| E240. Redefining Fitness in Motherhood | 08 Sep 2026 | 00:44:29 | |
Redefining Fitness in Motherhood - Jen Murray
Motherhood changes everything - including how we see ourselves, our bodies, and what “fitness” even means.
In this honest and empowering conversation, I’m joined by personal trainer and women’s health specialist Jen Murray to unpack the pressure so many women feel to “bounce back” after having a baby - physically, mentally and emotionally.
Because the truth is… nothing about motherhood is linear.
We explore why your priorities naturally shift after children, how unrealistic expectations are harming women, and why your body doesn’t need fixing - it needs understanding, support and compassion.
From pelvic floor recovery and sleep deprivation to identity shifts and the invisible mental load, this episode is a powerful reminder that struggling doesn’t mean you’re failing.
It means you’re human.
We also share practical, realistic ways to rebuild strength, confidence and trust in your body - without guilt, perfectionism or pressure.
If you’ve ever felt like you’ve “lost yourself” in motherhood, this episode will help you feel seen, supported and empowered to move forward - on your terms.

Fatherhood, Feeding & The Role No One Talks About - with Jim Chapman
A powerful, honest conversation about modern fatherhood, parenting pressures, and what really matters.
In this episode, Pip sits down with Jim Chapman @jimchapman to explore the realities of raising young children- from sleepless nights and feeding challenges to the emotional shifts that come with becoming a parent. Together, they unpack the myth of “perfect parenting,” the importance of trusting your instincts, and how to navigate judgement around feeding choices.
Jim shares openly about his children’s very different feeding journeys, the impact of reflux on family life, and how combination feeding transformed their experience. The conversation also dives into emotional intelligence in parenting, breaking generational patterns, and why being present matters more than getting it “right.”
This episode is a reassuring reminder that parenting is not about perfection, it’s about connection, flexibility, and figuring it out as you go.

| E230. Are Sleep Coaches Safe? A Midwife and Nurse Explain | 18 May 2026 | 00:33:47 | |
Are Sleep Coaches Safe? A Midwife and Nurse Explain
The baby sleep industry is under scrutiny and if you've seen the recent headlines, you probably have questions.
In this episode, I'm joined by Gem, a paediatric nurse and sleep expert from Calm and Bright Sleep Support, to have the honest conversation most people in this space are avoiding.
We're not here to debate sleep training. We're here to talk about something more important: safety, regulation, and what it actually means to get qualified, evidence-based support for your baby's sleep.
Because the truth is this industry is unregulated. Anyone can call themselves a sleep coach. And when parents are exhausted, desperate, and vulnerable, that matters.
In this episode we cover:
Why the lack of regulation in the baby sleep industry is a real problem and what the consequences look like
The red flags to watch for when choosing a sleep support professional
Why baby sleep is never one-size-fits-all and why any advice that ignores your baby's individual needs should be questioned
What good, genuinely evidence-based support looks like in practice
How to trust your instincts when the noise online is overwhelming
If you've been feeling confused, unsure who to trust, or shaken by recent news in the sleep space, this episode will cut through it.
You are the expert in your baby. This conversation will help you feel like it.

This week, I’m joined by the wonderful Helen, an incredible mum of 2 who I’ve had the honour of supporting through my YPJ - Your Pregnancy and Postnatal Journey programme. Although Helen prepared for her first birth in all the ways we’re told we “should,” the experience itself was not close to what she wanted. Determined to approach things differently the next time, she chose to reclaim her power and prepare in a new way. Today, I’m so grateful to share space with her as she opens up about her journey, with the hope of supporting and guiding others as they navigate birth themselves.

Pelvic Floor Secrets No One Told You with Clare Bourne

These are the muscles that quietly hold everything together, influence how you birth, shape your recovery, and even affect how you feel in your body long after the baby arrives. Yet for so many women, the pelvic floor only becomes a topic after something goes wrong.
In this episode, pelvic health physiotherapist, author, and educator Clare Bourne @clarebournephysio joins us to pull back the curtain on what’s really happening in your body during pregnancy and birth. Clare has guided thousands of women through evidence-based, practical birth prep that replaces fear with confidence.
Settle in as we explore why your pelvic floor deserves a starring role in your birth plan, how to actually prepare it for labour, and what meaningful recovery looks like beyond the myths, mixed messages, and “just do your Kegels” advice. This is the conversation every mum-to-be should hear.

| E221. What About Dad? The Side of Parenthood Men Rarely Talk About with Mathew Lewis Carter | 20 Jan 2026 | 00:53:18 | |
What About Dad? Mathew Lewis Carter Opens Up on the Reality of Fatherhood.
Dads are often profoundly affected by pregnancy and parenthood, even if their experiences are less visible. Many feel pressure to stay strong and supportive while quietly navigating their own fears, identity shifts, and emotional challenges. The transition to fatherhood can trigger changes in mental health, especially when sleep deprivation, financial pressures, or relationship strain enter the picture. And because society tends to focus primarily on mothers, dads can feel sidelined, unsupported, or unsure of where to turn when they’re struggling.
In this powerful and deeply honest conversation, Mathew Lewis Carter @mathewlcarter @secretlifeofdads brings to light a side of parenthood that is too often overlooked: the emotional and mental health struggles fathers face behind the scenes. From the unexpected weight of postnatal depression to challenges, Mathew shares the reality so many dads live but rarely speak about.
Together, we explore why men’s experiences are so often dismissed, how these struggles impact relationships and identity, and what real support for fathers should look like. This is an episode for anyone who has felt unheard in their journey to parenthood, and for every family who wants to understand the full picture of what it means to become a parent today.

