26: Should I ditch dairy?
29 Aug 2022
00:18:01
Group coffee orders can be awkward enough. If you have a complex order, it can be quite daunting to attach your name to a three quarter full extra hot latte. But on Jenna's latest group ordering ordeal, she was shocked to realised she was the only one still drinking cow's milk with her coffee... Feels like we need to chat to Lyndi about this.
As plant based milks continue to rise in popularity, are these really the healthiest options for all people? Are they really the best choice for our planet?

25: Does fruit have too much sugar?
22 Aug 2022
00:19:07
Were you taught that fruit is fattening, a banana has too many carbs or you can only eat low-sugar fruit? If so, we are very sorry!
The diet industry has taught us to fear perfectly healthy food like fruit and vegetables. As a result, the list of ‘allowed’ foods becomes so teeny, tiny that we’re left wondering “Wtf am I even allowed to eat anymore!”
But is fruit actually unhealthy?

22: Overwhelmed? Drowning? Out-of-sort? Let's chat about Anxiety.
01 Aug 2022
00:20:42
We firmly believe that speaking to a trained mental health professional is 100% wellness and 0% wankery. So in the spirit of wellness, this is the first of many conversations we will have on the podcast about mental health. We need to give our emotional health the same importance we give physical wellbeing.
Lyndi, Jenna and millions of other people around the world have been diagnosed with clinical anxiety. It's nothing to be ashamed of, but it is something we can work with and learn from everyday. Lyndi has learnt a lot along her journey with anxiety and every conversation about treatment options or medication further removes the stigmas around asking for help.
If you’re struggling with anxiety, depression or any other mental health condition (or even if you are just feeling ‘out-of-sorts’ emotionally), it doesn’t hurt to simply ‘have a chat’ with a professional. You can start with your GP, who can refer you to an awesome Psychiatrist or psychologist. Or you can find a counsellor you like.
The hardest is part is reaching out for support and help. You’ll have to be brave but I promise, it is so worth it.

21: The truth behind lemon detox water (and other internet health advice)
25 Jul 2022
00:27:30
With all the pseudoscience and wacky nutrition nonsense, it’s hard to know what to eat anymore. Huge amounts of nutrition information isn’t always a good thing.. and with the internet era comes a whole new wave of information.
When every Instagrammer with an interest in avocados feels comfortable handing out health advice (even when it’s completely wrong)... we have a problem.
When Netflix releases a new documentary every 6 months that makes us scared of a different food group... we have a problem.
As a dietitian and nutritionist, Lyndi comes across bad health advice all the time. So we thought it was time to sort the wellness from the wankery and run through the worst health advice on the internet – along with some important things to learn along with way.

20: Is organic food or fancy supplements the secret to health?
18 Jul 2022
00:15:37
During Covid lockdowns, Lyndi was bright eyed and bushy tailed and set on having her own organic vegetable patch. Upon reflection she realised she was probably impacted by the purity ideals of 'eating organic'. She ended up paying a ridiculous amount of money per carrot and was providing a daily delicious lunch to all the local wildlife. But do we really need to go to these extremes? Is it worth the money to buy organic produce?
Rohan sent in a question for this week's podcast asking just that... oh and he wants to know if he should be spending money on expensive supplements.
Let's get into it.

19: Do you find you lose weight when you ditch carbs? The truth behind Keto
11 Jul 2022
00:14:29
The Keto diet is the just Atkins diet that has been sold to you again.
Every few years, a new diet becomes the current obsession. Keto is having it’s moment but before then it was the Atkins diet, South Beach, Cabbage diet, Body type diet etc. The list goes on and on...
So what is the Ketogenic diet and does it really work?
Disclaimer: The truth is that all diets work. As long as you can stick to them for the rest of your life. Science says. But most diets are utterly unsustainable. Which is why I believe the best diet to lose weight is no diet at all.

04 Jul 2022
00:12:30
You don’t need to weigh yourself. Ever.
In fact, weighing yourself may make it harder to find your healthiest weight in the long term. Have you noticed how seeing a number that you didn’t want on the scale can throw you into a spin and actually demotivate you?

