jonathan Kay and all you need is love26 Jul 202401:07:14

This week I’m over the moon to be welcoming the world famous @fooljonathankay to your airwaves. Jonathan is recognised as a leading performer in the ‘Theatre of Immediacy’ of Fooling, and is a highly respected practitioner and teacher of Fooling workshops. He is the founder of the largest street theatre festival in the UK, The Hat Fair, and is an Honorary Fellow of The University of Winchester. He primarily works as a performer and teacher, touring and teaching throughout the world as a Fool for the last 50 years.

Jonathan’s stomping ground is on the cliff between inertia and speed, encouraging participants to fly or to learn how to land, not only in their imagination but also in their purpose. He helps us to look at the hypothetical anchors that can tie people down for a lifetime, engaging them in a compassionate, humorous and sometimes challenging way so they can liberate themselves, turning what appears to be valueless into gold.

#15 An Introduction to Geomancy11 Oct 202401:06:53

#15 An Introduction to Geomancy

WARNING: THIS ONE IS QUITE SAUCY

The literal translation of Geomancy is, ‘Land Divination’, and the term covers an array of magickal practices that work with the land in a conscious and communicative way; Feng Shui, I Ching, and Dowsing to name but a few. In this rather manic and scattered podcast I try to share the story of how and why I became a ‘body dowser’ and ‘geomancer’, having learned that if I invite the land to play an active participatory role in the creative process, by getting out of the way and letting her through, then she’ll never fail to turn up to play her part, bringing awe and profound meaning to what would otherwise be a banal existence.

This episode is a little crazy. I didn’t realise until I started sharing my story, and I only just managed to scratch the surface with this sharing, what a wild and bizarre journey this has turned out to be. The story includes many more chapters and details than I’ve managed to share here in an hour, and I hadn’t realised how complex and lengthy the story had become! Gaia, Mumma Earth, keeps showing up and playing performative diva roles in my life and the work I’m creating. We’re collaborating together to make extraordinary things happen, and I adore her.

I mention in this episode that I’m running a residential immersion weekend in Sark for Samhain and you can find out more information about this through social media. You can get in touch with me on Instagram @kriyaarts or the Nonsense in the Chaos Page on Facebook.

#14 Getting deliciously meta: Anne Clarke’s daughter Niki & how we’ve changed each other’s lives04 Oct 202401:07:08

Trigger warning: This episode does discuss rape

In this episode I have the immense pleasure of talking to Niki, a kind and generous woman who I’ve only met three times, but has had such an impact on my life. I’ll be forever grateful to how open and trusting Niki has been, allowing me to delve into her innermost world and create art from the inspiration I gleaned there, celebrating the ripples that ordinary people leave behind and finding the magic in the mundane.

In the words of Kae Tempest, we are all ‘Modern Ancients’.

If you missed last week’s podcast then listen to that one first, or this one might not make much sense.

#17 Rest is Revolutionary25 Oct 202400:46:00

Resting is a revolutionary act in a world where we’re expected to always keep busy and work our backsides off. This week’s podcast is a call to arms, or a call to nap, to reclaim the precious time that is our lives and take back our right to take leisure without guilt or restlessness. We need to retrain our muscles of boredom, idleness and ultimately, imagination. These are all being stolen from us by the great distrator. Free yourself from the shackles of keeping busy and instead embrace the chaise lounge.

In the words of David Hume,

“Reading and sauntering and lounging and dozing, which I call thinking, is my supreme happiness.”

Huzzah to that. Now I’m off for a little afternoon nap…

I mentioned in this episode that I’ll be interviewing a special secret guest at the Kooky Club on November 21st, which is being held in Candie Gardens, Guernsey. #16 Snow shoes and road kill: Memma the Cavewoman and planting trees by moonlight18 Oct 202400:58:12

Memma aka Sarah Day is a Bushcraft instructor, experimental archaeologist and ancient technologist. I’ve known Sarah for nearly twenty years, having met at Kentwell Hall Tudor Re-creation, a few years before her younger sister Rachel joined, who went on to meet my younger brother Nathan, and through their subsequent marriage, united our two households.