| E220. Expecting Twins or Triplets? What Parents Really Need to Know | 13 Jan 2026 | 00:34:22 | |
Welcome to today’s episode and buckle up, because we’re diving into the world of Twins, triplets and more.
What’s it really like to be pregnant with, and raise twins, triplets or more?
In this episode of the Midwife Pip Podcast, Pip is joined by Helen Peck, Head of Healthcare Engagement and Research at the Twins Trust, for an honest, heart-warming and eye-opening conversation about life with multiples. From high-risk pregnancies and neonatal care to feeding decisions, exhaustion, and the magic of watching tiny humans grow side by side, nothing is off the table.
Helen shares her own powerful story as a mum to identical twins, born after a complex and anxious pregnancy, and how a chance connection with the Twins Trust became her lifeline and eventually her life’s work. Together, Pip and Helen unpack the realities parents of multiples face: the isolation, the overwhelm, the relentless logistics… and the joy, humour and unbreakable bonds that only families of multiples truly understand.
From what parents of twins and triplets wish they’d known during pregnancy to the importance of specialist care, informed choice, and having a voice.
Whether you’re expecting multiples, supporting someone who is, or simply fascinated by the extraordinary strength of parents who do this every day, this episode will leave you feeling informed, reassured, and deeply inspired. Check out Twins Trust: https://twinstrust.org

| E219. Why Childcare Nutrition is Failing Our Children | 16 Dec 2025 | 00:35:01 | |
Why Nurseries Are Failing Children at Mealtimes?
We wouldn’t dream of sending our children to childcare with dirty toilets or unsafe toys, yet so many settings serve food that barely meets the mark. In this episode, we’re lifting the lid on what’s really being served to our children, and why their nutrition deserves far more attention than it’s getting.
Why Nurseries Are Failing Children at Mealtimes… with Catherine Lippe
If you’re a parent, you probably check the toilets, the toys, and the teaching before choosing a nursery. But how often do you check the food?
In this powerful episode, I’m joined by Catherine Lippe, registered nutritionist and early-years specialist, to uncover the truth about nutrition in childcare and the silent standards slipping under the radar.
We explore why nutrition in early years matters far more than most people realise, how current systems are failing children, and what needs to change to protect their health and development.
From packed lunches to nursery menus, Catherine shares the real-world solutions that help parents and childcare providers raise healthier, happier children, without guilt or overwhelm.
Because every child deserves food that fuels their future, not just fills their plate.

Why the Third Trimester Is Too Late to Prepare for Birth
With Midwife Pip
Most parents wait until the third trimester to start thinking seriously about birth - but what if that’s too late? In this episode, I dive into the real reasons why birth preparation should begin much earlier in pregnancy. From understanding your options to building a support system and practicing evidence-based coping techniques, early prep can mean the difference between a birth that happens to you and one you actively shape. We’ll bust common myths, share insights, and give you a practical timeline for when and how to truly get ready. Whether you're expecting or planning ahead, this is the episode you didn’t know you needed until now.

| E203. Why Paternity Leave is Failing Families | 28 Apr 2025 | 00:37:01 | |
Why Paternity Leave is Failing Families
With Alex Lloyd Hunter
Many dads feel under-supported in their role as fathers because traditional gender norms still often place the primary caregiving focus on mothers. While times are slowly changing, many workplaces offer limited paternity leave, making it difficult for dads to bond with their newborns in those crucial early weeks. Even when paternity leave is available, there can be pressure—social or professional—to return to work quickly, reinforcing the outdated idea that a father’s primary role is financial rather than emotional. Without strong support systems, from employers to parenting communities, many dads struggle to feel included and confident in their role, missing out on key bonding opportunities that are so important for both them and their children.
This week I am joined by Alex Lloyd Hunter a UK-based advocate for improved paternity leave and co-founder of The Dad Shift, an organisation dedicated to campaigning for better paternity leave policies in the UK. After becoming a dad, he recognised the significant barriers that limited fathers' involvement in bonding with and caring for their family. The UK's statutory paternity leave offers just two weeks at a rate of £184 per week, one of the least supportive in Europe.

| E199. Positive Inductions: Empowering Birth Stories | 10 Feb 2025 | 00:41:24 | |
Positive Inductions: Empowering Birth Stories
With Hayley and Danielle
Induction of labour often lands in the ‘No thank you’ pile in birth plans and preferences and, as a Midwife, I am keen to challenge this idea because the truth is that with the right support, information and guidance an induction can be a very positive tool to an empowering birth experience.
This week I am joined by two incredible new mummy’s so expect baby appearances and noises on today’s episode! Hayley and Danielle, both members of my exclusive YPJ- Your Pregnancy and Postpartum Journey Programme and Hayley is also actually our Community Manager but other than having just become first time mums these two incredible women have something else in common- they both had a positive induction of labour birth and are, like me, keen to dispel the myths and scare mongering that exists out there. So grab a cuppa and let’s get down to it.
