| MNL – Derek Interviews Ayd Instone- The Chips Are Down | 01 Mar 2026 | ||
🎙️ Monday Night Live — AI, Creativity & The Future with Ayd Instone This week on Monday Night Live, host Derek Arden welcomed long-time friend, educator, and creative thinker Ayd Instone for a fascinating and refreshingly honest conversation about artificial intelligence — what it really is, how it works, and why we don’t need to panic (yet!). Right from the start, Ayd set the tone by explaining that AI hasn’t suddenly appeared out of nowhere. In fact, many of us have been using versions of it for years without even realising — from sat-nav routes and streaming recommendations to fraud detection systems. The difference today is speed, power, and the massive amount of data available, which has pushed AI into the spotlight. 🧠 Making AI SimpleRather than getting lost in technical jargon, Ayd broke AI down into easy ideas: machines take in information, make decisions, predict outcomes, and learn from patterns. It’s not magic — it’s clever probability. That insight helped viewers see AI as a tool rather than some mysterious force taking over the world. He also shared a brilliant look back at early computers, explaining how tiny chips and faster processing have made modern AI possible. From old-school machines with tiny memory to today’s incredibly powerful processors, technology has grown at an astonishing rate — and that growth is what allows AI to do things that once felt impossible. 🚀 AI Beyond ChatbotsOne of the key messages from the evening was that AI is far bigger than writing emails or generating images. Ayd highlighted practical uses that are already helping society, including medical research, traffic management, agriculture, and energy efficiency. These examples showed how AI can support real progress when used thoughtfully. ⚖️ The Challenges We Should Talk AboutOf course, Monday Night Live never shies away from the tough questions. Ayd spoke openly about risks such as bias in data, automated decision-making, and how AI could change the job market — especially entry-level roles. Rather than fear-mongering, the discussion focused on awareness and responsibility. His perspective was balanced: technology has always changed the way we work, from the printing press to electricity, and AI is simply the latest chapter. The real challenge isn’t machines becoming human — it’s humans remembering to stay human. 🎵 Creativity Still MattersA lovely highlight came when Ayd shared how he uses AI in his own music projects — restoring old recordings, improving artwork, and helping with production ideas. Instead of replacing creativity, AI acted as a helpful assistant, speeding up tasks while leaving the artistic decisions firmly in human hands. ✨ The Big TakeawayAs the session wrapped up, Ayd offered a simple but powerful message: use AI as a teammate, not a replacement. Let it handle drafts, research, or repetitive tasks — but keep your own voice, judgement, and personality at the centre of everything you do. Another inspiring Monday Night Live packed with insight, humour, and practical ideas — proof that when technology meets human curiosity, the conversation is always worth joining. Links
| MNL – Derek Interviews Andy Halliday | 01 Mar 2026 | ||
🚨 From Beat Bobby to Anti-Terror Frontline — Real Stories from the Edge 🎙️ Monday Night Live with Derek Arden Special Guest Andy Halliday Hello everybody — welcome to Monday Night Live, the live and uncut podcast hosted by Derek Arden, featuring fascinating guests from around the world. This week’s episode is powerful, emotional, and packed with extraordinary real-life stories as Derek sits down with Andy Halliday — former police firearms officer, anti-terror specialist, international hockey coach, Olympian, and charity fundraiser. With more than three decades in policing and nearly 3000 firearms operations, Andy brings a unique perspective on leadership, decision-making, teamwork, and resilience under pressure. 👮 A Sliding Doors Moment That Changed Everything From Milk Float Driver to Metropolitan Police Cadet Andy shares how a simple radio advert heard while driving a milk float sparked a life-changing decision — joining the Metropolitan Police at just 19 years old. What followed was a career he describes as a “painful privilege,” filled with challenge, learning, and purpose. Thrown onto the streets of Tottenham early in his career, Andy reflects on old-school beat policing — learning fast, making mistakes, and discovering that communication and conflict resolution were often more powerful than force. And yes… the iconic police helmet made a nostalgic appearance too — proof that sometimes history really does have a great sense of humour. ⚡ Split-Second Decisions — Trusting Instinct Under PressureThe Malcolm Gladwell “Blink” Moment One of the most gripping parts of the conversation explores how experience shapes instinct. Andy recounts a high-pressure firearms pursuit where a suspect suddenly reached into his jacket — a moment where a life-changing decision had to be made in seconds. Instead of firing, Andy trusted his instincts — built on decades of policing experience — and made the right call. The discussion dives into concepts like “honestly held belief,” thin-slicing decision making, and the importance of rehearsal, training, and teamwork when every second counts. It’s a powerful reminder that leadership isn’t just about knowledge — it’s about judgement. 🧠 Lessons from the Anti-Terror Frontline Leadership, Responsibility and Human Impact Andy speaks openly about the emotional and professional realities of anti-terror operations, including the intense atmosphere following major events in London. Without sensationalism, he shares insights into preparation, accountability, and the psychological pressure officers carry when protecting the public. The conversation explores the importance of debriefing, mental resilience, and supporting colleagues after traumatic incidents — showing that behind every uniform is a human being managing enormous responsibility. Derek and Andy also reflect on the value of experience — how years of training and teamwork help officers make calm decisions in chaotic environments. 🏑 Olympian Spirit — Sport, Discipline and Giving Back From England Hockey to Charity Challenges Away from policing, Andy’s sporting journey is just as inspiring. A distinguished international hockey player and coach, he represented England and attended multiple Olympic Games — bringing the same focus, discipline, and teamwork from the sports field into his professional life. And if that wasn’t enough, he’s also raised significant funds for charity — including an extraordinary challenge dribbling a hockey ball from Cardiff to London! Now that’s dedication… and probably a few very tired legs along the way. 💡 Key Takeaways from This Week’s Monday Night Live Sport and service share the same mindset: resilience, discipline, and growth Leadership is built through experience — not just theory Communication and conflict resolution are powerful tools Instinct comes from preparation and practice Team support and debriefing are essential after high-pressure events Links
| MNL – Derek Interviews Esther Stanhope | 23 Feb 2026 | 00:26:36 | |
Hello everybody — Derek Arden here, and welcome to another lively edition of Monday Night Live, where conversations are honest, insightful, and packed with practical wisdom. This week’s episode features the brilliant Esther Stanhope — former BBC producer, award-winning author, TEDx speaker, and now the voice behind her new book Visibly Brilliant. Together, Derek and Esther explore what it really takes to step out of the shadows, build confidence, and be recognised for your true value. 🌟 From Invisible Expert to Visible LeaderMany talented professionals work tirelessly behind the scenes — technically gifted, committed, and driven — yet still feel overlooked. Esther explains why brilliance alone is no longer enough in today’s world. Visibility matters. Whether you’re a lawyer, data analyst, entrepreneur, or creative professional, learning how to share your expertise without “showing off” is the key to standing out. Esther highlights the difference between sharing and self-promotion. Sharing is generous — offering insights, stories, and lessons that help others grow. It’s about adding value, not shouting the loudest. For those battling imposter syndrome, especially in leadership environments, this shift in mindset can be transformational. 💬 Negotiation, Confidence & Knowing Your WorthDerek brings his trademark negotiation wisdom to the conversation, diving into the topic of salary discussions and career progression. They explore why many people — particularly women — hesitate to ask for more, even when they deserve it. Derek’s practical tip? Never accept the first offer. Ask gently, confidently, and give the other person the chance to say yes. Esther shares a powerful personal story about asking for a pay rise early in her career — and receiving a 50% increase simply because she asked. The lesson is clear: confidence grows through action, not perfection. 🎤 Plan-Arenas vs Wing-It WondersDrawing on her BBC producing experience, Esther describes two types of presenters — the meticulous planners and the spontaneous improvisers. Using famous political examples, she explains how preparation and authenticity must work together. Whether you’re delivering a keynote, recording a podcast, or presenting on Zoom, the real magic lies in balancing structure with genuine presence. 🧠 Body Language, Voice & PresenceThe discussion also dives into the psychology of communication — from power poses and posture to tone of voice and authenticity. Derek shares insights from decades of studying body language, while Esther offers practical broadcasting tips: own your space, show your hands naturally, and connect with your audience rather than overthinking technique. They explore how voice coaching, posture, and even clothing choices can subtly influence perception. The message isn’t to change who you are — it’s to express your strengths more clearly. 🎯 Visibility in the Digital AgeIn a world full of LinkedIn posts, TikTok clips, and online presentations, Esther encourages listeners to step forward gradually. Start small. Share ideas. Offer helpful tips. Visibility doesn’t mean becoming loud or flashy — it means allowing your expertise to be seen. Her closing advice is simple yet powerful: True to Monday Night Live style, the conversation ends with laughter and a surprise ukulele moment — reminding everyone that confidence and creativity go hand in hand. It’s a perfect reflection of the show’s spirit: insightful, practical, and refreshingly human. 🚀 Key Takeaways from This Episode✨ Visibility builds opportunity If you’re ready to step into 2026 with more presence, stronger communication, and a renewed sense of self-belief, this episode is packed with inspiration and practical tips you can use straight away. 👉 Don’t forget to like, subscribe, and share — and join Derek Arden next week on Monday Night Live for more conversations that challenge, inspire, and entertain. | MNL – Derek Interviews Simon Zutchi – Property | 06 Feb 2026
🎙️ Property, People & a Little Bit of Magic 💼 Entrepreneurship, mindset and market wisdom with Simon Zutchi“I’m Derek Arden — welcome to Monday Night Live, the live and uncut podcast about negotiation and even money.” This week’s guest was someone Derek has known (and bantered with!) for more than 20 years — the ever-energetic, endlessly insightful Simon Zutchi. From graduate trainee at Cadbury’s to founder of a multi-million-pound property education empire, Simon’s story is one of bold decisions, personal growth, and learning to back yourself when others think you’re mad 🤯 🏭 From Chocolate Factories to Financial FreedomSimon began his career on the prestigious Cadbury’s graduate scheme. Great job. Secure future. Sensible path. He quit. Why? Because he’d discovered property investing — and more importantly, he’d discovered freedom. Renting rooms to friends while building his portfolio, Simon replaced his salary and walked away from corporate life in 2001. Cue raised eyebrows from bosses, friends… probably the milkman too. But by 2003 he had fully replaced his income, and soon after launched the Property Investors Network, which grew into one of the UK’s largest property communities. 🔥 The Power of EnvironmentA turning point for Simon came after attending a Tony Robbins event. Firewalking included. More importantly, he learned that success leaves clues — and that who you surround yourself with shapes your results. That idea led him to build communities, masterminds, and training programmes that combine strategy with mindset — because knowing what to do is one thing… actually doing it is another. As Simon said: “Information is everywhere. Implementation is rare.” 💡 Why Property Still Works (Even When It Looks Scary)Derek challenged Simon on today’s tougher property market — higher interest rates, tighter regulations, nervous landlords. Simon’s take? This is exactly when opportunity appears. Quoting Warren Buffett in spirit: Be cautious when others are greedy. Be greedy when others are fearful. With many landlords exiting, professional investors who understand the rules are finding strong long-term opportunities. The key message: property is no longer a hobby — it’s a professional business that rewards education and preparation. 🤝 Property Is a People BusinessOne of the strongest themes of the evening was relationships. Simon shared real examples of buying property ethically below market value by solving sellers’ problems — relocation, timing pressure, life changes. The lesson? This applies just as much to negotiation, business, and leadership as it does to property. 🧠 Invest in the Asset That Earns You MoneySimon shared a brilliant analogy from US mastermind groups: If you owned a million-pound racehorse, you’d feed it well, give it the best care, and protect it. You are that racehorse. Your health, knowledge, network and mindset determine your earning power — so investing in yourself isn’t indulgent… it’s essential. That’s why Simon (like Derek) continues attending international events, learning from peers at organisations like the Professional Speaking Association and the National Speakers Association. Growth never stops. 🎩 Business Lessons from a Magic TrickYes, there was magic. Literal magic. Simon demonstrated how storytelling and presentation can turn a simple trick into a powerful communication tool — even teaching restaurants how to entertain guests while explaining kitchen delays 🍝✨ The deeper message? It’s not just what you say. It’s how you present it. 🚀 Key Takeaways✔ Freedom comes from action, not just information
| MNL – Derek Interviews Lieutenant General Karen Gibson – Security | 28 Jan 2026 | 00:27:52 | |
🎖️ From Battlefield Intelligence to Capitol Hill Security Welcome to Monday Night Live with Derek Arden — where global experience meets real-world wisdom 🌍✨ And this week’s guest delivered a masterclass in leadership, resilience, and perspective. Derek was honoured to welcome Lieutenant General Karen Gibson, one of the most senior leaders in U.S. national security in recent history. Karen’s career spans military intelligence operations across Alaska, Korea, Iraq, Afghanistan, East Africa, and the Middle East — before stepping into one of the most sensitive roles in American government: Sergeant at Arms of the United States Senate. 🏔️ From Rural Montana to the Front Lines of IntelligenceKaren’s journey began far from Washington power corridors. Growing up in rural Montana — where winter snow lingered into June and dinner sometimes came via her father’s hunting — she developed the toughness and self-reliance that would define her career. Originally planning to become an engineer, she joined the Army through ROTC to fund her education. What began as a practical decision turned into a lifelong calling. Her first posting? Alaska — a physically punishing environment she embraced with trademark grit. She quickly discovered she loved the Army’s relentless challenges: physical, mental, moral, and intellectual. Each success brought tougher assignments — and she thrived on it 💪 🌍 Intelligence Leadership in Global ConflictKaren rose through military intelligence to become a three-star general, leading complex intelligence operations during some of the most volatile periods of modern conflict. After 9/11, her work focused heavily on the Middle East, with deployments to Afghanistan, Iraq, and East Africa. She later directed intelligence for military operations across the broader region — a role demanding sharp judgement, calm under pressure, and the ability to lead highly skilled teams in fast-moving, high-risk environments. She spoke warmly about working alongside UK and Commonwealth forces, calling them trusted and vital partners 🤝🇬🇧 🎗️ A Personal Battle: Facing Cancer with a Soldier’s ResolveIn one of the evening’s most moving moments, Karen shared how she was diagnosed with stage three breast cancer just weeks before a long-awaited deployment. Her world stopped overnight. But in true soldier fashion, her first question to doctors was: “When can I get to Baghdad?” Though treatment delayed her plans, she ultimately returned to active deployments — including a pivotal intelligence role during the campaign against ISIS. It became one of the most fulfilling periods of her career. Her story was a powerful reminder that resilience isn’t about avoiding fear — it’s about moving forward despite it ❤️ 🏛️ Restoring Security After January 6After retiring in 2020, Karen expected a quieter life teaching and consulting. Then came January 6, 2021. Watching events unfold at the U.S. Capitol, she felt compelled to help. Within weeks, she was asked to serve as Sergeant at Arms of the Senate — responsible for security, protocol, operations, and over 1,000 staff during one of the most sensitive periods in U.S. political history. She described the role as challenging, complex… and surprisingly enjoyable. From cybersecurity and logistics to firewood procurement (a tradition dating back to 1789!) — the job blended history, leadership, and modern security in fascinating ways. 👟 Fast Walkers, World Leaders & Practical WisdomKaren also shared lighter moments — like escorting global leaders through the Capitol. Fun fact: she claims Rishi Sunak and the King of Jordan were the fastest walkers she ever had to keep up with 🚶♂️💨 Her leadership philosophy? Focus less on hierarchy and more on mission complexity and team capability. And remember — not every crisis involves life or death, even if it feels that way. ⚡ Final Advice (and Perfect Timing!)Asked for practical wisdom, Karen gave unexpected advice: “Invest in a backup generator.” Moments later, Derek revealed they’d had a power cut during rehearsal — proving her point perfectly 🔌😄 This episode delivered inspiration, perspective, and a rare behind-the-scenes look at leadership in the military and at the heart of government. Courage. Service. Humility. 🎧 Watch now and be inspired.
| Monday Night Live Interview Derek Arden with David Skinner | 28 Jan 2026 | 00:26:24 | |
🌟 Fall Down Seven Times, Get Up Eight: Lessons in Resilience, Perspective & Growth Monday Night Live with Derek Arden & Guest David Skinner 📚✨
This week’s conversation was thoughtful, moving, and quietly powerful, as Derek Arden welcomed back an old friend of the show, leadership coach and lifelong learner David Skinner. David returned not to speak about nature this time (tempting though that always is), but to explore something just as grounding: perspective, resilience, and what we can learn from seeing the world through very different eyes. At the heart of the discussion was the book Fall Down Seven Times and Get Up Eight by Naoki Higashida, a writer with severe non-verbal autism. What followed was not a clinical discussion, but a deeply human one. 📖 A World That Feels Familiar… Until It Doesn’tDavid explained that what makes Higashida’s work so striking is how recognisable his inner world feels, despite being experienced through an entirely different lens. Free-flowing speech is impossible for him, and communication is slow, deliberate, and exhausting. Yet his thoughts are rich, reflective, and emotionally sophisticated. Through painstaking effort—initially tracing letters onto a helper’s hand, later using an alphabet grid—Higashida shares his lived experience: anxiety, distraction, meltdowns, obsessions, and a fierce desire to understand himself and be understood by others. What becomes clear very quickly is this: physical or communication impairments should never be confused with cognitive ability. 🧠 First Impressions Are (Often) WrongOne of the key themes David highlighted was how easily we impose our own worldview onto others. When behaviour doesn’t match our expectations, we often jump to the wrong conclusions. A powerful example involved Higashida wanting to thank a helper—but ending up saying, “Have a nice day.” On the surface, it seems inappropriate. But when he explains the chain of associations that led him there, the logic becomes beautifully clear. The issue isn’t understanding—it’s expression. The lesson? Behaviour always makes sense from the inside. We just don’t always take the time to look. 🧩 The Jigsaw Lesson: Different Perspectives Add ValueHigashida loves jigsaws—but not in the way most of us do. He enjoys fitting the pieces together, not completing the picture. In fact, once the puzzle is finished, he turns it over to admire the way the pieces interlock underneath. To most of us, that seems odd. But as David pointed out, imagine the value of someone like that in a team—someone fascinated by how components fit together, not distracted by the big picture. Difference isn’t a weakness. It’s an asset. 💥 Failure, Growth & the Danger of ComfortThe book’s title itself became a central theme of the evening. For Higashida, success isn’t a shiny destination—it’s precarious, temporary, and built on repeated failure. Growth only happens when we step outside what feels safe. A poignant example was his determination to eat in unfamiliar restaurants, despite the anxiety it causes. Familiar places feel safer—but staying there forever would mean no growth. His message echoes a truth many of us recognise: comfort can quietly become a cage. ❤️ Acceptance Is the Starting PointPerhaps the most universal lesson was about self-acceptance. Higashida explains that until he accepted himself, he avoided being seen at all—literally hiding from the world. Acceptance didn’t remove the challenge, but it gave him the courage to face it. Whether it’s speaking up, appearing on camera, or trying something new, the same rule applies to all of us: accept where you are, then stretch gently forward. 🌱 Final Thoughts That Stay With YouTwo reflections closed the conversation beautifully: “Tomorrow might be indistinguishable from yesterday, but on the far side of tomorrow, our whole future is waiting.” And perhaps the most powerful reminder of all: People may talk and behave in peculiar ways, but that should never relegate them to a lesser branch of humanity. A fitting end to a conversation about kindness, curiosity, and growth. 🎤 Thank you, David, for a generous, thoughtful contribution—and thank you for stepping outside your comfort zone so the rest of us could grow a little too. 👍 If you’re watching on YouTube or listening via The Negotiators Podcast, please like, share, and spread the word. Growth is better when it’s shared.
| Monday Night Live with Derek Arden with Eva Fanari Estonia | 10 Dec 2025 | 00:29:32 | |
🌍 Global Perspective, Local Wisdom & the Power of Negotiation Tonight’s Monday Night Live was one of those conversations that effortlessly travelled from New Mexico to Northern Europe, from negotiation skills to geopolitics, and from real estate deals to the meaning of freedom itself. Derek Arden was delighted to welcome back Eva Fanari, joining from Albuquerque, New Mexico—about as far away as you can get and still make it to Monday Night Live on time! Eva is a communication and negotiation expert, a sought-after trainer for real estate professionals, and a regular opinion columnist writing weekly on European and global affairs. And yes… somehow, she does all that every single Thursday 😄 🧠 From Negotiation Rooms to Newsrooms ✍️Eva shared how she became a weekly columnist for an Estonian newspaper—an unexpected role for a communicator based in the American Southwest. What began as a short-term writing challenge turned into a three-year commitment to crafting 1,000–1,500 words every week.
Tonight’s Monday Night Live was one of those conversations that effortlessly travelled from New Mexico to Northern Europe, from negotiation skills to geopolitics, and from real estate deals to the meaning of freedom itself. Derek Arden was delighted to welcome back Eva Farina, joining from Albuquerque, New Mexico—about as far away as you can get and still make it to Monday Night Live on time! Eva is a communication and negotiation expert, a sought-after trainer for real estate professionals, and a regular opinion columnist writing weekly on European and global affairs. 🌐 Estonia, History & the Reality of Living Next to Russia A powerful part of the evening focused on Estonia’s history, its strategic position in Europe, and the very real tensions created by the ongoing war in Ukraine. Eva offered a deeply personal and historical insight into life in a small country that has spent centuries under occupation—from Crusaders, to Swedes, to German forces, to Soviet control. For Estonia, independence is not abstract—it is earned, defended, and never taken for granted. She also explained why defence spending, conscription, and NATO cooperation are not political talking points, but matters of survival. “Freedom is not your birthright. It’s something you defend.” A line that landed hard—and stayed. ✈️ NATO, Borders & Modern TensionsEva described frequent airspace incursions, drone crossings, and the delicate balancing act NATO must maintain—protecting borders without triggering escalation. 🏡 Real Estate, Psychology & the Art of the Deal 🔑 Everything is negotiable—if you listen properly. 💡 A Final Piece of Wisdom for 2026 🌱 👏 Thank you, Eva
| Monday Night Live with Derek Arden with Janice Litvin – Beating Burnout | 04 Dec 2025 | 00:27:23 | |
Janice Litvin is one of America’s leading experts on Workplace Wellness and Beating Burnout. Janice will show us exactly how to help others stop burnout before it starts — with simple, science-based techniques to manage stress, reset our thinking, and build stronger resilience at work and at home. She’ll give us practical tools we can use immediately, including her signature “pause–reflect–reset” method that has helped thousands of professionals stay calmer, clearer, and more in control. 🌟 Monday Night Live with Derek ArdenBeating Burnout, Managing Stress & Strengthening Human Connection in the Age of AI Welcome to another inspiring episode of Monday Night Live, hosted by Derek Arden — and tonight, all the way from Walnut Creek, California (yes, Derek almost placed it south of San Francisco!), we welcomed the brilliant, warm and wonderfully energetic Janice Litvin. Janice is one of the USA’s leading voices on stress, burnout, emotional wellbeing, and healthy workplace culture. She’s a former President of the NSA Northern California Chapter, a sought-after keynote speaker, and a true champion of helping people pull themselves out of overwhelm before they reach breaking point. Tonight, she brought her trademark blend of honesty, humour, science and practical tools — and wow, did she deliver. 🚀 🔥 Why Stress & Burnout Are SurgingJanice opened with a simple but powerful truth: With global issues, political turbulence, climate anxiety, and the constant noise of social media, emotional responses are rising everywhere. Add endless scrolling, comparison culture, and polarised online conversations — it’s no wonder people feel overloaded. She shared that organisations repeatedly tell her the same thing: “Our people are overwhelmed. They have too much to do. And we can’t find enough good help.” This insight, combined with Janice’s 20 years in recruiting, inspired her new talk: 🧩 ‘Recruit to Retain in the Age of AI: The Power of Human Connection’Her message is clear: Her Amazon interview story said it all: a brilliant young AI engineer interviewed almost exclusively by bots… until a single human appeared on Zoom — and then an automated rejection arrived shortly after. Janice believes remote work offers valuable freedom — but warns that too little connection increases stress. Even one day a week in the office helps morale, communication and belonging (though she and Derek agreed the UK’s standard of what counts as a “long commute” is… radically different to the US! 🚆😉). 💡 Harnessing Stress Instead of Being Crushed by ItJanice shared her own hilarious pre-speech panic story — mouth full of “cotton balls”, jittery stomach — but how Patricia Fripp’s coaching helped her channel nervous energy into stage presence. The formula? Stress → Awareness → Reframing → Action Ignoring stress leads to burnout. She revealed a powerful story about a CEO whose star employee suddenly quit due to complete exhaustion — a wake-up call for leaders everywhere. 👪 Helping Our Children & Younger GenerationsDerek asked how we advise our kids and grandkids — many under far more pressure than we were. Janice lit up the room explaining the natural chemicals that lift mood:
Even a smile at a stranger can trigger a burst. She explained that the prefrontal cortex handles rational thought. When someone cuts you off in traffic or ignores your kindness, we’re quick to react — unless we pause and consider a more compassionate story. Janice and Derek revisited last week’s gender-based negotiation discussion. “I’d love to take on this new project. Before we start Monday, let’s review my current workload and adjust deadlines so everything gets done well.” A calm, professional, confident boundary. Janice revealed her book “Banish Burnout” is just 99 cents on Amazon this week, and she’s offering a free stress-awareness handout with three levels of burnout clues. Her final tip for 2026: A superb session filled with insights, warmth and practical advice.

