Yes, Elizabeth Gilbert Plotted To Murder The Love Of Her Life10 Sep 202500:59:18

There’s one thing you definitely know about Elizabeth Gilbert.

She wrote Eat Pray Love - a book that became a global phenomenon, a movie, and a blueprint for millions of women seeking transformation. It made Liz one of the most famous writers in the world.

But behind that fame was a deeper story - one Liz never told. Until now.

In her new memoir, All the Way to the River, Elizabeth Gilbert tells the truth about the love of her life, her best friend-turned-partner, the late Rayya Elias. It’s a story that’s fierce, complicated, and far from the romantic ideal many people projected onto them. It’s also about Liz’s own descent into addiction; not to drugs or alcohol, but to sex and love.

“I am a sex and love addict,” she writes. “I have caused tremendous harm to myself and others.” In this brutally honest conversation, Liz opens up to Holly about the darkest chapters of her life; the chaos of living with a partner relapsing into addiction, the shame of her own destructive patterns, and the moment she contemplated something unthinkable.

But this is also a story about healing, truth, and grace. About the kind of honesty that can save your life. And about what happens when you stop running, and finally let yourself be seen.

This is Elizabeth Gilbert like you’ve never heard her before: Unfiltered. Grieving. Funny. Fierce.
And ready to tell the whole truth.

Rosie O’Donnell on the Day Her Friendship With Ellen Fell Apart07 Sep 202501:16:39

Rosie O’Donnell has lived almost every version of life in the spotlight. From her breakout in Hollywood alongside Tom Hanks and Madonna, to her groundbreaking daytime talk show that redefined television, Rosie was one of the most famous women in America.

But with fame came ridicule, public feuds, and moments that cut deeply. She’s been celebrated, mocked, and at times turned into the punchline of her own story. And one of the most painful moments came when Ellen DeGeneres told the world they weren’t friends.

In this conversation, Rosie is raw, funny and reflective. She speaks about growing up in the shadow of losing her mother, her shy first attempts at romance, the highs and lows of talk show success, and the very public feuds that made headlines. She shares what it was like to be blindsided by Ellen’s rejection, and why that moment stayed with her. And yes, she even talks about her recent return to our screens in And Just Like That.

Rosie O’Donnell has lived a big, messy, fascinating life — and in this episode, she tells it all.

Bethany And Simone Did Everything Together - Until a Toxic Drink Took Simone’s Life13 Jul 202501:02:14

Bethany Clarke and Simone White were best friends.

They’d known each other since they were kids. So when they set off on a long-awaited backpacking trip through Southeast Asia, it was meant to be a joyful, carefree adventure.

But just three days into their holiday, everything changed.

At their hostel in Laos, Bethany and Simone attended happy hour drinks by the pool. What they didn’t know was that the drinks had been contaminated with methanol, a toxic and often fatal chemical sometimes found in unregulated alcohol.

Within 24 hours, both women were seriously unwell and found themselves in hospital. Simone didn’t survive. Bethany did.

This is the story of what happened next - the decisions no one should have to make in a foreign hospital, the grief of losing your best friend, and the unbearable weight of being the one left behind.

You can follow Bethany Clarke’s advocacy account and sign her petition here:

What Life Is Like After You Decide Not To Have Kids23 Jun 202400:49:59

Subscribe to Mamamia

If you're a girl or a woman who doesn't think she wants to have kids - where are your role models for what your life could look like?

Portrayals of happy mums are everywhere, but rarely do we see women who choose not to have children shown in a positive light.

Ten years ago, journalist and editor Farrah Storr decided to be a non-parent. In the years since that decision, she has learned so much about the many ways a woman can live a rich, connected and fulfilling life without having children. And lucky for us, she’s turned her observations into a list of aha moments and beautiful surprises that we can all learn from, whether we are parents or non-parents, and she shares them with Mia Freedman in this episode of No Filter.

In Australia, thousands of children find themselves in foster care for various reasons: neglect, abuse, trauma or simply their biological parents can't afford to raise them.

Remington Meyer talks to Mia Freedman in this No Filter episode about the deeply emotional journey of bringing kids into their lives and what it's like shifting your world from just a quiet couple to a vibrant house of five.
And he answers the question: how do you open your heart knowing you might have to say goodbye?

Patric Gagne Is A Sociopath19 May 202400:50:54

You can hear the second half of Mia's conversation with Patric here.

Subscribe to Mamamia

Patric Gagne is not what most people picture when they hear the word ‘sociopath’. For example, she’s married and has two children. She’s a functioning member of society. She has friends.

Sociopaths tend to lie, break laws, act impulsively and they have little regard for their own safety because they simply don’t have fear or guilt. All these things are true for Patric.

In this conversation Patric talks to Mia Freedman about the emotions she doesn't feel, the signs that popped up when she was a child and what it's like being friends with a sociopath.

It’s believed just under 5% of the population are sociopaths, that’s one in 25 people. That’s why Patric wrote her memoir Sociopaths, to share what it’s really like.

Deborah Frances-White Isn't Afraid To Take On The Manosphere06 Jul 202501:01:15

Deborah Frances-White is the woman behind The Guilty Feminist, the podcast that’s sparked global conversations about modern feminism, contradiction, and calling ourselves in.

She’s a comedian, an author, a screenwriter, and a performer. But underneath all of that is someone who knows what it means to live in silence.

Adopted at birth and raised in a strict religious community, Deborah grew up in a world shaped by rules, obedience, and fear. She was taught to conform. To behave. To stay quiet. And she did, for a while.

In this episode of No Filter, Deborah shares the story of walking away from everything she was raised to believe, and how she found her voice in the aftermath. We talk about her new book, Six Conversations We’re Scared to Have, and why she's choosing to say the things most of us are too afraid to.

She speaks about gender non-conformity, shame, free speech, cancel culture, and the emotional impact of being publicly shunned. We also talk about comedy, and how it became the way she processes pain, connection and truth.

This is a conversation about identity, courage, and what happens when you stop being the person everyone expected you to be.

Marian Keyes, one of the most successful authors in the world, has forgotten how to read three times.
Once when she fell into a pit of depression that lasted four years and nearly cost her her marriage and her life. Once at the start of Covid. And last year, after her father died.

Marian joins Mia Freedman to reveal how she got through it, as well as how she let go of bitterness and grief that came with not being able to have children with her husband.

And despite thinking alcohol was the love of her life she’s managed to stay sober for 30 years. Why does she still call herself an alcoholic?

Yes, back in 2018 she had an unfortunate incident at Kylie Jenner’s 21st that was a low point in her life. It was made far worse by the fact it was captured by paparazzi whose photos went viral.

Only Fans became wildly popular during the pandemic, with thousands of Australians creating accounts in the hope of converting home made content - usually sexually explicit photos and videos - into cash.

The Marvel Star Who Survived Opus Dei as a Gay Teen29 Jun 202501:10:07

Before Australian actor, Tim Pocock, was cast as young Cyclops in X-Men Origins: Wolverine, he was a teenager growing up in a strict Catholic home - navigating a world where being gay wasn’t just discouraged, it was treated as something to be fixed.

In this raw and powerful conversation, Tim opens up about his time at Redfield College in Sydney - a school linked to Opus Dei. He speaks candidly about surviving conversion therapy, and the years he spent battling internalised homophobia.

Tim also shares what it was like to grow up silenced, how that trauma shaped his relationship with his body, his family and his faith, and what it took to finally unlearn it all - and live as himself.

This is a story of survival, truth, and reclaiming identity.

Not Just Another Ghost Story With Tristan Redman21 Jan 202400:56:53

Subscribe to Mamamia

This isn’t just another ghost story. This one has far too many creepy and strange coincidences.

Journalist Tristan Redman had unexplained things happen in his childhood bedroom. And he wasn’t the only one. There was another family, who lived in the same house, who had similar stories. The house really did seem… well… haunted. Then things got even weirder.

Tristan discovered his wife’s great grandmother was murdered in the house next door.
Could that have anything to do with the ghost of Tristan’s childhood? The more Tristan dug the more questions he had, not just about the paranormal, but about the murder itself.

In this No Filter, Tristan talks about an extremely complicated murder plot, how he went to see psychic mediums and why he chose to keep investigating this mystery (and create a hit podcast in the process) despite it causing enormous friction within his wife’s family.

It has been SO HARD to focus lately. So hard to hold our attention for longer than a goldfish can. Is it COVID? Is it technology? And….is it our fault?

If you ask Mia's guest today, Johann Hari, author of the best-selling book Stolen Focus - he’ll tell you it’s not. Because we haven’t lost our focus… it’s not like something we misplaced. Our focus has deliberately been stolen from us.

Celeste Barber Got Famous For Being Real. Then It Got Complicated22 Jun 202501:10:12
