| EP281: Too Many Clothes, Nothing to Wear with Erin Flynn (@cladwellapp) | 06 Jun 2023 | 00:28:05 | |
“I have too many clothes but nothing to wear.” It’s a common phrase that many of us think as we peer into our closets. But is there a solution? It’s my personal belief that decluttering can absolutely solve this problem; however, I think there are even more ways we can address this mentality. Joining me today to help find solutions to closet overwhelm is founder of the Cladwell app, Erin Flynn. As a working mom with limited time, Erin understands the challenges that many of us face when it comes to our wardrobes. She believes in the concept of "less is more," helping people refine their personal style, shop smarter, and get creative with their existing wardrobe. Erin emphasizes the importance of normalizing outfit repeats, living intentionally, shopping from our own closets, and, of course, clearing the clutter. The episode delves into these topics and more! -----------------------Links Discussed in This Episode

| EP280: Am I a Minimalist Because I'm Surrounded By MAXIMALISTS? with Melissa Risenhoover | 31 May 2023 | 00:27:58 | |
If you’ve been pursuing a minimalist lifestyle for awhile now, have you ever thought to yourself, “Am I a minimalist because I’m surrounded by maximalists?” In other words, am I able to enjoy the lavishness of someone else’s lifestyle without having to live that way in my day-to-day? The thought crossed my mind a few years back and I knew I wanted to discuss the idea on a future episode. Joining me for this conversation is Melissa Risenhoover. Fun fact about this episode: Melissa and I actually recorded at the beginning of 2021. We put the release date on hold due to Melissa’s move to Shanghai. When I finally went back to look for the recording, I thought I had lost it only to discover it last week on an old computer. After listening back, I knew this was a sentiment I wanted to share with all of you. There isn’t necessarily a conclusion we come to during the conversation, I do believe it’s something each person must conclude for themselves. If anything, I hope this dialogue gives you something to think about as you process why minimalism is important to you and your family. -----------------------Links Discussed in This Episode

Dr. Bliss, who is a professor of sociology at Rutgers University, has spent over a decade researching the misconceptions surrounding intelligence and its assessment. | EP276: “My Family of 6 Lives in an 830 Sq Ft House BY CHOICE—And We Have No Regrets” with Andee Martineu | 11 May 2023 | 00:33:01
In the midst of the pandemic, while everyone in tiny apartments was looking to trade up to a larger home, Andee Martineau did the opposite. She and her husband sold their 7,000 square foot home in Arizona and moved their family of six (plus two kids in college) into a cabin by a lake in Utah. Andee went from having a two-story home with two kitchens and two laundry rooms to a two-story cabin with only two bedrooms and one bathroom. Yes: one bathroom. They weren’t broke, rather worn down. The fairy tale is the big house, but the reality was that Andee spent all of her time cleaning the 15+-room home, keeping up with 1.5 acres of land, managing the pool and raking the lawn. She desired for more time with family, but with all that space sometimes they were so spread out in the house - she'd had no idea who was doing what... In this episode, Andee will be sharing her story of how she made this decision, what inspired her to choose this path, and how it has impacted her family's life. She will talk about the benefits and challenges of living with less, including spending more quality time with her family and lightening the mental load that comes with having too much stuff. ------------------------------- Links Discussed in This Episode

| EP275: Unlocking the Secrets of Effective Parent-Child Communication with Emily Kline | 05 May 2023 | 00:32:14 | |
In today's episode, I sat down with Dr. Emily Kline to discuss how Motivational Interviewing (MI) can be used to facilitate healthy communication between parents and young adults. Often used in healthcare settings, MI is a communication style that focuses on making positive changes, such as reducing drug or alcohol use, taking medications regularly, and other lifestyle improvements. However, Dr. Kline has adapted these techniques to help parents communicate with their young adult children more effectively. In this insightful conversation, Dr. Kline explains how parents can build stronger relationships with their children by using the principles of MI. By approaching difficult conversations with curiosity, asking good questions, listening carefully, repeating back what you heard, and giving advice effectively, parents can create a partnership with their children that fosters mutual respect and understanding. Join us as we explore these important techniques for making hard talks easier. ------------------------------- Links Discussed in This Episode

| EP273: Giving Your Kids Clothing a Second "Life" with Hand Me Up | 22 Apr 2023 | 00:23:24 | |
As parents, we all know how quickly our children outgrow their clothes, and how tempting it can be to simply throw them away and buy new ones. But with the life cycle of kids' clothes being much shorter compared to adult garments, this can lead to a significant amount of waste. In 2018, the EPA reported, 17 million tons of textile waste ended up in landfills, compared to the 2.5 million tons that were recycled, it's clear that their work is more important than ever. That's where small business (and my guests today), Hand Me Up comes in! Hand Me Up's mission is to promote a circular approach focused on reuse and repair, which is key to extending the life of textiles. Join me for this interview with founders, Kara and Nicole to learn more about their inspiration, mission, and impact. ------------------------------- Links Discussed in This Episode