| MONDAY NIGHT LIVE with Derek Arden & Geoff Hunt Global Negotiations | 04 Dec 2025 | 00:29:13 | |
Tonight we’re joined by Geoff Hunt, Group Commercial Director at Arup — a global engineering powerhouse with 20,000 staff, 44 countries, and a turnover of £2.5 billion. Big numbers… so big I had to sit down and have a cup of tea before the show. Geoff has spent 40 years navigating the engineering world at every level — contractor, consultant, COO, and now Group Commercial Director. But what makes tonight’s conversation unmissable is his insight into high-value, high-pressure negotiation — the kind of deals where a wrong move costs millions, and the right move saves entire projects. Settle in — this is a Masterclass. 👇 🌟 Geoff’s Journey: From Construction Sites to the Top TableGeoff began as a civil engineer on construction sites before realising there was far more to explore in consultancy. Over the decades he moved from small firms to major international consultancies before joining Arup — where he’s now been for 23 years. He’s led big teams, delivered major global projects, shaped commercial strategy, and steered Arup’s operations across the UK, India, Middle East, and Africa. Negotiation. Geoff shared an extraordinary story from a $25 million claim negotiation on a Middle Eastern metro project. Two mediations. And then… the opposition’s commercial director arrives with the full “stamping, shouting, paper-throwing” approach. Geoff responded by doing the exact opposite: The louder the other side got, the quieter he became. The first mediation failed — yet the follow-up negotiation with a calmer counterpart ultimately settled the deal. A reminder that: 👉 Staying composed is more powerful than shouting. In another case, mediation was partly remote and partly in-person — a potential nightmare. Yes, really. This colleague quietly messaged Geoff what the other side were discussing. That vital insight allowed Arup to reorder negotiation topics and secure early wins before tackling the fee. Takeaway: 👉 Preparation meets opportunity… and sometimes luck joins the party. 📱 The Paddington Station Plot Twist – Negotiating on the GoOne of the night’s most memorable stories came from Paddington Station at 7:30am. A Qatar client — silent for three years — suddenly phoned wanting to settle a major fee claim. They offered 25% of the amount owed. But Geoff’s network quickly uncovered the truth: The client desperately needed a clean bill of health from auditors to unlock their next project. Armed with that insight, Geoff held firm — and secured 90% of the claim. Geoff reinforced a timeless principle: 👉 Never negotiate tough issues by email.A handshake, a coffee, and honest eye contact change everything. You learn their pressures, their motivations, their constraints — the things no email ever reveals. Negotiation is human. Build a strong, briefed, well-prepared team Watch the order of negotiation topics Look for upstream pressures on the other side Secure small wins early Don’t fear silence And above all… stay resilient Geoff’s an engineer at heart — a problem-solver — and that mindset serves him brilliantly in high-stakes negotiation. 🙏 Thank You, Geoff! A huge vote of thanks from all of us at Monday Night Live for sharing such invaluable stories and strategies. If you’re watching the replay, grab a notebook. This one’s pure gold. 🏆

