In this episode I openly share why I had to press pause on the podcast, the struggles I faced and how I am ready to move forward.

 Since publishing my last episode, almost 4 months ago,  I have been taking time to heal, reflect and now honor my mom.  We are all given a mother, some of us have amazing relationships with our moms,  others do not.  Mothering is not always easy.  It's actually the hardest job there is and we are never able to truly comprehend this until we become a mother.  Losing a mother is one of life's hardest roads to travel and now I am here on it, learning to navigate it without my biggest cheerleader.  We can all do hard things.  

Oftentimes when we enter the beauty industry we think we know exactly what we want to do.  Other times that "thing"  that we thought we wanted to do is not as fulfilling as we envisioned.  But as fate would have it,  in the middle of your adventure you try something new and that leads you to your passion.  This is exactly what happened to my guest Kirsten Goetzelman aka Tampa Waxer.

In this episode she shares her story of starting out on her esthetics journey and how being asked to try waxing changed her path in the beauty industry.  Not only did her path change directions, she has evolved as woman, as a mom and as a waxer and couldn't be happier.

 As moms, we find ourselves wearing many hats, constantly being pulled, led or guided in many different directions.  This pandemic has exacerbated this as many families are finding themselves home to complete both school with their children and work for themselves. 

 My guest Amy Staubitz, of XTan Sunless, has always been a working mom, and now finds herself  working from home ( as both an employee & as a business owner) along with homeschooling her children.  Today she is sharing how she considers being flexible is a must as a mom in the beauty industry and in life!

If so, you're not alone!  My guest Bri Calaway, mom to a sweet little girl and creator of B.Lashed shares how she is affected by imposter syndrome.  After starting her false lash brand, thoughts of inadequacy or not being competent creeped in but she quickly realized that this was completely inaccurate!!  She shares how she deals with the thoughts if they come back up and how to find confidence in what you do. 

During our chat we briefly touched on mom guilt and dove deep into mom shaming.  Sadly, as moms we deal with mom shaming in various facets.  Bri discusses how she was mom shamed, how it affected her and how as a woman owning a lash brand she feels that we should all celebrate what ever makes us feel beautiful!

To some it looks like a glamorous fairy tale! It's often what some starting in the Spray tanning industry dream of.  For Keri Elliott of Bronze Me Babyy in Dallas Texas, she'll tell you it is most definitely fun AND glamorous, BUT it has not been easy or effortless.  In this episode Keri and I chat about what it has been like for her going from being a stay at home mom of 3 boys to the wild ride of traveling the globe tanning beautiful people.  Keri found herself lonely, often what happens to moms when their children grow up and are not needed for every little thing.  She decided to start spray tanning and, as her dear friend Fabiola told her, it's what SHE did with an opportunity that allowed her to flourish.

Hey friends, It's the 20th episode of this podcast and I am excited to share a little bit of my "why' I started it.  My name is Deana and in this episode I share a little bit about me and explain my why to you.  

I started this podcast to bridge the connections and share the correlations between raising our babies all while raising a beauty business.  No matter the ages or stages we all have similarities and differences.  None the less, there is something we can all learn from and be inspired by from each other.  As I traveled and attended seminars, summits, conferences, and classes, and the more I connected with other moms in the beauty industry, the more I realized this platform was needed.  We are all amazing women doing amazing things in this world and we rarely celebrate it or share our trials and tribulations on getting here.

If you started in the beauty industry prior to having children and now you find yourself pregnant or raising a baby in addition to raising your business, YOU"RE NOT ALONE!  There are many women who's businesses are their first "baby" and are now faced with the task of growing their family and their business.  The place between the person you once were and the person you are now becoming is magical.  Becoming a mom is magical and growth is inevitable.  Embrace the changes.  

My guest Kimber Jaynes of Borboleta Beauty is a great example of this.  She does it all with grace, beauty and makes it look so easy.  In this episode she shares that looks aren't everything, how being a planner has helped with her success and how she chooses to spend her time is the key to getting things done.

Kim also shares that giving ourselves grace and knowing that things are not always going to go as planned is so important. She discusses that she is very aware of mom guilt, knowing most moms suffer from it, but is cognizant of her feelings and knows that allowing herself time away oftentimes allows her to gain more focus, find balance and become centered again. 

In this episode we also discuss trust as a mom... trusting yourself & trusting others.  Our children need a healthy, balanced mom and this comes from just that, trust.

My guest, Mistie Collins and I dive DEEP into the real talk on being a new mom in the beauty industry.   

As a new mom, who chooses to go to work,  we find ourselves constantly questioning if working is the right choice.  As Mistie mentions.."sometimes I'm killing the game and sometimes I question what I'm doing... is working and missing out on watching my son grow truly worth it?"   We are judged by clients, family and society on working OR staying home with our kids.  Mistie and I agree that it's so important to just go with what feels right for the individual.  She shares that, most days, working is so good for her mental health.  Yes, she misses her son, however while working she gets to showcase her individuality and be "Mistie"!

As a busy mama and owner of not one but two beauty businesses, there are no days off.  My guest Rachel, of Organic Bronzing Studio & Fairy Bronze Mother,  a  busy toddler mom describes this first hand.  Typically the only down time is when the baby is sleeping.  The struggles and exhaustion experienced as a BOSS and as a MOM, especially of a toddler boy,  is something no one can really prepare you for.  Rachel discusses with me how being a mom has made it so much easier for her to have boundaries and non-negotiable.  As a previous work-a-holic, she now knows now that her priorities are with her family.  Lastly, we discussed the thing that she wish she would've been told being a mama running a beauty business and it's something you probably wish YOU"D been told too!

My guest is not only a Mama but she is also a pioneer in the Sunless Industry.  Fabiola shares her story of coming to Miami from Ecuador, as a single mom with her young son and finding happiness in the Sunless Industry.  Her journey wasn't always easy but the struggle of raising her son as a single mom has made her stronger.

In this episode you'll meet Nakia @thevirtualskincarecoach & @browtotoe from Hampstead, NC.   She is a former marine who decided to pursue a career in the esthetics industry as a mom.  She shares how being a marine has influenced her as a mom and a business owner. 

As a mom to a teenage girl, Nakia strives to be someone that her daughter would want to emulate.  "Children watch everything we do" she says, and she works hard to make sure her daughter sees all the hard work that goes into not only being a mom, but running a business. 

She explains that she creates balance in her life by creating structure, rules and boundaries and sticking to them! Plus she is not afraid to say "no".

✨"When the cards fall into the right place and the stars all align"   Heather Souther, aka Spray Tan Gun Slinger,  shares what it was like to go from employee to salon owner and everything in between!

In this episode I sat down with Heather, who is a mom of 4, and she openly shares what it was like to work while pregnant and after having a newborn.   Which involved timing contractions or Braxton hicks and pumping in the backroom. She also shares many of the challenges and triumphs of raising amazing tiny humans all while growing her business.  She tells me that having an incredibly supportive husband is what has truly allowed her to grow her spray tanning business. 

We also discuss the exchange of energy that happens as a beauty professional, how Heather manages it ( which includes something we all do daily) and how reframing our mindset around cleaning  to use it to our advantage in the salon.