Listening. It is one of the chief skills parents need with children. From paying attention to children to listening to teachers and doctors, much of being a parent consists of listening. How can you improve your listening skills? Here today to discuss all of these topics and more is Christine Miles - author of the award winning and critically acclaimed book, What Is It Costing You Not To Listen?. | EP268 (Part One): Slowing Down Family Life: Embracing Simple Living in a Fast-Paced World with Jillian Hankins | 28 Mar 2023 | 00:33:32
In this episode, I delve into the topic of slow and simple living with my guest, Jillian Hankins. My conversation with Jillian felt like catching up with an old friend. We spoke for over ninety minutes. In the first half, we explored the significance of slowing down, even when it's challenging to quiet our inner to-do lists. We also discussed the common tendency to claim we live slowly while still getting swept up in the culture of busyness. The second half (that will air on Friday) focuses on Jillian’s passion to live according to natures rhythms/seasons. To live seasonally is more than what we eat, but reaches down into the very marrow of our days, how we move through the hours that we've been given with our families! ------------------------------- Links Discussed in This Episode

| EP263: Old Fashioned on Purpose with Jill Winger | 21 Feb 2023 | 00:28:46 | |
As young newlyweds, Jill Winger and her husband asked themselves one question that forever changed their lives: “Why do we have to do it like everyone else?” They set out on a quest for the answer, one path leading them to impulse-buy a neglected farmstead 40 miles away from the nearest grocery store. Little did they know that an old homestead would create such a vast shift in the trajectory of their lives. They were now pursuing a path of homesteading. Jill is the founder of The Prairie Homestead, a cornerstone of the modern homesteading movement since 2010. She is passionate about teaching old-fashioned skills, and encouraging a more thoughtful, time-honored approach to modern life. Today Jill discusses how to begin homesteading with a small amount of land, how culture romanticizes chores and chickens, how she relaxes with so much daily responsibility and more… ------------------------------- Links Discussed in This Episode

| Intentional Ways to Make Money at Home | Jenna Griffith (EP344) | 09 Jul 2024 | 00:40:25 | |
Choosing to be a stay-at-home mom often entails significant sacrifices, particularly when it means transitioning to a single-income household. For some, this decision aligns with long-standing plans and financial preparations. For others, it may come unexpectedly, driven by a deep desire for more time with their children, prompting a search for ways to supplement lost income. Regardless of where one stands on this spectrum, today my guest, Jenna Griffith (host of the Joy-Filled podcast) and I aim to share ideas on generating income from home without the need to develop a personal brand, pursue influencer status, or engage in social selling. These alternatives offer viable paths beyond the commonly touted options, providing flexibility and financial independence suited to varying family needs and preferences. Jenna Griffith is a lifelong Jesus follower, mom of three, and host of a chart-topping Christian motherhood podcast. Jenna is passionate about helping moms experience joy in every season of motherhood and life, because she knows how it feels to live without it. After walking through postpartum depression and anxiety, and feeling as though she was the only one experiencing the struggles she faced, Jenna was determined to come alongside other moms in the same season as her and remind them of two things: they’re never alone, and there is always joy. And with that, The Joy Filled Podcast was born. Through weekly episodes filled with Gospel centered encouragement and teaching, Jenna helps thousands of women in every season strengthen their relationship with Christ so they can experience the purpose, confidence, and joy that is only found in Him; making them equipped for whatever comes their way in the hard and holy work of motherhood.

Mothers often feel guilt when they pursue something that takes time away from their children, especially when that something could be deemed less important than parenting. Writer Ashlee Gadd felt the same way when she was navigating being a first-time mother, exhausted yet yearning to be creative. Now the mother of three, Gadd created Coffee + Crumbs, an online community for women wanting to express themselves through storytelling, and intentionally finds time to be creative. In her new book, Create Anyway: The Joy of Pursuing Creativity in the Margins of Motherhood Gadd gives readers permission to pursue their creative gifts alongside motherhood. On today's episode she’ll discuss: how being creative everyday makes you a healthier person and a better mother, why it is (more than) okay to create and mother at the same time, why it takes a village to raise our kids and also to make art and more… ------------------------------- Links Discussed in This Episode

| EP252: Let's Declutter: Negative Self-Talk with Julia Ubbenga | 20 Dec 2022 | 00:23:31 | |
Who do you talk to the most? Maybe you’re thinking: “my spouse, my kids, my friends, or my coworkers.” This may surprise you but the answer is none of the above. On a daily basis, the person you talk to the most is, without question, yourself. We each have around 70,000 self-talk thoughts a day. And here’s the problem—80% of them are negative. When we hear a steady barrage of negative words from the person we talk to by far the most, life becomes anything but simple. Disempowering thoughts (I’m a bad mom, I’m a mess, I’m so overwhelmed, This day is terrible), especially when repeated often, drag us down and complicate our lives. These thoughts distract us from the present moment, keep us from meeting our goals and stop us from fully living our lives; however, what if we could apply the idea of decluttering to this area of life? Joining me today to encourage us as we ‘declutter’ negative self-talk is Julia Ubbenga, voice behind the popular social media account and blog, Rich in What Matters. Today Julia will take us through her process of forming better habits around the way we speak to ourselves. ------------------------------- Links Discussed in This Episode
