2024 and The Changes in Conversations Around Menopause09 Dec 202400:34:48

This year has marked a significant shift in how menopause is perceived and discussed, both globally and in our region. We've witnessed a great move towards openness and support.

In Australia we have seen a Senate inquiry into perimenopause and menopause, resulting in 25 recommendations aimed at better supporting women. In New Zealand, we’ve seen organisations like Gender at Work being instrumental in promoting menopause awareness and celebrating World Menopause Day on October 18, 2024, with resources designed to smash stigma and highlight support options.

Globally, high-profile women like Michelle Obama, Naomi Watts, Halle Berry & more, have been candid about their menopause journeys, further normalising the conversation and advocating for increased research and education on menopause.

In addition to this, we talk through some other key highlights including:

  • Menopause-inclusive workplace initiatives in New Zealand and beyond.
  • Breakthrough research on hormone therapy and its impact on health.
  • Lifestyle Implications and the role of active lifestyles in managing menopause symptoms.
  • Personal wins, challenges, and reflections from our host, including the success of the embrace Program.
  • The M Factor Movie.
  • A couple of great books to explore to support your menopause transition & symptoms.

As we wrap up the year, I encourage you to reflect on your wins and lessons learned. We tend to focus on what we didn’t achieve or what went wrong, but let’s focus on what you did do really well, what lessons you learned even if through challenging times and what has this led you to do differently?

What are you ready to leave behind in 2024, and what are your goals for 2025?

Join our community in the Menopause Conversations Facebook group. Here's to thriving in 2025 with even more progress in the Menopause transition space.

The Menopause Senate Inquiry with Sonya Lovell02 Dec 202400:56:48

Were you aware of Australia's Senate inquiry into Menopause over the past few months?

If not, you're not alone.

In today’s episode of Menopause Conversations, I’m joined by Sonya Lovell, an advocate for challenging societal stigmas and taboos, and for promoting better education and resources for all people as they transition through menopause.

Sonya’s journey began at 47 when she experienced induced menopause due to breast cancer treatment. Feeling overwhelmed, unsupported, and under-educated about menopause, Sonya struggled to understand what was happening to her rapidly changing health.

Experiencing anxiety, mild depression, and a host of other physical symptoms, Sonya set off on a mission to understand everything she could about peri-menopause and menopause.

This has led her to recently presenting at the Senate inquiry into Peri-Menopause and Menopause, and she’s here to discuss:

  • What a Senate inquiry is and why it was necessary
  • What unfolded during the inquiry
  • Who participated, including people with lived experiences, health professionals, government bodies, University Representatives
  • The key recommendations and next steps

We also explore how every one of us can contribute to ensuring these recommendations are implemented—whether by writing to local and federal representatives or initiating conversations at schools, workplaces, and in our personal lives.

Menopause impacts everyone: over 50% of the population will directly experience the transition, and 100% will feel its ripple effects. By starting conversations and advocating for change, we can make a significant difference for the generations to come.

This inspiring & encouraging episode highlights the power of advocacy, education, and conversation in creating real change.

I encourage you to learn more about Sonya Lovell and what you can do to advocate for change by taking a look at these resources:

Ageing is an Attitude with Lynda Dyer02 Oct 202400:40:30

In this week's episode of Menopause Conversations, I sit down with Lynda Dyer, an accomplished coach, speaker, and author of 11 best-selling books, as well as an NLP Master Trainer, to explore the mindset around aging. We live in a society that often glorifies youth, leaving many older women feeling invisible or unworthy. But is it solely society’s influence, or do our personal and family beliefs about aging play a role too?

Lynda, the author of Age is an Attitude, shares insights on how we can reshape our experience of growing older by changing our perspective on aging. She also dives into fascinating research by Dr. Mario Martinez, a clinical neuropsychologist, who examines how cultural beliefs impact our health and longevity.

Lynda's key takeaway? Let go of anything that no longer serves you as you embrace the journey of aging. For Lynda, 70 is the new 50.

Share your biggest takeaway from this conversation on Instagram or Facebook and feel free to tag me @angelacounsel. I’d love to hear how you're planning to shift your mindset around aging!

The 4 Stages of Menopause20 Mar 202200:10:55

Many women think that menopause is a single event that happens when in fact it is a time of transition. This transition can take up to 12 years (maybe even longer) to occur and for most women this transition generally starts in their early 40s. This is when hormones gradually start to shift, and some symptoms might start to occur. It is important to note that every woman’s transition is different, so ages and symptoms could vary.

If you have had a full hysterectomy or some cancer treatments then you will likely skip all four stages and go straight to post-menopause.

The 4 phases are as follows:

Phase 1 – Very early peri-menopause

  • Can start in late 30 to early 40s
  • Generally last between 2-5 years
  • Cycles can shorten to 21-26 days
  • Less progesterone
  • More oestrogen which can lead to heavier periods, increased period pain, migraines and sleep problems

Phase 2 – peri-menopause

  • Starts around mid 40s
  • Can last up to 5 years
  • Your cycle can start to become more irregular
  • Progesterone is lower, due to missed ovulation
  • Oestrogen is fluctuating up and down, and when it drops it goes lower than before this can trigger worse hot flushes

Phase 3 – late peri-menopause transition

  • This phase can last for up to 4 years
  • This is when you start to miss periods and have cycles that can last over 60 days (note – cycle is time between bleed)
  • Hot flushes and night sweats could get worse
  • Breast pain should ease
  • you might still have a couple of very heavy periods

Phase 4 – menopause transition

  • This is the time when you are waiting to see if your last period was really your last
  • This period is 12 months
  • Symptoms should start to ease as oestrogen levels stabilise at a lower level

Once you haven’t had a period for 12 months you are now post-menopausal for the rest of your life.

In future episodes, I will share with you more about what happens with each of your specific hormones in each of these phases, starting with Progesterone.

Breaking the Gender Bias08 Mar 202200:28:31

I am back after 12 months break with a re-vamped podcast.  New name and new content.  As I re-launch this podcast it is International Women's Day and the theme for this year is #breakthebias and I thought that I would talk about the bias that happens in healthcare and medical research.  For too long women have been dismissed when it comes to what is considered complicated health problems.  The terms hysteria, attention seeking and emotional are words that are often used when women speak to their Drs about the way that they feel especially when standard testing doesn't reveal anything significant.  Unfortunately many Drs simply don't understand enough about women's hormones and particularly the changes that happen as women move through menopause.  It is time for this bias to stop!

I am passionate about educating women about how their hormones work because I believe with knowledge comes power and when women have a better understanding of the changes that are happening in their body they can make more informed choices rather than relying on the limited knowledge of someone else.

Going AF wit Mitlè Southey30 Nov 202000:55:06
When I first heard the term going AF, I wasn't sure what it meant until I asked Mitlè Southey to explain it to me. In this episode of Wise Women Conversations we chat about being alcohol free (AF), I am not sure why we need another label but here we are. Mitlè shares her journey with alcohol and how she got to the stage where she considers herself to be AF. I also don't drink alcohol, I stopped drinking it 2 years ago because I was sick of being in constant pain. Once I stopped the small amount of alcohol that I was drinking all of my body and muscle pain went away. I don't really miss the alcohol and I also don't miss the constant chatter in my head about whether I will drink or not on a night out, Mitlè talks about this in our conversation. Alcohol has serious impacts on our health and wellbeing, yet many women are reluctant to give it up. Society has taught us that we can turn to alcohol in the good times and the bad, in the happy times and the sad. Listen to this open conversation between Mitlè and me and make up you own mind about your relationship with alcohol. To learn more about the work Mitlè does visit her website - mitlesouthey.com or follow her on instragram - @mitlesouthey. Intimacy and Menopause17 Nov 202001:02:56
In this week's episode of Wise Women Conversations I am talking with Janet McGeever who is the Co-Author of Tantric Sex and Menopause (with Diana Richardson). This was a beautiful conversation with Janet gently sharing how it is possible to be intimate after menopause despite the changes that happening in our body's. Janet's book and this conversation is about relearning what we think we know about intimate relationships. She shares the importance of understanding energy, receiving and giving, when it comes to intimacy. I really enjoyed this conversation with Janet, her voice is so gentle and she holds space while we talk about a topic that can be a sensitive one for many women. I thoroughly enjoyed reading her book and had many ahha moments as I was reading through. Looking after your brain as you age27 Oct 202000:39:38
Many women are afraid of deteriorating brain health as they age, this is particularly significant for women who have had a parent with dementia or Alzheimer's Disease. This week is Alzheimers Disease Awareness week so I thought I would talk about what you an do to improve your brain health and reduce your risk of neuro-cognitive diseases. I share with you 10 things that you can do to reduce your risk of Alzheimer's Disease or dementia. The earlier that you address these 10 things the more likely you will remain healthy and alert as you grow older. It is believed that there is a window of opportunity between 40 and 50 where women can prevent the progression of neuro-degeneration. We know that women are more likely to experience neuro-degeneration than men and now there is research being done to see the role that menopause plays as well. This research is showing that there is a hormonal switch that occurs as oestrogen starts to drop that increases the risk of Alzheimer's Disease. That doesn't mean that there is nothing that you an do to protect your brain. Listen to the entire episode to learn the 10 steps that you can take, you will find that they are very similar to the steps that I often talk about when it comes to navigating menopause with ease. Please share this episode with another women who you think would benefit from learning more about improving her brain health as she ages. Also let me know in the comments what you are going to do to improve your brain health or ask me any questions that you might have.