16: Is collagen powder the secret to perfect skin & eternal life?
27 Jun 2022
00:11:37
Like with all things in the health space, there is a lot of confusing information out there. With marketers trying to convince us to buy expensive protein powders or fancy supplements in order to be 'beautiful', it’s easy to think that we need to spend (big) on them!
This week we heard from our wonderful listener Sophie, with a question that is on SO many people's lips. Is collagen powder worth the money? Will it live up to the hype? Or is it just wankery? Have a listen to find out.

15: Does your mum criticise your body? Listen to this.
22 Jun 2022
00:29:41
Lyndi has spoken to many women who tell a similar story and ask “how can I stop my mum commenting on or criticising my weight and body?” So it's time to tackle it on the podcast.
Because remember when people comment on your weight or body – or criticise how you look – it stays with you and affects your self-confidence and relationship with food. It does more harm than good.
The truth is that IF your mum is commenting on your weight or criticising your body and food choices – it says a lot more about her relationship with food than it does about your size.
But what can you do about it? Well listen to this episode, and if you still want some more info check out my blog post.

20 Jun 2022

As grocery prices continue to rise, many people are having to reassess what they are putting in their carts.
In this episode we had a great listener question from Erin, about how to the overcome fear or worry around using 'normal' and cost effective ingredients like flour, real butter or full fat meats. Do you really need to spend extra money on honey, or is sugar a good alternative?

12: But I have to finish everything off my plate?
13 Jun 2022
00:12:36
From the moment you were born, you intuitively knew how much food your body needed to get enough energy. You cried when you were hungry and stopped eating when you were satisfied. You did not need a meal plan to tell you the best way to eat for your blood type or a diet book to guide your eating.
You were born understanding how to best fuel your body so that you thrived, grew strong and healthy. But for many of us, we have lost this.
Being told to always finish everything on your plate, silly diet rules or learning to eat according to the clock, all damage our ability to eat intuitively.
This week's listener question came from Jess, and we unpack how we can get retrain our thinking about clearing out plates and become in tune with our hunger again.

11: ‘Bouncing back’ after baby, and other BS
08 Jun 2022
00:33:10
The beautiful, the brutal and the downright ugly.
Before Lyndi physically birthed a tiny boy she was blissfuly ignorant about the realities of motherhood. Of course as a dietitian by profession, she was aware of the nutritional requirements for breastfeeding but only now having experienced it herself does she truly understand the insatiable omnipresent hunger.
The rude shock of childbirth and its groundswell of hormones and emotions, instantaneously gave way to the even ruder one of being charged with the round-the-clock task of keeping a human baby alive.
Lyndi opens up about grieving her old life and finding routine in her new one. About the normal struggles of resisting the temptation to diet, making time for yourself and most importantly the impact it can have on your self esteem and mental health.... to own a bra that fits you.

10. How NOT to pass an unhealthy food relationship to your kids.
06 Jun 2022
00:20:49
Chances are you were raised by parents who had never heard of the phrase ‘healthy relationship with food’.
If this doesn't apply to you - what a win! But this definitely applies for Lyndi, Jenna and our listener of the week, Gabi, who sent this question across.
While your parents may have said or done things accidentally that impacted your relationship with food (making it harder to enjoy food without guilt, stop eating when you feel full and love your body), you can help raise your children to have a healthy relationship with food.
There are a few things to keep in mind if you want your child to learn how to eat intuitively, live healthily and love their body.

9. Should I detox for my gut health?
01 Jun 2022
00:36:45
It’s impressive to think there are around 100 trillion micro-organisms from bacteria to fungi, viruses and protozoa that all exist in your gut! A growing amount of research suggests that these gut bugs play an important role in your health supporting immunity, mood and oh-so much more. But the research still has so far to go and where there is uncertainty, there can be misinformation and wankery!
While your period, sleep and stress can all impact gut health, there is a lot you can do to support a health gut microbiome - without spending hundreds of dollars on supplements or going on a restrictive diet.
So why are we all obsessed with gut health? And what should we be focusing on?

