They played their northern California rivalry match against Sacramento Republic at the big stadium, but they did miss their lease payment that was due Friday and they are now facing a midseason eviction. Not a great look for the USL.
Gianni Infantino also had a rough weekend. He went on an Instagram tirade that proceeded to trash anyone and everyone who talked smack about the World Cup over the past few months. Ho boy.
Finally, we bring on Jamal Fayyad from Rio Grande Valley Red Crowns to talk about his amateur club in the southern tip of Texas after it featured prominently in World Cup commercials.

Robert Kerr and Jason Davis open with the unfortunate news that the Oakland Roots are behind on payments for the Oakland Coliseum. They owe $1.4 million by today in order to avoid defaulting on their payments with the city of Oakland. Let’s just say it’s rough times for such a well respected club.
It isn’t all bad news in the USL though. Last weekend's match between Pittsburgh Riverhounds and Louisville City snagged 453,000 viewers on CBS. It was the second highest television viewership figure in league history. Is this a fluke or a sign of growth for the USL Championship?
Next up, Everett, Washington has approved a multi-use stadium for a minor league baseball team and a potential USL expansion team. Do we really want our soccer teams to be sharing stadiums with baseball teams by design?
Finally, Director of Marketing for Fort Wayne FC Justin Cohn joins the show to tell the story of his very successful USL League One expansion team. Sure, we are happy that Folarin Balogun can play in tonight’s match against Belgium. We just don’t like the optics of FIFA appearing to make up rules to suspend his red card, seemingly at the behest of the current tenant at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Does anyone come across looking good here? How is Belgium taking the news?
More positively, what’s our outlook for this match? It’s clear that Mauricio Pochettino won’t have any qualms about playing Balogun in a knockout round game, so does he improve the USA’s chances? Will simply having Flo available boost the squad’s morale? Robert and Jason give their thoughts on what will happen tonight.

The United States won a knockout round game on Wednesday over Bosnia and Herzegovina, but it came at a cost. A fine performance was sort of marred by a Folarin Balogun red card in the middle of the second half. The Americans hung on to win the game after Malik Tillman banged home a free kick to set up a rematch of the 2014 round of 16 against Belgium. What will Maurico Pochettino do without his preferred striker?
Also, Fox reported record viewership for a soccer match in the United States in the game against Bosnia. Does this reflect a growing interest in soccer or just Americans’ love of a big time event and how has soccer broadcasting evolved since the USA made their return to the World Cup back in 1990?

They’ve offered him a contract extension that would keep him here through the 2030 tournament despite popular opinion saying he’s heading back to club football after the tournament ends.Second cycle managers rarely pan out and certainly have not for the USMNT. Can Poch break that cycle?
Also, MLS is adding another aging superstar from Europe as Robert Lewandowski is signing with the Chicago Fire for two years. What does this mean for the Fire and soccer in Chicago?
Superstar signings not withstanding, we ask a big question: Are the American domestic leagues doing enough to capitalize off World Cup fever? Should MLS be ramping up the national ads during World Cup matches? What about the USL? The NWSL had a tour bus rolling around to promote the NWSL Challenge Cup Final last Friday. Firday is here and there's a big week of soccer to look back on before we get to the weekend ahead.
The first round of the U.S. Open Cup is just about in the books. Six amateur teams have moved on to the second round, all of them at the expense of third division pro sides. USL League One in general took quite a dive with five of its sides falling at the first hurdle.
Elsewhere, Messi is oout of the Concacaf Champions Cup on the away goals tiebreaker and MLS announed their sprint season to bridge the gap between winter and fall when the calendar switches next year.
