62: Realistic Ways to Create a Magical Holiday Season for Your Family20 Oct 202600:48:11

"It doesn't have to be perfect in order for it to be beautiful. It doesn't have to be perfect in order for it to be special. It doesn't have to be perfect in order for it to be memorable. It's not about everything being perfect. It's about everyone being together and making memories. Focus on being present, not perfect." - Stephanie Booe

The holidays can bring on a whole new level of stress, making us feel inadequate if we don't have picture perfect table scapes or photo worthy trips to the pumpkin patch. If you're already starting to feel the pressure of the holiday season, then go ahead and hit play because this episode is going to be a breath of fresh air.

As you listen, you'll be encouraged to step away from consumer culture and the pressure to overspend, overcommit, and oversaturate your holiday season with unnecessary "stuff." Instead, you'll be inspired to have slower and more intentional holidays with simple traditions that are geared towards bringing you together as a family. Running out of ideas or feeling like you have no idea where to start? No worries, mama. I have you covered. I have a full list of easy, yet effective ideas to help you intentionally pour into your family from October to December.

Somewhere along the way, we all got so caught up in overcommitting and overspending during the holiday season. We don't want to get to January feeling like we just ran a full marathon, exhausted and wondering how much money we spent. Instead, I'm bringing a new perspective to the table and I'm challenging our perspective on what really matters during this time. If you've ever felt the unnecessary pressure to create the most magical holiday for your family or your kids, this conversation will help you to feel seen and heard, while guiding you into a new way of holiday living and helping you to maximize your joy this season.

53: What Infertility Really Looks Like | The Moments We Don't Talk About23 Jun 202600:40:38

June is World Infertility Awareness Month and in honor of that, I wanted to bring a real and relatable conversation to the show where we could openly talk about all of the moments we don't normally talk about.

Infertility is hard and it can often feel lonely and isolating. I know this because I've lived it and it's been some of the hardest moments of my entire life. When people think of infertility they probably think it's a devastating experience, but don't really or truly understand what it actually *looks* like.

In today's episode, we're pulling back the curtain and talking about the moments you don't see. The crying in the bathroom, the praying during sex, the breakdown in the car on the way to a friend's baby shower - all of the moments where you feel utterly alone. I'm here to tell you today that you are not alone and you don't have to go through this alone. This episode is to help the infertile community to feel seen while helping the fertile community to better understand.

If any of this is resonating with you already, then hit play because this episode is for you. I've got my coffee and I'm ready to welcome you when you're ready because it's time to get messy.

52: 5 Easy Summer Encouragements for Moms | Permission to Have a Good Summer Without Doing it All 16 Jun 202600:36:15

I know there's a lot of pressure around summer right now and feeling like we have to show up and do it all in order to create magical memories for our kids.

In this episode, we are debunking this myth and, instead, leaning into a slower summer with our kids. This whole episode sparked by the realization that every time I opened social media, I saw some sort of "summer theme" being pushed at me. Whether it was a "hot mom summer," " 90s mom summer," "butter mom summer," and so on.

I've been thinking about this a lot and instead of finding a theme that resonates with what I want to do this summer, I decided to just have a "summer" summer with my kids. One where we release the pressure to show up and perform like a cruise director every minute of every day. Instead, I'm going to put my phone down, turn on the hose, open a popsicle, throw water balloons with my kids, and forget the rest.

Let this episode be your permission slip to slow down this summer and really spend some intentional time with your kids doing simple things with big meaning like serving ice cream for breakfast on a random Tuesday or sitting in a field looking at stars one summer night.

We talk about this all and more in this week's episode so grab your drink of choice and meet me on the couch, it's time to get messy!

In today's episode, I got to sit down and have an extended conversation with Jamie Glowacki- the Mary Poppins of parenting and potty training!

50: 6 Things I Wish I Would've Known About a Failed Embryo Transfer Before Having One02 Jun 202600:43:55

In February of this year, my husband and I experienced a failed embryo transfer and it was absolutely devastating.

We didn't know what to do, what to grieve, or how to move forward with our protocol. Now that we are a few months out from this experience, I can confidently say that we've learned a lot, grieved a lot, cried a lot, and grown a lot. It's one of the hardest things we've ever been through and unfortunately, there aren't a lot of resources or support out there to help those who go through this which is a big reason why I wanted to bring this conversation to the podcast.

In today's episode we're going to be talking about six things I wish we would've known before having a failed transfer in hopes to make others feel less alone. We'll also talk about how you can cope through this or support someone going through it.

Grab some tissues and meet me on the couch- it's time to get messy.

Mother's Day is coming soon and as special as this holiday is, it also comes with a lot of emotions that can be so hard for so many people. For the sake of today's conversation, we focus mainly on the aspect of infertility and those who are struggling to conceive.

For the infertility community, Mother's Day is a day that feels really unfair. If any of this resonates with you, I want you to know that you're not alone and in this episode we're going to talk about it all.

