Sheridan 'We Blog Any Car' : Dad was a mechanic. Homework at a main dealer workshop. Vauxhall Viva, Audi 100, Cavalier, Mk1 Golf, Fiat 131 S4E10 03 Sep 202400:56:53

Send us a text

Join us for a great chat with Sheridan from We Blog Any Car for a trip down memory lane.
It starts with his Dad's Vauxhall Viva in bright metallic green (with the obligatory vinyl roof), and in juxtaposition, his colleagues and customers Audi 100s with their 5 cylinder engines.
His Dad didn't drive fast (whilst listening to country music or Boney-M on his Pioneer radio cassette with electric aerial) but he was fond of a wheelspin in the wet, and once tried to race a Mazda RX7...
After the Viva came a brown Mk2 Cavalier saloon, which he later 'facelifted' with parts from work. A bit like the 'One bit at a time' song by Jonny Cash.

Much to our joy, the Citroen BX comes up in discussion, belonging to a teacher at school. Likewise a Mk1 Golf GTI with which the keys were trusted to Sheridan to go and retrieve things by his teacher, should any school stuff be left inside during lessons.

Talk then changes to suggestions for classic cars and investment cars of the future. The Mk1 Audi TT is Andy's choice, Sheridan albeit with bias is backing the Alfa GTV and Spyder of the late nineties.
We discuss what cars need to have or not have to make the cut, and we feel part of this is a lack of availability, perhaps having fallen out of favour or been a bit rubbish when first available. The MG ZR or the Proton Satria GTI might just make the mark.

We hope you enjoy this episode (one of our longest to date) and if you do, please consider supporting us by buying a coffee or donating on a monthly basis.

Sally Alington: London Safari in a 2CV, a Mini Van, my Mum's Taxi, Keys left in ignition, a free Porsche and Ford Mustangs! S4E920 Aug 202400:44:22

Send us a text

We're joined for this episode by Andy's cousin Sally Alington. By day she is the Founder and CEO of Ethos Farm and high flying business woman, at the weekends she loves going for a drive in her Ford Mustang... A car that was not at all influenced by her parents choices, except perhaps for the fact they named her Sally!

Expect stories of matresses in the back of Mini vans, a Citroen 2CV with a roll back roof (which Sally and her brother Luke would stand up and look out through).
There's talk of a carpet cleaning business (hence the mini Van) and Sally's Mum Angela gets lots of airtime, having previously worked as a London Taxi Driver.

Her Nan is also a key part to this episode, choosing to leave her keys in her car so she wouldn't lose them in the house - in fact leaving them in the ignition, but hiding them behind a winter glove!

Lastly we finish on tales of holiday hire cars, a free Porsche wedding car and a Business Class day trip to New York with her Dad for her 13th birthday.

We hope you enjoy this one, and please leave us a review if you do.

Dave Carey: Brock Director, Personal plates, Robbing a service station to pay for racing and more! S4E207 May 202400:40:27

Send us a text

This week we're joined by Dave Carey from Adelaide in Australia!
Yep! The good work we have been doing has trickled down under, and we're gathering some momentum, which attracted motoring journalist and petrol head Dave to get in touch with us.
Dave's father passed away when he was just over 5 years old, but he still has some strong memories of his car, he also recalls his Mums car, and their matching number plates.
Conversation also covers an ex partner of his Mum's who robbed a service station to fund his motorsport season, and a kid at his school who's parents owned one of only a handful of Brock Directors.
We may be more used to home grown saloons than Holden Utes, but this conversation proved that these memories and good story telling will survive, even if told from another continent.
Thanks again Dave for coming on - our first truly international guest, dialing in from overseas.
Enjoy!
Andy and Jon

Steve Waddingham: Working at Dad's garage, Grandad was a chauffeur in a Morris Minor, Aston Martin, Allegro and more. S4E123 Apr 202400:39:31

Send us a text

The first episode of Season 4 really sets the bar high (but panic not, we've got some great guests waiting in the wings too), Steve Waddingham is the official company historian for none other than Aston Martin Lagonda, but when he's not researching old colour names, and digging out race cars from dusty barns, he's behind the wheel of his own Austin Allegro! Yep... you read that right!
We talk about his Father's Austin Cambridge, him working at his Dad's garage fixing cars. His Grandad who was a chauffeur, but typically drove a Morris Minor not a Daimler like everyone else - at the request of his employer!
Think you're gonna love this one!