Sleep is one of the most common issues that concerns women as the move through menopause. As your progesterone levels drop you can find yourself having problems with your sleep but it is not only progesterone that can cause issues with your sleep. Your sleep habits play a very big role and many people have unhealthy sleep habits. In this recording I provide an overview about sleep cycles and what impacts them plus I also share some simple things you can do to support healthy sleep cycles so that you wake refreshed. Creating Calm with Horses07 Oct 202000:48:08
In this week's episode of Wise Women Conversations I am chatting with Lynn Jenkin from Horsanity. Lynn has lived a varied life in many countries and had many different careers but the one constant in her life has been horses. Now Lynn combines her love of horses into her coaching business. Lynn shares that the horses don't do anything except "be" horses but it is within this beingness that we can learn to connect to ourselves and to the horses. We talk a lot about energy, the energy we give out and the energy that horses can give us. Lynn also shares some of the stories that she has seen played out when different people experience the energy of the horses. This was a very calming conversation, Lynn has obviously learned how to use energy like a horse with all of her years living with them. Have a listen to the entire episode to learn about the role that horses can play in helping us re-write our stories and to connect with ourselves. Anxiety and Menopause28 Sep 202000:30:22
I recently posted on my instagram account asking women to ask questions about what they were struggling with when it came to menopause, anxiety came a up a few times. On this episode of Wise Women Conversations I decided to talk about anxiety, what it is, what causes it and what you can do to manage your anxiety without having to take pharmaceutical drugs. Anxiety is different for everyone, some women feel over-excited, others have a racing heart, other women will simply shut down and freeze. It is often accompanied by a shortness of breath which can cause pains in the chest, dizziness or a sense of doom. Lowered levels of progesterone can play a role in the increase in anxiety attacks as women move through menopause but anxiety can also be caused by an imbalance in brain neurotransmitters, GABA and Glutamate. There is a difference between stress and anxiety. Stress is the body's physical response to a physical or emotional threat, this threat can be real or perceived. Stress is about the past, a remembering of a previous situation that caused trauma or an emotional response (this is all sub-conscious and you don't know it is happening) Anxiety is an emotional response to something that might or might not happen that can leave you feel like things are out of control. Anxiety is a fear of the future, of something that doesn't exist anywhere except your own mind. Whilst anxiety is an emotional response you can have a very physical response to the anxiety e.g. panic attacks, addictions, cravings and more. There are many ways that you can control your anxiety and it starts with self- care. In this episode I share with you many tools that you can use to manage your anxiety. These tools include diet, exercise, herbs, nutrients, essential oils plus more.

Franziska is always looking for great moments of humanity and she found many when she decided to take a motorbike ride across one of the most difficult and notorious highways in the world - the Silk Road. No your body wont go back to the way it was10 Sep 202000:10:12
I often get asked will my body return to the way it was and my simple answer to that question is - NO! In this episode of the Wise Women Conversations podcast I am sharing why your body won't go back to the way it was. I talk about how the changes that happen with your body at menopause change the way in which your body works and how it can never go back to functioning the way that it did. But this isn't a bad thing. Do you really want to have a monthly period? Do you really want to worry about falling pregnant every month? Do you really want to continue paying for sanitary products? There are so many benefits to being in menopause. The biggest benefit is that this is your time to create the life that you want. It is time for you to own your inner wise woman. It is a time for you to be a role model for younger women. You have so much potential in this time of life. Menopause doesn't need to be a struggle, you can make a decision that you will embrace the changes that are happening and make the decision to work with your body rather than against it. If you are ready to learn how you can navigate this time of life with ease why not join the free 7 Day Hormone Reset that kicks off on Sept 20th. The link to register is bit.ly/7day_hormone_reset.
Women Re-Inventing Midlife01 Sep 202000:37:48
Recently I was a guest on the Women Re-Inventing Midlife Summit with Deb Johnstone and Deb gave me permission to share the interview on this podcast. Deb and I chat about the changes that happen to women as they come to mid-life and how important it is to look after your body at this time of life. I believe that if you can reduce your physical symptoms then this reduces your emotional stress and you can look at the world through a brighter lens. It is really difficult to have a positive outlook on life when you are in constant pain, or your body breaks out in a complete sweat every 30 minutes. This is why I help focus women on addressing their physical health first and when they feel better they naturally make better decisions for themselves. Deb is a Life and Career Coach and you can learn more about the work that she does at her website - https://www.debjohnstone.com.au/
Menopause is not to blame24 Aug 202000:21:02
This episode of Wise Women Conversations is another solo one from me and it is a bit of a rant. I am not sorry that I recorded this episode because I think that we need to shift our thinking around menopause but I do apologise to anyone who might be offended by what I have to say, it is never my intention to upset or harm anyone with my thoughts. I am sick of hearing the phrase "menopause sucks", then followed by a litany of symptoms that someone might be experiencing. There also seems to be many symptoms that are being blamed on menopause when there are many different causes. In fact menopause doesn't CAUSE any symptoms but it might TRIGGER symptoms to occur, if there is something underlying that is not supporting your health and wellbeing. Women who are alive today are privileged to be spending so much of their life in menopause, because if we go back a couple of generations women simply learnt living long enough to spend much time in menopause. The female body was designed to reproduce, that is it's role in nature and when they are no longer of reproductive age their value in nature declines. Of course we live in a modern society and women definitely have a societal and personal value once they stop menstruating but our body starts to breakdown and needs more care to recover and regenerate. This means that we, as women, need to change the way that we see our body and how we treat it. The main message of this episode is that menopause is not the end, it does not need not be a struggle. Menopause is the beginning of the next stage of your life, which hopefully will last for 45+ years. You have the opportunity to create the life that you want in the future. You have the opportunity to do the things you have always wanted to do. You have the opportunity to be the woman you have always wanted to be. To create what you want will require you to change. To change the food that you eat To change the way you move your body To change the amount of toxins you are exposed to To change the amount of stress that you live with To change the way that you think about menopause and ageing. Are you ready to change? Grab your free copy of the Understanding Menopause E-book to learn more about what is happening to your body and what you can do to live the life that you desire. Changing your Fashion Style as you Age19 Aug 202000:45:56
As we get older our fashion style can change due to a changing body shape, the differences in your skin and your (possible) change in hair colour. Just because everything is changing doesn't mean you have to lose your sense of style. This week I am chatting to Silvana Patrick who is a Personal Stylist about how we can maintain a sense of style as we age. Silvana has a background in the fashion industry and spent some time working for Vogue New York. But with a sense of disillusionment she left and spent the next few years working in the corporate world. Luckily for the world Silvana realised that she could help women and men discover their personal sense of style. As someone who thinks that I have no style whatsoever, I was pleased when Silvana shared that everyone has style whether they realised it or not. One of the key things that Silvana said that really resonated with me was that she helped women "fall in love with the mirror." This was a big ahha for me as someone who has avoided looking in the mirror in the past because I didn't like what I was seeing. I also experienced a lot of shame about my weight and bodyshape over the past few years when I put almost 15kgs as I moved through menopause. I have now lost 13kgs and am more comfortable looking in the mirror again, I am not quite at the falling in love stage yet but using some of the tips that Silvana shared I think that I will get there. Regardless of whether you dress for how you feel (like me) or how you look, Silvana has some great advice to share in this conversation. Menopause in the Workplace with Thea O'Connor17 Sep 202400:47:52

This week's podcast topic is such an important one as we focus on Menopause in the Workplace.

For many years the topic of menopause was not discussed in public and certainly was not spoken about in the workplace. In fact, a study showed that when asked, women felt a sense of secrecy, isolation, being too scared to speak up because of the stigma around the topic and being discriminated against.

One in four women consider leaving their job when in menopause, yet, more and more menopausal women are in the workplace, so it is so important that we start talking about what is happening to them and find ways to assist them to fulfil their job roles.

Women report that their greatest concern at work is their brain fog and inability to retain information, this leaves them fearing that they will lose their jobs and impacts their confidence. This is where my guest Thea O'Connor comes in.

Thea's program 'menopause at work' focusses on helping organisation's become menopause-friendly through awareness, education and small workplace support. As a result, this can increase the engagement & retention of some of the work forces more experienced people. After all, it is a natural and temporary stage of life.

It is up to all of us to start having more open conversations about menopause and to stop treating it as a joke or as a medical condition. I loved this conversation and I hope that you do as well, please let us know what you thought by leaving a review.

Visit the https://www.thea.com.au/menopause-at-work/ website for more information and learn about the amazing work Thea is doing.

Let’s talk about the essence of what makes us female.

Creating a new normal13 Aug 202000:14:01
Many women tell me that they want their body to feel 'normal' again but maybe what you think is normal was really your hormones protecting you from the harm that you have been doing to it through your food choices, the toxins you are exposed to and the stress that you can been under. In this week's episode of Wise Women Conversations I speak about change and accepting that your body will never be the same as it was when you were in your mid 20s. If your hormones are protecting you, then as your hormones drop that natural protection drops as well and this means that if you want to feel better then it is up to you to make some changes so that you can create your own new 'normal' way of feeling. It is possible for you to feel energetic, vital and full of life as you move into the next stage of your life, you simply need to embrace the changes that are happening, start to put yourself first and nurture your body.
Medically Induced Menopause04 Aug 202000:38:18
In this week's episode of Wise Women Conversations I am speaking to Doris Mounsey about her health journey and how that led her to experience medically induced menopause. I often speak about natural menopause but when you have medical conditions or treatments that result in you being in menopause prematurely things can be very different. Women in this situation often experience sudden and severe symptoms as the body has to quickly adjust to the dramatic loss of hormones. This was Doris's experience and she was left feeling lost and alone as the Drs didn't really have any solutions for her. Have a listen to the story that Doris has to share, of how she found a way to manage her symptoms naturally and now helps other women who are on a similar journey to what Doris has been on. You can learn more about Doris on her website - www.dorismounsey.com or on Facebook - https://www.facebook.com/YogaKinesiologyWorkshops/ You can also read the article that prompted me to have Doris as a guest on the show here - https://instituteforintuitiveintelligence.com/spiritually-fierce-magazine/ If you have enjoyed this episode or any of the previous episodes of Wise Women Conversations please leave a review on Apple Podcasts or wherever you are listening to this podcast.
The importance of having a Vision29 Jul 202000:30:19
This week' episode is another solo one from me and I am talking about having a vision. Now you might wonder what has having a vision have to do with reducing your hot flushes or losing weight. It has everything to do with it. It is quite easy to get stuck in the pain and discomfort of the various symptoms that you are experiencing. I don't want to dismiss the way that you are feeling but if you don't have a vision for how you want to feel it is very hard to make changes. Einstein is quoted as saying "the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over but expecting a different result." Often women ask me how to 'treat' menopause, my first answer is that you can't 'treat' menopause because it is a natural stage of life. I know that they are often looking for a pill to fix how they are feeling, but a pill won't fix anything it will only mask what is really going on. If you want to feel differently you need to do things differently. It is so much easier to make change if you know what it is that you want rather than trying make things go away. If you spend your life focusing on everything that you don't like about your body and your health, you get stuck in this place. Creating a vision for something is the easiest way to start moving forward.
Minding Your Money23 Jul 202000:35:36
Our money beliefs can impact so many different areas of our lives including our health and often we are not even aware that this is happening. In this week's episode of Wise Women Conversations I chat with Money Coach Jane Walters. Jane was a Financial Advisor for many years until she realised that while she was giving her clients the best advice it was their beliefs around money that was stopping them from getting the financial freedom that they desired. Jane then decided to become a coach so that she could help her clients to address their beliefs around money. Many women in midlife were bought up to believe that money doesn't grow on trees and that it was the husband's role to provide financially for the family while the wife raised the children. While this is likely not how we are living our lives today, those belief systems are still embedded somewhere in the sub-conscious mind and might be impacting your financial decisions today. It is not uncommon for women in mid-life to not have enough superannuation to support them for the rest of their life, this means that many women need to work for a lot longer than they might want to. Women are also living longer, so need more money to survive. All of these factors can leave women with very little money and options as they age. This is a fascinating conversation with Jane as she shares some tips to help you to change your beliefs around money so that you can protect yourself financially in the future. To learn more about the work that Jane does or to grab her free workshop to help you to improve your money mindset visit her website - www.janekwalters.com Jane is also on Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn was @janekwalters
Celebrating Silver Sirens16 Jul 202000:48:53
This week's episode of Wise Women Conversations is a re-published conversation that I had with Faith Agugu who is the creator of a fantastic event for mid-life women called Silver Sirens. Faith invited me along to her last event and it was fantastic to see such a great line up of women who are in mid-life sharing their stories and wisdom. Faith has a special interest in the mental health in African and Australian aboriginal communities and in this conversation we also touch on a very important topic and Faith shares how she got involved with an organisation called GMAR (Grandmothers Against Removals). The removal of children from aboriginal families and communities is something that needs to be changed. Even if it is deemed that it is unsafe for a child to stay with their family, the first option should be to find someone else in the community to look after this child and this is not happening. As a racial wellness coach this topic is very close to Faith's heart. Have a listen to this conversation and learn more about Faith and Aunty Hazel. If you would like to attend this year's online Silver Sirens event visit bit.ly/silver_sirens_event to learn more and purchase your ticket
Saving Children07 Jul 202000:56:51
This episode of Wise Women Conversations Podcast is a little different from normal. The first difference is that I have a Wise Man on the podcast rather than a Wise Woman. The second difference is the topic - saving children from sex trafficking. I wish that I didn't have to have this conversation with Marc but the work that Marc does with Destiny Rescue is real and it is needed. Destiny Rescue is a Not-for-Profit organisation started in Australia over 18 years ago, and is dedicated to fighting the trafficking and sexual exploitation of children in seven nations. Their highly trained agents run covert and raid rescue operations, day and night to locate and rescue children being used and abused. With the ongoing support of generous donors, Destiny Rescue has successfully liberated over 5,200 individual victims of human trafficking. They have been instrumental in the closing of many bars, clubs and brothels known to be targeting children for sex work, and have seen numerous perpetrators prosecuted. Their tireless work has also helped keep hundreds more young ones from entering the sex trade through various local community prevention programs and delivered justice and care for those who have been rescued. I didn't say much in this episode because I felt that I needed to be quiet and let Marc share the story of these children. By the end of the episode I was in tears. If there is anything that you can do to assist please visit www.destinyrescue.org and either give a one time gift or help to rescue a child.
Understanding Menopause03 Jul 202000:54:07

