On February 11th, I hosted a heartfelt live session on YouTube, Facebook, and Patreon, commemorating the 12th anniversary of Whitney Houston's passing. During this special event, viewers were treated to unique insights and reminiscences, including an interview with John, a devoted Whitney fan who happened to be staying at the Beverly Hilton Hotel, the very place where Whitney spent her final moments. John graciously even gave us a glimpse outside of the hotel room Whitney stayed in.

Additionally, we were honored to have Tiffanie Dixon, Whitney and Bobbi Kristina's former hairstylist for seven pivotal years, join us as a surprise guest. Tiffanie's anecdotes and reflections on her time with Whitney captivated us for nearly two hours, offering an intimate glimpse into the beloved icon's life. 

As the podcast stretched over four hours, Michelle Lawson, one of our dedicated listeners, humorously shared that she managed to repaint her entire bedroom during the broadcast. While such lengthy sessions may not be sustainable for regular programming, I relish the opportunity to gather for special occasions like this.

Several years ago, I had the distinct privilege of conducting an interview with Gary Michael Houston, who happens to be the nephew of the iconic Whitney Houston. Gary is the son of Whitney's brother, Michael, and her sister-in-law, Donna Houston.

Hailing from the heart of South Plainfield, New Jersey, Gary Michael Houston was born into a family steeped in musical tradition. His lineage boasts a remarkable musical legacy, with one illustrious figure standing out—the beloved and legendary pop icon, his late great aunt, and cherished mentor, Whitney Houston.

As the eldest grandson of gospel sensation Cissy Houston, Gary was immersed in the world of music from a very tender age. His upbringing allowed him to forge a profound connection not only with the art of music but also with the intricate workings of the music industry itself.

With a shared foundation in gospel music that has evolved into the diverse realms of pop and his current genre, hip-hop, Gary's journey has taken him through the inner workings of the entertainment industry at the highest echelons. In his own words, 'I've been crafting music for as long as I can remember.'"

From the tender age of 4, Gary embarked on a relentless pursuit of his passion. His nurturing environment and supportive family have been the bedrock of his transformation into a versatile and accomplished performing artist. Throughout the years, he has unveiled a series of musical creations, including three highly successful independent projects collectively known as 'Corruption 1-3' and a compelling compilation mixtape.

Gary's unwavering belief echoes loudly: 'You can be anything you want to be.' He fervently encourages individuals to dare to be different, to defy society's attempts at pigeonholing. His mission is crystal clear: 'I want people who listen to my music to experience this diversity firsthand. I aim to change lives, not just minds.' Gary refuses to conform to anyone else's expectations, choosing instead to be an authentic reflection of his true self.

I got a chance to meet Gary along with Nick Gordon in LA at the Beverly Hilton.

My very first one-on-one celebrity interview in Los Angeles took place with none other than the incomparable Miki Howard. We engaged in conversation after her electrifying performance at The Catalina Jazz Club on Sunset. It marked my maiden live experience of her on stage, and the excitement of discussing music, life, and her illustrious career with her post-show was truly unparalleled.

This rendezvous occurred around the time when Miki's episode of 'Unsung' had made its debut on TV One. While I've had the privilege of interviewing Miki on subsequent occasions, nothing quite compares to that initial encounter. It was an unforgettable and exhilarating experience.

Miki has a song called Beer for Breakfast and I bought her hot sauce and beer as a gift to the interview. She loved it!

Her talent is so transcendent that she has the unique ability to make you both adore and despise her, depending on the character she's portraying. Who could forget her in the hilarious 'Jackie's Back'? And who could help but loathe her in 'What's Love Got To Do With It,' starring Angela Bassett, or 'Not Easily Broken,' alongside Taraji P. Henson?