Bonus Episode: Many guests! Plenty of your earliest car memories and reflection from the NEC Practical Classics Restoration Show02 Apr 202400:39:21

Send us a text

Jon and Andy went wild in the halls of the NEC with the newly acquired podcasting machine (thanks coffee buyers..) gathering together a wonderful and eclectic collection of earliest car memories from many different show goers.
The quality is ok considering we recorded these stood up surrounded by hundreds of other people talking! So go easy on the critique!
If you were one of the 'lucky' people we spoke to - thanks so much for your time, we really appreciate it.
Normal service will resume with Season 4 kicking off soon. But for now, enjoy these little nuggets!

Russell Quirk: Dad had a new car every few months... His Porsche 911 didn't last a week! E-Type, Aston Martin, Escort RS2000, Rolls Royce S3E1026 Mar 202400:49:24

Send us a text

Jon and Andy are joined by Russell Quirk who recalls countless tales of his Dad's cars.
He reckons his Dad swapped cars every 6 months, and we're not just talking old Ford Escorts (although he had an RS2000) we're talking E-Types, Aston Martin's, Rolls Royces, TVR, Porsche and more.
Russell's Dad was an Estate Agent in Essex, and liked to show off a little as to how successful he was. In later life he got into Car Dealerships, and was known as Mazda Man due to his brand allegiance.
Russell's proudest tale is the story of tracking down the personalised number plate that used to be worn by his father's Aston Martin V8 Vantage, until, one day when he came home from work without it, as it had been sold... with the 4 digit plate GO 92.
Many years later Russell chanced upon the plate for sale and simply had to buy it!
So it now lives on one of his own cars in tribute to his late father.
We hope you enjoy this one as much as all the others. A big thanks to Russell for coming on to talk with us.

Helen Stanley: James Bond, Noel Gallagher, 405 Mi16, BMW E36, and the latest online car buying experience S3E912 Mar 202400:32:42

Send us a text

Jon and Andy welcome Helen Stanley to My Dad's car this week. She may be familar to some of you having graced our TV screens on Goblin Works Garage and Motor Pickers to name but a few.
These day's Helen is working as an artist - check out her pop art here: helenstanleyofficial.com
Helen also hosts a podcast with her cousin, called Cars of the Macabre - take a listen in all the usual places.
Discussion on her own car influence starts with toys, and then builds into a love of watching James Bond with her Dad.
Her Dad had a few cool cars, a Peugeot 405 Mi16 and an E36 BMW 3 series. He also owned a classic Mini back when they were just regular cars... A vehicle Helen would love to own in the future.
On top of discussions about Helen's TV work, Andy also pitches the idea of Part-X, a new classifieds service aimed at bringing back the joy of the acronym and word limited for sale adverts.
We were most grateful to Helen for coming on - to date probably our 'most famous' guest. We hope you enjoy this episode as much as we did recording it.

Steve Holden: Holiday breakfasts at Little Chef and Mum's XR3i Cabriolet Christmas present! S3E827 Feb 202400:30:24

Send us a text

Andy and Jon are joined by Steve Holden, a friend of Andy's whom he knows through classic VW ownership.
The discussion kicks off with Steve's Mum's Datsun Cherry Coupe, before talk turns to a Morris Marina Van, and a love in for the Renault 9 - which led Steve to buy a Renualt 19 later in life.
Steve's Dad surprised his mum with an Escort XR3i Cabriolet one Christmas, he'd hidden it in the garage the week before, but the marks on the grass almost gave the game away.
Being a hands on Dad (having built his own house) there was a Dumper Truck in the garden that Steve learnt to drive in. His Dad would also help with mechanical repairs, lowering modifications and even a full engine swap on an aging Rover.
Another great episode which really captures the magic of the subject.

Bonus Episode: Jon and Andy are off to the Practical Classics Show at the NEC20 Feb 202400:06:26

Send us a text

After pulling a few strings (and featuring Danny Hopkins, the editor of Practical Classics in a previous episode) Andy and Jon have secured media passes for the show on Sunday 24th March, and will be wandering the halls of the NEC in a bid to meet as many people as possible.
On top of that, equipped with the crowd funded Zoom Podtrak machine, there will be the potential to record some audio for another episode whilst there too.

Add into the mix of this bonus, a discussion on the Bromley Pageant of Motoring, a Christmas day car show in London and Porsche 911 Targa that left a lasting impression with Jon's eldest half brother.

Hope you enjoy this short and sweet bonus episode. Normal service resumes next week.

Lewis Warren from Takona: My Dad's Cars - 205GTI, Toyota Celica, Audi TT, E46 M3, 996 Turbo. S3 E713 Feb 202400:40:05

Send us a text

Jon and Andy are joined by Takona founder Lewis Warren to discover what got him into cars... Fortunately for us, the blame lies very firmly at his Father's door, and there's a string of decent cars indicating why.
However, it wasn't a car thing for his Dad really, after the 205 GTI and the Toyota Celica, cars became an accessory for work. The Audi TT was the sportiest car available on the company car scheme, and as a Financial Advisor, the vehicles became an identity, and a way to demonstrate knowledge in investment, rather than a hobby.
There are some great tales, including a roadtrip to Spain in the TT with his brother, with just a Country and Western CD for entertainment... There might be a bit of travel sickness too!

Takona, as Lewis explains is a clothing brand aimed at getting car enthusiasts talking, and talking about their mental health. We'd love you to look him up www.takona.co.uk or check out the Takona Tlks podcast with a string of great guests, including recently, Jonny Smith and Richard Porter aka Smith and Sniff.

Charles Clegg from Custodian: A Bristol catching fire, Ferrari with a 'back seat' and Range Rovers. S3E630 Jan 202400:50:28

Send us a text

Andy and Jon are joined by Charles Clegg, Co-Founder and CEO of Custodian, a car management app, designed for car collectors and enthusiasts.
The story begins for Charles with a pair of Bristols... (oooh eer misses). One that he miraculously identified from his pushchair, the second belonging to his Mother, which after 20 years of ownership, met a fiery end parked in Knightsbridge, causing shop evacuations and road closures.
Later on discussion turns to a Ferrari, in grey, bought new by Charles father, and he would travel on a small shelf behind the front seats!
As he grew, he was afforded the luxury of Range Rovers, with arm rests both in the centre and the side of the rear bench. Clearly paving the way for what Charles comically calls a 'masochistic' relationship with the classic 4x4.

Naturally, there is also lots of talk around the benefits of the Custodian platform, what it can do, and excitingly we manage to discover what is in store too...
Please do check it out (we're not being paid for this.. we think it is cool)

In their words…
"Loving your car is easy. Owning it isn’t.
Meet Custodian, the free platform that simplifies car ownership. Create a digital garage, protect your car's history, schedule tasks, browse a specialist car marketplace, and manage your insurance - all in one convenient place.”

Martin "Chuff" Wall: My Dad's Cars just had to make it through another MOT. Ford Cortinas, Tiny Caravans, Camping, BMX and old Volkswagens S3E516 Jan 202400:37:23

Send us a text

Andy and Jon are joined by Chuff, from Well Chuffed Media. He's an automotive photographer by trade, and Andy's had the pleasure of his professional company (that sounds a bit sordid) on a number of photoshoots with work.
Talk starts with Chuff's cousin's Mk2 Golf GTI, then moves into a string of Ford Cortina's, takes in a full list, made in conjunction with his Mum, and rounds up with mention of VW campers, and Volkswagen Jettas too.

Jamie Orr: My Dad's Company Car was a Lotus Elise! Minis, Metros, Grandparents Scirocco Storm S4E806 Aug 202400:48:00

Send us a text

Jamie Orr joins us for a chat about all things automotive from his younger years. Growing up in Scotland there were Minis, Metros and Ford Sierras. Later on, he moved down south and was taught to drive at the legendary TRL (home of GTI International).
His Dad used to restore motorbikes in a high rise flat, had a manual lathe from a submarine, and bought a Lotus Elise as his company car! But both of his parents are petrol heads - now driving a VW Beetle and Mk4 Golf with BBS alloys!

We touch on the DVLA in Swansea, how this may have been a 'gift' from the Government in lieu of closing the coal mines. In fact the DVLA was formed in Swansea in 1965 and the mines closed in the 1980's but it was a nice theory!

We also speak about how Jamie got into VWs (his grandparents Scirocco Storm may have been a slight influence) but he bought his first when he moved to the USA.
We hope you enjoy these tales and many more in this great episode.

