What Did Jesus Actually Teach? Part 1

dimanche 21 juin 2026Duration 48:36

Most of us inherit a version of Jesus shaped by tradition, politics, church culture, family stories, and what we were told to believe. But what happens when we look more closely at what Jesus actually taught?

In Part 1, Britt looks at the Jesus behind the familiar image: the storyteller, the disruptor, the healer, and the teacher who challenged status, religious performance, social hierarchy, and the abuse of power. This episode explores how the earliest stories about Jesus were shaped through oral tradition and community memory before becoming the Gospel texts many people know today.

Through Mark, Matthew, Luke, John, and the broader world around these writings, this episode looks at Jesus’ uncomfortable and often radical teachings on mercy, justice, humility, service, forgiveness, enemy love, and the kingdom of God. It also asks why so many of these teachings have been softened, misunderstood, or used as weapons in modern religious and political life.

For skeptics, seekers, former church kids, spiritual outsiders, and anyone trying to understand Jesus outside of institutional control, this episode offers a more honest look at the teacher whose message still challenges power, certainty, and the way we treat each other.

Viktor Frankl: Man's Search for Meaning, but Make it Queer.

samedi 6 juin 2026Duration 01:31:38

In this episode of Maple and Myrrh, Britt and Mr.Teri explore what it means to make meaning, claim freedom, and become yourself when life has brought suffering, shame, rejection, or oppression. Beginning with Teri’s experience reading Viktor Frankl’s Man’s Search for Meaning during recovery from gender-affirming surgery, the conversation opens into a deeper reflection on queer spirituality, survival, and responsibility.

Through Viktor Frankl's work and experiences, this episode looks at three connected questions: How do we find meaning after suffering? What does it mean to be free when no one else gets to define us? And how do power, gender, bodies, and social conditions shape the choices available to us?

This is a thoughtful, personal, and accessible conversation about existentialism, trauma, queer becoming, and the sacred work of building a life that is truly our own. It honours suffering without glorifying it, challenges shallow ideas of “just be yourself,” and asks what liberation requires beyond personal courage. At its heart, this episode is about queer people as meaning-makers: not only surviving what tried to erase us, but creating beauty, community, responsibility, and new ways of being.

Unpacking "The Egg" Theory: Connection Comes With Responsibility

vendredi 19 décembre 2025Duration 45:10

What if the idea that “we’re all connected” isn’t about spiritual "oneness"... but about responsibility?

In this episode, we unpack the viral “Egg Theory” and trace where its core intuition shows up in queer theology, trauma-informed spirituality, and Indigenous relational worldviews.

We explore why the idea that “everyone is you” feels powerful, where it falls short, and how concepts like all my relations offer a more grounded and accountable way to think about connection.

This conversation is about ethics, not aesthetics. About relationship without erasure. About connection that doesn’t bypass harm or justice. And about how to live relationally, without appropriating Indigenous teachings, by asking better questions about power, care, and responsibility in our everyday choices.

What the Bible Never Said

vendredi 21 novembre 2025Duration 01:50:32

Jon grew up believing he was safe in the house of God, until he discovered that belonging in his church came with conditions.

In this episode, Jon shares the story of how he was pushed out of the evangelical world he once called home simply because he dared to explore and personalize his faith. For asking questions. For challenging contradictions. For believing that a place meant to connect people with God should not be the same place that tears families apart.

His journey took him somewhere he never expected: to the realization that many of the things he was taught were “Christian truths” - like heaven, hell, the rapture, even the Holy Trinity - aren’t actually in the Bible the way he was told. And neither is the idea that queer people are sinners.

Jon’s faith didn’t die when he left the church. It widened.

And it led him to one of the biggest decisions of his life: he and his wife refused to get married until same-sex couples could. Because he couldn’t build a life on a foundation he knew wasn’t equal.

This conversation is about unlearning fear, reclaiming spiritual autonomy, and discovering that God has nothing to do with exclusion and everything to do with belonging.