30 May 2022
00:11:40
How many glasses of water should we be drinking every day.... and how big is a glass of water anyway?
In this episode, Lyndi answers a question from Pam about how much water we really should be drinking. Does one set number apply to all people? And is intuitive thirst something we should be subscribing to?

7: Am I addicted to sugar?
25 May 2022
00:32:03
Do you feel like you’re addicted to sugar? If you get sweet cravings, it sure can feel that way.
Today, 70% of the products in grocery stores have added sugar. Naturally, you have developed a taste for sweet things.
But, the good news is you can retrain your brain to stop sugar cravings… and you don’t even have to quit sugar to do it.
Don’t ‘quit sugar’ by cutting out all sugar from your diet. Just aim to eat less added sugar. It’s especially important you don’t cut out whole grains, carbs or fruit because fruit is not fattening.

114: Do I have orthorexia or am I just a healthy eater? Recognising the signs before your relationship with food turns into an unhealthy obsession.
12 May 2024
00:10:35
Are you always trying to eat perfectly healthy?
As a dietitian, I've watched the pursuit of perfect health become an all-consuming battle for many. Myself included.
In today's episode, we dive into orthorexia nervosa, the thin line between healthy eating and an extreme fixation on so-called 'clean' eating.
We'll explore how the pursuit of eating perfectly can lead to nutritional deficiencies, social isolation, and worsen our mental health. And discuss the importance of support, understanding our relationship with food, and the journey back to enjoying life - beyond what's on our plates.

6: Am I on a diet or eating intuitively?
23 May 2022
00:11:53
Diets don’t work – 96% of them fail long-term. So why are more people on a diet than ever?
Welcome to a brave new ‘wellness’ world where diets are dressed up and paraded as a ‘healthy lifestyle choice’ or ‘a way of eating’.
This sly rebrand tricks you into thinking you’re doing the “right thing” for your body. But diets, like the Atkins Diet, Cabbage Soup Diet and Lemon Detox Diet to name a few I’ve tried over the years, were much less damaging when they said what they were on the tin (though still plenty harmful.)
But it appears even diet companies are realising that diets don't work and are rebranding to try and entice us back in. So how do we know if we are eating intuitively or really just on another diet.
Not across intuitive eating? Well, you know instinctively know when you are tired and when you need the bathroom. But did you know that a very similar mechanism can help you regulate your weight without you even trying? You may even be familiar with this system. It is called appetite. Getting back in tune with it can teach you how to stop yo yo dieting for good.
As more and more diet companies try and commercialise the principles of intuitive eating, we need to know the clear warning signs to look out for!

5: Struggling to lose the last 5 kilos?
18 May 2022
00:29:20
Struggling and just can’t lose the last few pounds? Do you know why it’s hard to lose them?
Society and your Instagram feed have programmed you to think that’s how you ‘should’ look, so you torture yourself to lose those last few pounds.
But why am I not losing weight in a calorie deficit, on an expensive weight loss program, or meal plan?
If it feels like your body is fighting against you when you try losing the last 5 kilos, maybe it’s because of your body IS fighting against you?
When Lyndi was a dieter, she used to punish herself to try and look better in a bikini....(whatever this even means?)
But it made everything harder… But not anymore.
P.s. Have you tried a bajillion diets, only to regain the weight (and more)?
It’s likely that diet culture is keeping you stuck in this vicious cycle, full of empty promises and failed attempts. If you want to build real health, check out my best-selling book Your Weight is Not the Problem. Get the deets and access to a free audio sample HERE.

4: Confused about how much you're allowed to eat? Listen to this.
16 May 2022
00:14:34
23 almonds. 2 cheese slices. ½ cup pasta. 21 grapes. A virtuous way of eating, or a gazillion reasons to have an untrusting relationship with food?
Portion control. It’s something we’ve been taught. A system that can help us eat correctly. A way to lose weight. A means for exercising willpower.
But the clue to its insidious inflicted misery is in the second half of the name. Control. Portion control creates shame and guilt about what we eat. It makes food a moral issue. It amplifies our fear of gaining weight, generates stress and takes up a lot of mental energy. And along the way, we forget how to eat normally.
How can you build a meaningful life when you’re busy counting almonds in the name of achieving the “correct” body?