Sarah now runs her own business, ‘Prehistoric Experiences’ which provides educational workshops in schools across the UK and for the public. Bringing the Stone Age to life in vivid detail, she travels from schools to history fairs and other public events, with an animal skin tent, within which you can join Sarah, or Memma, as she teaches you to knap flint tools or weapons, skin and tan an animal, or how to light a fire from sticks. She is a wealth of information and it was a joy to have this opportunity to pick and expansive brain.

#18 Art is Alchemy: Rachael Taylor and alternative ways of living01 Nov 202401:03:25

I met Rachael through us both creating work for Shangri-la at Glastonbury. I had the privilege of interviewing her on the Nomad Stage about her Wearable Waste installation. Rachael describes herself as an intervention artist, fashion educator and podcast host who focuses on sustainability, well being and finding alternatives to the status quo. She creates concepts and interventions that show sustainable alternatives in playful and subversive ways - that connect people to each other and their surroundings.

Rachael is another nature lover, who feels healed and revived from being in nature, and all her work spirals back to finding ways in which we can be guardians and protectors of the planet, rather than consumers and destroyers, looking for alternative ways to enjoy the lives we live, but not at a cost to the land or other people who aren’t immediately in front of us.

In the podcast we talk about;

Rest Is Resistance by Tricia Hersey

The Body Keeps the Score by Bessel van der Kolk

Adventure Revolution by Belinda Kirk

The Nature Principle by Richard Louv

You can follow and learn more about Rachael’s work at her website; shapers_of_society.org

#20 Dreaming of a better future: Heather Sanderson and the power of cycles15 Nov 202401:07:30

Heather describes the menstrual cycle as “Death to birth, dusk to dawn, waxing to waning. In every cycle there’s an opportunity to capture a gem, if you’re willing to pay attention and integrate. Every cycle is a trip – offering you a peek behind the veil. Your work is to integrate this into the everyday. Every menstrual cycle offers the same opportunity; it’s a trip around your psyche, a map for self enquiry, a microdose experience of a rite of passage. Learn how to cross these thresholds skillfully and consciously by harnessing the power of your cycle, preparing you for the bigger whoppers in life - whether you are consciously inviting them in, or they land in your lap in a seemingly unsolicited way.”

I strongly urge everyone to listen to this episode, whether you bleed yourself or not. Everyone in the world is living in houses, working with, or hanging out with people who are experiencing this cyclical part of nature, and by understanding it better, not only is it a window into someone else’s experience of life, which is always fascinating, but there’s so much we could be learning from living life in a cyclical, rather than linear, way. Many men are coming over to the cyclical side of the force and are reaping the benefits of a life that’s more integrated, bite sized, and in tune with their surroundings (the cosmos, the seasons, and the women in their lives). And if you’re someone who does bleed… Definitely listen to this!

Trigger warning: I talk about infertility

In this episode we mention:

Nine Passages of Women and Girls by Gail Burkett

#19 As above, so below: Samhain and embracing the shadows08 Nov 202400:58:55

Thick fog is creeping through the garden surrounding my little cottage on the tiny island of Sark, in the channel islands, and in the distance I can hear the haunting sound of the foghorn, warning sailors and fishermen, with its desolate song, to avoid the rocks that stick up in shards and crags around this dragon filled, cavernous, rock. The clocks have gone back and the darkness creeps in. The wind howls around the house and the veil… The veil feels so…  Flimsy.

In this week’s podcast I’m exploring the Celtic celebration of Samhain, and how this time of year is an opportunity to honour our ancestors, tend to and connect with our grief, and welcome the intimacy this time of year fosters between our everyday outer world and the ‘other’ realms that surround us. Celebrating the potency of working with and deepening our understanding of cycles, so that we might incorporate moments of peace, reflection, and rest, into the otherwise never ending sentence of life.

Join me as I step into the darkness and embrace the shadows. Utilising this opportunity to pause and reflect, at a time of year when we’re invited to mulch, dream, and descend into the underworld, before returning renewed and reborn in the spring.

#27 Entering the Subtle Energy of a Nine Year03 Jan 202500:56:39

This final podcast in the first series of Nonsense in the Chaos was recorded at the Capricorn Dark Moon, which also happens to be my birthday (on NYE), in the last days of December 2024, and in it I explore the power of the 9 energy that we’re now stepping into for 2025. It’s a subtle and slightly tricky energy to navigate, so this episode seeks to help support you set yourself up for greatness.

