MGPC Ep. 107 Nats Short, Day 409 Aug 202501:00:48

Welcome to Episode 107, Day 4 of The Modelgeeks Podcast!

We are on-site at the IPMS USA Nationals in Hampton, VA!Final day here at the Nats and it has been a great time! Thank you all for listening in and following along.

Today we had the opportunity to talk with author, Chief Petty Officer Venner Milewski USN (Ret) who has a series of book covering U.S. Naval vessels titled Fighting Ships of the U.S. Navy 1883-2019. The series covers a wide range of ships, and the books are a must for ship builders. We also talked with two GUNPLA builders who share their thoughts on the genre. And finally, with apologies to James and Clare of the Agora Models team I have their interview up, two days late…give it a listen and learn about these fine models.

It was another long but enjoyable day on the floors here at Nats and we are headed out the door to the awards banquet! Hope to see you in Fort Wayne, IN for the 2026 Nats!

We would like to thank all you listeners out there for the continued support you have given the show.

Share your work with us and the rest of the scale modeling community through our web page, or through our Facebook community page. We love seeing other people’s work. Who knows who you may inspire someone through your latest masterpiece!

Welcome to Episode 016 of the ModelGeeks Podcast. Following up on Ep. 15 where we discussed the impending “Death” of the hobby. In this episode we discuss how Social Media has made a solitary; introverted sort of hobby more “social” than ever and the role it is playing in our hobby.

MGPC Ep. 107 Nats Short Day 107 Aug 202500:21:58

Welcome to Episode 107 of The Modelgeeks Podcast!

In this episode we are on-site at the IPMS USA Nationals in Hampton, VA. Rather than drop a single episode covering the Nats we wanted to try something a little different. Over the course of the 4-day Nats we will record short segments covering the day’s events, what caught our eye in the display hall, what products are hot in the vendor hall, and most importantly who we meet and speak with about the hobby. We hope to get in a few interviews with folks in the hobby, be it fellow modelers, or new vendors on the scene promoting the brand. If you couldn’t make it to Hampton for the Nats, tune in and we’ll try to convey what each day brings…especially any news on new kits or products. So, let’s get on with what Day 1 brought!

We would like to thank all you listeners out there for the continued support you have given the show.

MGPC Ep. 103, Your Modeling Influences w/ Guest Rob Riviezzo 21 Jun 202502:17:13

Welcome to Episode 103 of The Modelgeeks Podcast!

In this episode we are privileged to have Mr. Rob Riviezzo, host of the “Modeling Insanity” podcast” and the “Quarter Scale Madness” podcast, sitting in the studio with us. Rob shares his insight into the hobby, and his own modeling influences with us. Rob is also the U.S. Associate Editor of Military Modelcraft International magazine (http://www.militarymodelcraft.co.uk/), and I’m sure a huge influence in his own right on many armor modellers out there.
In response to an email from listener Luis Toledo, of Lancaster CA, we get into a great discussion on entering contests and should that be a barometer of one’s modeling skills? Each host weighs in on that topic.
In our Main Topic we each discuss who or what has influenced our modeling through the years. Some famous, and infamous folks make the list!

We would like to thank all you listeners out there for the continued support you have given the show.

Welcome to Episode 102 of The Modelgeeks Podcast!

In this episode, the Modelgeeks are again down D-ran.  They go around the pattern and say what they are working on their benches.  Nemo gives a good run down of his thoughts on Kotare BF 109 K4 and posted updated photos on the website.  Frilldo is in full swing on the Privateer and will be posting an update soon. Frilldo, Whitey, and El Presidente give their rundown of the recent AMPS Nationals. The Geeks run through some of the newest releases and answer the listener mail.

For the main topic, Frilldo asks the other Geeks, “What were some of your important Lessons Learned in you model building career”? The geeks give some great answers about what they have picked up over the years and what they still sometimes still do today! Welcome to Episode 112 of The Modelgeeks Podcast!

There is the usual banter and what we’re doing in our respective modeling domains to include new things we’ve found of interest.

And yes, we get off topic quite a lot in this episode.

Welcome to Episode 100 of The ModelGeeks Podcast—a major milestone and a celebration of our journey through the world of scale modeling! We finally made it to triple digits, and we couldn’t have done it without YOU. A heartfelt thank you to all our listeners for your incredible support along the way. Here’s to the next 100 episodes!

In this episode, the Geeks reflect on the road so far and look ahead to what’s next. Of course, we've been busy at the bench (and burning up the credit cards), so we’ll chat about the latest kits, tools, and goodies hitting the modeling scene—and which ones we just couldn’t resist.

As spring rolls in, we hope your bench time is in full swing and that you're putting the finishing touches on your next contest entry or display piece. MGPC Ep. 98 Researching and Planning Your Model Build...A Listener Asks??12 Apr 202502:05:17

Welcome to Episode 98 of The Modelgeeks Podcast!

We’ve all been busy at the bench through March! We’ll talk about cool new items coming our way, and what we’ve picked up lately, as well as pay a visit to the Modelgeeks web page’s “Listener Gallery” and have a look at the great work from you folks out there.

For our main topic of discussion, we pull from the Mail Bag! Mr. Robbie Nauffts of Alberta Canada asks:

“How do you research a subject for a build?” Are you looking at a specific aircraft? Or a cross section of similar aircraft? What happens when Samo is planning a build compared to Frilldo? Exc.

Do we always go to the books for a build, or can we just relax and go out of the box and just enjoy building a model kit? Or is doing research part of the enjoyment? We each have our take on it.

We would like to thank all you listeners out there for the continued support you have given the show.

Share your work with us and the rest of the scale modeling community through our web page, or through our Facebook community page. We love seeing other people’s work. Who knows who you may inspire someone through your latest masterpiece!

MGPC EP 97 "New Techniques with Geoff Martin of Furball Aero-Design29 Mar 202502:40:56

Welcome to Episode 97 of The Modelgeeks Podcast!

In this episode, the Modelgeeks are joined by the one and only Geoff Martin of Furball Aero-Design decals.  Furball joins the geeks in the formation and goes for a lap in the pattern. Furball gives some insight to how the Furball Brand came to be.  The Geeks get the news form one of the industry leaders when it comes to aftermarket decals. The Geeks answer mail, take a lap in the pattern around the Modelgeeks website and say what has stood out to them.

For the main topic, Furball propose the topic of what were some of your game changers in your toolbox. The Geeks go around the pattern and discuss what their game changers were and how they have helped them get to where they are today.  We would like to thank all the listeners for the continued support you have given the show. We hope to see you out and about as we hit some of the shows or if you decide to come visit ours in October. MGPC EP 111 PAXCON 2025 Wrap Up...and Other Stuff!18 Oct 202501:52:59

Welcome to Episode 111 of The Modelgeeks Podcast!

In this episode our main topic of discussion will be on our local model club’s model show, the Southern Maryland Scale Modeler’s PAXCON 2025.

We’ll give you a recap of the show, share some lessons learned and thank all those who made it happen.

We had a few visitors in town for the show, a couple international guests as well. Mr. Robbie Nauffts (aka The Model Guy of YouTube fame) from Calgary Alberta, Canada, and Mr. Kris De Winter who flew in from Groningen, Netherlands. We can’t thank you both enough for making the trip to PAXCON! Take a look at the work these two modelers produce in their respective social media sites:

 Robbie Nauffts, TheModelGuy

 Kris De Winter Instagram: @rnlaf_scale_modeling

The PAXCON 2025 Decal sheet was well received! With art work produced by Furball Aero-Design, the sheet features aircraft from NAS Patuxent River both past and present with two aircraft on the sheet that have not been done before, VX-23 Strike Test’s T-45C featuring unique blue trim, and VXS-1’s De Havilland  UV-18 Twin Otter. The sheet is available for purchase on the Southern Maryland Scale Modeler’s web page:
