Darkstar Universe: A Journey into Afrocentric Star Wars Narratives
Episode 4
mardi 28 mai 2024 • Duration 53:30
Join us as we explore the world of Darkstar, an Oakland-based project that remixes Star Wars toys and stories into Afrocentric, futuristic narratives. Originating from the collaboration of two talented artists—(Korise Jubert) a sound designer and hip hop musician, and (Refa 1) a muralist—Darkstar showcases the fusion of art and storytelling from the perspective of black fathers and their sons. The creators share their journey, from humble beginnings in Star Wars fandom to creating intricate dioramas and stop-motion animations. Listen in to learn about their passion for community workshops, their influences from films like 'Black Panther' and 'Star Wars,' and their mission to inspire imagination and critical thinking among the youth. Discover the unique challenges and rewarding experiences they’ve faced along the way, and get a glimpse into their collaborative artistic process.
