How Corona Pandemic can be an accelerator to the digital transformation in the Nonprofit Sector - Findings from Salesforce’s Nonprofit Report

This is a testing time for nonprofits: Within the COVID Pandemic, demand for nonprofits' excellence in programs and services is rising. Meeting the increasing demand leaves many nonprofits fighting for resources and struggling to connect with people. With social distancing, in-person events canceled, and social channels to reach out, nonprofits’ digital capabilities are becoming increasingly important to attract and retain donors.

End of February this year, at the beginning of the Corona outbreak, Salesforce Cloud and digital Marketing automation leader, has been presenting its second edition of the Nonprofit Trends Report. According to the report, most nonprofits find themselves in a backlog of adapting and embracing technology. Two-thirds of respondents said that the technology they use at home is more productive than what they use at their nonprofit. Three quarters said to have a CRM system in place, but only half of it use it to engage through social and digital channels.

In an increasingly digital world, measurement and testing are the basis of marketing success. To reach the highest potential impact, nonprofits have to set and track timely data of their marketing goals. However, less than one-third of surveyed organizations measured email deliverability, social influence, or marketing conversion at all.

Even though times are tough, the current situation is presenting an opportunity to engage with inspired individuals, Salesforce concludes in the Trends Report. More than ever, nonprofits have an opportunity to engage hearts and minds, inspire people to take action, measure their impact, and manage their entire mission. As expectations change, so must the social sector’s approach to serving people and achieve their mission.

The COVID-19 pandemic leads to new alliances between the for-profit and non-profit sectors: To meet the needs of growing food insecurity in the U.S., Lyft and Mastercard announced to deliver one million healthy meals. Especially targeted are low-income families and seniors in communities of color.

National Nonprofit Day recognizes the goals and positive impacts nonprofits have on communities and the world.

A comment in the Massachusetts-based “Sun” highlighted how the COVID pandemic is severely hurting the nonprofit sector across North America.

The article quotes a recent analysis by the Candid Foundation estimates that between 11% and 38% of nonprofits across the US will fail in the next 3 years.

Violence against humanitarian workers has never been higher

2019 attacks against aid workers surpassed all previous years, the United Nations declared. According to the aid worker database, a total of 483 of aid workers were victims of violent attacks, 125 among them lost their lives. Nongovernmental organizations are leading relief efforts in Lebanon

As authorities are overwhelmed, volunteers and nonprofit organizations are helping to clean up the city and distribute aid to survivors. Humanitarian organizations of all sorts are gearing up with their fundraising as well.

According to Google Trends, worldwide keyword searches like «donations to Lebanon» and «aid for Lebanon» have been risen 10 to 20 fold in the days following the explosion. Among the trending Google searches is the nonprofit «ImpactLebanon» that was endorsed by George und Amal Clooney.

Small initiatives such as ImpactLebanon can have a similar impact in fundraising if they are positioned well in the digital universe. This podcast explores the reasons.

More NGOs face cuts and closures as the volatile Covid-19 crisis continues.

Just over half of the NGOs (53%) say they are facing lower income. Some 79% of have been forced to reduce their activities due to the pandemic. Around 5% said the virus posed a danger for the future of their organization, and 47% said the threat was «substantial».

An NGO survey carried out among 116 international development organizations in the United Kingdom painted an even more pessimistic picture than that of Geneva. In all, 70% of the British NGOs expected some financial difficulty in the coming months and 43% believed they would not survive in the next six months if they didn’t receive additional funds.

Dozens of NGOs hit by hack on Blackbaud US fundraising database

Blackbaud hack
International aid groups – and their private donors were victim of a hacking attack at the US-based cloud service provider for nonprofits Blackbaud. Names, addresses, and records of individual donations were stolen. The service provider paid an undisclosed ransom to return the data and delete any copies.

A popular charity on Instagram announced to donate $1 million to help children impacted by coronavirus and civil war in Yemen. According to an article of the NY Post and the organization’s social media, Sykes will chip in $500,000 from his June and July stock trading profits, with the rest of the total made up of contributions from his social media followers and sales of the group’s merchandise.

The Corona pandemic and world recession are straining the budgets of nonprofits around the world. The explosion in the need for food, shelter, rental assistance, and other charity quickly outstripped many nonprofit’s available resources.

👋Clubhouse 🎧 How useful is the app for nonprofits and fundraising?

👋Clubhouse, is a new audio-based social network app. The app has increased its user base by 5-to 6 times, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic, where it offered a new possibility to communicate during the lockdown. The trend of social audio is likely to stay as tech competitors are working on their rivaling apps.

What is so special about the Clubhouse? What are its benefits?

In sum, Clubhouse is an authentic way to interact with people and brands: The human voice is mankind’s oldest and fastest medium. Hearing people’s real voices touches us and can help build new connections faster and in a deeper way. Bloggers like Neil Patel highlight the absence of “Screen Fatigue” as an essential feature setting of Clubhouse.