Overcoming Childhood Trauma25 Jun 202000:50:47
In this episode of Wise Women Conversations I chat with Beverley Webb from Step Forward Coaching. Beverley had a really tough childhood but she managed to survive and eventually become a very successful business woman. But Beverley hadn't left the trauma of her childhood behind her, it started to show up in her health and also her relationship with her children. After losing everything, including her health, Beverley saw this as the chance to remove the masks that she had been hiding behind and find her voice. Once Beverley healed the trauma of her childhood she knew that she had to help others find their voice as well. As a constant high achiever managed to retrain as a coach in a short time frame so that she could start helping others as soon as she could. Beverley that silence makes the guilt and shame worse, this is why she believes it is her legacy is to use her voice to hep others and she does this every single day with her words and her actions. This was a truly inspiring conversation that I thoroughly enjoyed. To learn more about the work that Beverley does you can visit her website - www.stepforwardcoaching.online, her instagram is @stepforward_tohaveavoice and her facebook is @beverleywebb

In this week's episode of Wise Women Conversations I am sharing 3 facebook live recordings that I have done over the past couple of weeks. I was answering some of the common questions that I receive about menopause. The topics that I have included in this episode are 3 of the most common symptoms that women can experience - hot flushes, weight gain and body pain. I share with you what the cause of these symptoms are and what you can do to relieve them. As you listen to each of the topics I think you will start to notice a theme when it comes to the cause and treatment of these different symptoms.
Strong Healthy Women10 Jun 202000:50:53

Menopause & Relationships with Iman Iskander09 Sep 202400:39:54

On this week's episode of Menopause Conversations we revisit a previous episode (previously the Wise Women Conversations Podcast), and look at what happens to relationships as you move through your menopause years.

For some women it is a time of new beginnings, for others it is a time of endings, and some may find relationships challenging so in this episode I chat with Couples Counsellor Iman Iskander to talk through all of this.

Iman shares the different stages a relationship goes through and what happens if we happen to get stuck at a particular stage of relationship development. We also talk about women who “stay for the kids” and what happens once their kids are older and no longer dependent on them.

Relationships with one person for a lifetime can be hard, but are we really supposed to be with the same person for our entire adult life? This is the question that I ask Iman and she shares different research studies that show whether this is a good thing or not. This leads to a conversation about different cultures and how they see relationships and the role of women.

This was a great conversation and I am grateful to Iman for sharing her expertise in this episode, it certainly got me thinking about my relationship. Will I be looking to move to the country and setup a community of only women? Only time will tell, but I do already have the farm in the country!!!

