Ep. 6 | Ryan Gore of Paper Street Customs: From Daytona to OCC to Building Award Winning Choppers in His Home Garage
Host Brad Columbus sits down with Ryan Gore, the builder behind Paper Street Customs, in the Colorado home garage where he fabricates, manufactures and ships everything he makes. Raised in Grand Junction by a Shovelhead-riding dad, Ryan was headed for a career in technical writing until an episode of Motorcycle Mania in a St. Louis hotel room sent him straight to motorcycle school instead.
Since then, bikes have taken him from the Daytona chopper boom to Big Bear Choppers, Dubai, Hungary, Switzerland and a season on camera with Paul Teutul Sr. at Orange County Choppers. Along the way, his custom builds have landed on magazine covers and his raffled parts have raised more than $25,000 for the Salem Toy Run in Salem, Oregon.
In this episode:
- A Shovelhead childhood and the TV episode that derailed an English degree
- Learning to TIG weld, run a mill and do body work at Mad Creations for $8 an hour
- From warranty manager to operations manager at Big Bear Choppers, six bikes a day
- Building shops and prototype bikes in Dubai, Hungary and Switzerland
- The oil field years and how COVID turned Paper Street Customs into a full-time gig
- Filming a season at OCC and why "no drama" meant no second season
- His first full custom, a Best in Show win and a Cycle Source cover
- Raising $25,000+ for the Salem Toy Run and why he does it
- Why he'd tell a first-time builder to find a used Evo Softail
