| Did The LDS Church Fund Alleged Child Abuser Mommy Bloggers? | 29 Sep 2023 | 00:05:33 | |
"How did two individuals seemingly manage to pull the wool over so many eyes, manipulating systems and minds to their advantage?" In a recent episode of the podcast "Hidden Killers," host Tony Brueski delves into the unsettling tales of Ruby Franke and Jodi Hildebrant. With Lori Hellis, an author and criminal defense lawyer, they shed light on the complexities surrounding these figures, who, under the veneer of respectability, allegedly perpetuated a web of deceit. For the uninitiated, on the surface, Franke, as Brueski observes, appeared to be nothing more than "a strict parent." However, scratch beneath the surface and a much more sinister portrait emerges. "She really tried to massage this image and portray herself in one way where what we're learning, if true, [is] quite a monster on the other side," Brueski remarked. This observation becomes even more chilling as we learn that even Franke's own sisters were reportedly unaware of her activities. What is particularly alarming in these narratives is the seeming pattern of isolation. Hildebrant, much like Franke, seems to have a propensity for pushing away those who raise concerns. Hellis draws a parallel with the Lori Vallow case, stating, "We saw it in the Lori Vallow case. I mean, she cut off her entire family on the Cox side of the family. She cut them all off because they questioned what she was doing." This behavioral trait – the isolation from family and friends – appears to be a recurring theme among individuals exhibiting narcissistic tendencies. As the conversation progressed, the connection to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) emerged. Both Franke and Hildebrant had affiliations with the church, and what Hellis reveals next is indeed troubling. "Here's what I find very troubling about the Hildebrand and Frankie case," Hellis began. Jodi Hildebrand, notably a therapist with an MSW in social work, was reportedly on numerous church referral lists. This means that she was actively receiving clients from the church, with church leaders referring members to her for therapeutic sessions. The implications of such a dynamic become deeply problematic when the depth of Hildebrant's alleged actions is considered. In a revealing interview, Jodi Hildebrand's niece, Jessie, unveiled that she was subjected to Hildebrant's so-called therapeutic techniques. More alarming is that Jessie was tasked with handling the billing for Hildebrant's "therapy practice." What left Jessie deeply disturbed was the revelation that "about 80 percent of the billing was being paid for by the LDS church." The LDS Church, known for its compassionate endeavors, would fund counseling sessions for members in need. In this twisted tale, not only was the church unintentionally endorsing someone potentially causing harm, but it was also financially supporting it. As Brueski poignantly notes, while there's nothing inherently wrong with church-funded counseling, the misuse and abuse of such a system are "sickening." The Franke-Hildebrant narrative forces us to question the systems in place, their vulnerabilities, and the lengths to which individuals might go to exploit them. The intertwining of personal ambition, alleged malpractice, and institutional trust provides a cautionary tale about vigilance, accountability, and the ever-present danger of deception lurking beneath seemingly benign exteriors. "In a world where appearances can be manipulated, how do we ensure that those entrusted with power and influence remain true to their responsibilities?" Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? | Were Mommy Bloggers Preying On Vulnerable LDS Members? | 29 Sep 2023 | 00:07:54
In a riveting episode of "Hidden Killers," host Tony Brueski delves deep into the murky waters of child protective services, exploring the intersection between a broken system and the masterful deceit of individuals like Ruby, a narcissist who manages to fool the system at every turn. Brueski's probing query, "Why did it take so long for anybody to look into this on a serious level?" brings to the fore a pressing issue that has haunted child welfare advocates for years. Brueski is quick to clarify his stance, emphasizing that his intention isn’t to demean the many dedicated workers within the child protective services system. "I've always have to be careful with that because there are many people in it who work their ass off and are not funded. They don't have the resources to do their job correctly." The real culprit, Brueski suggests, may not just be an underfunded system but individuals like Ruby, who know how to play the game all too well. Offering a deeper perspective, Lori Hellis, a criminal defense lawyer with substantial experience in juvenile cases, sheds light on the delicate balance child welfare systems must strike. "In every state, there is this tightrope between the rights of a parent to raise their children as they see fit, and when that tips over into abuse and neglect," Hellis explains. The challenge for CPS investigators lies in discerning genuine threats from benign but nonconventional parenting practices. Hellis goes on to highlight the complexities that investigators face in cases that, on the surface, present no obvious signs of neglect or abuse. "So They go into a home and they see a home that is appropriately furnished. The