Cossie (Swimsuit) Confidence27 May 202000:41:42
Have you ever felt embarrassed to go to the beach in your swimsuit? Have you hidden your body underneath an oversized top? Then this episode of Wise Women Conversations is a must listen to for you. I am having a chat with Anita McLachlan from Sequins and Sand which is an online store that sells swimsuits (or cossies in Australia), leisurewear and travel wear. As Anita was speaking to her customers when they were trying to find the best swimsuit for them she realised that many women simply didn't feel confident being seen in their swimwear. She heard stories of women who were missing out on fun holidays with their family because they were embarrassed about the way that they looked. This led Anita to create a campaign called the Cossie Confidence Campaign which was designed to help women to feel confident in their swimsuit and to celebrate their body. This campaign not only allowed to hear the stories of these beautiful women it allowed the women to finally put themselves first and have some fun. As you listen to this podcast you will hear the passion that Anita has for supporting women to be proud of their body and to enjoy their life. Anita continues to run the Cossie Confidence campaign and is currently planning this year's campaign. If you are interested in being a part of this campaign pop over the Anita's website -www.sequinsandsand.com.au and click on the button. Anita also shared her vision for bringing several hundred women in their swimsuits together on to a beach and having a drone fly over and take photos of everyone celebrating. I for one am keen to see this happen and Anita and I spoke about how we could make this happen together, so watch this space. You can find Anita on facebook - https://www.facebook.com/sequinsandsand.com.au/ - and each week Anita brings speakers to do some facebook lives, so check out some of these videos over on facebook. Anita is offering all listeners of the Wise Women Conversations Podcast a beautiful scarf with any purchase from her Clothing/Travelwear Section if you use the code ANGELACOUNSEL. This offer is only until June 30th 2020 and cannot be used with any other offer. Only 1 scarf per person.

In this episode I cover the Solar Plexus and Heart Chakras. The Solar Plexus chakra is all about your gut both physically and emotionally while the Heart chakra is about love and it is also our bridge between our physical and spiritual being. As a bonus I have created an e-book that includes all of the information that I share in these episodes plus more. You can access the e-book by visiting bit.ly/chakra-ebook and completing your details and then I will email the e-book to you. Unravelling Your Story13 May 202000:55:42
In this week's episode with Sandy McDonald we talk about the stories of hope, inspiration and connection that we all have. Sandy shares her story from almost bankrupt to creating a world wide movement that has helped 10s of thousands of children in Sth Africa. When Sandy started knitting squares for her Aunt in Sth Africa she never realised the difference she would make and the stories that she would become a custodian of. The international charity that Sandy started continues today without Sandy at the helm but in the very capable hands of a community of knitters around the world. Sandy took her experience and decided to re-write her own story to become the wise woman that she is today. In this conversation Sandy shares: •why it is important not to define yourself by a label (job title, mother, wife, daughter etc) rather to see these as experiences, as part of your body of knowledge •how writing your story is a way of unpacking the value that you bring to the worldHer most important message was that your stories don't define your value, you don't need validation from others because your experience is your value. In 2014 Sandy presented at TedX Melbourne where she shared her story, if you would like to watch the video click HERE You can learn more about the work that Sandy does via her website - http://sandymcdonald.com/