Nine is the number of limitlessness, but it’s also the dark night of the soul before the lead turns into gold. I recall how the last 9 year - which was back in 2016 - was the year my new career as an artist and performer took off and flourished. I’m therefore super excited to see how this coming year pans out.

To help you navigate your way through this beautiful, gentle, and subtle energy, listen on…

In this podcast I talk about my numerology teacher Remington Donovan, who you can follow @themysticalarts on Patreon and I recommend his book ‘Numerology: A Beginner's Guide to the Mystic Significance of Numbers’

#26 Grass Roots Folk; Daisy Rickman and Singing with the Land27 Dec 202400:59:16

Of all the crazy ways to know Daisy Rickman, she used to be my cleaner back in Brighton circa 2014. This ethereal being became this year’s folk sensation after Daisy was picked up and promoted by the Guardian newspaper at the start of the year, being tipped for the top. Since then she’s spent the year caught up in a whirlwind of success, learning to build her confidence in playing publicly, and developing tools for navigating her way through what really matters and what are the snares of outer world distractions.

From the devil on her shoulder to her sources of inspiration, Daisy shares with me her creative processes and the different ways in which she nurtures and takes care of her relationship to the inner world part of herself and her capacity to embrace the unknown  . If you want to follow Daisy’s music then head over to www.daisyrickman.com where you can also see and purchase her gorgeous artwork.

#25 People Are the Problem... But is Community the Answer?20 Dec 202401:00:04

Some miracles took place this week. In the podcast you hear me casting a spell to break my bonds with feelings of inadequacy, unappreciation and disconnection around my relationships having had a wake up call that had shown me that my perspective wasn't the only one in the mix.

Magically, having cast the spell and broke these bonds, the next day, as I was recording this podcast, I found myself chatting to three people over messenger who I don't normally connect with, and it made my heart sing. It absolutely felt like a little Christmas miracle and has given this festive season an extra bit of sparkle.

The Winter Solstice is all about community, and in this week's episode I talk about how I've come to realise the importance of community, how it's a vital investment for the future, and also - in the words of Heather Sanderson - community it’s an ongoing conversation around how we share space. Planet Earth is all our space, so how we negotiate living on her and sharing this space in the future, feels like it's the key to whether we thrive or have to fight to survive.

#24 Do Not be Hasty; Gordon Field in Conversation with Trees13 Dec 202401:12:17

When Spring unfolds the beechen leaf, and sap is in the bough; When light is on the wild-wood stream, and wind is on the brow; When stride is long, and breath is deep, and keen the mountain-air, Come back to me! Come back to me, and say my land is fair!

Ent’s Marching Song - Tolkien

This week I’m chatting to my dear friend Gordon Field, who talks to trees and travels through portals. His reality is quite different to mine, and yet there are similarities. I too am picking up on the sentient relationship that’s possible with Mumma Earth when you open yourself up to the plausibility of such things. And my take on it is that all of our inner worlds are different and unique, so each of us will therefore have a bespoke world experience of how we connect to and communicate with nature. What’s become simplified over the years, extracted down to those with ‘green fingers’ talking to their house plants, in indigenous cultures, is a fully fledged dynamic relationship with active two way dialogues and guidance being sought by humans from plants and the land. I miss that guidance personally and am very happy to be welcoming it back in.

#23 The Power of Ceremony to Refill the Well06 Dec 202400:57:14

Whilst on my holibobs I used my portable equipment to create a podcast for you this week as I walk my way around Guernsey and muse on the year I’ve had, especially thinking about my health. It has been a big and busy year. It’s been an ‘8’ year in numerology, which is the number of ‘life-force energy’ and therefore burnout was a likely side-effect of living through such a powerful year. I tried hard to be a fit receptacle, by exercising, doing my morning practice and eating the right foods, but all in all I’ve been burnt out for most of the year. I don’t have all the answers for what the root cause of this might be, but explore some possible reasons whilst on my rambles, as I walk around the island and take in the views.

Ceremony is one of the things that helps me to refill the well. Even if it feels like a drag or I’m not in the mood, I never regret it once I’m there and leave every one of them feeling rejuvenated and healed. I share how, for me, ceremony acts like punctuation in what would otherwise be a never ending sentence of life. Ceremony allows me time to stop, breath, re-evaluate, check I’m still heading in the right direction and correct my course if I’ve gone astray.