| Derek Arden with Tim Durkin — The Results Model | 12 Nov 2025 | ||
Tim Durkin Returns: The Results Model, Via Negativa & The Arrival Fallacy 🚀
I’m Derek Arden, and welcome to Monday Night Live. Tonight, we’re delighted to have Tim Durkin from Granbury, Texas, one of our founding members and long-time friends of the show. Tim first joined us when Monday Night Live launched on 23rd March 2020, and he’s been part of the family ever since. Tim is an educator, a lifelong learner, and someone dedicated to sharing wisdom, insight, and practical ideas you can apply immediately. After months on the road, he told us he’d “missed the group, missed the learning, and missed all his MNL friends.” And tonight, he returned in classic Durkin form — thoughtful, humorous, and packed with gold. So let’s dive into the three big transformational ideas Tim shared… 1️⃣ The Results Model — Why You’re Getting EXACTLY the Results You Deserve 📈Tim opened with a model that he says has “saved his life… maybe twice.” Learned originally from Larry Wilson at the Pecos River Learning Center, it explains—beautifully and bluntly—why we get the results we do in life. 🧩 The Model in Brief: Every event triggers an evaluation (“What does this mean?”), which drives a response, which creates a result… which becomes the next event. “The results you should be getting are exactly the results you’re getting.” Not as punishment — but because all the conditions that create those results are currently in place. If you want different results? And Tim’s wonderful little finger-rotation exercise proved it instantly: Next, Tim introduced the elegant idea of via negativa — borrowed from Peter Drucker and inspired by Michelangelo’s “I just released David from the stone.” Instead of endlessly adding tasks, books, goals, habits, apps, and projects… Ask: Complexity is often self-created. Tim suggested a brilliant New Year tradition: Write down things you want to subtract from your life — unhealthy habits, pointless subscriptions, unhelpful commitments, even energy-draining people — and burn them in a “burning bowl” ritual. (Maybe not in the Hilton Hotel like Derek’s friend Simon Zucchi… unless you enjoy triggering fire alarms!) A killer question to evaluate anything you’re doing: Tim’s third idea dismantles a common myth: It almost never does. As Tim put it: The joy was in the months of preparation, the training, the challenge, the adventure. From Winnie the Pooh to Ralph Waldo Emerson to Cervantes… The journey is better than the destination. Tim quoted world-number-one golfer Scottie Scheffler, who says after winning a tournament he enjoys about 10 minutes of satisfaction… then wonders what’s for dinner. Because the practice is the joy. 🎯 Final Thoughts & Derek’s Wrap-UpTim closed by reminding us that:
Derek added his own reflections on energy vampires (“they impose a YES tax”), post-it burning mishaps, and his travels to Fiji and New Zealand — which, he admitted, looked suspiciously like the Surrey Hills after 24 hours of jet lag. A brilliant session packed with insight, humour, and practical wisdom.