kids have food. They appear to be being homeschooled in a responsible way." The key, according to her, is determining if there is a "true risk of harm" to the children. This conundrum becomes even more profound in homes that are upscale and wield significant societal influence. As Brueski poignantly questions, "Are people getting better at hiding this stuff?" The conversation delves into how our societal perceptions can often be misguided, equating affluence or apparent happiness with well-being. Hellis raises an alarming point about how the digital age might be aiding these deceptive tendencies. With the vast amount of information available online, she believes people have become more adept at understanding what the state looks for and, consequently, how to hide potential red flags. The darker corners of the internet may empower wrongdoers with the tools they need to elude detection. The episode then shifts to the nuances of emotional abuse, a form of mistreatment often overlooked because of its intangibility. As Brueski puts it, "It's also a reflection just of how we handle mental health in our country to begin with." The discussion concludes with a heart-wrenching case involving Ruby Frankie, illustrating how the unsuspecting are sometimes trapped in toxic therapeutic relationships, manipulated by unscrupulous individuals who exploit their client's vulnerabilities. In light of such complexities, one can't help but ponder: are we facing a systemic failure, or is it the evolving mastery of deceit that's to blame? The conversation on "Hidden Killers" serves as a compelling reminder that, in the age of information, we must be ever vigilant and discerning, constantly challenging our perceptions and assumptions. As we reflect on the intricate dance between a possibly flawed system and the cunning deception of some individuals, one has to wonder: In an age where appearances can be so deceiving, how can we truly safeguard our most vulnerable? | Explosive NEW Allegations Surface Against Jodi Hildebrandt | 29 Sep 2023 | 00:13:32
In the ever-evolving realm of therapy and mental health, the importance of trust and credibility is paramount. But for Jodi Hildebrandt, a notable therapist with a previously established reputation, a series of alarming testimonials threaten to dismantle her professional standing. A recent expose on the popular podcast "Murder in the Morning" showcased disturbing reviews from former clients of Hildebrandt's therapy programs, raising serious questions about the ethics and efficacy of her methods. Former client Dan's testimonial paints a troubling picture: "Jodi Hildabrandt's teachings cost me my marriage. She used shame as control," he revealed. He also accuses Hildebrandt of overbilling, citing instances where the therapist would charge for entire sessions even when plagued by connectivity issues. More concerning, Dan claims multiple breaches of client confidentiality, a fundamental tenet of therapy, alleging that Hildebrandt disclosed personal client information. However, it's not just individual sessions that have come under scrutiny. The organizations associated with Hildebrandt, ConneXions Classroom and Moms of Truth, were flagged by another reviewer for perpetuating "destructive division." This anonymous female reviewer conceded that while there were positive teachings, they were overshadowed by instances of undue shaming. She went on to liken the behavior of Hildebrandt and her colleague Ruby to a "cult-like mentality." Perhaps one of the most startling reviews came from a self-identified established therapist who trained under Jodi for a year. "I saw her tear apart families and destroy relationships," the therapist claimed, further stating a belief in Hildebrandt's malevolent intentions. The controversy extends to interference in family dynamics. Calvin alleges that Jodi manipulated his children against him on the testimony of their mother, with whom she allegedly had no permission to communicate. He claims Jodi's advice led his children to sever all forms of contact with him. Anna Marie and others, like Vincent and Dashi Stock, raise concerns over purported "brainwashing tactics" and slander. They all sound the alarm on the potential emotional and mental harm stemming from interactions with Hildebrandt and her associated entities. Interestingly, Hildebrandt's alleged attempts to control her public image seem to spill over to online platforms. Christopher Edmondson highlights her practice of suppressing dissenting voices on her social media channels, describing a pattern of blocking or removing comments that challenge her teachings. | How Did Ruby Franke's Husband Ignore the Alleged Abuse Of His Wife? | 28 Sep 2023 | 00:05:22