As I made this recording on the road I’m afraid there isn’t an accompanying video for my Patreon supporters, and the sound quality isn’t studio level, but I think it has a different ‘in the field’ quality that I hope you’ll still enjoy.

Books I mention in this episode;

Venus by Lisa Lister

Wicca, A Guide for the Solitary Practitioner by Scott Cuningham

Mary Magdalene Revealed by Meggan Watterson

#22 A Labour of Love; Molly O'Brien and the Power of Childbirth29 Nov 202401:07:06

Molly O’Brien is an old friend of mine and an incredible and highly experienced midwife. Molly has more than 20 years of clinical practice experience and has attended over a thousand births. She’s also a hypnobirth and birth preparation teacher, an associate university lecturer, has created courses for midwives, campaigned for midwife led birth units and has been a passionate student and enabler of normal physiological birth.

Her favourite work was in the home environment and in a Midwife Led Birth Unit. It’s allowed her to attend hundreds of undisturbed physiological births and this has given her the opportunity to make a systematic exploration of midwifery skills and observations that can help resolve long difficult labours caused by a suboptimal position. The techniques and strategies that emerged from this time helped her revolutionise her own practice. She began to regularly witness dramatic progress as she put them to use in “difficult labours”. Now she teaches the course she developed for Birth Professionals, ‘Biomechanics for Birth’.

Molly taught me the importance and power of sisterhood, from meeting her when I was in my late twenties. I remember sitting with her around the kitchen table, sitting with a group of women, spanning four decades between us all, and us talking about women’s issues in a way I’d never experienced before. Molly brought wisdom and insight to that conversation that taught me, for the first time, how powerful age and experience is, and how we’d all been sold up the river by being tricked into fearing age and turning on our fellow sisters, rather than supporting and embracing each other in our journeys. It changed the way I treated other women after that.

#21 Venus and an introduction to the Archetypal Realm22 Nov 202400:58:26

In this week’s episode I introduce you to the archetypal soup that is collective consciousness, or ‘The Dreaming’, within which we’re all infinite and connected to everyone and everything else. It is from this place that we’re all one. And in this place we can discover and own the atmosphere that we personally bring to the party, connecting into the archetype we’re here representing on earth.

We are all individuals, but are also facets of an inner-divine-jewel. A sparkling gemstone of divine beauty that’s made up of all the archetypal energies that together create both the outer and inner universes. This episode explores how to discover the foothills of this work and begin to awaken your relationship with your own archetypal power.

In this subtle year of 9 energy, it is a key time of purification and the perfect opportunity to clear up our shadow work, ready for turning our lead into gold next year in 2026.

In this episode Jolie mentions;

I make a mistake in the podcast when I say Venus goes into retrograde in Pisces on March 1st. She does go retrograde then and will be passing through Pisces, but she begins her descent into the underworld from Aries, then passes into Pisces during her 40 days and 40 nights of retrograding.

#35 Praying to Trickster; Howard Gayton and the power of Mask (Pt1)25 Apr 202501:17:04

This week’s episode of Nonsense in the Chaos is the first of a two-part offering, born from a rich, two-hour conversation with my dear friend and fellow fool, Howard Gayton. We properly connected during a 500-mile pilgrimage from London (or, as Howard rightly points out, Henley) to COP26 in Glasgow—though in truth, we stopped walking in Edinburgh.

Howard Gayton has worked for over thirty years as a theatre director, performer, and teacher specialising in Commedia dell'Arte and other forms of mask theatre, as well as puppetry, foolery and folk drama. His work is inspired by all manner of mythic tricksters, zanni figures and sacred clowns, as well as by the use of masks in drama and sacred rituals the world over.

In this deliciously layered chat, we explore the Trickster archetype through the lens of fooling, drawing on the historical threads of Commedia dell’Arte and the slapstick world of Punch and Judy. I could have talked to Howard forever—and very nearly did. I hope you enjoy our creative musings.

#34 Schrodinger's Reality18 Apr 202500:53:58

In this week’s episode of Nonsense in the Chaos, I explore the idea that we each hold the power to shape our own reality. Using the metaphor of a single pixel in a vast image, I delve into how tending to your own light—your energy, your choices, your presence—can influence not only your personal world but the collective picture we’re all creating together. This episode invites you to reflect on how to make your pixel shine as brightly and vibrantly as possible, and how, in doing so, you open the door to manifesting any reality you can imagine.