| MNL with Derek Arden: SUMO Shut Up Move On | 28 Oct 2025 | 00:29:33 | |
🎙️ Monday Night Live with Derek Arden & Professor Paul McGee 🔥 The SUMO Philosophy — Shut Up, Move On & Live Brilliantly! Hello everybody — Derek Arden here! Paul is one of the UK’s leading motivational speakers, a performance coach, and the author of 13 bestselling books, including the 20th-anniversary edition of SUMO: A Straight-Talking Guide to Creating an Enjoyable and Brilliant Life. And yes, he’s still brilliantly straight-talking! 👏 💡 The Birth of SUMO — From Glasgow Banter to Global MovementPaul shared the wonderfully Scottish origins of SUMO. “If all else fails, tell them to SUMO — Shut Up, Move On!” That cheeky comment planted the seed that grew into a global philosophy — a toolkit for handling life’s curveballs with grit, humour, and emotional intelligence. Paul calls it his “accidental brand,” born not from strategy, but serendipity — a great reminder that sometimes, success sprouts from staying curious and keeping your compass flexible, not rigidly chasing goals. 🧭 ⚽ From the Boardroom to the Premier LeagueWe also dove into Paul’s fascinating work with Premier League football teams — including Manchester United, Manchester City, and Everton. His story about being invited into City’s inner circle was classic McGee: a mix of luck, networking, and perseverance. He’s worked with stars like Shay Given, Micah Richards, and Ben Mee, not to fix problems, but to help high performers get even better. “You don’t have to be ill to get better.” 💪 🧠 SUMO Meets Psychology — Allies, Not RivalsPaul’s insights into working alongside sports psychologists were refreshing. “Despite their success, they stayed humble, hungry, and curious — that’s real greatness.” 🙌 🌍 Life Lessons from the SUMO GuyPaul unpacked his classic themes — resilience, perspective, and personal responsibility — with plenty of wit and wisdom. He warned against wearing the “Victim T-shirt”, a metaphor for surrendering control to negativity and blame culture. His antidote? “Focus on what you can influence. Improve your sleep, connect with others, and choose optimism.” ☀️ He also reminded us that modern life is more complex than ever — from endless washing machine options to parking apps that require a PhD — and this complexity fuels stress. The solution? Simplify where you can, and don’t take yourself too seriously. 📚 SUMO for Schools — Building Resilience EarlyPaul’s passion for helping young people shine came through loud and clear. “Resilience in the classroom starts in the staff room.” 👩🏫 His book YESSS! The SUMO Secrets to Being a Positive, Confident Teenager has inspired children — and their parents — around the world. One of his favourite lessons? “It’s a detour, not a destination.” ✨ 🧩 Labels, Learning & LifePaul discussed how the rise in childhood labels (like ADHD or autism) is complex. “Let’s treat differences as superpowers — not excuses.” That kind of straight-talking empathy is what makes Paul’s message land — from classrooms to corporate stages. 🎓 From Motivator to ProfessorIn 2019, Paul was awarded the title of Visiting Professor at the University of Chester — recognition for his gift of translating academic ideas into real-world life lessons. Or as Paul puts it: “I’m just plain Paul… the SUMO guy.” 😄 🚀 Final Tip for 2026 and BeyondPaul left us with this gem: “Don’t let your routines become roots. Step out of your comfort zone. Try something new — even if it’s just a different drink at your café. You might discover something brilliant.” ☕🌱 Simple, wise, and perfectly McGee. 📞 Connect with PaulWant to bring Paul’s SUMO wisdom to your conference, business, or school?

| Jasma Patel, a remarkable woman whose journey from corporate marketing to yoga teacher and cancer survivor | 22 Oct 2025 | ||
Hello everybody – I’m Derek Arden, and welcome to another fascinating edition of Monday Night Live!
Hello everybody! I’m Derek Arden, and welcome to another inspiring episode of Monday Night Live – your weekly masterclass in life, learning, and leadership. This week’s show is something truly special. My guest is Jasma Patel, a remarkable woman whose journey from corporate marketing to yoga teacher and cancer survivor is nothing short of extraordinary. 🌱🧘♀️ 🧘♀️ From Boardrooms to Breathwork – Jasma’s StoryJasma began her career in the corporate world, working for major brands like Gallagher and Tesco. But after long hours, relentless pressure, and a life-changing comment from a security guard – “There’s got to be more to life than this” – she knew it was time for a change. Her next steps were bold: she walked away from the corporate treadmill, followed her passion for interior design, and later applied her marketing skills to support her husband’s property business. Yet life had even more profound lessons ahead. 💥 A Life-Altering Diagnosis – and an Unbreakable SpiritTen years ago, Jasma faced a devastating diagnosis: stage 4 womb cancer that had spread to her lungs, brain, and liver. Doctors told her she had just two weeks to live. But Jasma had other plans. Through unimaginable pain, she focused not on fear, but on what she would do afterwards. She turned instinctively to visualisation, music, and breathwork – powerful yogic tools she didn’t even know she was using. Despite failed chemotherapy, she took a chance on a trial immunotherapy drug – a 50/50 bet on life. And it worked. 🙏 Today, she’s not only surviving but thriving – walking, teaching, and inspiring hundreds through yoga and mindfulness. 🌬️ Your Breath Is Your SuperpowerJasma’s message on Monday Night Live is simple but profound: your breath is your superpower – it’s free, it’s portable, and it’s with you everywhere you go. She taught us how long, conscious exhales can switch the body from “fight or flight” (the sympathetic nervous system) into “rest and restore” (the parasympathetic state). With just a few mindful breaths, you can dial down stress, change your mindset, and reconnect with calm – even in the middle of chaos. 💡 “If you take nothing else from tonight,” Jasma says, “remember this: your breath can transform your life.” 🧠 Ancient Wisdom for Modern LivesJasma also shared insights from Patanjali’s Eight Limbs of Yoga – a 5,000-year-old guide to living well. Most of us think yoga is just about stretching, but it’s really a way of being:
Mastering the early steps – especially breath – lays the foundation for everything else. And as Jasma shows, it can even save your life. 🌿 A Simple Practice You Can Try NowJasma guided us through a short breathing exercise you can do anywhere:
Even a few minutes of this can calm your nervous system, sharpen your focus, and bring a sense of inner peace. 🪄 The Power of Stillness and WordsJasma also reminded us of the power of stillness and the language we use. Inspired by her 85-year-old mother’s lifelong meditation practice, she’s learned that how we react to life’s challenges can transform how we experience them. And meditation? It’s not about silence or an empty mind. It’s about finding stillness within the noise – even if that noise is just your own thoughts. 🌟 Final Thought: Breathe – It’s Free and It’s YoursAs we closed this unforgettable session, Jasma left us with a simple challenge: “Next time you’re frustrated, rushed, or overwhelmed, use your breath. It’s free, it’s within you, and it’s the most powerful tool you have.” Thank you, Jasma, for sharing your story, your wisdom, and your breath with the Monday Night Live community. 🌟 And thank you to all our viewers and listeners for joining us. 📩 Don’t forget to subscribe, like, and share – and join us every week for more inspiring conversations with fascinating guests.

| Caroline Williams – award-winning science journalist, bestselling author, lifelong learner, and explorer of cutting-edge brain science. | 15 Oct 2025 | 00:38:16 | |
Hello everybody – I’m Derek Arden, and welcome to another fascinating edition of Monday Night Live!
This week, we dived deep into the world of neuroscience, creativity, movement, and the hidden secrets of the human mind with our brilliant guest, Caroline Williams – award-winning science journalist, bestselling author, lifelong learner, and explorer of cutting-edge brain science. From swallowing vibrating pills in the name of research to rewiring her own brain with electricity, Caroline has travelled the world exploring how science can help us understand why we think, feel, and behave the way we do. Tonight’s conversation was packed with surprising insights, practical takeaways, and a few “wow” moments that will change the way you think about your brain and your body. Let’s dive into the highlights! 👇 🧠 What Is Neuroscience – And Why It MattersCaroline kicked things off by defining neuroscience as the study of how the brain and nervous system create our thoughts, feelings, behaviour, and consciousness. Our brains are powerful but imperfect – capable of compassion, creativity, and optimism, but also vulnerable to anxiety, distraction, and depression. Understanding how it all works helps us get the best out of our minds and navigate the glitches that come with being human. ⚡ Zapping the Brain for CreativityOne of the most jaw-dropping parts of the evening was Caroline’s story of undergoing brain stimulation in Kansas City. Scientists gently reduced activity in her prefrontal cortex – the brain’s goal-setting “control centre” – to boost her creative thinking. And it worked! 🧪 Before-and-after data showed a remarkable difference. By temporarily turning down the “taskmaster” part of the brain, the rest of the mind was free to wander, connect ideas, and innovate. It’s the same principle behind “flow state” – when hours disappear as we’re completely immersed in a task. 🩺 Your Gut Talks to Your Brain (Yes, Really!)Ever had a “gut feeling”? Caroline took part in an experiment to prove that’s more than a metaphor. She swallowed a pill equipped with a tiny motor that buzzed inside her stomach, helping researchers map how gut signals are processed by the brain. The results? The brain has dedicated networks that respond to internal sensations – and understanding this “gut-brain axis” could transform treatments for eating disorders, IBS, pain, and more. These same devices are already FDA-approved to treat constipation. Talk about science in action! 🚶♂️ Move More, Think BetterCaroline’s first book, Move, explores how movement supercharges the brain. Just 120 steps a minute – a brisk walk or dance pace – boosts blood flow to the brain by up to 20%, sharpening focus and fuelling creativity. It’s no coincidence most pop songs sit around 120 beats per minute – our brains love that rhythm. Even short “movement snacks” throughout the day, like squatting while unloading the dishwasher or dancing in the kitchen, counteract the harmful effects of sitting too long. 🌬️ Breathe Your Way to a Better BrainBreathing isn’t just about oxygen – it’s a powerful switch for your brain state. Breathing six times per minute through your nose syncs your brainwaves, increases calm alpha waves, and activates the vagus nerve, shifting your body into “rest and digest” mode. Slow it down even further to three breaths per minute, and you may enter a deeply relaxed, meditative state where thinking fades and pure awareness takes over – something monks have practiced for millennia. 🧬 Movement, Mirroring & Human ConnectionWe explored how moving in sync with others builds trust and collaboration. From toddlers bouncing in time to world leaders dancing together (a scientist’s dream!), synchronised movement blurs the boundary between “me” and “you”, making us more cooperative and empathetic. This ties into the idea of mirror neurons – brain cells that fire when we observe and imitate others – explaining why mirroring someone’s tone or gestures builds rapport in negotiation and communication. 🧪 Left vs Right Brain – Myth Busted!Sorry, pop psychology fans – the idea that one side of the brain is “creative” and the other “logical” is an oversimplification. The two hemispheres work together constantly, communicating via the corpus callosum. Even jazz musicians improvising on stage use both hemispheres in harmony. 🍳 Fueling Your Brain – And Fighting FatigueCaroline shared new research on mitochondria – the “powerhouses” of our cells – and how they shape how energetic or exhausted we feel. Overloading them with too much sugar or fat actually reduces energy output. Their health may even be linked to mental health conditions like depression and chronic fatigue. The future of neuroscience could lie in understanding how to fuel these tiny engines effectively. 🌳 Nature, Light & MoodFinally, Caroline reminded us of the power of nature and daylight – especially in the darker months. Even short walks outside can reset our body clock, lift our mood, and spark creativity. No wonder Darwin had his famous “thinking path” for daily walks! 📚 Final ThoughtsCaroline Williams’ work reminds us that the key to unlocking our brain’s potential often lies in the simplest things: move more, breathe deeply, walk often, connect with others, fuel wisely, and step outside. It’s been an inspiring, eye-opening session on Monday Night Live – full of practical tools you can use to boost your creativity, focus, energy, and wellbeing. 📖 Connect with Caroline: Thank you, Caroline, for sharing your passion and wisdom. And thank you all for joining us – until next time, keep learning, keep moving, and keep your brain buzzing! ✍️ Watch the full replay above and don’t forget to subscribe for more world-class conversations every Monday night with me, Derek Arden, on Monday Night Live! 🚀

