Derrick Burroughs is a retired NFL cornerback who is currently the Director of Athletics at Lane College. Derrick played college football for the University of Memphis and was drafted in the 1st round of the 1985 NFL Draft by the Buffalo Bills as the 14th overall pick. Derrick played his entire five-year NFL career with the Bills and spent much of his career as a coach, serving as Head Coach for Lane College during 2 separate stints (2010-2013 and 2015-2019). Derrick has also served as the Assistant Head Coach and Defensive Coordinator at Jackson State University, among other coaching positions. Derrick is also the founder of Icon Sports, a non-profit organization focusing on promoting community-based outreach programs, youth sports enrichment programs, and social awareness issues that directly affect the community. Prior to joining the Bears, Champ spent eight seasons with the Denver Broncos (from 2007-2014), including the final five as the Assistant Director of Pro Personnel. During the five seasons Champ was in this role, the Broncos won four AFC West Division titles. Champ and his family are very active in the community and they founded a non-profit corporation, called Heart Power, which has hosted many youth programs to serve and make an impact.

In today's episode former NFL player Derek Kennard shares the foundational lessons he learned as a professional athlete and how he’s sharing those lessons with the next generation. Listen in as Jennifer and Derek discuss how football taught him resilience, how he’s influencing the youth in his community, the impact of racism and culture on athletes, and the business lessons he learned to prepare him for the next phase of success beyond football. Derek Kennard is a retired NFL player who played professional football with the then St. Louis Cardinals, the New Orleans Saints and the Dallas Cowboys. Derek was selected by the Los Angeles Express in the third round (53rd overall) of the 1984 USFL Draft and he was then selected by the St. Louis Cardinals in the second round (45th overall) in the 1984 NFL Supplemental Draft of USFL and CFL players. Derek Played in the NFL from 1986 to 1996 and he won Super Bowl XXX with the Dallas Cowboys. Derek also has a son, Devon, who is an currently an NFL free agent and most recently played for the Baltimore Ravens.

Wendell has also coached football at various levels (high school, college, and NFL) and he has also served as the President of the NFLPA Chicago Chapter.

Quentin Johnston is a wide receiver who played college football at Texas Christian University (TCU). During the 2022 season, Quentin was named team captain and he recorded 60 receptions for 1,069 yards and six touchdowns. During Quentin’s entire 3 years at TCU, he racked up 108 receptions, 2,024 yards, 18.7 yards per catch, and 13 touchdowns. Quentin was also a two-time All-Big 12 First Team wide receiver and named the Fiesta Bowl Offensive Most Valuable Player (MVP).