#33 A Vocal Odyssey; Nessi Gomes and the Spirit of Your Voice11 Apr 202501:17:27

You’re in for a real treat this week with the utterly gorgeous Nessi Gomes. Born and bred in Guernsey, Nessi is of Portuguese descent and a stunning singer- songwriter. Channelling influences from both sides of her ethnicity, Nessi blends the essence of the traditional, emotional and 'larger than life' Fado folk music of Portugal with British contemporary inspiration. Nessi makes music from the heart and the guts. If you’ve never heard of her before then go have a listen to Nessi’s work before tuning in to today’s podcast. Then sit back and enjoy the wisdom and insights Nessi has to offer. Our chat was an absolute delight and I can’t wait to share this week’s Nonsense in the Chaos with you. Enjoy!

#32 Claiming Your Sovereignty04 Apr 202500:51:46

As Neptune enters Aries for the first time in 165 years, the sooner we sit back comfortably in our thrones of power and calmly and collectively claim our sovereignty, the better off we are going to be. Not to take our place as violent tyrants, but as self assured, content, higher versions of ourselves. Our biggest, brightest, bravest versions. This is freely available at any given moment and opens up the possibility of re-pairing with our twisted twins.

But claiming your sovereignty isn’t always easy. It asks us to question, to challenge, and to risk stepping outside of the narratives we’ve been handed. It’s a pilgrimage in itself—one that requires courage, clarity, and a willingness to be seen as you truly are.

#31 RevoLOVEtion; Rebecca Kenny and Creating Spaces for Joy28 Mar 202501:20:47

I met Rebecca at the Academy of Creative Training in 2005 while studying acting. Drama school was a joy, and we shared a fantastic cohort. Since then, I’ve admired her fearless exploration of creativity as rebellion, pushing the boundaries of theatre, movement, and the body.

A multidisciplinary performance artist, music maker, and cabaret clown, Rebecca infuses her work with surrealism, playfulness, and connection. Her alter-ego, Frieda Love, launched a "revoLOVEtion" in 2017, using neo-burlesque, clowning, and physical storytelling to challenge perceptions of female bodies and movement. Lately, she’s been diving into Butoh and Gaga techniques, making dance inclusive for all body types.

Her work is also deeply tied to nature. In 2019, she lived in the Pyrenees on a dance residency, letting the land shape her movement. She sees theatre and dance as ways to rewild the body, stepping back into something instinctual and real. And she has just completed a residency in Colombia where she created the sharing ‘Listen, I love you, Joy is coming.’

A witch in training, herbalist wannabe, and best friend to the moon, Rebecca’s work is radical, playful, and unique.

Follow her @frieda_love_

I can’t wait to have her on Nonsense in the Chaos to talk about silliness as resistance and movement as magic!

#30 Disrupting Complicity21 Mar 202501:04:20

This week, we’re diving into the quiet power of disruption. How do the smallest acts of resistance ripple out into wider change? How can challenging complicity in our everyday lives—our words, our choices, our silences—shift the larger systems we exist within? From the personal to the political, we explore how breaking patterns on the micro level can transform the macro.

Join me as we unravel the ways we’re conditioned to conform, and how we can reclaim agency, one small act of defiance at a time.

The ‘Witchfool are You? Course’ starts in May. Email nonsenseinthechaos@gmail.com for more information.

#29 Fool… FOOL! Dan Sumption and Playing with Possibility.14 Mar 202501:15:04

Dan is a fascinating fellow, filled with curiosity and a love for mischief, who has lived a rich and varied life from “doing mad things when the universe tells him to”. By keeping an open mind Dan found himself on an adventure with Daisy Campbell and 69 Discordian pilgrims, travelling on a pilgrimage from The Cerne Abbas Giant in Dorchester to the CERN Large Hadron Collider as part of a mass magical act. He also had the honour of playing the ‘Fool’ for Festival 23, where he met Megan Clifton, who we were introduced to back at the start of the Nonsense in the Chaos.

