Hosting podcast Buzzsprout

Join Andy and Jon, two friends who have discussions with invited guests about their personal relationships with automotive nostalgia and family history.

Each episode kicks off with us asking our guest “what’s your earliest car memory?”
From there it’s a journey back through time towards the modern day, but generally focusing on vehicles we remember from childhood.
We ask about siblings, neighbours, music, smells, smoking, breakdowns, selling, buying, accidents and more.

Despite the podcast title, we don’t discriminate against cars belonging to other people, such as Mum’s, Gran’s, Uncle’s, Aunts, friends, or even a neighbours.
If those cars made an impression, we want to talk about them.

Andy Plumb: Spotting Cars from a young age, caravan holidays, Posters of Sierras and 2CVs and being a Car Designer. S7E1

Season 7 · Episode 1

mardi 4 novembre 2025Duration 35:40

Send us Fan Mail

We’re joined by car designer and writer Andy Plumb for the first episode of the long awaited season 7.

Andy (host) wanted to be a car designer growing up so hearing from Andy Plumb as to how he made his dream a reality, was fascinating.

It turns out, writing a letter to Ford asking how he should make it happen; and Ford replying with a step by step guide was just what he needed!

We talk about Ford Sierras, Citroen 2cVs, Reliant Robin’s and the Morgan Super 3 and spotting cars on the motorway by just their headlights - a game our Andy used to play on long journeys too.

We hope you enjoy this one, and stay tuned for more great stories in Season 7.

Bonus Episode: Jonny Smith on lawn mowers and car washing

Season 6 · Episode 3

mardi 3 juin 2025Duration 06:50

Send us Fan Mail

We know you enjoyed the episode with Jonny Smith... so here's a little conversation we kept back for you to enjoy all about lawn mowers and car washing.

Jonny's first job was mowing lawns for neighbours, and as it happens, that is what Jon does for a day job too.

It's silly, its a little rough around the edges, but we hope you enjoy it!

Normal service resumes next week with another full episode.

Robbie Knox - Soccer AM: A mystery Citroen, a stolen Renault, Clown Cars, Marketing the Circus, Butlins and always leaving early. S6E5

Season 6 · Episode 5

mardi 27 mai 2025Duration 39:27

Send us Fan Mail

Our latest guest is the one and only Robbie Knox! If you’re familiar with @meggarobbie you probably first saw him on cult football morning show Soccer AM, but if you missed the 90s/00s he can now be found trading as an influencer extraordinaire.

Robbie was kind enough to spare us an hour or so as we attempted to pick his brains on all things cars and car nostalgia. Naturally this did veer away from cars rather a lot, including why Butlins is like Center Parcs without the trees. Circus marketing campaigns. And who has the hardest water in their area, Jon or Robbie?

Elliot Mitchell: My Dad was a previous guest (S2E8). Alfa Romeo, BMW, Porsche 356, Range Rover, XR3i Cabriolet S6E4

Season 6 · Episode 4

mardi 13 mai 2025Duration 37:38

Send us Fan Mail

A first for our podcast, an intergenerational episode, as we welcome Elliot Mitchell, who came to us after hearing his Dad on Season 2 Episode 8.

We had a great time on that one, and remained in contact with the family afterwards as Rob is a personal friend, so it made sense to hear what his eldest son had to say about his memories of cars growing up.

Some lovely tales of Grandparents, travelling to and from his Dad's after growing up living with his Mum - something Andy can relate closely too.

We hope you enjoy this one, and please do go and check out Rob's episode (S2E8) it's one of our most listened too!

Jonny Smith - Late Brake Show: Hillman Avenger, Mad-Maxi, Austin Allegro, Montego, Cavalier, New cars should be bright! S6E3

Season 6 · Episode 3

mardi 29 avril 2025Duration 56:32

Send us Fan Mail

It was a real pleasure to have Motoring Journalist, TV and You Tuber Jonny Smith join us for a full fat chat about cars of yesteryear.

His story starts with a couple of British classics. A Harvest Gold Austin Allegro belonging to his Grandparents, and a Hillman Avenger that his parents owned from 1979 to the late nineties, perhaps even beyond the millennium!

We take in an Austin Maxi with a ‘drink driver facelift’ which his Dad repaired overnight with piano wire, ready for work the next day.

There’s a Vauxhall Carlton, an honourable mention for the Mk2 Vauxhall Cavalier Estate (apparently built in Australia by Holden).

We also speak about a white Austin Rover Montego estate, why used car dealers have bunting, and more puzzlingly always leave the boot of a car open, when on display.

We finish things up with a chat about gifting books to schools, and incentivising car manufacturers painting their cars bright colours rather than ‘soviet grey’ or appliance white.

It goes without saying we recommend you take a listen to the wonderful Smith and Sniff Podcast, and check out The Late Brake Show on You Tube.

After a fantastic day out at the 82nd Members Meeting at Goodwood Motor Circuit, Andy is joined by his brother Mike for a chat about the event, and comparing it to the more mainstream Revival event.

Stuart Weaver: Dad cut up a priceless MG and threw it in the Thames! Mum's Fiat 500, MGA, MGBGT, Male Breast Cancer Awareness S6E2

Season 6 · Episode 2

mardi 15 avril 2025Duration 34:39

Send us Fan Mail

We're joined by Stuart Weaver for today's episode.

Recommended to us by previous guest, Jamie Orr's mum no less, Stuart is a survivor of male breast cancer, and met Sally Orr through her work in this field.

Stuart's parents have had their fair share of MG's - and some of them are still in the family now.

His Dad beat Adam Faith to a red MGA, and was due to use it as Stuart's wedding car. However, a ladder fell on it the night before, and it's never really be used since.

His Mum used to drive him around in a Fiat 500, but has had a couple of MG BGT's and currently there's a blue one on his parents drive awaiting re-commissioning.

We also touch on Stuart's history with breast cancer, and we urge you to take 2 minutes to check yourselves over, and report any suspicious lumps or discharges to your Doctor ASAP.

We should add, we're publishing this on April 15th, which by sheer fluke is Stuart's Dads birthday!!

We hope you enjoy this episode!

John Marcar from Driven Podcast: Mum's brown Cortina. Nissa Micra, Bluebird, Dad’s BMWs S6E1

Season 6 · Episode 1

mardi 1 avril 2025Duration 45:31

Send us Fan Mail

We're joined this week by John Marcar, the host and driving force behind the driven.site podcast, and website.

We met John up at the NEC at the end of last year, and whilst we didn't manage to sync our watches to record at the show, we sat down a few weeks later to have a proper chat.

From a chocolate brown Ford Cortina, to a K10 Micra, gifted to his Mum by his caring Auntie, to a Nissan Bluebird and his Father's access to exec level company cars through his work in a garage.

There was plenty to influence John, and help pave his way towards a career with cars.

We hope you enjoy this chat, and please also go and check out what John gets up to as well.

Bonus Episode: Give your Car Books to Schools NOT Charity Shops!

Season 5 · Episode 11

mardi 11 mars 2025Duration 13:11

Send us Fan Mail

Recently whilst clearing out my loft, I've found lots of old car books from when i was a kid.

Rather than take them to a charity shop, for another 40-something guy to buy for a quid and stash in his study, i chose to give them to my kids school, in the hope they might just inspire the next generation.

So, if you've got any old car books at home, please do the same - these kids (and our hobby) need your help.

This episode is a bonus. Season Six will commence on the 1st April 2025.
