Finally getting into the new year, here's our latest 10-questions contribution. And, as we suspected, Adam misidentifies the organ played by Booker T. It was a Hammond, not a Wurlitzer. (So embarrassing.)

During one of the 50ish hours when we had a chance over a Christmas holiday gathering, we revisited this annual recap tradition with all family members, including Sam's podcast debut and quick cameos from Gus and Nina. Rather than being one more thing-to-do in the midst of the visit, this was just a great part of the holiday gathering. Categories include notable reads, sights, sounds, places, practices, quotes, and wildcards. You'll just have to listen to hear our answers, but there's educational content including the meaning of "epistolary", proper hydration techniques, names of monthly full moons, music recommendations, features of desert treks, and much more.

Representing Gen X and Gen Z, Adam and Reed consider the nature of jobs, careers, and working. We compare how we each have gotten jobs, how we experience our work, and what we aspire to in our futures.

After a long pause we're back with a new 10-questions episode. We don't think we've asked any of these questions of each other in the past, but we also know that we can't really remember. At least the answers are different -- and surprising.

A 10-questions episode after a long pause in our mouthsounds production cycle. It was simply nice to touch base and talk about things that matter--and a lot of things that don't. A longer recording but we had a lot of unimportant things (spleens, hair in food, PhDs, etc.) to catch up on.

It's now a tradition: Reed and Adam welcome special guests Anna and Karyn to review the year's notable, memorable, and otherwise "best" events, occurrences, and revelations. It's better than writing a Christmas card and more fun to talk to one another about our collective experiences in 2024.

After recording this, we all talked about how much was left out or could have better described, but it's also noteworthy that a lot of what we got to highlight pulled out memories from the past 12 months, as well as a few surprising reflections and recollections.

Reed's in town, so that prompted this typical 10-questions structured episode in which we surprise one another with curious prompts about life's great mysteries. What kind of fish would you be? What Muppet would you travel with? Revealing truths about family members, aspirations, mantras, and so much more that the world was without until we'd recorded this. Enjoy.

The 4 c's, one might say. Or just a random assortment of what life dishes up to put into a review episode. Originally we conceptualized a review of our day-to-day worklives, and then we'd realized that a review of cribbage would be interesting, and then we thought that probably we'd be drinking coffee while recording, and then there was this impromptu story about Reed's flat tire. That's all to say that we had a chance to talk about both the things we'd planned for and all the random tidbits and we had a very nice conversation and it's exactly what we needed. You might enjoy it as well.

Apparently and accidentally it's a tradition now: Our third review of musical selections in as many years. We mostly use this as an excuse to share some tracks and stories of how we relate to them, but also some cutting edge new recommendations from one album that is only days old, as well as one that's 5 decades old. And a lot in between.

This also made for a playlist for the road trip for Reed's move back to Oregon, and in the process we got to reconsider some of our characterizations of these songs. Jensen McRae isn't really light or upbeat and Ray LaMontagne isn't bluegrass at all; though you might forgive us for trying to use those descriptions here. We explicitly promote Mouthsounds as a podcast in which we do not speak of feelings. But we do reviews and we do ask each other questions, and in this case we decided to bend our own rules for this Very Special Episode so that we could essentially do a review of emotions. Reed and Adam each ask the other about 5 different feelings and objective, non-emotive analysis ensues. And maybe we do talk about our feelings, kind of. We'll never do this again, even though this might become one of our favorite episodes if we ignore the embarrassment, anxiety, jubilance, etc. that might be interpreted by the listener. Incidental music, movie, and other recommendations are included.

A return to our 10-questions format after some time away. Brand new questions not heard on any other podcast, along with the same solid answers and life advice you've come to expect about important and wide-ranging topics. Reed contributes outstanding life advice to his parents in the same episode that we contemplate Sasquatch. (And, as this is being dropped, happy birthday to Reed!)

It's been a while, but we're back at a live recording in which we reminisce a bit about a few things, most especially about travel to Ireland that included fish and chips (an original theme of this podcast endeavor) and whiskey. We sample Irish whiskeys and talk about our impressions and experiences of food, drink, and people.

A 10-questions episode in which one of us will say, "I have very little experience with elephants," and the other will state unironically, "I haven't read any of the Jesus books, but I have seen some Batman movies." This and much more intellectual ground is covered.

