Amanda Downing walked the Camino de Santiago at her own pace. She wrote to me to day if she were to write a book about her Camino it would be called 'The Slow Camino MY WAY!' Amanda shares her story of being able to shed her expectations, fulfil her hopes and finding and learning to love, Albergue Amanda. This episode is all about courage and having the courage to learn something new from old lessons. Erica Jong, the American novelist and poet wrote: "I have accepted fear as part of life — specifically the fear of change... I have gone ahead despite the pounding in the heart that says: turn back."

Nick Maione is a Brooklyn-based poet, educator and visual artist. His new book is called "Infinite Arrivals" and it takes the reader on a journey of discovery through words and language. Nick's great talent is weaving through his poems a narrative that takes the reader back to where the poem was formed, and on many of the pages of Infinite Arrivals, that place is el Camino de Santiago. American pilgrim Shoshana Kerewsky's written two books on the Camino: Cancer, Kintsugi, Camino: A Memoir; and 50 Days in May: Reflections along the Camino de Santiago. Shoshana calls herself a queer, Jewish-Buddhist atheist…so this was always going to be an interesting interview. And it is! Shoshana and I talk about her her life as a psychotherapist, her writing, her Camino AND her cancer. Her insight is astounding and her energy shines through every single word of the podcast. Enjoy. Andrew Jones is a pilgrim from South Australia. A devoted follower of Christ and family man, Andrew walked the Camino in 2023 to shed his skin, to unravel the layers he'd wrapped himself in, for years. The rain kept him humble, and his prayers and devotions kept him open to the gifts and joys of pilgrimage. This is a wonderful episode about courage, intuition and kindness. Eddie Gilmore and Yim Soon recently celebrated 32 years of marriage and raised a glass to their life of love in Santiago de Compostela after walking another Camino. They have walked pilgrimages all over the world, and have devoted their lives to spreading Christ's message of love through their work with the global fellowship of L'Arche. Australian pilgrims Carmen Velasco and Louise Wilsher walked the Camino finding time to cherish the culture and heritage of Spain. It was particularly poignant because Carmen was born in Spain and raised in Australia. Steven 'Spillano' Spillane is an Australian pilgrim who has been a dear friend of mine for 30+ years. Spillano walked with me in May on my magical musical Camino. His job was to call "Buen Camino' in the second last chorus at the end of Somewhere Along the Way, and he performed his duty with gusto. A true gentleman. Pure class.

The Way to St James Cygnet is an annual Camino in Tasmania, Australia. The two-day pilgrimage is Saturday the 11th and Sunday the 12th of January 2025. I'll be there to walk, talk and sing.  The other great aspect of this unique pilgrimage is a Global Camino is being held in conjunction with the Tasmanian walk, where no matter where you are around the world, you're invited to walk with us. Thomas Hall's new book is Of Soul and Storm: the search for peace is a mysterious thing.  It's Thomas taking the reader through the story of his life, from childhood abuse to fear at every turn while working for the US Dept of Homeland Security. He found peace on the Camino and revels in joy he now feels. Mick Pope wrote to me to say he was once a 23 stone drunk. He made a decision more than 20 years ago to change his mind....and change his life. He's been dry ever since. Mick has just completed his tenth Camino - walking to celebrate the ability to do so after making the right decision to get sober. This is a great episode about overcoming incredible odds to create a new future, one full of joy and light.....and pilgrimage.

Czarina Deldio decided to walk the Camino after surviving breast cancer....and her parents decided to accompany her to Spain. At the very last moment, just as Czarina and her mother were due to begin, something extraordinary occurred that would change all their lives forever. This is an incredible episode, I hope you'll hear and experience the love a family can share and how the Camino is the perfect place to climb whatever Everest you feel you need to.

Dan's younger sister Amanda walked as part of the Magical Musical Camino in May '24. Amanda didn't feel like she 'got' the Camino, but maybe, just maybe by the end she'd learned to be a little kinder to herself and to worry less and to take the time to slow down. A beautiful message for all of us this week. Slow down, life races by too fast.

Sarah Daley is an American pilgrim who runs yoga retreats on the Camino. Sarah was recently in Sydney and dropped by my house for a chat around the kitchen bench. This is a great story of learning to let go, of overcoming hardship and letting the Camino guide you to a softer, gentler more meaningful life. Husband and wife pilgrims, Simon Van Wyk and Linda Smith walked to Caminos a decade apart. When I asked them to give me one word that describes their pilgrimage, Simon said 'community' and Linda said 'joy'. You can tell by their energy and focus they've brought those two sentiments home with them.
