'Last Seen' Episode 5: Flashbacks, Moral Lines, and a Dangerous Next Move
Season 24 · Episode 21
Wednesday, September 30, 2026 • Duration 01:06:54
In this episode of Needs Some Introduction, we check in on the nor’easter, preview upcoming coverage of HBO Max’s War and the Lanterns finale, and note the Montclair Film Festival lineup and Patreon plans. We then break down Last Seen’s flashback-heavy episode, revealing how Jenna and Henry met, Jenna’s prior relationship with Donald, and how Henry’s controlling upbringing shaped him. We discuss the devastating death of Henry and Jenna’s young daughter, Henry’s calculated abduction of Ian and Deb’s child, and how the show frames reality-TV-style manipulation and ethical boundaries around grief and children in peril. We also revisit key plot mechanics (including Henry’s ricochet shot hitting Jenna) and debate Deb’s anger at Ian as he escalates toward a risky, potentially suicidal confrontation to get Mags back.

Lanterns’ Penultimate Episode, 'PrimeTime' vs. 'Predators', and 'Mobland'
Season 24 · Episode 20
Tuesday, September 29, 2026 • Duration 01:11:02
On this episode of Need Some Introduction, Darren and I discuss the penultimate episode of Lanterns (“The Jordan Boys Legacy”), including its father-son themes, the revelation of generational suicide in Hal’s family, the new buddy-cop dynamic between John Stewart and “Halogram,” and our mixed feelings about pacing, the extended off-world sequence, minimal Sinestro screen time, and an extraneous blackmail subplot. We also talk about recent storms and shark scares, revisit Jaws sequels and nostalgia, and Darren’s Avengers: Endgame re-release experience, which leads into a broader conversation about Marvel’s resurgence, Spider-Man’s huge box office, and signs the theatrical market is healthier with multiple films performing well. Victor reviews Prime Time (with Robert Pattinson) and compares it to the Predators documentary, and they briefly check in on Ted Lasso, Chad Powers, Stick, and Mob Land.
'Last Seen' Ep. 4 “The Truth” + Sona watched 'Widow's Bay' and Family TV Recommendations
Season 24 · Episode 19
Wednesday, September 23, 2026 • Duration 01:38:50
We recap and discuss “The Truth,” episode four of Last Seen, including how the show keeps suspense high while answering questions quickly, and we debate frustrations with Ian’s choices and the detectives’ handling of key evidence like the birth certificate. We break down major developments: Henry’s unexpected cooperation, the police visit to the farm, Sarah/Maggie’s growing doubts, Jenna’s guilt and confrontation with Deb at the flower shop, Donald’s conflicted loyalty, and the escalating endgame that culminates in a violent shootout where Bill is badly wounded, Jenna is hit, and Henry flees with his family despite a damaged gas line. We note next week’s flashback structure, then pivot to a propofol vs. propranolol correction, talk about finishing Widows Bay, and briefly discuss Ted Lasso plus family-friendly viewing picks like Long Way Home, The Amazing Race, and Taskmaster.
Victor previews a packed “Need Some Introduction” episode covering Lanterns, Zach Cregger’s new Resident Evil film, the MobLand Season 2 premiere, and the Reacher season finale, with Darren joining later. Victor explains the blended-format approach with timestamps and upcoming October coverage, then breaks down Lanterns episode 11, “Bad Optics,” set 10 years after Rushville: John Stewart and his brother pitch modular disaster bunkers, Hal Jordan is revealed to have served prison time for the massacre, and Hal is murdered on the bleachers, prompting Guy Gardner’s arrival, Sinestro’s jailbreak news, and a sparsely attended funeral featuring Hal’s self-written eulogy. John uses the ring’s remaining charge to manifest a backup Hal, setting up the final episodes, before the show transitions to Darren’s reactions on Reacher, Resident Evil, and MobLand.
'Last Seen' Episode 3 “The Lie” + Emmy Chat, and What’s Next on the Podcast
Season 24 · Episode 17
Wednesday, September 16, 2026 • Duration 01:04:58
We recap and react to Episode 3 of Last Seen, “The Lie,” focusing on how fast the mystery is moving and how close everyone is to connecting the clues. We discuss Sarah/Mags pushing back against her father’s control, Jenna’s growing fear of losing her, and Donald’s dawning realization that his brother may be hiding something serious, plus Ian’s increasingly relentless investigation (including the phone booth audio and the suspicious lack of fingerprints) that seems poised to force the truth into the open. Along the way, we talk about the Emmys and why Widow’s Bay is worth binging, touch on other series like Pluribus, The Pitt, The Diplomat, Colin From Accounts, and Trying, and preview upcoming coverage: HBO Max/BBC’s courtroom anthology War in October and Dexter’s return on October 30.