1. Welcome to the AI Frontier 🤖 Derek kicks off this week’s Monday Night Live with a bold question — are we truly ready for the AI era? One of the night’s most powerful moments comes early: Graham warns that millions of white-collar jobs could vanish or radically transform by 2027. Forget seeing AI as just a tool — Graham explains how some systems are already functioning as team members. Not all AI tools are created equal. In a fascinating segment, Graham shares how he built a custom GPT that mimics a real CTO’s thought process to help students learn through simulated dialogue. General AI is giving way to specialist systems — finely tuned for law, medicine, or education. Behind every AI leap is a hardware revolution. Can a machine show empathy? Universities are struggling to keep up with the pace of change. The episode closes with practical steps anyone can take today.
Did something in tonight’s chat make you think differently about AI and the future? If you’re a leader, learner, or innovator, Monday Night Live is where your ideas meet inspiration. 📅 Join us next Monday — same time, new insights, and another guest w

“Nature Leadership & Wellbeing: The Power of the Outdoors” Tonight’s guest on Monday Night Live (MNL) is our good friend David Skinner 🌟. But that’s not all. David is also a passionate advocate for the healing power of nature 🍃. Recently, David has been volunteering with A Dose of Nature, a charity dedicated to helping people improve wellbeing by reconnecting with the natural world. 🌱 Nature: More Than Just “Fresh Air”David reminds us that while nature isn’t a medicine (if you’re unwell, you should always see a doctor), research shows time and time again that spending time outdoors can have measurable benefits for:
And far from being “woo woo,” this is solid, evidence-based science with powerful implications for our daily lives. 👀 Seeing Green – Why Colour MattersDavid shared fascinating studies that show the colour green has real physiological effects:
Takeaway: Surround yourself with greenery 🌳 – it literally boosts brainpower and speeds up recovery. 👂 The Sounds of NatureFrom the rustle of leaves to birdsong and running water, the research is clear:
David highlighted that when we’re out walking with headphones on, we often miss these natural benefits. Perhaps it’s time to unplug, tune into the sounds around us, and let nature do its work. 👃 Smell & The Science of ForestsUnlike sight and sound, smell goes deeper – compounds we inhale actually enter our bloodstream. 🌲
Next time you’re in a pine forest after rain, breathe deeply – it’s good for you! 🍋🌿 🚶 Walking, Attention & Mental ClarityA University of Michigan study showed students performed 20% better on tests after walking in a park compared to a city street. Why? Because nature helps restore attention. Instead of constant stimulation from phones, traffic, or screens, natural settings give our minds space to relax, reset, and recharge. 🌍 Getting Dirty – The Microbiome ConnectionIt turns out dirt isn’t just dirt. The microbes we’re exposed to in soil can strengthen our immune systems.
Message: Don’t fear a little mud – it’s part of nature’s gift. ✨ Practical Tips You Can Try TodayDavid’s closing message was inspiringly simple:
This was another brilliantly researched and eye-opening session on Monday Night Live. David combined science, stories, and practical wisdom to show us how reconnecting with nature can transform our wellbeing, performance, and resilience. 🚴 It’s no surprise David is often found cycling across the South Downs or the Scottish Highlands – living proof of the benefits of nature in action. 📬 If you’d like to connect with David, you can reach him via LinkedIn or through Derek. 👉 Don’t forget to subscribe and join us for future episodes of Monday Night Live with Derek Arden – where brilliant guests bring insights that matter.nding us of the power of connection, kindness, and confidence. 🌟 📺 MONDAY NIGHT LIVE – WHERE IDEAS COME TO LIFE

| Jane Gunn with Derek Arden — Navigating Conflict in a Disrupted World | 15 Jul 2025 | 00:28:25 | |
Welcome to Monday Night Live
🎥 – Monday Night Live Jane Gunn — Navigating Conflict in a Disrupted World 🌍🕊️ The Age of Disruption: Why Conflict Is Rising 🔥 She described a “cycle of crisis” that’s leaving people disoriented — with many lacking the skills, mindset, or support systems needed to deal with tension constructively. Where Are the Role Models? 🧓👩🏫 Her poignant reminder: “No one’s coming to save us. It’s up to all of us to speak up.” Speaking Up — Even When It’s Hard 🗣️⚖️ She urged us to find safe spaces — with coaches, mentors, or trusted peers — to have “big conversations” and challenge injustice. Social media, she warned, isn’t that space. The Lost Art of Dialogue 💬☕ Jane reminded us that resolution happens not just through logic, but through human connection. As a mediator, she likens her work to hosting a dinner party: welcoming people, making them feel safe, and creating an environment where honest discussion can happen. From Chaos to Clarity — Jane’s Mediation Framework 🧭 Self-determination: Empowering people to make their own choices Fully informed consent: Ensuring decisions are based on truth, not assumptions The Murky Swamp of Reality: Facing difficult truths head-on, rather than avoiding them Her aim isn’t to “patch things up” artificially, but to guide people through the discomfort of truth — so they can make decisions that stick. Modern Challenges: AI, Comfort Culture, and Over-Reliance on Convenience 🤖🛋️ She also highlighted our culture’s obsession with comfort and convenience — and how it undermines our resilience and willingness to face hard decisions. “Some things must be uncomfortable and inconvenient — and still be the right thing to do.” A Glimpse Inside Jane’s World: 3 AM Mediations and Hotel Hideouts 🏨📑 Her secret weapons? Dark chocolate, protein-packed snacks (no pizza!), and relentless professionalism. Final Thought: Question Everything and Speak Up ✊💡 We all have a responsibility to challenge the dominant narrative, to seek truth beyond headlines, and to reconnect with real human dialogue. 📌 Don’t Miss Jane’s Free Webinar: “From Chaos to Clarity” 🙏 A huge thank you to Jane Gunn for another unforgettable evening of insight and inspiration. Until next time — keep thinking deeply and keep the conversation alive.

| Dylan Tweney—acclaimed IT journalist, former editor at Wired and VentureBeat, Derek Arden | 29 Jun 2025 | 00:28:21 | |
Welcome to Monday Night Live
🌟electrifying deep dive into the world of tech, journalism, AI, and digital wellbeing as we welcomed Dylan Tweney—acclaimed IT journalist, former editor at Wired and VentureBeat, and now a strategic communications coach. From interviewing Jeff Bezos to navigating the social-media slot machine, Dylan brought decades of frontline Silicon Valley experience to the Monday Night Live community. Here’s your full rundown of what was covered 👇 💻 The Truth About Tech JournalismDylan kicked off by sharing what it’s really like to be an IT journalist—an interpreter of complex innovations into plain English. From the early days of the PC boom to the current AI revolution, he’s been on the frontlines of every major tech wave. 📰 Career Highlights:
While Dylan no longer writes about gadgets, he specializes in enterprise tech—the powerful but often overlooked systems behind business transformation. “It’s not flashy,” he said, “but it’s where the real value is created.” 🤖 AI in Writing – Help or Hindrance? One of the most insightful segments came as Dylan addressed the rapid rise of AI tools like ChatGPT in writing. 📊 According to a survey Dylan conducted:
Why not more? Because AI can flatten creativity, Dylan warns. “AI-generated content often lacks soul—it’s polished, but not personal.” 🧠 Even more concerning: “AI changes how we think about what good writing looks like,” he explained. “If everyone starts copying the bots, human creativity could suffer.” 🧠 Social Media: The New Slot Machine?Dylan offered a hard-hitting perspective on social media’s addictive design—comparing platforms like Facebook and X (Twitter) to slot machines. 🎰 The dopamine loop:
“It made me miserable,” Dylan admitted, reflecting on his personal social media experience. “And I saw how algorithms drive content that keeps us scrolling, not necessarily what’s good for us.” Yet he remains optimistic. “I see young people who know how to unplug. There’s hope.” 🧬 Real Human Connection = Real HappinessIn contrast to tech’s dopamine traps, Dylan championed serotonin and oxytocin—our natural “feel-good” chemicals: ❤️ Hug someone On the rise of generative AI in China, Dylan noted that while some borrowing is inevitable, Chinese AI like DeepSeek and ERNIE builds on the same foundational research pioneered by Western labs. “It’s more evolution than theft,” he said, emphasizing that global AI progress is built on shared knowledge. 💬 Power Writing: No Weasel Words! As a writing coach, Dylan also gave us practical tips on powerful communication: ✂️ Cut the fluff: Get rid of “almost,” “very,” and other weasel words. 💥 Fun Fact: Great headline writers can earn 5x more than article writers—for good reason! 🤵 Interviewing Jeff Bezos – A Peek Inside the Billionaire MindYes, Dylan has interviewed Jeff Bezos—long before the Venice wedding closed half the city. His impression? “A Bond villain laugh, but a visionary mindset.” 📧 Interested in Dylan’s writing, coaching, or newsletter? 💡 Whether you’re a business leader, content creator, or just tech-curious—Dylan’s insights are pure gold. 👏 A huge thank you to Dylan Tweney for joining us this week on Monday Night Live. 📺 Don’t forget to like, comment, and share this episode if you enjoyed it.