Send us a text

Recorded a few days before Christmas, Jon and Andy discuss the closing of a chapter... It revolves largely around the sale of Jon's E39 5 Series, whether he will get another, and the process behind picking a CD to leave behind, as a token... Sam Grange Bailey: My Dad's Car Dealership. Rod Stewart's Miura, and Mum driving a Rolls through the garage door into a Gullwing Mercedes! S3E402 Jan 202400:39:02

Send us a text

Andy and Jon are joined by Sam from Southern Cars in Manchester, a classic car dealership originally started by Sam's father 50 years ago.
From Ferrari's and Lamborghini's in the garden, to the chinese-eye Rolls Royce Cloud 3 that was the one he'd never sell... Although Sam's Mum did drive it through a garage door into the back of a Mercedes Gullwing one Christmas, and her parents didn't speak until Easter!!
This is a great journey through the world of car sales in the days gone, and how the classic car market has evolved to be internet based, with no need for a showroom in the modern day.
We're sure you'll enjoy this one!

Dan Rees: "Sorry I'm the worst person you could get on.." Minis, VW Polos, Comedy car names and minibus driving S3 E319 Dec 202300:36:53

Send us a text

Jon and Andy are joined today by Dan Rees.
Dan is a friend of Andy's brother, and a jewelry designer by trade, he's also a dab hand at You Tube and Tik Tok, and a budding stand up comedian too.
By his own admission, early on Dan tells us that he's the worst guest we could get on, but that doesn't stop the chat, or the laughs...
Lots of silliness, stories about his brothers Mini, and later a Hearse, chasing would be car thieves with a screw driver,  and his Mums Polo getting pulled out a ditch by some Rugby players!
The tangent kicks in quite early as Dan recalls a run of his own cars, each with some wonderful names, many of which met their fate at the scrap yard after letting Dan down in service!
Lastly we enjoy tales from Dan's time in Australia, certainly not on topic, but being a brilliant story teller we couldn't bare to cut it out the edit!

Hope you enjoy this one as much as we did recording it.

Jon and Andy are joined by Adam Townley for this episode. Adam isn't a personal friend but made some comments on social media, and they indicated there might be a story to be told!
Instinct was right and the discussion weaves from a buckaroo BSA that used to throw Adam's Dad off... It was retired from duty in 1981 and hasn't seen the road since.
There's talk of Saabs, then Vauxhalls, including the popular Nova SR... not your typical choice for a family holiday or a booze cruise to France, but somehow Adam's folks managed both with him and his brother wedged in by wine in the back!
Later on Adam's Mum was given the luxury of an Astra estate, and then a 5 door Corsa. Adam's Dad has just given up driving, but he's picked up the Mini Cooper ready for his Daughter to start driving next year...
Hope you enjoy this one, and if you are listening thinking I have a story like that, please get in touch!

Jill Miller: My Dad's Land Rover, Vintage Lorry Collection and Farming Tales. Season 2 Episode 924 Oct 202300:37:40

Send us a text

Jon and Andy are joined by Jill Miller, a lady Andy has met through running a Porsche enthusiast group.
Intrigued by a social media post, he reached out and invited her onto the show. With a background in Porsches it wasn't the episode they were expecting, but it was great none the less.
Talk of a Land Rover called Mickey Mouse, a vintage Lorry collection including Bedford O Types and Austins from Cater, Paterson and Pickford.
Talk also takes in Jill's fondness for Ford Fiestas and also of course, her Porsche infatuation too.
We'd also like to say Happy Birthday to Jill's Dad who would have been 88 today (the day we dropped this episode) had he still been alive.
Hope you enjoy it!

Bonus Episode: We will be appearing at the NEC Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show in November!30 Jul 202400:11:10

Send us a text

Yep! You read that right, we will be appearing in the all new Podcast Lounge on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th November at the NEC Classic Motor Show.

(Yes, this should have been a full episode this week, but this news needed to be shared!)

We were over the moon to be asked to take part and we have been named alongside Auto Alex and Driven as podcasts which will be appearing in the recent press release sent out by the organisers.'
To say we're excited is an understatement - we had a great time at this venue earlier in the year when we recorded a fabulous bonus episode, so the chance to do that, and also appear in front of an audience doing what we do is simply wonderful!

Stay tuned - we've been promised a discount code for tickets, and potentially even a pair to give away to one lucky listener!

