Following God in business (and life!) means you have to make tons of decisions that could take you down a path you would’ve never chosen.

It looks hard, requires a ton of faith, and those around you seem to think it’s a crazy option - but you still know it’s the right option. 

But how do you have the faith to choose to follow God in that moment and not succumb to the pressure of the doubters and naysayers? 

It’s hard to make decisions that we know people will oppose or the decision means we will be doing something that’s totally against the grain of what anyone would expect from us. Still, we may have those who oppose our choices. These nay-sayers can come from good intentions (aka they think you’re making a mistake so they feel the need to help you) or bad ones (aka they don’t like you making big changes because it’s uncomfortable so they try to stop you with doubt). 

So how do you deal with opposition that often comes along with choosing to follow God? 

In this episode, I’m going to talk about 5 steps to prepare yourself to choose to follow God even when it feels scary because of the judgment waiting on the other side from your friends or family.

If you haven’t picked a word of the year or intention of the year yet, then you probably either haven’t gotten around to it (it can feel like a lot of pressure to decide) or you might be in the camp of not really getting the whole point of picking a word/intention. 

I totally get that because that was me for years. It felt like some trendy thing to do to pick a word of the year because every new year, you’ll hear people talking about their word of the year. 

But this year, I have a whole new perspective on this and I wanted to share it with you in case you’re not so sure of it yourself. 

In this episode, we’re going to talk about: 

• What it means to pick a yearly intention
• How your intention affects your word of the year
• Why we should definitely have a word of the year as Christian entrepreneurs

The importance of picking a word of the year definitely changed for me this year and I hope that I’ve convinced you to pick one for yourself. 

Write it down and put it somewhere that you can see and remind yourself what it is. Take it a step further, and find a Bible verse that supports your word. This will remind you that not only is a word that inspires you but God supports it as well.

Today we’re going to be talking about making money doing something that’s not “your calling” or your business. 

 

There’s a common mistake in thinking around this that can cause you to stumble as you pursue your calling. 

 

While God has indeed given you a calling and you should pursue that, if we fixate on that calling and only doing things that align with it, then we can lose sight of other things that God has called us to do and Biblical principles that we should follow. 

 

You may easily find yourself in a mindset cycle between desperation and idleness. Both of these create a panic and a fixation on money and fuel a scarcity mindset making it hard to focus on your business in a way that’s healthy. Instead, everything revolves around money including your business choices and you become stressed and irritable with your family as well. 

 

And the crazy thing is, this all makes sense when we start to lose sight of how God views work and money or maybe we never really knew. 

 

That’s what I want to share with you today. 

 

In this episode, I am going to share with you what the Bible says about working, providing for yourself, having a job unrelated to your calling, and how you can apply this to your life right now. 

 

As I went through this myself, I was really surprised to see this as I studied God’s word. Most of all, it gave relief and clarity to my actions. No more guilt and shame around working or not working when I could finally get clear on how God sees things. His word is a guide for us in everything and I hope you get clarity and peace from this lesson today.

Not knowing what to do next in your business is the worst. You are either paralyzed by the options so you do nothing or you can’t decide so you just work on a bunch of random tasks only to feel overwhelmed and directionless. Should we “craft a future” as Christians? This is a common phrase in the mindset space, especially in business, that you can create the future you want. 

But as Christians, should we be doing that and if so, what does that look like? 

In short: I don’t believe that we are to craft our own future based on whatever we want but I also think it’s more complicated than it sounds and not that linear.

Pursuing your calling is an amazing journey but it isn’t always easy. Along the way, God has to refine you as you become the person He needs you to be to do the things He wants you to do. 

In the online space, you hear a lot to “Only do what makes you happy” or “You don’t have to put up with stress” but God does things a little differently. 

In today’s episode, we’re going to talk about why discomfort is actually really important in accomplishing what God has in store for you (and no, it’s not a “harder is holier” message). 

 

You will have joy and peace beyond all understanding, but it doesn’t mean there won’t be things that are hard. It might be scary to do what God is asking you to do. Each step brings up all sorts of uncomfortable emotions. In that moment, you have a decision to pivot or meet that discomfort head-on. 

If we let the emotions lead us and always choose the comfortable, then we’ll never come out on the other side changed and better for it (See James 1:2-4)

When there’s discomfort, this often represents an underlying lie that we are believing. The discomfort can show itself as anger, frustration, worry, etc. But really, if you look deeper, you might find that worry is there because you aren’t truly trusting in God to provide, protect and lead you. 

 

When you face the discomfort and go deeper,  you can see what God is wanting to uncover in you so He can help you see it in a new light by applying His word and His truth to it so you can be free from its grip on you. 

 

This is how you get a breakthrough. 

This is when God shows you the thing that’s been holding you back and now you’re able to move forward empowered with the Truth instead of operating in a lie. 

And now you’re able to move forward in your calling. 

 

This is a key part of your journey with God as you step into your calling.

As you start down the road of pursuing the calling God has given you, you will find that there is a lot of opposition from different people in your life. 

As you try to start a business, people will try to talk you out of it because you have this degree or that job and why would you “give that up?”. 

As you really get serious about wanting to quit your job, people will start challenging why you’re even wanting to do this. What about the money and insurance? 

Then as you’re finally living that life of being an entrepreneur and mom, you find opposition in new ways. Keep your kids at home. No, you should work every day and put them in daycare. Do business this way or that way. You can’t teach it that way. You’re wrong. 

And most have good intentions but some don’t. 

Either way, if you’re not prepared for the opposition that’s in store, then you may never fully experience what God intends for you. 

In this episode, you’ll hear how to stand strong in the face of opposition as a Christian. We will take inspiration from the first chapters of Galatians.

Getting clarity is key to taking action and moving forward with pursuing your calling. It’s hard to start a business when you don’t feel clear on what your business should be or what God is calling you to do. The number one thing that clients come to me with is seeking validation that their business idea will “work” (aka make enough money, get money quickly, etc). 

 

In today’s episode, I’m going to walk you through the process I would use with coaching clients to help you uncover the beliefs and thoughts that are really keeping you stuck in your decision-making so you can get the clarity you need. Without clarity, you can’t take action because you don’t know which way to go. This is going to help you get clear so you can make decisions that you know align with where God is calling you and you’ll feel confident in those to be able to move forward. 

 

In the episode, I specifically talk about finding your calling or verifying your business idea but you can use these tools for any decision in your business. 

 

We will talk about: 

• How mindsets and beliefs work
• What’s a biblical mindset
• How to find the thoughts that are getting in the way
• Uncovering the beliefs behind those thoughts
• Using the Bible and God’s truths to change our thoughts

Today we’re talking all about navigating being a mom and an entrepreneur and how to create your own version of “balance” and what works best for you and your business (without going crazy). 

 

I’m interviewing Shi Chen (business coach) and talking to her about her own journey from teacher to life coach and how she continued to grow her business as she became a mother and grew her family. We talk about everything from hiring people to which mindset shifts are needed to be able to truly show up for your business and be the mom you want to be.

One of the questions you might be wrestling with as you are feeling God call you to start an online business and be home with your kids is “Is it going to be worth it?” There are so many things to consider when making this big decision.  I know because I was there. Ph.D. in hand, working in my career, yet feeling drawn to be home with my then-toddler. 

In today’s episode, we’re going to talk about some of my favorite aspects of being home with my son after I quit my job 3 years ago. It was challenging but I don’t regret it for one second and I want the same for you.
