The Alex Jones Factor 1 Part A
mercredi 28 mai 2025 • Duration 59:49
In this week’s show we are honored to have again our expert on scientific knowledge and inquiry, Brian Dunning. The host of “Skeptoid: Critical Analysis of Pop Media” he shares about how conspiracy shows are supporting flawed thinking for people who already have preconceived notions about some topics. We call this episode “The Alex Jones Factor” as many similar conspiracy theorists and “entertainers” have sprung up all over the AM radio. One of these programs is “Ground Zero with Clyde Lewis” who in their February 6, 2019 show discussed racist and destructive ideas such as the so called invasion of Muslims and Chinese from Canada and the coming race war pushed by supremacists. We also discuss Mr. Dunning’s confrontation with Joe Rogan after writing a report on how Rogan was part of the "Then Most Wanted: Celebrities who Promote Harmful Pseudoscience" and how these shows will say anything to get ratings being irresponsible and sensationalistic.
Brian Dunning is an American writer and producer who focuses on science and skepticism. He has hosted a weekly podcast, Skeptoid since 2006, and he is an author of a series of books on the subject of scientific skepticism, some which are based on the podcast.

Kanye West's "Heil Hitler" Song Review (A More Excellent Way Monthly Report)
mardi 20 mai 2025 • Duration 32:37
In this week's show we discuss the disgusting new song by "Ye" aka Kanye West called "Heil Heitler". In our a monthly rant we delve into the reasons why Russell Brand and others are supporting this vitriol against the Jews.
"The song features a synth-heavy and orchestral instrumental, including marching band styled drums during its bridge. For the hook, West and his group the Hooligans chant "All my niggas Nazis, nigga, heil Hitler." West's first verse details the current state of his life, including his custody battle and the freezing of his assets, using them as justification for why he "became a Nazi". The song ends with a sample taken from a 1935 Adolf Hitler speech. The speech is in German, and translates to:
"If you consider the work I'm doing to be right, if you think I have been diligent, that I have worked, that I have advocated for you this year, that I have spent my time honestly in the service of my people, then cast your vote! If so, then stand up for me like I have stood up for you!""

MLK's Letter from a Birmingham Jail Reading and Reflection
mercredi 19 février 2025 • Duration 19:17
"Letter from a Birmingham Jail [King, Jr.]"16 April 1963
My Dear Fellow Clergymen:
While confined here in the Birmingham city jail, I came across your recent statement calling my present activities "unwise and untimely." Seldom do I pause to answer criticism of my work and ideas. If I sought to answer all the criticisms that cross my desk, my secretaries would have little time for anything other than such correspondence in the course of the day, and I would have no time for constructive work. But since I feel that you are men of genuine good will and that your criticisms are sincerely set forth, I want to try to answer your statement in what I hope will be patient and reasonable terms.I think I should indicate why I am here in Birmingham, since you have been influenced by the view which argues against "outsiders coming in." I have the honor of serving as president of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference, an organization operating in every southern state, with headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia. We have some eighty five affiliated organizations across the South, and one of them is the Alabama Christian Movement for Human Rights. Frequently we share staff, educational and financial resources with our affiliates. Several months ago the affiliate here in Birmingham asked us to be on call to engage in a nonviolent direct action program if such were deemed necessary. We readily consented, and when the hour came we lived up to our promise. So I, along with several members of my staff, am here because I was invited here. I am here because I have organizational ties here. But more basically, I am in Birmingham because injustice is here. Just as the prophets of the eighth century B.C. left their villages and carried their "thus saith the Lord" far beyond the boundaries of their home towns, and just as the Apostle Paul left his village of Tarsus and carried the gospel of Jesus Christ to the far corners of the Greco Roman world, so am I compelled to carry the gospel of freedom beyond my own home town. Like Paul, I must constantly respond to the Macedonian call for aid. Moreover, I am cognizant of the interrelatedness of all communities and states. I cannot sit idly by in Atlanta and not be concerned about what happens in Birmingham. Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly. Never again can we afford to live with the narrow, provincial "outside agitator" idea. Anyone who lives inside the United States can never be considered an outsider anywhere within its bounds. You deplore the demonstrations taking place in Birmingham. But your statement, I am sorry to say, fails to express a similar concern for the conditions that brought about the demonstrations. I am sure that none of you would want to rest content with the superficial kind of social analysis that deals merely with effects and does not grapple with underlying causes. It is unfortunate that demonstrations are taking place in Birmingham, but it is even more unfortunate that the city's white power structure left the Negro community with no alternative. In any nonviolent campaign there are four basic steps: collec

Reimagining Boundaries: Jewish and Christian Identity in Late Antiquity
Season 7
vendredi 11 mars 2022 • Duration 01:00:50
In this week's show our guest is Rabbi Dr. Juan Marcos Bejarano Gutierrez author of Reimagining Boundaries: Jewish and Christian Identity in Late Antiquity.
In the eighth century, a debate between Sergius the Stylite and a Jew occurred. The discussion was conveniently titled, Debate against a Jew. It records arguments about the relevance of biblical texts to Christians and the Jewish people. The anti-Jewish perspectives of Sergius are not surprising. The response given by his Jewish interlocutor is, however. The Jew noted that he was surprised by the number of Christians who attended his synagogue, contributed to it, and celebrated various Jewish holidays alongside Jews.
What does this tell us? It shows us that the boundaries between Jews and Christians even as late as the 8th century were permeable at the very least and ill-defined at the most extreme. The anti-Jewish polemics of Melito of Sardis in the second century or John Chrysostom in the fourth century are heartfelt. Regardless of how vile they are, they reflect something very significant.
The Church’s consistent attack on Jewish practices and theology was reflective of a simple fact. The Jewish tradition was sufficiently strong to interest curious Christians who were most certainly familiar with the anti-Jewish sentiments of medieval Christianity but saw in the living presence of Jews among them a very different portrait of the people of the Bible and their continued appeal.
Judaism and Christianity as we know them today, and this is the crucial point, i.e., today did not exist in the first centuries of the Common Era in the same form. This is not to say that people did not recognize near-universal Jewish observances, i.e., the Sabbath, the lighting of candles, beliefs, i.e., the election of Israel, etc., or even nascent Christian rituals. But the fully developed theological systems and the boundaries of these entities did not exist in the same way they did in later periods of history.
With that being said, this work seeks to address the problem of Jewish and Christian identity from various perspectives. What follows are a series of what I call semi-independent essays discussing the nexus between these two evolving religious systems. These essays seek to challenge the reader to consider alternative approaches to identity and consider that beliefs and the impositions of later views partly formulate our assumptions about groups on either side of the supposed divide. That is not to say that Jews and Christians were nebulous entities characterized by “open borders” to use a contentious modern-day term. Instead, there were groups whose responses to each other were partly formed by theological, regional, cultural, and perhaps even economic considerations.
A major focus of this work is the Clementine Literature as a reflective of a community that found itself in between the communities we now recognize as Judaism and Christianity.
