Lucas Woodland (Holding Absence)13 Aug 202300:35:58
Holding Absence is back!
Graham Stanush (Return to Dust)10 Aug 202300:40:06
Return to Dust has always felt like a hidden gem, a band that could have fallen straight from the 90s, but stands proudly among the musical landscape of today. This is perhaps a gesture towards the timelessness of grunge’s existential yet relatable message, which spoke to and landed them 30+ recordings with decorated producer and mixer Jim Kaufman. Despite this trajectory, the band had fallen into one of the myriad “new band” curses, which is meticulously and quietly planning out their debut release. Thankfully, the band committed to their craft long before showing their faces, as singers Graham Stanush (bass) and Matty Joseph (guitar) formed an eternal bond growing up in the cement capital of Texas. The singers carried this passion to the west coast, where they met their then-16-year-old guitarist Sebastian Gonzale. Now assimilated, Return to Dust has already made its mark, touring up and down the west coast, playing Vegas, Phoenix, and every slummy bar in San Gabriel Valley, and personally gaining a stamp of approval from Matt Pinfield on KLOS the band is a ticking time bomb to hundreds of eager fans.

Kitty A. Austen, Jon Tufnell & Andy Head (Saint Agnes)22 Jul 202301:01:03
If there’s a single word to define Saint Agnes, it’s committed. Two words? Fully committed. Hailing from the UK, this four-strong outfit is all about honest lyrics, intense vocal performances (from Kitty A. Austen), plus rage-fuelled music intended to give a voice to those closer to the fringe than the centre. Created in the months following the unexpected and untimely death of Kitty’s mother, Bloodsuckers explores a number of themes, including mental illness, pent-up rage, undying love and, of course, grief; from the trash-metal howl into the night that is ‘Bloodsuckers’ right through to broken ballad, ‘This Is Not The End’, a poignant reflection of Kitty’s still-raw emotions, this is a call to outsiders everywhere…

Johann Saul (Your Future Is Metal)29 Jun 202300:57:03
Following the world´s bleakest hour, a fog lifted and a dream emerged from the thick mist; a vision of the greatest heavy metal band post covid. Johann Saul (vocals and guitar) enlisted the help of longtime friend Salaryman Ben (drums), both ex-members of Weathered Hands and Real Authority, by manifesting in his nightmares Freddy Kruger style. Reluctant yet convinced, Ben agreed to sit behind the kit for fear of his own demise. The first offering from your new favourite heavy metal militia, ´DO YOU WANT TO DANCE (WITH A WANTED MAN)?´, is written as a serial killer´s response to hybristophilia - an attraction to those who commit crime and murder. The band´s 5-track self-titled debut EP, out 30th June, should be considered a manifesto, taking its form in pummelling guitar riffs, powerful mid-tempo grooves and maniacal lyricism that paints devilishly macabre, yet tongue-in-cheek imagery. Uncompromising in the pursuit of melody and technical ability - frenetic guitar solos and catchy vocal hooks can be found on every track. No heavy music fan is left alienated as the band effortlessly moves through influences such as Judas Priest, Def Leppard, Type O Negative, Faith No More, Ozzy Osbourne, Alice In Chains, Cancer Bats, and Turnstile. A listening experience that hits you like an axe to the brain.

2000 Trees Festival Preview22 Jun 202300:21:05

2000trees Festival is an independent music festival held from Wednesday to Sunday on the second week of July at Upcote Farm, Withington, near Cheltenham in Gloucestershire. Dubbed by both Kerrang! Magazine and Total Guitar as Britain's coolest festival, 2000Trees is a raucous, rough-edged and joyous three-day extravaganza that any fan of rock, punk and anti-mainstream society would be foolish to miss out on!

Lewis MacRae & Matthew Dix (Rituals)19 Jun 202300:58:17
Kerrang! Radio’s THE DEAL competition, RITUALS, release their blistering new single ‘Living Blind", out now on Marshall Records. Recorded and The Marshall Studio, the new track sees RITUALS reach new levels of brutality in perfect juxtaposition to their heartfelt, soaring, and melodic atmosphere.
Eamon Ewins (Gallus)15 Jun 202300:35:58
Scottish Alternative Music Awards’ best rock/alternative winners, GALLUS announce their debut album ‘We Don’t Like the People We’ve Become’, set for release 9th June 2023 on Marshall Records. Teeming with nervous energy, its overcaffeinated undertow will drag listeners on a journey of self-loathing, self-medication, and self-love. A joyful downward spiral of manic neuroticism expertly orchestrated by the working-class Scottish indie-punks.