Welcome to Monday Night Live
How Self-Doubt Holds High Achievers Back — And What To Do About It 🎙️ Monday Night Live with Dr. Kate Atkin: Unmasking the Imposter Phenomenon 👩🎓🧠 In this compelling episode of Monday Night Live, host Derek Arden welcomes Dr. Kate Atkin, a celebrated speaker, trainer, and now PhD graduate whose research dives deep into the Imposter Phenomenon — a silent struggle faced by even the most accomplished individuals. 🎓 With a fresh doctorate under her belt and years of experience on the subject, Dr. Atkin reveals the science, stories, and solutions behind a challenge that affects up to 70-80% of people at some point in their careers. 💬 What Is the Imposter Phenomenon?Forget “Imposter Syndrome” — Dr. Atkin deliberately uses the term phenomenon to reflect the temporary and situational nature of this experience. It’s not a mental health disorder, but rather a common psychological occurrence where successful people struggle to internalize their achievements, fearing they’ll be exposed as a “fraud.” Whether you’re an executive, entrepreneur, or emerging leader, chances are you’ve felt it: “I don’t deserve this,” or “One day, they’ll find out I’m not really that good.” 🔍 Key Highlights from the Discussion:1. A Personal and Academic Journey 👩🏫 2. Who Experiences It — And Why? 👥 3. Social Media and the Comparison Trap 📱 4. The Workplace Matters 🏢 5. Overworking and Overqualifying 📚

| Derek Arden, joined by the remarkable Sean West—former British soldier turned successful entrepreneur and elite security specialist. | 21 May 2025 | 00:28:48 | |
Welcome to this week’s exciting episode of Monday Night Live! Hello everyone, I’m Derek Arden and welcome to another inspiring edition of Monday Night Live. Incredible Journey of Shaun West Welcome to this week’s Monday Night Live hosted by Derek Arden, where we were joined by the remarkable Shaun West—former British soldier turned successful entrepreneur and elite security specialist. In this gripping episode, Shaun opens up about his time in the British Army, high-stakes missions around the globe, and the surprising lessons he learned on his journey to becoming a business owner in the ultra-demanding world of private security. 🪖 Life in the British Army: Grit, Growth & Global MissionsShaun’s journey began at just 16 years old when he enlisted in the British Army, entering a world of extreme physical and mental challenge. He shares what it was like to grow up fast in the military—how tough the initial training was, how many didn’t make it through, and what it meant to finally “earn the beret.” From Northern Ireland to Beijing and Afghanistan, Shaun found himself on presidential security teams and deep within hostile regions, gaining life-changing experience and resilience. He spoke about the camaraderie and chemistry among soldiers from diverse backgrounds—people from all over the world uniting in shared missions. 💣 On the Ground in Afghanistan: Frontline PerspectiveShaun gave us an eye-opening look at early post-9/11 operations in Afghanistan, including some close calls and complicated missions. While he didn’t personally negotiate with the Taliban, he worked closely with government agencies and serious organized crime units—always with the aim of protecting others under incredibly high-pressure conditions. 💼 Transitioning to Civilian Life: From Operator to EntrepreneurReturning to the UK, Shaun pivoted into the private security industry, starting out as an operator for high-net-worth individuals, including celebrities and professional athletes. His reputation for calm professionalism quickly grew: clients often asked, “Can we have Shaun again?” But running a business was a whole new battlefield. Shaun candidly discusses the difference between being a top-tier operator and running a company—where you have to switch from chess piece to chess player, thinking strategically rather than just executing tasks. 📈 Business Booms and Busts: Lessons in ResilienceDuring the COVID-19 pandemic, Shaun’s business flourished. Russian clients were doubling down on protection, creating a boom in demand. But that success was short-lived. When sanctions hit after the Russian invasion of Ukraine, Shaun lost 90% of his business in just three weeks. It was a brutal lesson in client diversification and risk management—but one that didn’t break him. Instead, it forged a smarter, more agile entrepreneur. ⚽ Protecting Footballers, Families & FortunesEver wondered what it takes to protect a footballer earning £350,000 a week? Shaun takes us behind the scenes of match-day security, residential protection, and family safeguarding. Footballers might not always need round-the-clock bodyguards, but their schedules are public, making them vulnerable—and Shaun’s team is ready for every scenario. 🐶 Dogs, Networks & Due DiligenceWe also talked about the crucial role of security dogs and how intuitive they are in escalating or de-escalating situations. Shaun shared how trust and a tight-knit professional network help him avoid “bad actors” trying to sneak into the industry—his vetting process is all about reputation, referrals, and relationships. 💡 Final Thoughts: Resilience, Public Speaking & Facing Your FearsShaun leaves us with some incredibly powerful insights into mental toughness, taking action despite fear, and why he found public speaking scarier than being shot at. Yes, really! Even after everything he’s faced, stepping on a TEDx stage was his Everest. His advice to the younger generation? 📣 Don’t Miss This Episode! 👇 Watch now, leave a comment, and tell us:

Welcome to Monday Night Live Welcome to this week’s exciting episode of Monday Night Live! Special Guest: Jasmin Faulk 🌟 An Extraordinary Journey of Courage, Culture & Resilience Who Is Jasmin Faulk? Jasmin Faulk is a woman of extraordinary strength and depth, whose life story reads like a gripping novel — but it’s all true. Born in Saudi Arabia to a Muslim father and an Italian Catholic mother, Jasmin spent the first 25 years of her life navigating the complex world of dual identity in one of the most conservative regimes in the world. This week on Monday Night Live, hosted by Derek Arden, Jasmin shares her story with incredible honesty, warmth, and insight. From her upbringing in a deeply traditional society to her daring escape to the United States, Jasmin’s story is not only captivating — it’s deeply moving and incredibly relevant in today’s world. A Childhood Between Worlds Jasmin began the episode by walking us through her early life. Her parents’ cross-cultural love story was rare for its time — a Saudi architecture student and a post-war Italian woman who fell in love in Florence in the 1960s. Although they came from two drastically different worlds, their union was marked by openness and acceptance, with both families embracing one another. But for Jasmin, growing up in Saudi Arabia as a bicultural child meant always feeling like an outsider — even within her own home. Her Italian mother tried to assimilate into Saudi culture, even converting to Islam, but the deep contrasts in tradition and lifestyle never went unnoticed. Jasmin sensed early on that something about her life felt “off” and dreamed of a different future — one that felt out of reach. A Dangerous Dream of Freedom As Jasmin entered adolescence, the limitations of her life as a Saudi woman became more stark. While men in her culture had choices and freedoms — to study abroad, to marry outside their culture — those same options were denied to women. Jasmin’s longing for freedom grew into an obsession. Her escape was meticulously planned. With the help of a trusted cousin and a bold, carefully orchestrated lie, she secured permission to travel — and made it to the airport in full traditional dress. With fear gripping her every step, she passed through security and boarded a plane. The moment the wheels lifted off the tarmac, she knew she was free. She eventually made her way to the United States — a land she had fantasized about since childhood, thanks to American films and music — and began the next chapter of her life. A New Life, a New Identity Jasmin’s transition to life in America was not without its struggles. She had to learn and do everything for the first time — drive, open a bank account, speak freely, make independent choices. But each step was a victory. Over time, she earned degrees in sociology, multiculturalism, creative writing, and ethical leadership. Her memoir, The Sandstorm, captures her journey in rich, unforgettable detail. In this episode, she also shares photos from her past, offering a deeply personal visual narrative to accompany her words. What Jasmin Stands For Today Now living in Seattle, Jasmin dedicates her life to activism, education, and storytelling. She is passionate about bridging cultural divides, challenging extremist ideologies, and advocating for tolerance, open-mindedness, and resilience. Her message is clear: even in the face of extreme repression, it is possible to reclaim your life, your voice, and your future. Get in Touch with Jasmin Final Thoughts from Derek Arden “This was one of the most emotional and inspiring Monday Night Lives we’ve ever had. Jasmin’s courage and authenticity are deeply humbling. Welcome to Monday Night Live Welcome to another insightful episode of and now a leading expert on mnday Night Live! I’m Derek Arden, and this week, I’m joined by the fantastic Michael Dodd – a seasoned journalist, foreign correspondent, Media communication and interview techniques. Michael’s career kicked off in Sydney with the Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC), where he was trained in the art of asking “blowtorch on the belly” questions – tough, persistent inquiries designed to put real pressure on political figures. This phrase, coined by an Australian politician, became the backbone of Michael’s journalistic style, pushing for truth and accountability. In our conversation, Michael shares his journey from covering politics in Canberra to witnessing the historic revolutions of Eastern Europe, including the fall of the Berlin Wall and the Velvet Revolution in Prague. He tells a captivating story of interviewing Václav Havel, the Czech dissident-playwright who would later become president. Havel’s masterful response to a tough question about his political ambitions became a defining moment in Michael’s career and illustrates how great communicators can turn pointed questions into opportunities for impactful messaging. As we shift to modern-day media dynamics, Michael offers a behind-the-scenes look at how journalists operate during high-stakes press conferences, like those with Prime Ministers or Presidents. He explains how competitive journalists, from Sky News to the BBC, often don’t coordinate their questions but instead aim to deliver the sharpest queries for their respective audiences and editors. We also dive into Michael’s transition from journalism to media training. He now teaches business leaders, politicians, and even sports coaches how to respond to difficult questions with confidence and clarity. His approach is rooted in integrity – always advocating for honest and effective communication rather than evasiveness. Michael introduces us to his golden formula, the ABCDE method, for crafting powerful responses to tough questions: A: Answer the question (or acknowledge it if you can’t fully respond). We also discuss how these media dynamics affect leaders in business and sports. Michael shares anecdotes from his media training with rugby league teams and how captains and managers can apply the ABCDE formula to defuse criticism and refocus on positive actions, even under pressure from hostile media or frustrated fans. From dissecting press conference tactics to reflecting on the wider implications of truth and integrity in public discourse, Michael brings a wealth of wisdom, wit, and practical advice to this conversation. For those interested in learning more about Michael’s approach, he mentions his book, Great Answers to Tough Questions at Work, which dives deeper into his ABCDE strategy and how to stay composed and effective when the heat is on. If you’re a business leader, media professional, or just someone keen to sharpen your communication skills, you won’t want to miss this masterclass. 👉 Check out Michael’s website at www.michaeldoddcommunications.com to sign up for his free newsletter and stay updated on his latest insights. | Mastering Public Speaking One of Patricia’s fundamental principles is that communication should always be audience-centered. | 11 Feb 2025 | 00:25:40
Welcome to Monday Night Live Mastering Public Speaking with Patricia Fripp | Monday Night Live with Derek Arden This week on Monday Night Live, host Derek Arden welcomed the legendary Patricia Fripp, an award-winning keynote speaker, executive speech coach, and sales presentation expert. With her vast experience in communication and storytelling, Patricia shared invaluable insights into crafting powerful messages that resonate with audiences. A Sneak Peek into the Global Speaking Association Winter WorkshopPatricia is gearing up for a major keynote speech at the Global Speaking Association’s Winter Workshop in March. In this special session of Monday Night Live, she gave us an exclusive dress rehearsal, offering a glimpse into the expertise she’ll be sharing with an audience of top speakers, business experts, and consultants. Key Takeaways from Patricia’s Talk
One of Patricia’s fundamental principles is that communication should always be audience-centered. She emphasized that people care more about themselves than the speaker, which means successful presenters must shift their focus from “I” to “You”. By incorporating “you-focused” phrases, speakers can engage their audience on a deeper level.
Patricia shared various techniques for grabbing attention from the very first sentence. Some of her go-to methods include: Asking a compelling question (e.g., “Have you ever walked into a room full of strangers and didn’t know how to start a conversation?”) Using an interesting statistic with an emotional hook (e.g., “Would it surprise you to know that 80% of professionals fear public speaking?”) Transporting the audience through time, either by taking them into the past (“Let’s go back to February 3rd, 2000…”) or painting a vivid future scenario (“Imagine it’s February 17th, 2026, and you’re delivering the highest-paid speech of your career…”)
With her experience studying screenwriting, Patricia emphasized the importance of starting stories late in the scene. Instead of lengthy backstories, she advised speakers to dive straight into the action. For example, rather than saying, “I grew up wanting to be a scientist…”, start with: “Being a scientist is like doing a jigsaw puzzle without the picture.” This instantly creates intrigue and connection.
One of Patricia’s ongoing missions is to encourage speakers to use more specific language. She pointed out that phrases like “He promised her everything” are vague, whereas “He promised her romance and adventure” create a stronger emotional impact.
Patricia’s advice: always bring your audience full circle. She recommended reminding listeners of the vision they created earlier in the presentation and encouraging them to take action to make it a reality. A Brilliant Rehearsal & A Look AheadThis Monday Night Live session was a fantastic opportunity for Patricia to refine her keynote speech before her big event. She graciously thanked the audience for their feedback and the chance to practice in a live setting. Derek Arden wrapped up the session by reminding everyone about the upcoming Monday Night Live 5th Anniversary Celebration on March 24th. If you want to connect with Patricia Fripp or explore her online training programs, her Virtual Training (VT) platform is available for anyone eager to elevate their speaking skills. Final ThoughtsPatricia Fripp’s expertise in communication and storytelling made this episode a true masterclass in impactful speaking. Whether you’re a seasoned professional or just starting your journey in public speaking, her insights will help you craft messages that captivate and inspire. Derek Arden
| Derek Arden welcomes an inspiring leader in education, Mike Foley, CEO of the Wessex Academy | 04 Feb 2025 | 00:35:03 | |
Welcome to Monday Night Live Join us for another insightful episode of Monday Night Live, where Derek Arden welcomes an inspiring leader in education, Mike Foley, CEO of the Wessex Academy Trust. With a career spanning from teaching in London to leading one of the UK’s most successful Multi-Academy Trusts, Mike shares his journey, leadership insights, and the challenges of managing 12 schools, 7,000 students, and nearly 1,000 staff members. Mike Foley’s Leadership JourneyMike’s career in education started unexpectedly. Growing up in South London, he initially considered a legal career after earning a history degree. However, a postgrad opportunity in teaching changed everything. He quickly discovered his passion for education, leading him to rapid promotions and eventually to the role of headteacher in his late 30s. After a decade in that role, he embraced the challenge of leading The Thomas Hardy School, one of the largest schools in the UK, before taking on the CEO position at Wessex Academy Trust in 2021. The Challenges of Leading a Multi-Academy TrustRunning a multi-academy trust is a monumental task. Mike explains how strategic leadership, teamwork, and a strong culture keep the organization running smoothly. Key leadership challenges include:
A recurring theme in Mike’s leadership philosophy is trusting and empowering people. He emphasizes that leading at scale means ensuring others are motivated, aligned with the vision, and able to execute effectively. The key question he always asks himself is: How do I get people to do the right things, willingly and passionately? Mike also discusses the importance of continuous performance management. Instead of outdated annual reviews, the trust has moved towards ongoing performance reflection and feedback loops, helping leaders and teachers stay sharp and motivated. Education and Innovation – The Role of AIWith artificial intelligence (AI) becoming a hot topic in education, Mike shares how Wessex Academy Trust is using AI creatively rather than banning it outright. One example? Students critiquing AI-generated essays to enhance their learning experience. He believes that embracing new technology, rather than fearing it, is crucial for the future of education. Mobile Phones in Schools – A Balanced ApproachOne of the biggest debates in education today is mobile phone use in schools. Mike recalls how, as headteacher at Thomas Hardy, he introduced a compromise policy: students could bring phones to school, but they had to be turned off and put away during the day. Breaking the rule meant parents had to come in to collect the phone. The result? A school-wide culture of responsibility and respect. Being an Ofsted Inspector – Insights from the InsideAs an Ofsted inspector, Mike provides valuable insights into the inspection process. He highlights that Ofsted’s role isn’t just to criticize but to confirm schools’ own self-assessments and help them improve. He also discusses upcoming changes to the Ofsted framework, expected in September 2025, which could impact the way Multi-Academy Trusts are evaluated. Final Leadership Advice – Building ResilienceWhen asked for his one piece of advice for aspiring leaders, Mike emphasizes resilience. His mantra? Find the good in the bad. Every challenge presents a learning opportunity, and those who can adapt and push forward will be the most successful in any field. Thank You for Watching! A huge thank you to Mike Foley for sharing his expertise and leadership wisdom. If you’re passionate about education, leadership, or innovation, this episode is a must-watch! 👉 Don’t forget to like, c Derek Arden

