Episode 0039 — Shadow Space: Sovereignty and Competition in Earth Orbit
Episode 40
Wednesday, September 9, 2026 • Duration 18:00
Every day, systems you don’t see are keeping the world synchronized.
Airplanes navigate.
Financial markets timestamp transactions.
Supply chains move on schedule.
Emergency services know where to go.
Most of that depends on infrastructure that operates hundreds of miles overhead.
In this episode of Midweek Sitrep, Jerry Fowler breaks down how Earth orbit quietly became part of the infrastructure that modern life depends on—and what it means when multiple countries and companies operate in the same domain without clear borders or simple rules.
You’ll learn:
How space shifted from exploration to critical infrastructure
Why sovereignty works differently when there’s no territory to control
What competition in orbit actually looks like in practice
How commercial systems became central to national security
Why reliability, coordination, and governance matter more than confrontation
Because space isn’t just a place.
It’s a system.
And when systems become essential, how they’re managed becomes a national security issue.

Episode 0038 — The Privacy Illusion: Surveillance by Convenience in Modern Life
Episode 39
Wednesday, August 26, 2026 • Duration 22:41
Every day, information about where you go, what you buy, how you feel, and what you pay attention to is being collected — not through force, but through the systems you use without thinking.
In this episode of Midweek Sitrep, Jerry breaks down how surveillance has shifted from something imposed to something embedded, built into the apps, devices, and platforms that make modern life easier.
You’ll learn:
Why convenience became the most effective surveillance model ever created.
How everyday technology captures patterns that go far beyond simple data.
Where that information actually goes — and how it’s used by companies and governments.
How passive data collection turns into active influence over behavior and decisions.
Why this shift matters for businesses, institutions, and national security.
Because surveillance today doesn’t look like someone watching you.
It looks like systems designed to know you —
and quietly shape what you do next.
And when that happens at scale, it’s not just about privacy.
It’s about power.
And power at that level is national security.

Episode 0037 — Silicon States: Big Tech as Sovereign Actors in Global Politics.
Episode 38
Wednesday, August 12, 2026 • Duration 19:35
Every day, decisions are being made about what you can see, what you can say, and what quietly disappears — not just by governments, but by platforms.
In this episode of Midweek Sitrep, Jerry breaks down how Big Tech evolved from building tools to operating systems of power — shaping speech, influencing policy, and operating at a scale that rivals nation-states.
You’ll learn:
Why companies like Apple, Google, and Meta now perform functions once reserved for governments.
How platforms became gatekeepers of information, access, and visibility.
Where governments rely on private tech to enforce policy, security, and control.
How global competition over data, infrastructure, and platforms is reshaping geopolitics.
Because power doesn’t always sit in capitals.
Sometimes it runs through servers.
And when the systems that connect the world start to govern it.
that’s not just technology.
It’s national security.

Episode 0036 — The Control Economy: Supply chains and Logistics as Geopolitical Battlefields
Episode 37
Wednesday, July 29, 2026 • Duration 15:31
Every day, goods move across oceans, through ports, and into supply chains that keep economies running.
But behind that movement, decisions are being made about what gets through, what gets delayed, and what never arrives at all.
In this episode of Midweek Sitrep, Jerry breaks down how supply chains and logistics have become instruments of control—where routing decisions, chokepoints, and dependencies shape global power in ways most people never see.
You’ll learn:
Why supply chains are no longer neutral systems of efficiency.
How chokepoints—physical and digital—create leverage in global trade.
Where businesses are exposed to geopolitical risk through logistics.
Why control over movement matters as much as control over money or data.
Because power isn’t just about what you produce.
It’s about whether it moves.
And when movement can be slowed, redirected, or stopped altogether,
it’s not just logistics.
It’s national security.

Episode 0035 — Weapons of Influence: Culture and media as soft power tools
Episode 36
Wednesday, July 15, 2026 • Duration 14:08
Every day, the stories you watch, the music you hear, and the content that rises to the top are shaping how people see the world—what feels normal, what feels credible, and what feels worth paying attention to.
In this episode of Midweek Sitrep, Jerry breaks down how culture and media have become instruments of influence, where entertainment, platforms, and strategy intersect, and how that influence now carries real legal, business, and national security implications.
You’ll learn:
Why cultural exports function as tools of influence, not just entertainment.
How platforms and algorithms determine which narratives scale globally.
Where companies face risk when content, partnerships, and markets overlap.
How laws like FARA, sanctions, and export controls are starting to apply to influence itself.
Because influence doesn’t require control over territory.
It requires control over perception.
And when perception shapes markets, policy, and trust at scale, it’s not just culture.
It’s national security.