We're going to talk about what makes Mother's Day so hard, why so many people find it so triggering, how you can take care of yourself in this time, and how you can support a friend or family member who might be struggling this year.

It's a very real and intentional conversation. It's not an easy thing to talk about, but it's one of those things that needs to be talked about so we're doing that here. Come hang out with me on the couch and let's dive in- it's time to get messy.

42: Mama, That's Not True | 5 Motherhood Myths We Believe Every Day07 Apr 202600:35:20

Every day in motherhood we're tempted to believe a series of little lies and I call these "Motherhood Myths."

They're little lies that seep into our brain and tempt us to think that we're really doing a terrible job in motherhood when, in reality, we're doing so much better than we think we are. Today, we're debunking all five of these motherhood myths and choosing to speak truth over our motherhood journey!

The goal for today's episode is to help you feel encouraged in motherhood because I want you to know that you're a freaking rockstar and I see you doing all of those hard things day in and day out. You're doing a great job and I really want to take a second to help you to see that too. Consider this your loving kick in the pants to set you on the right path for the week - no matter where you are in motherhood.

If this resonates with you, I would be honored if you would share the show with another mom friend and please leave a rating or review for the show!

41: It's Not a Joke | The Harm Behind April Fool's Day Pregnancy Announcements 31 Mar 202600:34:38

I'm just going to say it: pregnancy announcements are not a joke and there are a million reasons why.

In today's episode, we're unpacking the topic of using a fake pregnancy announcement as an April Fool's Day joke and how harmful that can be not only via social media, but also within your marriage or social group. I also take some time to empathize with the infertility community and brainstorm some ideas on how you can protect your heart on this day.

I know that a lot of times this joke can be made out of a lack of understanding, so let's talk about it! Let's talk about all of the reasons why this joke really doesn't land the way people expect it to and why people could actually be really triggered by seeing this joke pop up on their social media feed or in real life. The tone for this episode is not to shame those who have done this, but more so to create a sense of empathy and understanding!

I hope this episode blesses you and if you enjoy it, I encourage you to leave a rating and a review for the show or share it to your social media- thank you for being here!

40: Presence Over Presents | Reclaiming the Joy and Simplicity of Kids’ Birthday Parties24 Mar 202600:38:52

I'm just going to say it- kid's birthday parties have gotten out of hand. Social media has completely corrupted our whole perspective on what a successful kid's birthday party should be and when we're constantly seeing these expensive, well executed birthday parties we start to feel less than if we aren't showing up in the same way.

Today's podcast episode breaks this stigma and encourages us to reclaim the joy and simplicity of kid's birthday parties. I encourage you to think about some of the impactful things that you remember from your own childhood birthday parties while also helping you to feel the freedom to throw the party that feels best for you.

Big, lavish parties can be so special- we all know this to be true; however, I want us to come back to a place where it's the "sometimes" thing and not the "always" thing. If you have a birthday coming up in your family, I encourage you to listen to this and I hope you leave this episode feeling a breath of fresh air as you step forward in your parenting journey.

38: Our Journey to a Third Baby | Our Failed Embryo Transfer & How to Support Someone Through It10 Mar 202600:56:05

This isn't the story I expected to be sharing, but this is the one we get to share.

Many of you have followed our journey to a third baby through social media or through this podcast and now it's time to bring a close to this chapter of our story. Our beta day from our embryo transfer ended differently than we had hoped and when we got the call, we found out that our transfer had failed.

In today's episode, I am sharing this story of grief while also sharing the bits of hope that I still feel are open to us. This episode is real, raw, and vulnerable as I openly share a breakdown of our beta day followed by a highlight of the weeks since we got the call.

If you've experienced a failed embryo transfer, I hope this episode brings you a sense of comfort or support wherever you are in your journey. If you know someone who has gone through this, I hope you find tangible pieces of support that you can pass on to your loved ones.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for being here and I hope this episode blesses you in some way.

37: Six Things I Wish I Knew About Infertility Before Being Diagnosed with It02 Mar 202600:46:45

Don't you wish that you could go back and give yourself a heads up about a few things during a particular hard time in your life?

My husband and I were diagnosed with unexplained infertility in 2018 and we've been through so much ever since the day we got our diagnosis. There are so many things that I wish I could go back and tell myself. Not that it would've made it any easier, but maybe it would've softened the blow? I'm honestly not sure, but I was recently thinking about this whole idea- if I could go back and tell myself a few things, what would I say?

And that's what led to this episode on the podcast! I started making a list and let's just say, that list is rather long. I decided to cut it down to "Six Things I Wish I Knew About Infertility Before Being Diagnosed with It" sharing personal snippets from our story as we navigate this conversation.

If you're a fellow infertility warrior, just know that I'm sending you a huge hug and stay tuned because I'll probably follow this up with another part- there's so much to talk about! In the meantime, hit play on this episode and just know that you are so loved and you're not alone.