| Derek Arden and Tim Durkin: Exploring Synergy and Leadership | 12 Nov 2024 | 00:27:54 | |
Join Derek Arden for this week’s engaging session of Monday Night Live, where Derek hosts returning guest Tim Durkin, an original member of the Monday Night Live community. Tim, a seasoned educator, leadership expert, and prolific speaker, brings unique insights from his extensive career studying influential figures in leadership, including Stephen Covey. This session is a quick dive into Covey’s timeless lessons on effective living and leadership from ‘The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People’, as Tim shares how Covey’s principles have shaped his own life and work. Setting the Stage: Stephen Covey’s Influence on Leadership Core Principles Discussed: The 7 Habits Be Proactive: Taking responsibility for one’s choices and their outcomes. Synergy is the art of creating outcomes that surpass individual contributions, and Tim explains how Covey’s idea of synergy is more relevant than ever in our interconnected world. He describes synergy as the result of blending diverse perspectives, yielding more comprehensive solutions. Whether in relationships, organizations, or communities, synergy fosters collaboration and growth. Tim likens synergy to Covey’s “P/PC balance” concept, which balances production (P) with production capacity (PC). In other words, maintaining productivity requires nurturing resources—be they teams, relationships, or individual well-being. This idea resonates with today’s challenges, where effective leaders must invest in people, not just outcomes. Prioritizing Self-Care: “Sharpening the Saw”n a world filled with constant demands, Covey’s Sharpen the Saw habit emphasizes the importance of self-renewal across four dimensions: physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual. Tim shares his own experiences with the benefits of self-care, highlighting how Covey’s advice helped him navigate personal challenges by choosing intentional responses over impulsive reactions. As an advocate for balanced well-being, Tim underscores that self-care isn’t a luxury; it’s essential for maintaining productivity and resilience. For leaders and individuals alike, investing in self-care enables them to give their best to others. Navigating Communication: The Art of ListeningAnother highlight is Seek First to Understand, Then to Be Understood, a principle that encourages empathic listening. Tim discusses how most people listen with the intent to respond rather than understand, often leading to misunderstandings and missed opportunities for connection. By truly listening, he explains, individuals can foster respect, clarity, and trust. For leaders, this skill is invaluable for nurturing a collaborative, supportive environment. Tim illustrates this principle with an exercise involving differing perspectives. He explains how shifting one’s perspective, or point of view, can lead to richer understanding and synergy. This flexibility, he suggests, is a powerful way to bridge differences and build meaningful relationships. Finding Unity in a Divided World: The Relevance of Covey’s Teachings TodayIn today’s polarized world, Covey’s wisdom is particularly timely. Tim addresses how synergy and collaboration can help heal divisions and build bridges across diverse groups. Drawing on Covey’s philosophy, he encourages viewers to strive for unity and understanding rather than division. This mindset, Tim emphasizes, can cultivate growth both individually and collectively. Wrapping Up: Lifelong Learning and the Impact of Monday Night LiveTim reflects on his journey with Monday Night Live, where he’s experienced the power of collective growth through the group’s shared commitment to lifelong learning. The synergy created within this community has been transformative, reinforcing Covey’s belief in the power of collaboration. In conclusion, this week’s session of Monday Night Live celebrates the enduring value of Stephen Covey’s insights. Tim’s reflections provide valuable lessons in proactive living, self-care, and the importance of understanding others. For anyone committed to growth, Tim’s words serve as a powerful reminder of how Covey’s principles can lead to a more purposeful, effective life. Derek Arden Tim Durkin

| Monday Night Live Derek Arden: Interview with Jane Gunn about mediation | 23 Oct 2024 | 00:33:30 | |
Welcome to Monday Night Live! On this week’s episode of Monday Night Live, hosted by Derek Arden, the guest was international mediator, lawyer, and author, Jane Gunn. Known for her innovative approach to mediation, Jane has handled everything from personal disputes to high-profile commercial cases. In this episode, Derek engages Jane in an insightful discussion about the art and science of mediation, the hidden costs of conflict, and her strategies for creating a calm and fair environment, even in the most heated disputes. The Role of Chocolate in Mediation Derek starts the conversation with a light-hearted but intriguing question: “Why do you always bring sweets and chocolates to a mediation?” Jane explains that something as simple as offering a snack can break tension, energize the participants, and even help people think more clearly. She mentions that during a long and emotionally charged mediation, people tend to skip meals or neglect their basic needs, which can exacerbate stress. By offering small comforts like chocolate, she subtly encourages breaks that help people step back, recharge, and re-enter the discussion with a clearer mindset. Managing David and Goliath Situations A key theme of the discussion was the challenge of mediating imbalanced power dynamics, or “David and Goliath” situations. One audience question asked, “How can a mediator ensure a fair outcome when one party holds more power?” Jane stressed the importance of balancing the scales by giving both parties the space to be heard, challenging their perceptions, and fostering an environment where they can interact as human beings rather than adversaries. Mediation, she emphasized, is about helping people step off the “conveyor belt” of conflict escalation. Instead of heading straight for court, Jane helps them explore different perspectives, think about their relationships, health, and the real costs—emotional, financial, and personal—that conflict brings into their lives. The Cost of Litigation Jane’s experience has shown her that people often underestimate the impact litigation can have on their health and well-being. Many clients enter a legal battle convinced they are right, focusing only on winning. But they fail to account for the strain prolonged litigation can place on their mental and physical health, relationships, and overall quality of life. One of the most eye-opening moments in her career came during a commercial property dispute where one of the participants had an epiphany: if he spent the next two years litigating, he would lose precious time with his chronically ill wife. This realization shifted his priorities from winning a legal battle to preserving his personal life. Dealing with Uncertainty and Fear Jane touched on the increasing uncertainty people feel today, from financial concerns to global instability, and how these external anxieties fuel personal conflicts. People’s fears about the future can spill over into how they interact with others, making conflicts harder to resolve. In mediations, Jane helps participants acknowledge these underlying emotions and address them so they can focus on resolving their differences. Mediation Techniques and The Power of Listening Derek and Jane explored the importance of listening—not just to each other but also to oneself. In her mediations, Jane encourages people to deeply reflect on what really matters to them. This kind of introspection helps to break away from the surface-level demands and focus on deeper needs, beliefs, and goals. She also uses tools like flip charts to visually display the cost of conflict, encouraging clients to see the broader impact of their decisions and the ripple effects on their lives. Jane’s mediation approach is rooted in “principled negotiation,” a method from the Harvard Negotiation Project. This process moves beyond positional bargaining—where each side is fixed on their demands—and digs deeper into underlying needs and shared values. By exploring multiple options and finding common ground, parties can create solutions that are more sustainable and fulfilling for everyone involved. Virtual Mediation and New Approaches Post-Pandemic As the conversation winds down, Jane reflects on how the pandemic has changed the way mediations are conducted. While she still prefers face-to-face meetings, virtual mediation has provided some surprising advantages, especially for participants who are too emotionally charged to be in the same room. The online format offers a degree of distance, which can help diffuse tension, and provides more flexible options for scheduling shorter, less intense sessions over time. Conclusion: A Journey of Reflection Jane Gunn leaves the audience with a powerful message: mediation is not just about resolving disputes—it’s about reflecting on what truly matters in our lives. Whether in personal relationships, business partnerships, or international conflicts, stepping back from the brink and finding common ground can lead to healthier, more fulfilling outcomes. Her latest book, which explores these themes through the lens of storytelling, serves as a reminder that conflict can often be the bridge that helps us cross into greater understanding and peace. This summary captures the essence of Derek Arden’s enlightening discussion with Jane Gunn, offering both practical tips and profound reflections on conflict resolution. Be sure to check out the full episode to dive deeper into Jane’s unique and thoughtful approach to mediation.