Darren and I recap and react to “Lights Out,” the fifth episode of Lanterns, along with what we’ve been watching and a few culture/news updates. We start with talk about the NFL game in Melbourne and why certain U.S. cultural exports (sports, cars, country music) resonate in Australia, then briefly discuss Reacher heading into its season finale (including disagreements on last week’s episode and the mystery logic), and note the Neagley spinoff dropping the same night and Mob Land premiering Friday. We also cover the Australian series Last Seen (its structure, small-town setting in Victoria, and Patrick Brammall) and Colin from Accounts season three, plus Darren scoring Radiohead tickets and our plan to launch a Patreon playlist starting with a Bon Iver track from Lanterns. For Lanterns, we dig into major plot turns and action, Zoe’s Manhunter reveal, the town’s complicity, the regeneration tech, Hal’s Halograph, the ring tug-of-war, the episode’s brutal set pieces, and theories about who the Manhunter really is going forward as the show’s ratings climb and a second season is confirmed, before closing with quick notes on Supergirl and Resident Evil release timing.
'Last Seen' (Apple TV+) Episodes 1–2 Plus: Rewatching 'The Sopranos'
Season 24 · Episode 15
Thursday, September 10, 2026 • Duration 01:19:30
In this episode of Need Some Introduction, we discuss the first two episodes of Apple TV+’s six-episode Australian series Last Seen (often mistakenly called “Last Call”), including the confusing title change from The Dispatcher. We talk about how the show subverts expectations by delaying the central phone call until episode two, revealing a discovered child’s body in episode one, and then pivoting into a coming-of-age storyline for the missing girl, with strong performances—especially from the actress in her first role. We cover the psychological fallout for dispatcher Ian Ridley (six months sober, family estrangement, addiction relapse risk), the vigil, and the implications of the call, plus questions about casting lookalikes, Donald’s suspicious connection as Ian’s sponsor, and the mystery of the pajamas found with the body. We also briefly discuss Sona’s North Fork trip and finish with a conversation about a Sopranos rewatch, including its episodic storytelling, themes, and interpretations of the finale and Adriana’s death.
'Lanterns' Episode 4: "The Weenie", a Deepening Conspiracy Emerges
Season 24 · Episode 14
Tuesday, September 8, 2026 • Duration 59:28
In this episode, Darren and I recap Lanterns episode 4, “The Weenie,” which Victor calls his favorite so far because the mysteries are sharpening and the next-episode trailer promises more action. We discuss Sinestro warning Hal about ulterior motives, Jon Stewart being pressured by the Guardians’ representative to steal Hal’s ring, and the investigation in town as the sheriff temporarily aligns with them to prevent annihilation. The episode strongly points to Zoe, Macon’s wife, as the Manhunter, including her apparent “death” via satellite strike and the breadcrumb trail leading to a billionaire benefactor whose alien tech enables cow-teleportation and other miracles. We break down the noir theme of everyone lying, Hal’s decision to undermine Jon rather than team up, and the cliffhanger where Hal crashes Jon’s car after arranging a meeting with the incoming aliens.
'Lanterns’ Episode 3: John Stewart's Origin + 'Reacher' Nears the Finale
Season 24 · Episode 13
Thursday, September 3, 2026 • Duration 01:09:23
In this midweek episode, Darren and I check in on what we’ve been watching and preview what’s coming next on the podcast. We dig into a tense, setup-heavy Reacher episode two weeks out from the finale, including the reveal that the sought-after photograph contains a chemical formula, Reacher’s precarious cliffhanger predicament, and speculation about who might rescue him. We spend most of the conversation on Lanterns Season 3, Episode 3, a John Stewart-focused origin story that introduces his family’s role, themes around fear, discipline, and race, Laura Linney’s character, and the twist that Hal Jordan and Stewart may be set against each other via Sinestro. We also recommend the cinema verité bullfighting documentary Afternoons of Solitude and discuss the rom-com One Night Only’s implausible premise, plus upcoming plans for Mob Land’s return and Apple TV’s Last Seen.
'Furious' Season Finale: “Hart Island” (and Season 2 Announcement) + Upcoming Show Coverage
Season 24 · Episode 12
Monday, August 31, 2026 • Duration 01:09:44
In this episode of Need Some Introduction, we break down the season one finale of Furious, “Heart Island,” and react to Hulu renewing the series for season two—apparently decided early enough that the writers’ room is already underway. We discuss why the finale works as both a season and potential series ending, balancing grim subject matter with humor, suspense, and emotional closure while leaving major threads open. We unpack key plot reveals and character turns, including the DNA match pointing to Emma, the confrontation at the family house, Catherine’s recovered memory that she mercy-killed her friend, and the show’s ongoing focus on complicity and cover-ups. We also talk through the fallout (Marshall’s “hero” narrative, Catherine jailed and married to Alden, Alice’s unsettling final beat) and speculate on a season two direction involving the video download list and Alice’s possible vigilante path. We close by previewing upcoming podcast coverage, including The Dispatcher/Last Call next, and War in October, with Darren and I also covering Lanterns and Mob Land.