Normal service will renew next week with another fantastic full episode.

Rob Mitchell. I was in a car with Colin Chapman, and got kicked out F1 garage by Frank Williams! S2 E810 Oct 202300:45:16

Send us a text

Andy and Jon have the pleasure of talking with Andy's friend Rob Mitchell.
Rob was an only child, but lucky enough to go on some fantastic motoring days out and weekends away with his car mad Dad.
From crewing for a Porsche 356 racer, including getting a ride in a 550 Spyder and a 911 2.7RS through to sitting in a car with Colin Chapman and being kicked out off an F1 pit garage by the legendary Sir Frank Williams!
Road car wise we take in Mk1 Escorts, Lotus Cortinas, 3 door Cortina, Porsche 356, Porsche 944, Mk2 Golf GTI and a Ford Capri 3.0.
Rob finishes things off by suggesting he may take his 87 year old Dad to the Mercedes dealership at the weekend for one last hurrah, before he hangs up his driving gloves for good... C63 AMG? Yeah... Do it!!
This episode was a joy to record, an epic to edit (10 hours+) but one of the best yet. We hope you enjoy it, and please do share it!

Edd Little: My Dad's Golf GTI, My Grandad's Mk1 Escort, and why you should wear driving gloves?! S2 E726 Sep 202300:35:59

Send us a text

Jon and Andy are joined by Edd Little, one half of B_Road Hunting Club and co-owner of B_Road at The Stag, a destination for petrol heads in a converted pub in Challock, Kent.

Chat starts with a Mk1 Escort, and Edd's Grandfather. It takes in applying go faster stripes to his Father's Mk1 Golf GTI... And we ask the killer question, did they work?!

Edd got into cars late, but hasn't messed about trying to catch up. In fact with over 125 V5s passing through his hands, he's lapped most of us several times over when it comes to ownership statistics (they aren't always the best cars though...)

Driving gloves, yeah, we talk about those too - After owning a Porsche 986 Boxster and covering 6,000 top down miles, Edd followed in his Grandfathers wheel tracks and wore driving gloves for the first time in his life. He also, just like his Grandad, enjoys the sounds of Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra, just not in the car, as his Morgan 3 wheeler doesn't have a radio!

Hope you enjoy this one, and be sure to check out B_Road at the Stag if you are in the area.

As always, please get in touch if you have a story you'd like to share - maybe it's not a full episodes worth, but you'd like to share just 5 minutes of motoring memories?

Chat moves onto a Montego with rear facing seats in the boot, then a VW Caravelle which was the perfect road trip vehicle.
Things finish off with some BMW chatter and a love in for the Caterham!

Lee Sibley. My Dad's Van... Cross continent towing on a rope, roadside resprays and more. Season 2 Episode 529 Aug 202300:40:00

Send us a text

Jon and Andy are joined by Porsche journalist Lee Sibley (9werks Radio, 9Werks TV and Total 911) to chat about his Dad's cars... Or, as it turns out, his Dad's Vans.
Despite living in Essex, his Dad had a penchant for commercial Mazda's rather than the typical Ford Transit that was produced locally.
Lee recalls travelling down to Barcelona whilst the World Cup was on, and breaking down.
Later on, his Dad breaks down and calls a mate for recovery, and even flips a coin to barter the final price of a van he's already won on ebay.
A great discussion, we're pretty sure you are going to enjoy it - especially if you already follow Lee's work in print and online.
Please note, there are a couple of mild swear words in this episode.

ULEZ Expansion - Will Jon have to scrap his BMW?! Bonus Episode22 Aug 202300:07:55

Send us a text

Lots of bonus stuff recently, you lucky lot!!

With the ULEZ expansion just a week or two away Jon and Andy discuss the implications for someone who lives within the ULEZ expansion zone and is about to be charged for the pleasure of driving an older car.

Jon's 1998 BMW E39 5 series has nothing wrong with it, and it got us to Yorkshire and back in wonderful German comfort, but he's now faced with the reality of selling it, scrapping it, or storing it away and not knowing when he'll use it next.
Such a shame.

Jon and Andy discuss the process of how to appeal the classification of your vehicle and joke about using photoshop to amend the manufacturers data - DO NOT DO THIS!

They also touch on the vandalism of the ULEZ Cameras. Whilst both against this ULEZ expansion, we are not encouraging of vigilante behavior - DO NOT DO THIS!