| Monday Night Live Derek Arden: Interview with Graham Jones about AI in education and business | 23 Oct 2024 | 00:29:52 | |
Welcome to Monday Night Live!
Welcome to another insightful episode of Monday Night Live with Derek Arden! This week, Derek is joined by Graham Jones, Head of Business Studies at the University of Buckingham, for an engaging and forward-looking conversation on the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in shaping both the educational and business landscapes. With AI evolving at a rapid pace, its influence on universities, businesses, and industries worldwide is undeniable. Graham offers his expert take on how institutions must adapt to AI advancements or face potentially dire consequences. The Future of Higher Education – AI Takes Center Stage In a candid discussion, Graham highlights the financial challenges currently facing UK universities, with several on the brink of bankruptcy due to outdated practices and declining student enrollment. He points out how traditional lecture theaters and teaching methods are becoming obsolete as AI takes on more advanced roles in education. Graham predicts that universities will need to pivot toward AI-accredited qualifications to remain relevant, fundamentally changing the higher education system. Through the historical lens of academia, he discusses how the role of professors and the concept of lecture theaters have remained largely unchanged for centuries. Graham argues that AI’s capability to enhance and even replace many traditional educational functions—like creating new content and conducting assessments—will modernize the system and force universities to rethink their approach. AI’s Role in Business Efficiency – A Radical Shift Ahead The conversation then moves to the transformative power of AI in business operations. According to Graham, AI’s ability to handle both administrative and creative tasks will dramatically reduce the number of employees businesses need. The prediction? Companies that previously required a workforce of 100 people may soon only need 5, thanks to AI’s efficiency in automating tasks, managing websites, and making real-time adjustments based on data. Practical examples of AI’s growing presence in business were shared, such as its ability to generate content, design websites, and create infographics in seconds—streamlining processes and saving both time and money. AI: Ethical Concerns and Security Issues While AI brings about promising developments, Graham also emphasizes the ethical and security concerns surrounding its use. He shares examples of cyber fraud, misuse of AI in criminal activities like human trafficking, and the recent criticism aimed at Starling Bank for not keeping up with AI-driven security measures. He stresses the need for robust legislation to regulate AI and protect against potential abuses, pointing out that it’s not AI we should fear but how it may be misused by bad actors. Practical Applications of AI in Content Creation Graham gives a hands-on demonstration of how AI can be used to create content, showing how it can transform raw text into visually appealing infographics. As he walks the audience through the process of turning Derek’s body language notes into professional-looking infographics, he highlights the speed, accuracy, and efficiency with which AI can produce valuable materials for businesses and educators alike. This episode underscores the importance of businesses staying competitive by adopting AI, while also being mindful of its ethical implications. The discussion wraps up with a look at the exciting future of AI and its inevitable impact on job markets, urging industries to adapt or risk falling behind. Conclusion: AI – Revolutionizing Education and Business As the episode concludes, Graham and Derek both agree that AI is no longer just a technological tool but a force that will shape the future of industries worldwide. Universities must modernize to survive, and businesses must embrace AI to remain efficient and competitive. However, this technological revolution comes with challenges, especially concerning ethics and security. AI is not just generating new things—it’s poised to become an intelligent agent that manages, optimizes, and, in some cases, replaces human roles in business. As we march toward a future where AI is an integral part of our lives, the real question isn’t if AI will replace jobs but rather how businesses, educational institutions, and individuals will adapt to the rapidly changing world it brings. Join us on this fascinating journey into the future of AI, and stay tuned for more engaging discussions every Monday Night Live! Don’t forget to like, subscribe, and share this episode on YouTube! | Monday Night Live with Derek Arden: Interview with Brendan Kearney - Russian Ukraine Tension | 23 Oct 2024 | 00:34:36
Welcome to Monday Night Live! In this week’s compelling episode of Monday Night Live, host Derek Arden welcomes Colonel Brendan Kearney (Ret.), former Chief of Staff of the U.S. Marine Forces Europe, for a dynamic conversation that spans decades of military leadership and pressing global issues. Colonel Kearney, a seasoned Marine with over 30 years of service, provides a unique and insightful perspective on critical topics such as the war in Ukraine, NATO’s evolving role, and the geopolitical complexities of Russia and Israel. This episode offers a rich blend of leadership wisdom, historical context, and forward-looking views on global security challenges. Career Reflections and Leadership Lessons: With a passion for continued learning and service, Kearney remains engaged as a military commentator on global media platforms like the BBC, where he offers analysis on current military affairs. His perspective, grounded in both experience and study, adds depth to his observations on contemporary challenges in global military operations. Ukraine Conflict and Russia’s Strategic Failures: Kearney provides an expert assessment of the Ukrainian military’s remarkable transformation since 2014, when they were initially unprepared to confront Russian aggression. Now, through significant training and support from Western allies, including the UK and the U.S., Ukraine’s forces have demonstrated innovation and resilience, turning the tide of the conflict. Kearney highlights the incompetence of the Russian military, particularly in logistics and leadership, as one of the main reasons for their failure to achieve quick victory. The conversation touches on the potential for this war to extend into trench warfare, reminiscent of the early 20th century, with Kearney warning that the conflict may drag on, especially as Ukraine heads into a difficult winter. The Role of NATO and the Threat of Nuclear Warfare: On the subject of nuclear threats, Kearney is cautious but clear: while Putin continues to rattle the nuclear saber, Kearney does not believe Russia will cross that line, citing logistical and environmental concerns that would impact Russia itself. The possibility of tactical nuclear weapons being used is, in his view, more of a burden than a solution for Russia, as such weapons create hazardous environments for all forces involved. Middle East Conflict and Israel’s Security Situation: Kearney provides a historical context for the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, highlighting the complexity of the situation and the difficulty of achieving lasting peace. He concludes with reflections on the regional instability that affects not just the Middle East but global security. Final Thoughts and Negotiation Insights: To round off the conversation, Kearney shares his experience with difficult military negotiations, particularly in Okinawa, Japan, where tensions between U.S. military operations and local governments required delicate diplomacy. His reflections on negotiation tactics, leadership under pressure, and maintaining alliances offer valuable lessons for listeners interested in strategic thinking and effective communication.

| Monday Night Live with Derek Arden: Interview with Realtor Negotiator Eva Fanari | 17 Sep 2024 | 00:24:41 | |
🎙️ Monday Night Live with Derek Arden: Interview with Eva Fanari Welcome to another exciting episode of Monday Night Live! In this episode, Derek Arden sits down with Eva Fanari, a talented real estate broker, trainer, and professional speaker from Albuquerque, New Mexico. Eva, a longtime friend of the show, shares her insights on negotiation, emotional intelligence, and even her journey as an immigrant to the U.S. from Estonia. This episode is packed with practical tips, lighthearted moments, and plenty of wisdom for everyone, whether you’re in business, real estate, or just looking for personal growth! Meet Eva Fanari – Real Estate Broker & Professional SpeakerEva Fanari’s story is nothing short of inspirational. She immigrated to the U.S. from Estonia at the age of 21, got married, and started a family. Today, she’s not only a successful real estate broker but also the newly appointed president of the National Speakers Association in Albuquerque – congratulations, Eva! But that’s not all! Eva writes a weekly column for an Estonian newspaper, offering readers a fresh perspective on U.S. politics and culture. In this interview, she explains how she captures the real voices of people in everyday life – from conversations at grocery stores to chats with colleagues at the water cooler. Her unique, neutral approach to politically charged topics is something we could all learn from. Realtor’s Top Tips for Negotiation 🏡One of the main highlights of this episode is Eva’s incredible advice on negotiation. As a real estate expert, she knows how crucial it is to master the art of negotiation, especially in deals that can stretch over weeks or even months. Here are Eva’s top three tips for successful negotiation:
Eva is not only a skilled negotiator but also a coach who runs spiritual seminars on emotional management and personal growth. She emphasizes that emotions are chemical reactions to external events and that we have the power to manage these emotions. In her seminars, she teaches participants how to be more in tune with their emotions, how to forgive past grievances, and how to take charge of their emotional well-being. Eva also highlights the importance of boredom – yes, you read that right! Boredom allows us to be present and truly sit with ourselves, something many of us avoid in our distraction-filled world of social media and entertainment. When we’re constantly busy, we lose touch with who we are and what we want. Embracing moments of boredom can lead to personal breakthroughs. Cultural Reflections & Patriotic TraditionsA fun and insightful part of the conversation dives into the cultural differences between Estonia and the U.S. For example, in Estonia, it’s mandatory to fly the national flag on public holidays, while in the U.S., it’s done voluntarily. Eva shares stories of her time in both countries, reflecting on the different ways patriotism is expressed and how her experiences shape her view of national pride. Real Estate Market Insights 📊Eva also gives us a glimpse into the current state of the U.S. housing market and the changing regulations around real estate commissions. She explains that the way real estate brokers get paid hasn’t fundamentally changed, but the regulatory environment is shifting. More paperwork and transparency are required, which impacts the industry. The conversation touches on the complexities of the U.S. legal system, real estate commissions, and how certain litigation trends affect real estate professionals. It’s a must-listen for anyone curious about the behind-the-scenes of the real estate world! Final Thoughts on Negotiation & LifeAs both Eva and Derek are experienced negotiators, they wrap up the interview by discussing how negotiation plays a role in everyday life, whether in business, relationships, or even politics. Eva’s advice goes beyond real estate and is applicable to anyone looking to improve their negotiation skills.