I also share with you specific foods, essential oils, meditations and crystals that will help you to re-balance your Root Chakra. The Sacral Chakra is the next chakra that I cover in this episode, this chakra is about fun and creativity and affects your reproductive organs and sexuality. This week's episode is a short one. I am celebrating the 50th episode of Wise Women Conversations, as well as 12 months since the podcast was started and we just clicked over 2000 listeners. So there are a few things to celebrate this week. In this episode I share with you a short communication from White eagle from the Hopi tribe. This communication is about hope, it is about remembering our spirituality when things seem tough and most importantly it is a message inviting us to re-connect to Mother Earth. I would like to take this moment to thank you for your continued support and let y our know that I have more fantastic conversations to bring you over the next few months. make sure that you are subscribed so that you don't miss any of the fun.
Who are we really?15 Apr 202000:59:47
In this episode I chat to Barbara Brangan all about Human Design. In fact Barbara goes through my Human Design report in detailed. When we recorded this I didn't really have any idea about my Human Design Profile apart from the fact that I was a Projector. You will not only learn a lot about Human Design in this episode you will also learn a lot about me. Aligning with your Human Design is akin to a key that unlocks your self-sabotage and allows you to truly step into fully expressing your Soul's gifts, in life, and in business. Whilst it is relatively new, it is in fact a powerful combination of 7 ancient systems to help you know and trust yourself more. In this conversation, Barbara demystifies what can sometimes be a confusing system, and uses Human Design, as a guide to explain the layers. She describes it as being like the Russian Babuska dolls, you unpack each layer to find the hidden treasures inside of you. You can grab your own free personalised Human Design Report by visiting - www.barbarabrangan.com/humandesign.
Simple ways to boost your immunity naturally10 Apr 202000:40:26
In this episode of Wise Women Conversations I share with you how you can take control of your health and boost your immunity using food, sleep, exercise, fresh air and reducing stress. It all seems fairly straightforward so why do so many people get sick every year with a cold, flu or some other virus? As I record this episode it is Easter weekend and most of the world is under stay at home orders to try to stop the spread of the COVID-19 virus. Understanding that this instruction has been given to stop the spread of this virus, why are we not being told how to prevent catching this virus apart from staying away from others and washing our hands? I would think that educating people on how to strengthen their immune system would go a long way to stopping the spread of this virus or any other virus that might be going around. So in this episode I share some ideas about food, sleep, stress and more. As well as explain why high levels of stress is the biggest threat to having a healthy immune system. In this episode I mention some previous podcasts - Stress #28, Personalised Health #30 and Sleep #35. Messages from your Body01 Apr 202000:47:35
In this week's episode of Wise Women Conversations I am have a chat with Melissa Turnock who shares her journey from being a child who was afraid to speak out. To a woman who had breast cancer and now is a strong woman who teaches others how to truly embody their body, their emotions and their life. Melissa shares how she believes that her cancer journey was a message from her body to stop, to listen and to heal the wounds of her childhood. The lessons that Melissa learnt allows her to truly hold space for other women who have traumas to heal. Melissa uses a technique called TRE which is a emotional release from the body. She shows women how to access their body wisdom, to release any self-imposed limitations and helps them choose a new path. This conversation takes many twists and turns and I truly loved the wisdom that Melissa shared. To learn more about Melissa you can visit her website www.melissaturnock.com where you can access a free Heart Centre Activation & Embodiment Journey. Boost your Immunity27 Mar 202000:54:22
Earlier this week I was asked by Chantal Vanderhaeghan to share with her community how you can boost your immune system. As often happens when I chat with Chantal this conversation went in many different directions. I spoke about how people experience stress differently and why there is no single way for everyone to reduce their stress. At the end of the conversation I did share some specific foods that will help to boost your immune system along with a free personalised 10 day Immune Booster program that is available by going to the Work With Me page on my website.
An open and honest conversation19 Mar 202000:20:52
In this week's episode of Wise Women Conversation I share my personal emotions that are coming up with everything that is happening in the world at the moment. As the world seems to have gone a bit crazy I have started to feel fear, anxiety and panic. Whilst on a conscious level I know that everything will be okay, at the moment my sub-conscious appears to be in control. I have been journalling on this over the past couple of days. I share the process that I went through this morning to meet the fear and anxiety and then make a different conscious choice about how I wanted to feel. Now, more than ever, we need individuals who are prepared to show their community how to live without fear. Change starts with you. Once you address your fear, anxiety or whatever emotions are coming up for you at the moment, you will allow others to address their emotions as well. If you would like to go through a deeper process than I describe in this episode I will be running a free Community Healing Circle on Wednesday 25th March at 8pm (Sydney time) in the Thrive in Menopause facebook group. Please join us so that we can shift the current energy state in the world.
Searching for Your inner Wise Woman08 Mar 202001:08:52
In this week's Wise Women Conversation with Lisa Fitzpatrick we go on a journey to find your inner wise woman. Lisa shares a time when she was looking for a wise woman to guide her through a troubling time in her life, but she couldn't find anyone. This led her on her on journey of discovery and now she works with women to help them to connect to their internal guidance system. In this conversation we discuss breaking the rules that we have been taught by the dominant patriarchal society that has kept women trapped for many generations. And yes there is a discussion around witches, in fact it was a question about witches that first attracted me to Lisa and why I wanted to have her as a guest on the podcast. As we uncover what it is to be a wise woman Lisa shares that wise women are comfortable with the mystery of life whereas before finding our wisdom we often are looking for certainty and control. She shares how our wisdom comes from deep within our wombspace and how we can connect to our own womb. In this current world where chaos appears to be the dominant force, healing of the world will come from our feminine energy. Once women are able to re-connect to their physical, emotional and spiritual energies there will be a healing power that re-balance a world that seems to be spiralling out of control. This is an episode that might need a couple of listens, we go deep in some places. I thoroughly enjoyed this conversation and it isn't often that I get to have such a open conversation with someone who is on a similar wavelength to me.