Episode 0034 — National Security by Design: How the United States Was Built to Survive
Episode 35
Wednesday, July 1, 2026 • Duration 19:10
America didn’t stumble into national security. It was built through it.
As the United States approaches its 250th birthday, this episode of Midweek Sitrep with Jerry Fowler looks past the familiar symbols of the founding and examines the quieter architecture that made the nation possible. Long before there were agencies, doctrines, or acronyms, the early republic was already practicing intelligence, economic leverage, and secrecy as tools of survival.
In this episode, Jerry explores how the Culper Ring, early trade restrictions and embargoes, and hard decisions about secrecy weren’t historical side stories — they were foundational systems. Together, they reveal a country designed not just to declare ideals, but to endure long enough to live up to them.
You’ll hear how:
Intelligence gave a fragile rebellion visibility it couldn’t survive without
Trade and access became tools of power before the United States was economically secure
Secrecy emerged not as a betrayal of republican ideals, but as a condition for protecting them
The logic behind modern national security has been present since the nation’s earliest days
This is not a celebration of power for its own sake. It’s a clear-eyed look at how survival shaped the American experiment, and why debates about intelligence, secrecy, trade, and security are not signs of failure, but evidence of a system still doing what it was designed to do.
Happy 250th, America.

Episode 0033 — The Machine State: AI, Automation, and the Future of Authority
Episode 34
Wednesday, June 17, 2026 • Duration 22:08
A speeding ticket from a camera on K Street feels routine. But it reflects a deeper shift in how authority is carried out.
In this episode of Midweek Sitrep with Jerry Fowler, Jerry looks at the Machine State, a condition where law and institutions still govern, but execution increasingly moves through automated systems before a human ever enters the process.
From traffic enforcement and financial controls to private platforms and AI-enabled decision systems, authority today often arrives as an outcome rather than an explanation. The rules still exist. The responsibility still exists. But power now travels through systems designed to operate quietly, at scale.
This episode traces how discretion moved upstream into system and model design, why AI changes the risk profile of execution, and why governance now lives as much in architecture as it does in policy.
The Machine State doesn’t erase authority.
It concentrates responsibility in the choices made before systems are deployed, and in whether institutions are willing to stand behind what those systems do.

Episode 0032 — No Stoppage: How the 2026 World Cup Stress-Tests a Nation
Episode 33
Wednesday, June 3, 2026 • Duration 17:38
No stoppage. No margin for error. No pause in the systems that make modern life work.
In this episode of Midweek Sitrep with Jerry Fowler, Jerry examines how the 2026 World Cup functions as a real-world stress test for a host nation. While fans focus on the matches, entire systems are operating under sustained pressure: security, transportation, borders, cyber infrastructure, public safety, and governance all have to perform continuously, in public, and at scale.
You’ll learn:
How mega-events like the World Cup create a temporary operating ecosystem around security, logistics, and enforcement
Why risk concentrates across cyber systems, public safety, crime, and information during global events
How borders, visas, and travel systems are managed when millions of people move at once
Why host nations agree to the cost and complexity in exchange for soft power, visibility, and diplomatic influence
What the World Cup reveals about national capacity, competence, and resilience under pressure
This isn’t a sports episode.
It’s a look at how modern societies function when everything has to work — without stoppage.

Episode 0031 — Cash Rules Everything: Money, Sanctions, and Finance as Weapons of Control
Episode 32
Wednesday, May 20, 2026 • Duration 20:09
Money enforces order.
In this episode of Midweek Sitrep with Jerry Fowler, Jerry examines how finance became a core instrument of national power. Beginning with the freezing of Russia’s central bank reserves after the invasion of Ukraine, the episode traces how sanctions, dollar dominance, and financial infrastructure allow states to shape global behavior without deploying military force.
The discussion covers how access to money functions as a form of sovereignty, why U.S. financial power rests on global consent rather than compulsion, how sanctioned states adapt through shadow networks and illicit finance, and how groups like BRICS are attempting to reduce reliance on Western-controlled systems.
This episode looks at finance the way national security professionals do: as infrastructure, leverage, and risk. The system works because most of the world chooses to participate in it. When that consent weakens, the balance of power shifts.

Episode 0030 — The Entertainment Complex: Hollywood and Music as Psychological Operations
Episode 31
Wednesday, May 6, 2026 • Duration 21:40
Stories move people long before policy ever does.
In this episode of Midweek Sitrep, Jerry examines a side of national security we rarely name but experience every day: entertainment.
Movies, music, and platforms don’t just reflect culture. They shape how people understand power, conflict, identity, and authority long before policy debates ever begin.
This episode explores how Hollywood, the music industry, and modern algorithms influence perception at scale. From wartime film collaboration and Cold War cultural diplomacy to protest music, streaming platforms, and recommendation systems, Jerry breaks down how stories and sound became tools of influence, persuasion, and control.
You’ll learn how entertainment functions as emotional infrastructure, why governments and corporations care so deeply about narrative control, and how modern influence works without force, commands, or censorship.
Because in a world shaped by perception, entertainment isn’t a distraction.
It’s power.