We made good on our promise to welcome back special guests, Anna and Karyn, as contributors to a family year-end review. Again, there are more feelings than usual, but also great recollections of the year and recommendations of stuff to read, paths to walk, things to watch, people to visit, and much much more. Reed's home! We haven't been able to coordinate a recording until now, but being in the same place and being right up the street from our favorite coffee shop, it was time to finally make good on our intention to sample espresso drinks in front of the microphones. In this latest installment of our 5-star podcast we offer our second review of music, highlighting songs in five categories picked by each of us. We also wrestle with the soundboard and playlist while at the same time offering what we think are really great music recommendations.

Number 21 is a 10-questions episode on the leading edge of Reed's 21st birthday including a surprising number of coincidentally interrelated topics from the father-son duo. We range widely, Supreme Court decisions to beverages to time signatures, with lots in between.

Now that the show is completed (we think), Reed and Adam review Ted Lasso in its entirety. Or at least the parts that we care to talk about and how we relate to them.

One of our favorite things, a 10-questions episode, alternating queries between the two of us to explore our ideas about sock matching, favorite shows, annoyances, admirations, etc. We also poke fun at librarians, dads, physicists, and moms.

Our special contribution to society is this review of the year after the entirety of 2022 has completed. Better yet, we include special guests, Anna and Karyn, to review music, movies, outings, fruit, members of the judiciary, shoes, and many other categories not covered by other podcasts or end-of-year reviews. With our guests, there was little we could do to squelch feelings, but we allowed it for this episode. In fact, we had so much fun we may have to make this an annual tradition.

A long overdue 10-questions episode in which Adam provides thoughtful, homegrown inquiries while Reed lets the internet source his questions. It works. We talk about all the things from everyday boiled vegetables, shoes, and classes to facts about the origin of our existence, jazz on vinyl, and eclipses. And more.

Reed's moving back to the dorm in Oregon where he's getting ready to start as a new resident assistant. We recorded this 10-questions episode the night before, discussing not only our adventures but the flavor or radish and the color of chartreuse; and we also tackle big issues like art, reincarnation, and cheese.

Reed and Adam review favorite father-son relationships in fictional settings, wonder about how these stories are told and which are the most admirable examples, and ponder why so many storytellers kill off the moms before the stories even start. Also, it happens to be Reed's birthday when we're recording this. And, Reed has a court date on this day, too. (All went well.) We explain.

In which Reed returns to his childhood home for the summer and we contemplate the midway point in his college career. We respond to a listener's questions, incorporated into our regular 10-question format. This wide ranging conversation hits on all of the most important topics, including various music references, classic books, Bert & Ernie, and also several boring pauses. Stick with it, though. You'll learn something. Probably. Also, keep listening to hear the pun that slays Reed, and then hear how he recovers to provide a lesson on constitutional law. Oh, and you get to hear how brand new drum mics sound while being used for vocals.

In which the father learns from his son how the Supreme Court works. Also, a review of the pandemic, revelations about the effects of podcasting, the value of university coursework, and other reflection.

This eclectic 10-question episode covers lots of ground, including stories from Adam to Reed about how the days of old transpired with the advent of email, CDs (and mixtapes, too!), and no glimmer of Netflix or even the internet as a web of information. We also steer discussion towards important books and their merits, the greatest pop piano players, and stupid things that college students do, past and present.

In which we get back to our roots, a typical review episode, but with the special addition of a guest. Along with Emma, we review Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. And, we also review Utah. Spoiler alert: Both are good. Other bonus information and discussions about school, brine flies, Reed's brush with a failing grade, and many other diversions.

In which we take on the technical challenge of recording ourselves and samples of audio all at the same time. We came across the idea to review song covers -- remakes of original songs -- in comparison with the originals, when Adam was trying to get ideas for how to play Dua Lipa's "Levitating" on the piano. The rest was a deep dive into so many other songs and how artists recreate something to make it their own, sometimes novel and sometimes not so great. It also just queued lots of memories of music in our lives that walked a fine line between our podcast terrain and the deep abyss of feelings.

In which we revisit our new occasional feature of 10 Questions posed by each of us. Deep discussion of pressing issues ensues, including Santa Claus, conspiracy theories, the French tuck, and our overall life purposes, trajectories, and aspirations. A special edition of mouthsounds in which we record from a stranger's RV in western Oregon. More important, we've just completed a day's drive in preparation for moving Reed into the dorm for year 2 of college. We discuss the roadtrip and what to expect and hope for in school.
