| Mark 2 & 3 | 16 Sep 2024 | 00:29:00 | |
This morning, Sarah continues into chapters 2 and 3 of Mark. 2. Read Mark 2:23-3:6. What stood out to you? 3. How do you feel about rules? Are you someone who appreciates them? Struggles with having concrete rules? Fall in between? 4. Why do you think the Pharisees leaned into religious rules so much? 5. What are some societal rules you’ve run into that work for you but not others? 6. What are some rules/laws that lead to loving our neighbour? 7. Why do you think Mark put these stories together? What was he pulling out? 8. Why do you think Jesus got so frustrated here? 9. Read Galatians 5:13-18. What does it look like to use our freedom to love our neighbour? 10. Why is it hard to give up our freedom or being “right” to love others as we love ourselves? This week, try to pay attention to “rules” in your life that you may hold that may not love others well, especially ones that have no significant impact on you. (eg, other people picking grain to eat on the Sabbath, not letting someone in front of you in line who has mobility issues because you got there first, your neighbour’s grass lines looking funny and you thinking unkind things about them because of it). Bring it to Jesus and ask Him to show you how to love in that moment more like Him. Be in touch. Send us a text here. Instagram: @newmarketbic
| Council Update: Journey of Hope | 15 Sep 2024 | 00:19:27 | |
This morning, Dennis Stam, co-chair of our Council, presented an update regarding our future as a church community. In this update, Dennis addressed where we've come from and discusses where we (could be) going. The key word here, beautifully, is "hope". Be in touch. Send us a text here. | Mark 1 | 08 Sep 2024 | 00:42:59
As we open a new season as a church community, we will be spending this fall working through the Gospel of Mark. Today, we dive into Mark 1. 2. If you have time, read all of Mark 1 together. If not, check out Mark 1:9-13, 16-20 and 40-45. What stood out? What do you have questions about? 3. Sarah started with the background of Mark - who wrote it and how it fits. Was there anything in there that was a “new learn”? Anything that gave helpful insight? 4. Mark 1 started at the beginning of Jesus’ ministry and was pretty action packed, but communicates a lot about who Jesus is and the way He lived. He started with His identity as beloved Son, He led in and through community, He gave out of His overflow and He prioritized people. Reflecting on your own life, do you reflect those pieces of Jesus? Is there one you struggle with? Is there one or two that feel easier for you? 5. Why do you think Peter, Andrew, James and John left and followed Jesus? 6. In the story of the leper, put yourself on the sidelines. How do you think you would have reacted? How do you think watching that would have impacted you? Take time to pray together. This week, if Jesus brings to mind someone ask Jesus to show you what He loves about them as His kid. If you’re feeling extra brave, share that with them. Be in touch. Send us a text here.