These days Dan lives with his partner off grid up north in the borderlands between England and Scotland, where he spends his days writing and publishing books, walking his dog, and singing to the land. That’s when he’s not unearthing long forgotten springs with his recently bequeathed ‘healing stick’. I’m looking forward to walking on a pilgrimage with Dan later in the year, for a sing song to the Michael and Mary lines.

#37 Praying to Trickster; Howard Gayton and the power of Mask (Pt2)09 May 202501:00:28

This week’s episode of Nonsense in the Chaos is the follow-up episode in a two-part offering, born from a rich, two-hour conversation with my dear friend and fellow fool, Howard Gayton. In this half we pull the cards and discuss the topics that the universe leads us to.

Howard and I connected properly during a 500-mile pilgrimage from London (or, as Howard rightly points out, Henley) to COP26 in Glasgow—though in truth, we stopped walking in Edinburgh.

#36 Necessity is the Mother of Invention01 May 202500:52:05

This week I'm exploring what’s going on with the planets, as we thankfully draw to a close the last huge unprecedented shift of ‘once in a lifetime’ planetary signatures. There will be more to follow, but April was probably the craziest astrological month we'll ever know. Well done for surviving it.

And I explore the power of necessity. A theme I've been mulling over a lot recently and keeps coming up against. What's necessary right now in your life and what's fluff? Where is best to place your energies? Your time is precious. Make sure its spent in ways that are necessary for your well being and happiness.

#50 Making Friends with Plants; The Seed Sistas and the Healing Power of Herbalism08 Aug 202501:05:35

For this special 50th episode, I’m joined by the incredible Seed Sistas – two dear friends who have profoundly shaped my understanding of magic, health, vitality, and the deep, reciprocal relationship we can cultivate with the natural world.

Forming friendships with wild plants has been a cornerstone of my pilgrimages. As I’ve walked across the UK, these living beings have offered me company, wisdom, and wonder. With them by my side, I’ve never felt alone. This way of experiencing the world has become utterly precious to me – a source of joy and transformation that I couldn’t now imagine life without.

It has also taught me a profound empathy for indigenous peoples who witness the destruction of their more-than-human kin – trees, plants, animals – and feel that loss as we would a friend or family member. All life is sacred. All relationships matter.

I absolutely adore the way the Seed Sistas see the world, and it’s a true privilege to introduce them to you. These visionary, warrior women bring so much wisdom, humour and heart – and I can’t wait for you to meet them

#49 Letting the Universe Lead & Trusting the Unknown01 Aug 202500:51:53

During this week’s podcast, I reflect on the adventure that unfolds when I let the universe lead and trust the unknown. I explore the lessons of Mercury Retrograde, tune into Kairos time, and speak on the importance of keeping my nervous system regulated by trusting the process — especially as I head into a season where everything seems to be happening at once.

How do I disrupt the old narratives, stay organised, meet my responsibilities, earn money, and nurture my relationships — all at the same time?

It is possible, if I stay calm and trust that all will be well.
And all will be well, if I create it to be so.

So mote it be.

#40 Gemini Season and Untwisting the Twisted Twin30 May 202501:00:28

Recorded on the Gemini Dark Moon, in the throes of Gemini Season, this is an investigation into the dynamics of the inner and outer versions of ourselves. Exploring the archetypal realm, in lieu of it being the ‘Witchfool Are You?’ Course. This is the time of year, when I support participants to explore which archetypes rule them. This episode untwists the sphincter that separates our juicy infinite inner world to unite it with the infinite chaos of the outer world.

Our outer world is desperate for some inner world magic. Too much Thin-King has made it brittle, ‘othering’ and weak. The rich juiciness of the inner world is the balm that will heal and unite this divide. Bringing balance and harmony to both the micro and the macro.

Listen now to hear more about how this all works…

#39 Sisterhood the Play; A gentle but fearless adventure into the dark heart of patriarchal rule.23 May 202501:20:38

TRIGGER WARNINGS: This week's episode is a recording of Sisterhood the play, which deals with themes of sexual abuse, infertility, suicide, and menopause.

I'm sharing this in memory of Sophia, who created the live soundscape for this production and toured with me around East Anglia on a healing tour to all the places where Matthew Hopkins tortured and executed witches.

