| 104: Yes you need a coverage plan, and here’s what goes into it | 27 Feb 2024 | 00:13:23 | |
Do you have an emergency plan in place that your team can "break the glass" on when you are absent from the office? If not, then you need a coverage plan! If you aren't familiar, a coverage plan is something you put together to make sure that if you can't make it into work for any reason and for any amount of time, your team will be able to function as normally as possible. Coverage plans include which of your tasks need to continue to get done on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis; who on your team will be performing those tasks; who will be in charge of making decisions while you're gone; and much, much more. The goal here is to make sure that when life happens—whether you get sick, you want to go on vacation, or have any other reason for being absent—your business doesn't miss a beat. But where do you even begin with a coverage plan? Let's go over it together! WORK WITH LIA: What if you could keep a management and team operations Swiss Army Knife in your pocket? | 101: Being a bottleneck is costing you thousands of dollars a month | 06 Feb 2024 | 00:12:25
What if I told you that one of the people costing you the most money in your business...is you? What are you doing to cost yourself all that cash? Are you not doing enough? Do you need to work harder? Do you need to be more involved with the team’s work? Actually, it’s exactly the opposite: you need to be less involved. Because when you’re too hands-on with your team’s projects, you might find yourself becoming the dreaded "B" word: a bottleneck. When you have a bottleneck in business, it means something—or someone—is causing work to slow down. And oftentimes, that someone is us. But don't panic! I have three simple strategies you can use to break that bottleneck wide open and get things flowing again, and I'm sharing them with you today. | 094: How to get people to stop rolling their eyes at the word "process" | 19 Dec 2023 | 00:09:23
There is a phrase that I have been hearing over the last few weeks that has left me a bit mind-boggled… “Process for process’s sake.” This phrase actually came up in a workshop I was leading for a corporate client around optimizing time. I heard teams saying, “I don’t want there to be process for process’s sake,” or, “It feels like this is just us thinking of new processes for process’s sake.” I was sitting in this workshop like, “What the actual beep do people mean by this?” And after thinking about it for a bit, I think I finally understand…and I want to talk about what it means for us as managers, because if people are feeling like we are asking them to do something just for the hell of it, we've got a real problem... but we also have a real opportunity. Let me see if this story sounds familiar... We hire great people. We pay them well. We inspire them to do great work... And yet, more often than not, they come in and do the bare minimum expected of them. This isn’t the same as neglecting their responsibilities—they’re accomplishing their tasks, kind of—but we often know that they have more potential than that. So how do we get them from just showing up to showing up at their absolute best? Today, I want to talk about three ways to turn your employees into profit-generating machines. Because when we do these three things, we can shift things around from folks just showing up and doing the bare minimum to having employees who think proactively about growing the business...and trust me, this is something that will have a HUGE impact on your ability to meet your scaling goals in the upcoming year! | 089: Yes, you need 1:1 meetings...and here's how to do them right | 14 Nov 2023 | 00:13:32
There is one simple, easy-to-implement tool you can use to reduce turnover, streamline workflows, and boost team morale... One-on-one meetings. If you didn't know that one-on-ones are a necessity for a thriving team, that's all right—not many do! But after an experience I had with a mentee, I came to realize just how crucial one-on-one meetings with our team members are...and just how much grief we can save ourselves and our team members by having them. If you think that one-on-ones aren't necessary, take too much time, or won't actually be useful for your specific team...maybe withhold judgment until the end of this episode. | 088: The power of clear expectations | 07 Nov 2023 | 00:13:39
There's one question that I know you've probably asked yourself at least once... "Why can't my team members just read my mind?" No, I haven't been reading YOUR mind - I've just been there! In fact, I'd hazard a guess that EVERY manager has been there at one time or another. We all sometimes wish that we could hire a clone of ourselves to work on our team and ensure everything is done the way WE want it to be done. Unfortunately, that's not possible...but there IS a way we can help our current team members read our minds. Let me tell you about the power of setting clear expectations for your team members. | 087: Two pitfalls to avoid when setting priorities for your team | 31 Oct 2023 | 00:10:08
With 2024 rushing toward us at breakneck speed, it's time to start deciding what we're going to prioritize in our businesses to finish out the end of the year. As managers and business owners, we have a very unique skill: we can see dire importance in EVERY task we set in front of our teams, no matter how small. But this skill can also cause a bit of a problem: because we see everything as important, we can struggle to narrow down our list of tasks to what we ACTUALLY need to prioritize. The definition of "priority" is "the most important thing." Just ONE important thing—not a long list! When we can prioritize properly, it can help our team rally around our goals and end the year with team morale at an all-time high. But choosing too many priorities isn't the only pitfall we need to avoid. Let's go over them together! | 086: Reframing delegating to save you time, money, and stress | 24 Oct 2023 | 00:14:43
What if I told you that it only takes one simple mindset reframe to save you a heap of time, money, and stress? Reframing people's perspectives is my jam. I'm obsessed with reworking your view on certain things to reveal the opportunities that have always been there...you just couldn't see them. Today, I'm going to help you reframe your view around delegation. When we delegate, we can reduce stress, build trust with our team, and save ourselves hours of time and a shocking amount of money. Delegation is a tool that will instantly simplify the process of scaling... Yet, so many of us think of delegation as a thing to avoid. Whatever your reason for avoiding delegation, I'm going to flip it on its head today. Let me explain how delegating benefits both you and your team! | 084: The simple truth about onboarding (no, it’s not just for new employees!) | 17 Oct 2023 | 00:14:13
There's a reason that onboarding is the very first thing we talk about inside my Ops Playbook. When we don't onboard our employees thoughtfully - both new and new to their role - we can accidentally prevent them from achieving the kind of success and creating the kind of impact they're capable of while working on our team. There are two common beliefs surrounding onboarding that I'm going to DEBUNK today. Because when we don't fully utilize onboarding to our advantage, it can cost us a lot of time, money, and stress through transitions that could actually be smooth, stress-free, and simple. Let's talk about why onboarding is so important to your team operations...and how to do it effectively.

| 080: Clear-cut communication: the simple solution to team operations | 03 Oct 2023 | 00:14:26 | |
When we try to ignore the small issues in our team operations, they WILL grow into huge disasters...and at that point, it's going to be ten times harder to actually SOLVE them. Trust me, I get it. I get why people shy away from taking a close look at what could be changed in their operations. It can feel too complicated. It can be frustrating. It can disrupt your team, which can then result in disgruntled employees and reduced productivity... IF you're doing it alone. The best time to pop the hood of your business and dig into the weak spots is BEFORE those weak links actually start causing problems...and the best WAY to do it is with someone who can offer insight into your team operations issues AND solutions to them.
