Necropolis is my new podcast where I interview interesting people from all spectrums of extreme metal. Being that I am an outlier in the metal scene (I’m not in any metal bands), I feel that I present a musician’s perspective without being involved with the industry too much. The first episode was conducted with the immensely talented Jesse Jolly from BlightMass, Amon, After Death, Crimson Massacre, Diabolic, Blastmasters, Lull Me To Larvae, Promethean Horde, etc. We discussed his background in-depth with him starting out as just a kid from the hills of Tennessee to someone who has been called ‘the future of metal’ by George Fisher (Corpsegrinder) from Cannibal Corpse. This episode is a must-hear for people interested in what the general Tampa death metal scene is like.

Metal is notorious for the sheer volume of subgenres that seem to spring up every year. In this episode, we analyse how many of them are real, or whether they are simply different descriptors for the same phenomenon.

Currently, his musical journey continues with Shadow Legion, a new venture that showcases his virtuosity once again, encompassing a wide range of styles beyond traditional death metal. Operating under the banner of "Dark Metal," this Shadow Legion synthesis brings together elements of epic heavy metal, death metal, and black metal.

In this episode, we delve into Malone's latest project, Shadow Legion, and explore the short-lived project of Omneity. During our discussion, we also navigate the history of Diabolic, addressing the unfortunate emergence of a fraudulent iteration of the band name spawned by a former percussionist who had been ousted from the ranks. A graduate from the Royal Conservatory of Liège in Belgium (1st prize organ, 1st prize harmony, 1st prize history of music, 1st prize musical analysis); Sébastien Letocart is a self-taught composer, who has built his musical equally by studying ancient music (i.e. Josquin Desprez, William Byrd, Tomas Luis Vitoria, Roland de Lassus, Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck, Claudio Monteverdi, Dietrich Buxtehude, Johann Sebastian Bach), practicing it (organ, harpsichord and singing) as well as analyzing the great scores of the Classical Symphony (Haydn, Mozart), the Romantic (Beethoven, Schumann, Brahms, Dvořák, Bruckner), the Post-romantic (Debussy, Roussel, R.Strauss, Mahler, Sibelius, Nielsen) and the symphonic repertoire of the first half of the 20th century (Bartók, Hindemith, Stravinsky, Shostakovich, Bax, Vaughan Williams, Holst, Walton, Honegger, Martinu, Varèse). He is also highly interested in the music of the last sixty years, his preferences are going from György Ligeti, Iannis Xenakis or Esa-Pekka Salonen to Einar Englund, Aulis Sallinen, Emil Tabakov, Kalevi Aho, Vagn Holmboe, John Adams, Sir Malcolm Arnold or Sir Andrzej Panufnik.