Jacob & Joe Parkinson (Tortured Demon)02 Jun 202300:30:24
Few bands can claim to have played a festival set so hard that the stage broke. Fewer still can claim to have done so when still barely teens. Then again, Manchester-based thrashcore band Tortured Demon is already onto something special. Aged between 17-22, the group have already opened for Evile and Xentrix in 2022, and, at Bloodstock 2021, such as their performance, the Jagermeister Stage fell down around them. Drawing the largest crowd ever seen on that stage, Tortured Demon has since been invited back to perform at Bloodstock 2023, where surely they wouldn’t be able to repeat the feat. Releasing their debut in 2021, recorded when all band members were still at school, Tortured Demon has moved up a gear with their new record, Rise Of The Lifeless. ROTL will be self-released by the band worldwide, except for Japan, where they’ve already inked a deal with Spiritual Beast/Universal Music Japan. Tortured Demon’s debut – In Desperation’s Grip – was DiskUnion (Tokyo’s leading record store)’s best-selling international metal record on release week. Again, no mean feat for a band so young. Suffice to say, the quartet have been hammering their way through the UK Metal Scene. Their line-up consists of brothers Jacob (Vocals and Guitar, 17) and Joe Parkinson (Drums, 19), joined by Billy Houigan (Lead Guitar, 19) and Sean Xavier (Bass and Backing Vocals, 23) completing the ground-shaking quartet. Combining Thrash riffs and Hardcore breakdowns with technical drums, all whilst maintaining a strong focus on quality songwriting, Tortured Demon brings a fresh yet classic sound to the UK scene. Over the last 6 months Tortured Demon has been writing and recording their second album Rise Of The Lifeless with producer David Radahd-Jones, whilst playing select shows. Tortured Demon have built a loyal life following nationwide thanks to their high-octane live show, and are set to embark on their first headline UK tour - The ‘Tour Of The Lifeless’ - in October 2023 to promote the new album.  FFO: Children of Bodom, Trivium, Testament
Alice Guala & Blake Cornwall (Lake Malice)31 May 202300:43:46
Urban Gustafsson (Vomitory)30 May 202300:13:17
In any serious conversation about death metal, the name Vomitory has to come up. Following their inception in 1989, between 1996 and 2011 they dropped eight of the most blistering albums the genre has spewed up, the quartet parting ways in 2013. However, the band’s retirement turned out to be short-lived, returning to stages in 2019 to celebrate the band's 30th anniversary, and now they drop their first new full-length in twelve years, the monstrous All Heads Are Gonna Roll. Boasting the classic Vomitory sound with a few new twists and turns, it is everything their faithful could have hoped for, the band has taken their time before committing to it rather than rushing in. "We weren’t feeling any pressure, it was rather about making a decision whether we should continue as a band, i.e. release new material, or simply put the band back in the grave again," explains drummer Tobias Gustafsson. "We wrote a few songs first just for the fun of it, to see if we still ‘had it’ before we made the final decision to continue and make a new full-length album."

Luke James (Dog Tired)27 May 202300:44:51
For more than twenty years Edinburgh’s Dog Tired has been honing its craft, sharpening the cutting edges of its riffs and fine-tuning its engine of destruction. In a perverse rejection of accepted patterns they have only become heavier with every release, their creative fires burning hotter and higher. And all the touring across the UK and Europe, all the festival appearances and four previous albums, have all led to this – to The Red Verse.

Jason Ker & Peter Willmott (Oceanlord)25 May 202300:42:41
Behold! Hark! From the dark depths of the southern oceans, Australian doom trio OCEANLORD haveconjured an eldritch monster of an album with their tentacled debut "Kingdom Cold".Frying guitars with an extra helping of thick fuzz and a crusty top deliver a tasty doom sound. Songs thatrange from very slow via slow to mid-tempo with occasional outbursts of energy also stand firmly on therock-solid ground of this classic metal genre. OCEANLORD display traces of the American, British andSwedish schools of thought with the clean vocals slightly tilting towards the latter.Yet below the surface of all the time-honoured elements traditionally associated with doom, there is anextra layer of darkness lurking in these tracks. A foreboding sense of dread, madness, and unspeakablehorrors is creeping in to replace the well-worn theme of melancholia usually accompanying the style. Thissets OCEANLORD clearly apart from most of their peers. This is no accident, as the Australians are veryopenly inspired by the horror genre and the writings of New England author Howard Phillips Lovecraft inparticular.