When a loved one is responsible for grave misconduct, would you notice? A recent episode of the podcast "Hidden Killers" delved into the puzzling dynamics of the Ruby Hildebrandt case, raising questions about her husband's knowledge and involvement. Ruby Hildebrandt’s parenting methods, as described in the podcast, bordered on the sadistic. Host Tony Brueski referenced her husband's claims that he is now focused on doing what's best for his kids, following the revelations. He wishes to rebuild relationships and even heal past traumas without indulging in the blame game. Shavaun Scott, a psychotherapist and author, weighed in on the matter. "Clearly he was present when the parenting was going on, at least a lot of it, the very punitive and strict and almost sadistic ways that Ruby treated the children." Scott highlighted the complexities of realizing the severity of a situation when the perpetrator is someone close to you. Ruby’s husband, despite being an academically accomplished individual, seemed to have lacked insight into his wife’s actions. "You can be a very intelligent person and have zero insight," said Scott. This observation brings forth a significant concern: the husband's possible victimhood. Was he also under Ruby's manipulative hold or genuinely oblivious to the ongoing abuse? The podcast hinted at a wider audience becoming aware of the abuse through a YouTube channel, while Ruby’s husband seemingly remained in the dark. It suggested a theory wherein Ruby, much like Laurie Daybell, another infamous case discussed, utilized her charming persona and particular use of language to veil her sinister actions. Scott added, "It could confuse a person who doesn’t have a lot of insight, and who knows the ways that their relationship operated and the ways that she took the power and control." The profound damage done to the children is undeniable, but Scott sees a potential silver lining in therapy. Addressing the husband’s possible realization, she said, "Maybe, you know, it is a light bulb moment for him." However, acknowledging the wrongdoings is only the first step. True reparation will undoubtedly be a long and strenuous journey, especially with the children. She ended her analysis with a poignant remark, expressing intrigue in taking him on as a therapy patient. "It may sound odd, but this would be a fun one looking at it as a therapist to try to do some therapy with him and see how much insight he can really develop." So, as we delve deeper into this unsettling narrative of the Ruby Hildebrandt case, the question remains: How often do individuals remain blind to the actions of their loved ones, and when they do see, is it ever too late to make amends? | Was Ruby Franke's Husband Also A Victim Of Her Abuse? | 28 Sep 2023 | 00:08:12
When faced with a family scandal of immense proportions, the world tends to divide into two sides: those who stand by the accused and those who denounce them. But what happens when the lines are blurred, and the innocence of a parent is questioned? In a recent episode of the "Hidden Killers" podcast, hosted by Tony Brueski, a compelling dialogue with Defense Attorney and Host of "Defense Diaries," Bob Motta, delves deep into this gray area, examining the involvement of Kevin Frankie, a father caught in a vortex of allegations against his spouse. Kevin Frankie's wife, Ruby, is currently incarcerated, along with Jodi Hildebrand. While Kevin asserts his primary focus is on doing what's best for his children, his statements and actions have led many to question his true motives. Was he genuinely unaware of his wife's alleged misconduct, or was he a silent bystander or even, possibly, an active participant? "Is he really just trying to cover his tracks right now and be the good guy when maybe he was looking the other way for quite some time, or who knows?" Tony Brueski posits. It's a question that strikes at the heart of the matter, drawing attention to the possibility that Kevin might have been more involved, or at least aware, than he lets on. However, as Motta astutely points out, the most critical testimony in this convoluted case will come from the children themselves. "What I care about is what the kids are going to say," says Motta. These children, being older and not toddlers, have a comprehensive understanding of what transpired and their testimonies could play a pivotal role in shaping the outcome. The delicate balance of family dynamics comes to the fore when one considers the psychological and emotional burden the children bear. They find themselves in the unenviable position of potentially having both their parents imprisoned, and the choices they make regarding their testimonies will inevitably reflect their struggles with this reality. In a notable remark made by Kevin's attorney, Kevin was cited as being keen on reaching out to his children, family, and friends to address and heal from past traumas. Such a statement could be interpreted in several ways. Is Kevin referring to the actions of his wife, Ruby, or hinting at his own complicity or passive involvement? Tony Brueski hints at a deeper, more introspective realization Kevin might be experiencing: "Maybe I wasn't the best dad. Maybe I looked the other way on some things." This sentiment is mirrored by Motta, who emphasizes the overwhelming guilt parents often feel when they believe they've failed their children. The dynamic between Ruby and Kevin is further complicated by the financial aspect. Their streaming venture was lucrative, with Ruby seemingly holding significant influence due to her being the "star of the show." This monetary power could have been a tool of manipulation, allowing Ruby to exert control over Kevin, as Motta theorizes, comparing the situation to cases where one partner holds financial dominance over the other. In the end, the episode paints a harrowing picture of a family torn apart, not just by alleged misconduct but also by the complexities of their interpersonal relationships and external influences. However, one question remains: Was Kevin Frankie truly an unsuspecting victim in this chaos, or was his silence an indication of complicity? Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? | How Mommy Blogger Normalized ABNORMAL Behavior | 28 Sep 2023 | 00:08:36
