Itâs Tuesday. Who else is freaked out about this cyclosporiasis outbreak? đ I basically live on watermelon, blueberries and other fresh fruit in the summer. Hopefully, health officials will figure out the cause soon. Trump drops 20 percent Strait of Hormuz toll planInflation falls in JuneJustices ask for more security in rare testimonyLindsey Grahamâs sister to be sworn in How to avoid cyclosporiasis amid outbreak đ°IN THE WHITE HOUSEJust kidding:Amirhosein Khorgooi/ISNA via AP President Trump says he will scrap his proposal for a 20 percent toll for cargo passing through the Strait of Hormuz.Instead, Trump says he will seek trade and investment deals with Gulf states. From Trumpâs announcement: âBased on highly productive conversations with Middle East leadership, I have decided to replace the 20% United States Reimbursement Fee with Trade and Investment Deals that the various Gulf States will be making into the United States,â Trump wrote on Truth Social. âThose Investments will be MASSIVE but, at the same time, extraordinarily good for them, and their future.â Keep in mind: This was a controversial proposal. Just last month, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said a toll on the waterway would be a âviolationâ of international law. Read more on the nixed proposal HAPPENING TODAY:Trump is meeting with Iraqi Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi at the White House. đ» Watch live Maybe the weather could take a hint from inflation: Inflation cooled in June! The consumer price index dropped 0.4 percent in June after the U.S. and Iran agreed to a peace deal, which became short-lived.The Hillâs Sylvan Lane pointed out this is the largest single-month price drop since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in April 2020.The numbers: âEnergy prices were down 5.7 percent in June, which wiped out increases in food and shelter prices, the BLS said. The annual inflation rate also dropped from 4.2 percent in May to 3.5 percent in June, and from 2.9 percent in May to 2.6 percent in June when excluding food and energy prices.â For context: This is a bigger drop than economists had expected. They anticipated an inflation rate of 3.8 percent and a 0.1 drop in consumer prices. But before you get too excited: Expect this price relief to be short-lived as the U.S.-Iran deal quickly fell apart. đŹ Follow todayâs live blogMeanwhile: Millions of Americans are taking on debt to afford food, according to new research. He was taken out by Israel. He was poisoned by Iran. He was blown up by Russia,â writes The Washington Postâs Olivia George. For example: Far-right activist Laura Loomer questioned whether âhe poisoned by a foreign adversary either abroad or upon returning to the US.âFormer Rep. George Santos (R-N.Y.) speculated: âI believe foul play could have been at play here.âFBI Director Kash Patel included in his post about Graham that âthe FBI is assisting local authorities.âRead more: âAfter Lindsey Grahamâs sudden death, conspiracy theories swirl onlineâ Adding to the chatter: Republican Sen. So I really donât know,â Johnson told host Eric Bolling on Real Americaâs Voiceâs âBolling!â^ Though, he took that back today. âDiscount all of that,â he said on NewsNation. THIS SIGNIFICANTLY COMPLICATES REPUBLICANSâ AGENDA: âGraham was one of the most outspoken and effective advocates in the Senate GOP conference for increasing military funding, and he was the lead proponent of President Trumpâs other top priorities, the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE America) Act and legislation to limit birthright citizenship,â The Hillâs Alexander Bolton writes. âNow, all of those priorities face an uncertain future while Thune looks to replace Graham with Sen. But Iran somewhat disagrees with that assessment, indicting it hasnât âreached a final conclusionâ in negotiations. SOME SKEPTICISM TO TRUMPâS PEACE PROGRESS: On the right: Conservative pundit Tucker Carlson joked that Trump is âoversellingâ the war in Iran like an âall-you-can-eat buffet in Atlantic City.â âAnd so itâs tempting to kind of lay all the blame at Trumpâs feet, and on one level, it is all his fault. He decided to do this,â Carlson added. âWhatever pressures he faced, it was his decision, and he has oversold Americaâs position in this, and he is, in some very real way, not good at this.â On the left: Sen. Adam Schiff (D-Calif.) questioned Trumpâs account of the negotiations with Iran. âThis is the problem when the president squanders his credibility by telling falsehood after falsehood throughout this presidency and his last, and that is the American people really donât know when to believe him,â Schiff said on CNNâs âThe Source.â âAnd I donât think thereâs anything strategic about that ambiguity,â he told host Kaitlan Collins. âIt doesnât make us stronger that we canât trust our own president.â đŹ Follow todayâs live blog Trumpâs next intel director isâŠPresident Trump announced on Thursday his next pick for director of national intelligence: former Securities and Exchange Commission Chair Jay Clayton. Keep in mind: Clayton has been floated for several roles, including attorney general. Does this mean Bill Pulte is out?: No, Pulte will still take over as the acting director on June 19 until Clayton is nominated. Does this clear the Democratic holdup over renewing spy powers?: Democrats withheld their support for renewing the U.S.âs warrantless spy powers over their opposition to Bill Pulte, Trumpâs pick for acting director of the intelligence community. Pulte has no intel experience. But no, this was not enough to satisfy Democrats. â±ïž ON CAPITOL HILL Republicans senators are in no mood to do this again: âSenate Republicans say they are in no mood to back President Trumpâs demand that Congress use the budget reconciliation process a third time to provide another $350 billion to the Pentagon,â reports The Hillâs Alexander Bolton. Why?: âThe GOP senators, who just slogged through an overnight 18-hour series of votes last week to pass a $70 billion package funding immigration enforcement operations, say a third process would put their vulnerable GOP colleagues in a tough political position.â Itâs not clear whether Senate Republicans could even pull together 50 votes to pass another reconciliation bill. Read Boltonâs reporting on the feeling in the Senate: âSenate GOP balks at Trump demand to boost defense funding in third reconciliation billâ FOR WHAT ITâS WORTH: Republican Sens.