36: Understanding IUI: What It Looks Like and How to Support Someone Going Through It25 Feb 202600:50:51

Welcome back to another episode of Messy Motherhood! We've been digging into the IVF world a lot lately, but in this week's episode we're going to take a small pivot to help cater our care to the IUI community.

My husband, Alex, and I went through five IUI procedures at the start of our journey and I remember feeling so utterly lost and alone. We didn't know anyone else who was navigating the murky waters of infertility and as our doctor talked about different options, we literally felt like she was speaking another language.

Whether you're just now starting your journey with infertility or you know someone who is going through it, this episode is here to give you a full breakdown so you can better understand this aspect of the infertility world. I share our own personal experience followed by a bunch of tips and tricks to help you get through it and we end by talking about the best support for an IUI Warrior.

Our experience with IUIs is a tender and challenging part of our journey. There are so many things I wish I would've known before stepping into this world and that's a big reason for today's episode.

I hope this blesses you wherever you are in your journey and helps you to know that you're not alone!

35: Our Journey to a Third Baby | Embryo Transfer 102: The Transfer, The Waiting, and All the Tender Parts In Between10 Feb 202601:04:36

"Infertility is a full time job. It's a full time job full of emotions, hopes, dreams, appointments, medications and more. You're learning how to navigate this while you're also living your life, working an actual full time job, and maintaining a social life." -Stephanie Booe

Grab your notebook and come join us on the yellow submarine sofa as we guide you through Embryo Transfer 102. We're picking up from where we left off in Episode 33 so be sure to listen to that first if you haven't already. We left that ultrasound with a review of the process all the way up to the mid-cycle ultrasound and this episode continues on from that appointment. We talk you through the emotional, logistical, and mental aspect leading up to the embryo transfer day followed by the full story of our third embryo transfer and what that day looked like for us. We end the episode by touching on the brutal two week wait that comes after the embryo transfer and before signing off, we make sure to give you a bunch of tangible tools or tips to help you know how to support someone going through this.

Our hope with this episode is to help other infertility warriors feel less alone while also helping others to better understand the process of an embryo transfer with IVF. That being said, consider this part journal entry and part informational packet. We wanted to share our own personal experience as we navigate our third embryo transfer, but we also really wanted to help you understand what these days really look like if this is something you're getting ready to step into.

We hope this episode blesses you wherever you are in your journey and just know that we are cheering you on from afar.

25: Rejoicing in the Waiting Room | Learning How to Celebrate Others in the Midst of Your Own Struggle 11 Nov 202500:40:24

"Sometimes it really does feel like every single person around you is getting pregnant and you're not and you're standing still wondering what you're doing wrong. Then you hear this common phrase, "there must be something in the water because everyone's getting pregnant" and you're asking if you can have some of that water because you feel like you're drinking from the wrong sink." -Stephanie Booe

Learning how to celebrate others while you're in the midst of your own struggle is a painful process. Sometimes it really does feel like everyone around you is getting what you so desperately desire while you're left standing still and when that happens, it's hard to know what to do or how to move forward.

If any of this resonates with you, then you're invited to come join Stephanie on the yellow submarine sofa to have a candid conversation about how to celebrate others while you're still in the thick of the struggle.

Stephanie walks you through some of the painful, real life moments of her own journey where she had to do this and then gives you a simple six step guideline to help you navigate these murky and uncharted waters. No matter where you are in your journey, you'll leave this episode feeling like you have a breath of fresh air and a new hope for the future.

24: Our Journey to a Third Baby | An Honest Conversation on Fertility, Integrative Health, and IVF06 Nov 202500:42:41

"I think that we were expectant that God was going to show up on this journey to baby number three in a way that we had never really experienced Him before and I will go ahead and tell you- that happened. God has shown up in ways that we've never experienced before, but it wasn't in the way we were hoping and it wasn't in the way we were expecting." - Stephanie Booe

The journey to parenthood can be messy and as you know, Stephanie and Alex are no strangers to the struggles of conception. At the start of 2024, they started the journey to their third baby, but it was a different type of journey. One with more in-depth testing with the hope of having a better understanding of their diagnosis of unexplained infertility.

In this episode, Stephanie takes you on the journey of searching for answers via a more natural approach including integrative and hormone health, seed cycling, extensive bloodwork, parasite cleanses, and more. She's spilling the tea on their journey to baby number three and all of the things she's done or learned along the way before ending the episode with their steps moving forward. There's a lot to unpack in this episode and there are definitely parts that will resonate with you- whether it be in your journey of faith, fertility, or journey to parenthood.

"I’ve had people tell me they’re sorry when they hear that Alex and I struggled to conceive and my answer is and forever be— I’m not. I’m not sorry that this was our story because it brought us closer to God and that’s the ultimate prize, right? Did we struggle? Yes. Was it worth it? Absolutely. " - Stephanie Booe