What drives an individual to the brink where fame and attention take precedence over the welfare of their own children? In the recent episode of "Hidden Killers," Tony Brueski delves into the perplexing and deeply disturbing case of Ruby Franke with Robin Dreeke, retired FBI Special Agent and Chief of the Counterintelligence Behavioral Analysis Program. Brueski ponders the motivations behind Franke and Jody Hildebrandt's actions: "Was it money? Was it control? Was it delusions of the religious beliefs that they held?" These haunting questions set the stage for a deep dive into the psyche and motivations of individuals pushed to extremes by societal pressures. Dreeke reflects on the videos of Franke's sisters and describes the apparent competition between them. "It screams of the disease of a cult of more and the disease of comparison between sisters." The sisters, each with their own vlogging careers, seem to be caught in an insidious competition. He notes, "Ruby just went above and beyond because she wasn't getting the attention that she thought she deserved. She wanted more views." But why this incessant need for attention? Dreeke further explains that the environment in which the Franke family thrived spoke of one-upmanship. "What drove them to that? What sort of tendency made them all feel that this is the way to go?" Brueski added, reflecting on the oddity of every adult sister in the family vlogging for a living. The conversation then turns to an even more profound issue – the difference between "informers" and "me formers." Dreeke suggests that while informers put out information for the benefit of others, "me formers" are centered around self-promotion, often rationalizing their actions as beneficial for their audience. The Franke family, according to Dreeke, seems to consist mainly of "me formers." In the case of Ruby Franke, her quest for fame and attention, combined with her competitive nature, seems to have overshadowed her moral compass, leading to the grave mistreatment of her own children. "She was in competition in her own mind against them to better them, to make herself feel better, to make herself feel valued for whatever insecurity," Dreeke hypothesizes. One of the most chilling aspects of the discussion revolves around the normalization of abnormal behavior. Dreeke equates the situation to a "slow boiling frog" where people start accepting and normalizing behavior at a gradual level. By the time the severity of the situation is realized, it has escalated to alarming levels. Brueski laments the missed red flags, "There were a lot of people for a long time that felt that Ruby was off." Yet, even with these warnings, it took an extreme situation – a child escaping from her custody – for decisive action to be taken. Dreeke urges listeners to recognize the signs and speak out: "See something, say something." The conversation wrapped with a somber reflection on the pressures of modern society. The relentless drive for attention, validation, and comparison can lead individuals down dangerous paths. Dreeke emphasizes, "You were in a slow boiling kettle and you didn't realize that you were being manipulated by her normalizing abnormal behavior gradually." As the story of Ruby Franke continues to unfold, it serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of unchecked ambition and the dark side of social media fame. In today's world, where the quest for likes, views, and subscribers often supersedes genuine human connection, one must ask: How can we ensure the line between reality and the digital world doesn't blur to the point of no return? | Inside Jodi Hildebrandt's Life Coaching That Ruined Lives | 27 Sep 2023 | 00:13:32
Utah has been thrown into a whirlwind of controversy following the arrest of YouTube vlogger Ruby Franke's business partner, Jodi Hildebrandt, on child abuse charges. Alongside Franke, Hildebrandt was involved in counseling Mormon couples and families through her life coaching service, ConneXions. However, former patients are now shedding light on practices they believe were more akin to a cult than genuine counseling. Hildebrandt's program, described by seven former patients who accessed her services between 2008 and 2019, methodically isolated individuals from their loved ones, used "truth" and "deception" to manipulate perceptions, and even reportedly shattered marriages. "She wanted everything to stay in the group. You’re not allowed to have a different opinion than her," commented Stephanie Jones, a former patient. The revelations come amidst a shocking incident where Franke’s malnourished 10-year-old daughter and injured 12-year-old son were found in Hildebrandt's residence, leading to both women facing six counts of felony child abuse. It's essential to underline that these charges are unrelated to the allegations emerging about the ConneXions program. ConneXions, which Hildebrandt established in 2007, provided courses on relationships and parenting, rooted in the principles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS). A primary theme of the program is the dichotomy of "truth" and "deception." When individuals allowed their personal wants, needs, and experiences to overshadow these "truths," they were living in "distortion," according to the ConneXions course