Like Handmaid's Tale, but with more hope and gallows humour, Sisterhood is a gentle but fearless adventure into the dark heart of patriarchal rule. Three women, aged 20, 40 and 60 (But not a virgin, mother or hag in sight) stand on a precipice, the patriarchy watching over them – flaming torches aloft – threatening to hang them all. Sisterhood is a devised multimedia tale introducing you to a sisterhood caught between two timelines: the witch trials of the 16thC and modern-day women facing a world in political and environmental upheaval. Sisterhood transports the audience, in this live performance, to a church cell in Wilmington, where three women await their trial in the morning. Soothing and passionate storytelling interweaves the stories of these three women with vestiges from the performer’s own lives, to reveal an immediate and clear association.

GROUNDBREAKING WORK “One of the best play scripts I’ve seen at the Fringe… At its core Sisterhood is a superbly written, intelligent, and essential play, masterfully portrayed by its three actresses, exploring the role of male domination, misinformation, sexual abuse, and age discrimination through the lens of the past but contrasted with moments drawn from the modern day.” - Fringe Review

#38 A Meadow of Delight; Filling the Cup of Grief With Rainbows and Sparkles16 May 202501:10:15

In this deeply personal episode, recorded in the wake of the Beltane fire, I share reflections on the recent passing of one of my dearest friends - Sophia - a soul woven into the fabric of my life. A Meadow of Delight is a gentle wander through memory, magic, and mourning, honouring the ripples she leaves behind and the light she still casts in my world.

Grief is often feared, tucked away or silenced. But here, we cradle it with reverence. I explore how grief and love are two sides of the same coin. How to fill the cup of sorrow with rainbows, with sparkles, with tenderness. This episode is a ritual, a remembering, and a reminder that the ache of loss is sacred. Join me in celebrating a life lived brightly, and in finding beauty within the breaking.

Listen, pause, breathe—there’s treasure in the tears.

#48 Language is Power; Ray Howard and Revealing Reality Through Grammar25 Jul 202500:57:07

This week on Nonsense in the Chaos, I finally sat down with someone who's become a bit of a mystery and a marvel to me over the past few years: Ray Howard.

When I first heard of Ray, he was introduced with a wink and a grin as “the island’s hobo.” That label never sat quite right with me – and after our conversation, I know why. Behind the weather-beaten clothes and wandering spirit is a razor-sharp mind with a deep curiosity for the unseen structures that shape our world.

Ray is, in truth, a travelling intellectual. Though often spotted on Sark, he’s mainly based in Oslo and has an intense fascination with the mechanics of linguistics – not just how we speak, but what our words hide, what they reveal, and how meaning lives between the lines. Our chat spiralled into the philosophy of language, the layers beneath conversation, and the strange, shifting relationship between truth and perception.

It wasn’t just a talk – it was a peeling back of the layers of meaning. Ray’s mind dances between ideas like stepping stones, and I found myself running to keep up. In the best way.

If you’re into language, travel, or challenging assumptions, this episode is for you. And if you've ever passed someone off with a label – even playfully – this one might just make you look again.

#47 Let’s Kick this Reality to the Curb & Be the 51%

I’m feeling rebellious, disruptive, and fed up with the status quo. It’s time for a change—and it has to rise from the soil, the stories, and the people at the roots. No more waiting. No more hoping someone else has it handled. They don’t. We have to do this. It’s on us now.

In this week’s episode of Nonsense in the Chaos, I’m cracking open the real questions: What are we going to do about this mess we’re in? How do we turn the ship before it sinks? And what does it mean to choose the side of life when the world’s on fire?

I’m turning to what matters most—Love, community, Mumma Earth, land magik—and calling in the rebel priestess in all of us. It’s time to wake the witch, rally the dreamers, and start tipping that delicate balance.

We are the 51%. We are the turning. Let’s swing the pendulum into the light—together.

#46 Rolling with the Future; Roz Rolls and a Vision of Hope11 Jul 202501:12:50

I was absolutely thrilled to interview Roz Rolls this week, fresh off the boat from New Zealand and back on Sark for a visit. Roz is genuinely one of the coolest, most inspiring people I’ve ever met. We first connected around the fire at the Nook—our little sacred spot on the island where we gather under the stars and watch the sunset.