1: "I feel fat". What next?
05 May 2022
00:27:05
It's here! The first official episode of the No Wellness Wankery podcast... and we are starting with a doozy.
"I feel fat".
‘Feeling fat’ is something Lyndi & Jenna know too well. For Lyndi, it was triggered by a number of things, like seeing a photo of herself where she looked much bigger than she wanted to, feeling uncomfortable in her clothes, scrolling social media and comparing herself to others. Or after a weekend of eating more than she planned or not exercising as much as she wanted. Oh, and a friend losing weight when I didn't could also lead to 'feeling fat'.
Unfortunately, ‘feeling fat’ doesn’t motivate you to get healthy or stay healthy. When you ‘feel fat’, your knee-jerk reaction is to go on a wild diet or bury your head in a tub of Ben & Jerry's ice cream. Neither of those things will help long term.
How to stop feeling fat? In this episode we unpack some of the things that can make a difference to your health, without the side serving of body-loathing.
Plus, we want to end each episode by calling out someone in the wellness world who is doing great things. Yay. Let's do it.
P.s. Let’s stay connected on Instagram! No wellness wankery, I promise. Just bs-free and practical health advice, so that you can feel strong and confident in your already wonderful body.

113: "I want to be skinny!" How to navigate bad body image days
05 May 2024
00:22:40
Does "I wish I was skinny. I HATE how my body looks" sound familiar?
Wanting to be skinny is something Lyndi & Natalia know too well.
We live in a world that tells us the most impressive thing a woman can be is thin. It's no wonder we are constantly trying to lose weight. But this isn't actually helping us be healthier, more confident or happier.
When you wake up and hate how you look, your knee-jerk reaction might be to go on a diet or cancel plans. But neither of these things helps in the long term.
So how do you navigate these bad body image days? Let's unpack what to do when your body image and self-esteem spiral in 8 simple steps.
Reclaim getting dressed so it gives you joy, instead of sucking confidence with my Confidence Cure Style Series.

109: Why can't I stop overeating at night? I'm worried about my weight
06 Apr 2024
00:21:49
Ever wondered why you can't stop eating at night?
Can you relate to the feeling of late-evening pantry raids after a not-so-peachy day. You might eat a biscuit, then five minutes later a slice of cheese. Followed by a handful of grapes… and half a Mars bar. Then go back to the biscuits for (probably) 6 more.
…Trying to fill that hole, that gap, that needed to be fed.
If you are nodding along, thinking, "Mmm-Hmm, this is me," just know you're not alone. I’ve been there, done that, plenty of times myself.
Together, we'll uncover WHY those (unhelpful) daytime diets might set us up for evening binges and HOW a shift towards balanced, intentional eating to build healthier habits to kick emotional eating to the curb.
Say hello to a world where complex carbs, proteins, healthy fats, and fiber are your BFFs in the fight against the late-night munchies, and where you can FINALLY feel in control around food.
The second half of today's chat we peel back the layers of emotional eating - with experiences from my own journey. If you've ever found solace in a cookie (or half the packet..) we're going to break down those patterns and learn how to find comfort beyond the pantry and let go of the food-guilt (HOORAY!)

108: Nat's Real Story "I never thought I was thin enough"
30 Mar 2024
00:31:49
"You're constantly striving for more, you want to be thinner, you want to look better. And it's just like this toxic path that never really ends and it never gets you anywhere. I should have asked for help..."
On this week's episode I am joined by real story guest Natalia Szala. And this week's is a bit of a special one, as Nat is also my colleague and friend.
When we get together to film we'll often hash back to all of our previous dieting years, sometimes having those "holy moly, you did that too!" moments together.
And today we are sharing these all with you too!
Diving into our own battles with food, from the sneaky (and deceptive!) comfort of solo binge-eating sessions. To the quiet struggles so often hidden behind social media's "flawless" bodies.
We're peeling back the layers to let you know you'e not alone.
Nat and I dig into the whole external validation thing... Where what's oh-so often praised as 'discipline' can actually be reinforcing harmful habits.
And we shed light on the necessity of confronting the roots of disordered eating. So you can live a life without obsessing over food!
