Muhammad Ghazali (full name Sheikh Muhammad al-Ghazali) was a highly influential Egyptian Islamic scholar, thinker, and writer, born in 1917. He passed away in 1996. While he was a prominent figure in Islamic thought and Dawa (preaching), and certainly recited the Quran as part of his life and teachings, he is not primarily known as a “Quran reciter” (Qari) in the same specialized sense as individuals whose main public role and legacy revolve around the art and performance of Quranic recitation. His extensive body of work primarily focused on Islamic jurisprudence, ethics, social issues, and Quranic exegesis. He pursued his education at Al-Azhar University in Egypt, graduating from the Faculty of Fundamentals of Religion. He dedicated his life to reforming Islamic thought and presenting Islam in a contemporary light. He held various positions, including Director of Islamic Call Department in Egypt, Director of the Mosque Department at the Ministry of Awqaf, and later served as the head of the Islamic Studies Department at Umm al-Qura University in Makkah. His legacy includes numerous books and lectures on various Islamic topics. While he undoubtedly had a profound connection with the Quran and recited it, his primary contribution was as a scholar, reformist, and orator rather than a professional reciter whose recordings are widely sought for their unique vocal qualities or mastery of *maqamat*. Muhammad Ghazali (also spelled Mohammed Al-Ghazali) is a Quran reciter from Saudi Arabia. He primarily recites in the Hafs ‘an Asim narration. Digital Qur’anic archives feature numerous recordings of his recitations, including complete recitations of the Holy Quran. His recitation is widely praised for its beauty, emotional depth, and clarity, often described as heart-touching and inspiring a sense of tranquility and reflection. Information regarding his specific Islamic education, teachers, public roles as an Imam or teacher, or significant life events is not widely documented in publicly accessible sources, beyond his presence in online Quranic recitation platforms.