Meeting her felt like being welcomed into a circle of wise elders—something I’ve had the honour of experiencing a few times in my life—and I was instantly drawn to her. She carries this deep, grounded knowledge that spans the spiritual, political, and scientific realms, and speaking with her was both eye-opening and uplifting.

I didn’t know where the conversation would lead, but I knew it would be special—and Roz didn’t disappoint. I’m absolutely over the moon to be sharing this episode with you, and I really hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

#45 Glastonbury Festival and the Miracle of Reality04 Jul 202500:54:49

It's been a year since the Nonsense in the Podcast began and it is a pleasure to be bringing you this week's episode from Glastonbury Festival 2025!

It was a bit of a tough one though, even amidst having an amazing time, surrounded by people I love and adore. Who never fail to make me laugh.

But there’s so much conflict and pressure in the world right now. We’re all tired and life's hard. We’re more than this. Life's more than this. It’s all bigger than this. And the game, the inner world, the Dreaming, our creativity… It’s all more than this. I don’t know how it’s all going to figure out, but having been at Glastonbury this year, and experiencing a vision there, I am reassured once more that all will be well.

AND things are not right. Corruption, neo-liberalism, propaganda, censorship, fascism, lies… These all are happening and the UK is shockingly volatile. Glastonbury Festival likewise feels shaky. Like it has lost its way and is in danger of collapsing. As does the UK. These are difficult times. We are witnessing genocide and are being censored from speaking out against it. Things are a mess.

But we will find a way through all this. We must keep going. We will find a miracle. Things will correct themselves. And love, as always, is the answer.

#44 Purification and Intoxication as Teachers27 Jun 202501:07:45

I said at the start of the year that I’d be doing a dry year and listener Gemma Rogers wrote in to ask me how that was going and if I could do a podcast about my experience of having a dry year. Spoiler alert… I didn’t manage it. Listen in as I share my journey with sobriety, and intoxication, working with all the elements of the ride as teachers.

I’m also aware of the irony that this episode is coming out during the week that I’m at Glastonbury Festival, where I’ll be making the most of the luxuries available to me by being on the Big Big Rock and partying like a mofu, as one can over there. But from July… I’m back on the little rock, and back on the wagon! Watch this space.

#43 Sark Life and the Legend that is Jimmy Martin20 Jun 202501:03:01

This is the first time I’ve interviewed someone who lives here on the Island of Sark. Jimmy Martin is an absolute star and it’s a delight to be able to share this beautiful soul with you. We talk about what life is like living here in a tiny community and all the different hats we have to wear. But we juggle all the things so that we can give something back to the island. We have each other’s backs.

People are lovely and it’s important that we remember this in a world where the narrative is forever trying to divide and conquer us. In a world that so often pushes division, it’s vital to remember just how lovely people can be. Community, collaboration, and looking out for one another—these are the keys to building a future where we can all grow and thrive.

#42 The Meaning of Life and A Deeply Profound Bun Dance13 Jun 202500:48:55

In the forty-second episode of Nonsense in the Chaos, we delve into the sacred significance of the number 42. As revealed in The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams, the answer to life, the universe, and everything is 42 — but the real puzzle lies in not knowing the question. This episode becomes a ‘Quest-I-On’ of its own, leading us to the word abundance.

Through this lens, we explore gratitude as a daily practice and learn how to trust the flow of the universe. I reflect on the many ways my life is filled with abundance — and how, if we look closely, so are all of ours. Join me for an intergalactic dance with meaning, mystery, and a healthy serving of bun-based philosophy.

#41 The Feminine Lineage; Naomi Smyth and an alternative route to Fooling06 Jun 202501:03:27

I first met Naomi through working at Glastonbury Festival putting together the performative elements and installations for Shangri-la, the late night part of the festival, or the naughty corner, as we like to call it. We had worked together for a couple of days before we clocked that we were both fools and it all suddenly made so much sense. I’ve been interested to learn more about Naomi’s story and arts practices for some time now, so interviewing her for the podcast was a great opportunity for finding out more about her world.

Naomi is a PhD researcher at Bath Spa University, focusing on the creative and technological responses of theatre artists to COVID restrictions. She’s an immersive theatre writer, director and performer with experience as an independent filmmaker and freelance videographer. Based in and around Bristol, she’s spent years working with Bristol born arts collectives like Shangri-la, Boomtown and the Invisible Circus.