If you would like to buy Jon's 5 series get in touch - mydadscarpodcast@gmail.com he might just sell it to you.

Max Newman: Dad chasing a Porsche at Isle of Man TT, Ginetta, Sylva Leader, Austin 7, Audi S2, Golf GTI, Citroen Dyane S4E716 Jul 202400:49:46

Send us a text

We are joined this week by Max Newman, a die hard car enthusiast and one third of the 9Werks Podcast team.
Max tells us about Citroen Dyanes, White Mk1 Golf L which his Mum got a speeding ticket in, Mk2 Golf GTI's driving to get the Michael Jackson Bad album, Phil Collins No Jacket Required and Philip Bailey Chinese Wall on casette.
There's plenty of kit car chat from Sylva Leaders to a Ginetta G33 - the very first in fact, a bright yellow machine which was test driven by CAR magazine, and his father later took to Isle of Man with him to watch the TT. There are Austin 7 specials sat in an Apple loft in Norfolk and an Audi S2 that Max wishes he'd saved from his Fathers neglect after the keys got lost.
It's another belter, and we really hope you enjoy it. It also marks 50 episodes since we began recording My Dad's Car.

Danny Hopkins, My Grandad’s Triumph 2000, Austin 1800 and 3 Litre, and Ford Cortina’s Season 2 Episode 3. 01 Aug 202300:46:55

Send us a text

Jon and Andy are joined by Danny Hopkins, the editor of Practical Classics Magazine! Wow! Someone famous! Danny and Andy have chatted before, and as a trained actor you can enjoy some wonderful story telling, including him working on cars with his Father, and his Grandfathers (twice Nobel prize nominated) Triumph 2000 which he later restored and repainted, except the patch of headliner above the drivers seat which is still stained and smells of his pipe smoke!
We jump into Austin Land Crabs, and Danny explains why they were so good, and Alec Issigonis' favourite car (over the Mini, no less!) We also touch on Austin 3 Litre, and later on a personal note a Triumph Spitfire Danny found in a barn, a Honda Insight and a twin turbo Mitsubishi GTO that's already earnt Danny a speeding ticket!

Mark Thompson, Fords, a smelly Scimitar and teaching Mum to drive. Season 2 Episode 104 Jul 202300:35:22

Send us a text

Jon and Andy are joined by Andy's friend Mark Thompson for the first episode of season 2.
Mark and Andy are friends through a shared interest in old VWs and Porsches.
The discussion starts with Mark's earliest car memory, a Reliant Scimitar that smelt of fuel, it then gets deep into old Fords: Mk2 Escorts, a Lotus Cortina, a Sierra Cosworth (or Cotsworlds, as his Grandad called it) and plenty of tales of his Mum and close calls with a tree and a closed garage door whilst learning to drive. His Grandparents get plenty of mentions and his Grandmother had a very special way of keeping her cars shiny...Pledge!
Hope you enjoy this one as much as we did recording it. It's packed with treats, you may even need to listen more than once.

Fathers Day Special 2023: 4 minutes of silliness with a 7 year old!17 Jun 202300:04:33

Send us a text

It seemed fitting to put a little something together in celebration of Fathers Day.
So here is a  very short and silly snippet of an interview Andy did with his 7 year old Daughter before the podcast became a real thing...
This was recorded in early February 2023, with no script, purely to test the equipment and the concept. It was quite funny, so it was kept for a special occasion!
Jon will be back with Andy for Season 2, with episode 1 dropping in early July.

Send us a text

Jon and Andy got in touch with Becca from The Passenger Seat Podcast feeling there had to be a story to tell. Becca, in her mid twenties, drives a Morris Minor every day and records a podcast from, yep, you've guessed it... The passenger seat.
What was it about her parents choice of cars that led her to skip the Corsa's and Kia's that her peers might choose and opt for and oldie instead.
A great discussion with reference to 1930s Singer Le Mans sportscars, saloons, Singer Vogue models from the late sixties, Riley Elf, Singer Chamois and Hillman Imp, and of course, Peggy, her own Morris Minor.
You can follow Becca's podcast on You Tube  (and the usual platforms) here: The Passenger Seat Podcast - YouTube

This is the tenth and last episode of season 1. We will be recording new conversations in the meantime, but plan to release Season 2 Episode 1 in July 2023.

