| Creating the Lives We Want | 21 Jun 2024 | 00:40:30 | |
Our guest this week is, Marena Riyad, comedienne, creative, crafter, community builder, and crash courser in life. We got some learning today! From kidnapping to "it takes a village" to "be A LOT uncomfortable" to get where we want to go in life, we found a lot of Marena's talking points really hit home. Young wisdom is so very humbling, especially when it clearly demonstrates how to reconcile immigrant histories and write our own chapters in them. What does that look like when we grow up with stalwart models of resilience and sacrifice? It often means inheriting a strong work ethic and failure-is-not-an-option gameplan, but there is a room to follow our north stars. Marena demonstrates this beautifully. Whether you're an immigrant, a child of immigrants, or someone striving to make their mark in the world, this episode will resonate. Tune in at 6pm EST on Apple podcasts, Stitcher, Amazon Music, or head to our website landing page for a compelling discussion on ambition, resilience, and the beauty of crafting a life that reflects both where we come from and where we're going.

| BONUS Replay: But He Doesn't Hit Me | 21 Oct 2022 | 00:57:20 | |
This is a special REPLAY of Madiha Schader’s experience of hiding the painful details of her emotional abuse from family and friends. The cultural reasons she did this are very clear in her story. She’s not unique, especially because her lived domestic violence wasn’t always physical. Mental, emotional, verbal abuse, financial/social isolation, witholding necessary care, and unreasonable demands from a place of control that endanger a person’s psychosocial wellbeing are equally suffocating, and a matter of life and death. Madiha’s freedom came through her own son and her body. Find out how her closest friends identified what was happening and supported her until she was able to decide it was time to save herself. If you know someone you suspect is in danger of physical violence or mental oppression, help her using the resources listed below. Don’t wait until your phone rings with the worst news ever; text her and let her know you’ve got a listening, non judgmental ear and shoulder for her. If you’re someone who is in danger, having kids WILL NOT change an abuser towards you and might direct abuse toward your kid(s). Did you know you can send us a text? | New Fashioned | 10 Jun 2022 | 00:49:54
Muslim women know fashion, and as such, they know Lisa Vogl, spokesperson for modest fashion and domestic violence, and convert to Islam. Her revelation about converts post shahadah (coming to Islam) is an important reflection of the Muslim community, but even more important are her tips to step up to and for new Muslims. A good point she alludes to is that while Islam is the fastest growing religion in the world, there are still a lot of people leaving Islam, and we have to consider why that’s true. A 2017 survey found 24% of Muslim Americans have left Islam, and that 55% of that group no longer identifies with any religion. *Collective shudder.* Tune in at 6pm EST tonight on Apple podcasts, Stitcher, or click on our link in bio to share this episode with a momsister. Sorry, but the conversation that one CAN’T do something like make up their fasts, run a mile, or complete a perfect Pinterest Ramadan tableau is untrue. بِسْمِ اللهِ اللَّهُمَّ جَنِّبْنَا الشَّيْطَانَ ، وَجَنِّبِ الشَّيْطَانَ مَا رَزَقْـتَنَا In the Name of Allah. O Allah, keep the shaytaan away from us and keep the shaytaan away from what You have blessed us with.

| Cliteracy Consciousness | 10 Feb 2022 | 00:48:08 | |
Dr. Shaakira Abdullah aka The Halal Sexpert joins us today to talk all things clitoris because let’s be real, how many of us know exactly what it is….or WHERE it is? And it’s a part of our bodies!!! As Zaiba says in this episode, “We don’t know what we don’t talk about.” Find out about our God-given organ (and He does NOT make mistakes!), its power, and the ways in which men have tried to oppress us through it. Good news: female circumcision is another failure of men and internalized female misogyny to thwart female pleasure. This episode includes terms like “lick,” “kink,” “orgasm,” and “squirt,” so stay tuned for that, preferably without the kids. Let’s fix that today and appreciate the candor and passion Dr. Abdullah brings to the topics of intimacy, sex, and Muslim sexuality. Don’t miss her advice to parents on how to talk to our kids about sex. And let’s all get cliterate! Links:

| Mom Made in Palestine | 24 May 2024 | 01:10:17 | |
Today’s guest, Morgan Cooper @mashjar_juthour, has lived and breathed Palestine for over two decades and is online telling Americans what her experiences have been as a Christian human in the land. She’s witnessed the DAILY government apartheid and violence against indigenous people and hasn’t been shy to speak up, a warrior mom to Palestinian children being raised on their historical land. Your heart will swell with pride, and break when she shares what she has to teach her kids to be safe there. In this episode, you’ll note us trying not to say “West Bank,” given what she’s has taught us about the language of colonization and violence. Morgan is a mom and environmental activist, preserving Palestinian land and culture in the ways she knows how: by raising proud Palestinian children, and supporting local female artisans so that the crafts of the land can recruit hearts outside of it. Handmade Palestine has been her passion project for almost a decade and through it, we can help support indigenous mothers and their liberation. Her message to Gazan mothers, well, another tearjerker. We thought about splitting this into two episodes, but it just couldn’t be done because of the efforts we had to let everyone know about on the ground to help Palestinian moms TODAY. So this may take the drive lines as well as your day’s errands to complete. For those out of school, it’s a good way to start a road trip, but we promise you’ll finish before you hit the next state. Tune in at 6pm EST on Apple podcasts, Stitcher, Amazon Music, or head over to our website and take a listen, then share with ten friends who need to hear all about, and shop at, Handmade Palestine @handmadepalestine. | Hands On/Off Parenting | 27 Jan 2022 | 00:51:46
Aisha Jalali joins us today to discuss her survival guide to raising a 6-pack (of kids, not soda or beer) and being the hot, hot, hot mother in law she is now masha'Allah. The good news is, she is winging it while making it look easy. Like Aisha, WE want to "wing it" via many road trips, sujood ash shukr (prostrations of gratitude), family halaqa traditions, mama self care, and keeping all our ears and doors open, even when there's cucumbers and watermelon sugar involved. Yes, we said it. You'll have to listen to find out why! Tune in at 6pm EST on Apple podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher, ask Alexa, click on our bio, or go to our website and hit 'Listen' on the landing page. Share it with 3 friends and leave reviews!

| When They’re “All Grown Up” | 20 Jan 2022 | 00:49:56 | |
Chaplain Kirsten Jawad joins us today to engage in thoughtful conversation about parenting mindfully in an era when our young people are so much more dynamic than in the past–from flying the nest to staying in it and what work is required to keep our relationships healthy, faithful, and rewarding. While it’s great that our kids don’t want to leave yet, we still serve in our maternal roles to support their continued independence, resilience, and to help our mom-adult child relationship reach another level. Even when our kids fall off the path of Islam, there is a place for us to guide them back as adults without going nuclear (Uzma!!!) using the Kristenism “carefrontations” to bring them back home. It’s about maternal mindset and truly having tawwakul (truly trusting God’s plan) Allah, as well as tawwakul in our kids and our momselves! Write down her 5 rules to mommying that can make a difference with all ages, but really apply to our adult Muslim kids! Links:
