| Parenting Teens with Presence, Tough Love, and Vulnerability with Randi Crawford | 30 Oct 2025 | 00:54:43 | |
Parenting teens isn’t about perfection—it’s about presence, honesty, and learning to let go.
In this conversation, Beth welcomes Randi Crawford, a straight-talking parenting coach who brings humor, vulnerability, and decades of life experience to the table. From co-founding a women’s health company with her father to becoming an empty-nester, Randi shares her journey of reinvention and what it taught her about resilience, grit, and independence.
Together, they dive into:
Why letting kids sit in discomfort is a gift (not punishment)
How to practice “tough love” without the toughness
The importance of listening without trying to fix
Modeling imperfection and apologizing as parents
Why communication is the #1 tool for building trust with teens
This episode is both refreshing and relatable—reminding us that our kids are not an extension of us, but their own people. If you’ve ever wrestled with how much to guide, when to step back, and how to stay connected through it all, this conversation is for you.

| Am I Secure in my Relationship and Good enough for my partner? With Figs O'Sullivan, LMFT | 23 Sep 2025 | 00:52:21 | |
Figs o’Sullivan and his wife Teale are marriage therapists and relationship experts who developed the Empathi method.
They are the architects of the Empathi Method and they think of themselves as “wounded healers and fellow strugglers.” Figs takes a casual approach in his work with couples and see himself as “just another wounded person trying to make his own relationships work.”
Figs believes that “every person makes sense and every person is worthy of love”, AND if they can get beyond the narrative that one partner is right and one partner is wrong, they can find a neutral place to meet and talk and work through their issues.
He shares a bit about his approach to helping couples, and he believes that “although people are complicated, therapy shouldn't be. “ Figs views himself as a fellow traveler in life and a fellow struggler. He likes to remind couples that many of their conflicts and arguments are just evidence that they care so much about this relationship.
O'Sullivan's approach encourages individuals to examine their own emotional responses and vulnerabilities, becoming more self-aware to attract and maintain a healthier relationship dynamic.
He shares the 3 pillars of relationships that he focuses on in couples work:
1 Attachment theory
2 Systems Theory
3 Transformation/Experiences

| Do Soulmates Exist? Or do they have to be “trained”? With Kyle Horton | 18 Mar 2022 | 00:37:53 | |
This is part two of a lively discussion between Kyle Horton and Beth on the topic of love and marriage. They focus on the age old question, “Do soulmates exist?” Its possible there’s no pre-existing soulmate out there, but the person you’re with could develop into your soulmate if they make it a priority to know you and understand you and care about your needs (love languages, etc. ) Through that you can build a common culture and influence each other and develop a world of your own, which often involves initial disappointments and recalibration of expectations (I.e., lowering the bar). Maybe a soulmate is someone who loves you enough to study who you are, so that they know and value who you are and what you need. This requires a lot of respect and hard work. Beth and Kyle share stories about their own respective marriages to illustrate their ups and downs. And of course, Beth’s husband Remo pops in to make a few colorful comments near the end.

| What the Heck is Marriage for? …With Kyle Horton. | 14 Mar 2022 | 00:38:46 | |
This is (we hope) an entertaining and thought provoking discussion about the huge topic of marriage and partnership. Marriage requires so much work and is so challenging. So Why do so many people choose to entertain it? What are differing expectations and hope about it it? How do their expectations impact the experience or the outcome? Beth and Kyle laugh as they discuss questions such as… Is love enough? Would most people put more thought into choosing a roommate than a life partner? When do you need to leave a marriage? When are you expecting too much? What package deal do you want out of life? Endless passion or a long history? Or of course most of us want both, but is that realistic… we hope you enjoy this discussion as much as we did

This is a casual discussion between Beth Capecchi, Ph.D. and Erin Rayburn, LPC, LMFT about what therapy (or counseling) is and how it might be perceived and utilized. Is therapy for crazy people or is it a luxury for privileged people? These stereotypes and misconceptions are explored, along with the understandable anxiety and uncertainty that come along with beginning counseling. How does it help? What is it like? How do you find a therapist? Beth shares two of her favorite metaphors for therapy, one of which is comparing to massage and varying ways that it can also be used.

| Relationships: Breaking Free from Perfectionistic Delusions with Jordanne Sculler, LMHC | 13 Mar 2025 | 00:50:56 | |
Today Dr. Beth interviews Jordanne Sculler, a therapist who specializes in relationships, approaching her clients with a “ tough yet compassionate style”. She challenges her clients to look in the mirror at themselves rather than pointing their finger at others in an effort to “bring the work back to them.” She also challenges the delusion that relationships can be perfect. For her, the heart of effective therapy requires two components: building a strong bond and challenging clients with pushback. Jordanne says that her hope/goal for her clients (and all people) is 1) to be completely ourselves, 2) to be loved for exactly who we are, and 3) to be healed through this process. | Understanding Addiction with Compassion | 26 Aug 2021 | 01:16:48 | |
In this episode, Beth and yoga instructor Lauren Aune take a compassionate look at the subject of addiction and substance use disorders. Lauren shares her own story of addiction and recovery and how she uses her experience to help others. She believes that addiction is a coping mechanism developed in response to pain and trauma and urges addicts and the ones that love them to use a lens of compassion when addressing the root cause, focusing less on what is “wrong” with the person with an addiction and more on what happened to that person.
Individuals suffering from addiction almost invariably feel deep amounts of shame which becomes a vicious circle of secrets, self-sabotage, isolation, and additional feelings of shame and loneliness as a result. There are many reasons people develop substance abuse disorders to cope, including loneliness, trauma, depression, social anxiety, relationship problems, and a lack of purpose or meaning in their lives. Addiction may serve as a temporary relief, but over time, addiction just compounds these problems rather than resolving them.
There is hope for healing! When addicts learn to develop self-love and work through the pain and suffering of their lives in a healthy manner, their need for unhealthy coping mechanism starts to lessen. Lauren believes this is done in a myriad of ways, but finding community and connection is KEY to healing the shame and isolation that comes from addiction. When we share our stories of vulnerability and they are met with love and empathy, that is THE prescription to for connection and healing!