Episode 9. Tim Crighton: Karting, Racing, Rovers, Golfs and Vans. 17 May 202300:46:26

Send us a text

Andy and Jon chat with an ex colleague of Andy's, Tim Crighton.
Tim grew up with his Dad running a race team, and competing around the country.
He was also lucky enough to benefit from his Dad starting a Kart circuit, which led him to get behind the wheel himself aged just 7.
Fast toward twenty something years from his debut in T cars and he's just competed at Goodwood Members Meeting in two different vehicles, much to his Dad's delight as "wire wheels and carburettors are best".
This discussion takes in a Rover 827, a couple of Mk2 Golf GTIs, a Scirocco, a Calibra and a few different vans as well.
It also gets philosophical, and dabbles with vehicle investments too. It's a gem!
We hope you enjoy it.

Jon and Andy are joined by Jon's good friend Ben Burns.
A few notes before we tell you what's in store.

  • We know Phil Collin's album was actually called No Jacket Required...
  • Ben's Dad is called Phil, but he's not Phil Collins
  • There are a couple of little sound glitches on Ben's recording, sorry about that.

Ben share's memories of a blue Ford Escort estate, racing his Grandparents in their Shogun to Saint-Tropez. The Escort was later replaced with a 1982 Rover SD1.
A few tales of Ben's own vehicles made it in to the episode too, a Vauxhall Nova, and a Harley that he bought without having a license!
Hope you enjoy it as much as we did making it - there's plenty of laughter!

Danny James: 4 in the back of a Capri, Collecting new cars at midnight, My Dad's Land Rovers. S4E602 Jul 202400:54:06

Send us a text

The first time we have done a full in person podcast, and it wasn't without its troubles... However, Danny James was a great guest, very accommodating in his workshop at home, and across two takes we managed to get all the audio and most of the video.

Yep! There's an actual video of this conversation.. Check it out here. https://youtu.be/zMJByStJ_Oc

Expect stories about a purple Ford Capri, with 4 kids in the back. Teddy Boy Fords, Land Rovers and buying brand new cars at midnight so you could have the latest registration letter in the morning.

A great chat, and one we are most grateful for having. We'd initially said we would do this back when we started, but Danny sadly lost his Dad, and we felt it best for him to take some time to get his thoughts in order first.

You can follow Danny on You Tube here: https://www.youtube.com/@UC3MYNNNXvAE57ZJ4RTHBnzg
Follow him on Instagram here for his model cars: https://www.instagram.com/blingatoys/
And here for his real cars: https://www.instagram.com/danstimelessclassics/

A big thanks to Andy's brother, Mike B Designs for assisting with the edit of the video.
Check him out for all your videograohy needs (he didn't film any of this btw...)

Episode 2. Rob Hill recalls his Dad's company cars. Citroen BX GTI, Toyota Celica and Boring Grey Cars!31 Mar 202300:23:11

Send us a text

Rob Hill is one of Andy's oldest friends (not in age, but the amount of time they have known each other.)
Rob agreed to come on the podcast to help Jon and Andy practice their craft, or discover where it was lacking.
The interview process was done via Zoom, and after a number of hours editing, chopping out the tangents, here it is... The first 'proper' episode of My Dad's Car.
Jon and Rob have met once before, ten years ago at Andy's stag do, although neither can recall it with any great clarity.

This episode covers topics including company cars, speeding and passenger safety.

Episode 1. A taster of what to expect from My Dad's Car. 21 Feb 202300:10:54

Send us a text

Andy Gregory and Jon Recknell host My Dad's Car, a new podcast discussing automotive nostalgia and the vehicles owned by significant people within your life.
In this episode they set the scene for what is to come, touch on why they started the podcast and put a few goals in place for dream guests too.

Andy and Jon are ex-work colleagues and have been friends for 20 years. Professionally both have worked in marketing within the automotive industry, and outside of work  both married with 2 young children.  Living in the South East of England, albeit 50 miles apart, these episodes will mostly be recorded remotely, and typically feature a guest on each one.

Whilst this isn't a podcast about 'dead Dads' both Andy and Jon have sadly lost their Fathers and will naturally discuss matters surrounding bereavement at times.

Due to the nostalgic nature of the podcast, subjects such as smoking around children and travelling without seat belts are also likely to crop up.