material reviewed by NBC News. Although Franke was prominently featured alongside Hildebrandt in service videos, none of the former clients who came forward claimed to have been counseled by her. The depth of Hildebrandt's misgivings runs deep, particularly with her focus on porn and sex addiction, especially for men. It's significant to note that "porn addiction" isn't recognized as a legitimate disorder by the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5). Yet, it appears Hildebrandt, formerly specializing in "porn addiction" therapy, had no qualms diagnosing men without evidence of abnormal behaviors. Spencer Tibbets' story illustrates the profound disconnect in Hildebrandt's methods. At just 16, Tibbets, who had clandestinely obtained a phone for video games, was thrust into a men's group primarily focusing on porn addiction. Despite his lack of understanding about porn, he was exposed to disturbing conversations involving the sexual fantasies of fellow group members. In a past transgression, Hildebrandt faced disciplinary action by Utah officials in 2012 for breaching confidentiality with one of her patients, who later turned out to be Adam Paul Steed. Following this, he had his church privileges revoked, got temporarily suspended from Brigham Young University (BYU), and underwent a divorce, all consequences of Hildebrandt's disclosures and allegations. Reflecting on the devastation, Steed lamented, "My family got destroyed. My life got destroyed." For women like Stephanie Jones and Eliza Tibbets, Hildebrandt's diagnosis of "control addiction" seemed not only unprofessional but also mentally and emotionally detrimental. Both recounted feeling trapped, controlled, and constantly berated if they ever defied Hildebrandt's views. Hildebrandt's professional standing took a major hit recently. The Utah Division of Professional Licensing disclosed last week that she voluntarily surrendered her mental health counseling license, although it remains active but limited. With the dark cloud of abuse allegations looming over her, Hildebrandt's future in mental health counseling looks bleak. It remains to be seen how these events will unfold, but for now, the tale of Jodi Hildebrandt and ConneXions serves as a chilling reminder of the perils of blind trust in authority figures. As investigations continue, Utah's community will no doubt seek answers and justice for the many affected by Hildebrandt's controversial methods. Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? | Were Mommy Bloggers Trying To Start Their Own LDS Spin-Off Cult? | 27 Sep 2023 | 00:09:04
Is the line between cult behavior and entrepreneurial drive blurred in the recent spotlight on Jodi Hildebrandt's controversial group? Recent discussions on the podcast "Hidden Killers" delved deep into the actions and influence of Jodi Hildebrandt and her associate, Ruby Franke. During the conversation, Tony Brueski and criminal defense lawyer Lori Hellis broke down the unsettling nuances that surround the activities of Hildebrandt and Franke. “Anytime you have an organization that is formed around a central figure...it certainly has cult overtones,” Hellis said. In Hildebrandt's case, her belief system and the proclamation that those who didn't adhere would face severe repercussions gave rise to serious concern. The dynamic between Hildebrandt and Franke became even murkier with the revelation of Franke's 2 million followers on YouTube and the subsequent potential monetary advantages. Drawing parallels with the Lori Vallow Daybell case, Brueski questioned the motivations of such figures. “Was it money? Was it control?” he asked. The underlying intentions might be obscured, but a clear link to financial gain was established when it was revealed that Franke secured $87,000 in PPP loans for her YouTube channel. This revelation adds another layer to the complex dynamics at play. A notable element in this discussion is the adoption of the “love and logic” parenting approach from the 1990s by Hildebrandt and Franke. Hellis mentioned, “I think they do believe that is the way to, to appropriately parent...she's got the answer and people want it and she can get them to pay for it.” However, this approach has taken a dark turn. The extreme methods used by Hildebrandt went far beyond typical strict parenting. Brueski highlighted, "It just seems to go way off the rails. How does someone end up sitting in their home duct-taping their children up and abusing them and going, ‘Yeah, this is strict parenting’?" The conversation turned even more harrowing with the account of Jodi's niece, Jessie, who spoke of the severe and unimaginable discipline she endured under Hildebrandt's care. Hellis said, “For Ruby Franke's children, she had cut them off from everyone...the first thing the abuser does is isolate their victim.” This isolation is a telltale sign of abusive patterns and manipulation. The responsibility and knowledge of Ruby Franke's husband became a crucial aspect of the conversation. Hellis gave insights into the possibility of him being more passive in the face of Franke's parenting tactics, implying that while he may not have directly been complicit, his passive stance potentially enabled the continued abuse. There were speculations about him wanting to reunite the family, but how much he knew or intervened remains a grey area. From this conversation, one thing is evident: the line between cult behavior, delusional beliefs, and a drive for entrepreneurial success has been muddled in the activities of Jodi Hildebrandt and Ruby Franke. Their methods, beliefs, and actions pose significant concerns that demand scrutiny. But as we delve into the motivations and intentions behind such controversial figures, one can't help but wonder: at what point does the drive for success or adherence to belief systems transform into dangerous fanaticism? | Will Ruby Franke's Husband Face Charges Too? | 26 Sep 2023 | 00:07:09
Can the pursuit of personal introspection and reconciliation save a broken home? In the recent episode of the podcast "Hidden Killers," host Tony Brueski delved into the complex dynamics of the Franke household, seeking insights from attorney and former Federal prosecutor Neama Rahmani. Kevin Franke, husband to the now infamous Ruby Franke, relayed a message through his attorney, emphasizing his commitment to prioritize their children's well-being. He stated he's been separated from Ruby for 13 months and wishes to "rebuild and bridge relationships," steering clear of blame games. But, as Rahmani queried, "Is this someone who's trying to get in front of this and not be charged as well?" The skepticism surrounding Kevin's intentions stems from disturbing allegations surrounding the household. The chilling details brought forward allege instances where children's wounds were treated with a concoction of cayenne pepper and honey. Rahmani remarked, "It really takes a special kind of evil when you're dressing wounds with cayenne pepper and honey." Such horrendous accounts beg the question of Kevin's involvement or awareness and if he too was a victim of Ruby's manipulation or abuse. Neighbours had consistently raised red flags about the Franke household's unsettling atmosphere. In their attempts to offer aid, some even left food at the doorstep, suspecting the children were malnourished. But their concerns seemingly fell on deaf ears, as interactions with the Utah Division of Child and Family Services left them believing that the agency's hands were tied due to Utah's free-range parenting law. Rahmani criticizes this inaction, asserting that the evidence against Ruby Franke was compelling enough for intervention. "You can't tell me that law enforcement, social workers can't come in," he argued, emphasizing the ease with which a search warrant can be procured if there's probable cause of a crime. For Rahmani, the situation speaks to a broader, systemic issue, where child protective services, time and again, seem ill-equipped and overwhelmed. "The crimes are committed in the dark," Rahmani points out, highlighting the hidden nature of such abuses, shielded further by the veil of secrecy that covers juvenile cases. He suggested that the lack of public scrutiny on such agencies – a result of the confidentiality shrouding child-related cases – might be hindering their accountability. "There's nobody that can hold their feet to the fire or not as easily hold their feet to the fire until something goes horribly wrong," Brueski concurred. In Rahmani's view, the differential treatment and pressure experienced by various prosecutorial bodies play a significant role in their efficacy. While certain investigators are held accountable, either directly or indirectly, through electoral mechanisms, organizations like the DCFS don't necessarily share the same level of scrutiny. "DCFS obviously operates a little bit differently or Child Protective Services," Rahmani remarked. The Franke case shines a spotlight on the pressing need to reassess and reform child protective systems nationwide. Without appropriate resources, training, and accountability mechanisms in place, such agencies risk repeating the tragedies that befall families like the Frankes. How many more hidden tragedies must unfold before our system wakes up to the silent cries of the vulnerable? Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? | 'We Did Report Them' Claims Neighbor Of Ruby Franke, But Nothing Was Done | 26 Sep 2023 | 00:03:46
How did it remain under the radar for so long? This is the burning question that Tony Brueski and Jennifer Coffindaffer grapple with in a recent episode of "Hidden Killers". Ruby Franke's case has baffled many, especially when neighbors insist they weren't looking the other way but instead were actively trying to help. The actual barrier? The Free Range Parenting Law of Utah. "Several of us tried to help. One neighbor commented saying, I know people left food on doorsteps knowing the kids might not be eating," recounts Brueski. Neighbors knew something was amiss and many reportedly made calls to the Department of Child and Family Services (DCFS) and the police. Yet, the children's lack of visible injuries meant that the hands of the law were tied. According to Brueski, the Free Range Parenting Law in Utah allows parents to leave their children alone if deemed of a responsible age, unless there are injuries. Coffindaffer, a former FBI Special Agent, interjects with a nuanced perspective, acknowledging the legitimacy of a child's right to independence at a certain age but highlighting its boundaries. "That at a certain age, a child could be left alone. But again, there's usually time limits on that... for being able to be on your own and it not being dangerous to the child in many states. It's about 12 years old that age is but there's a time limit and it's not weeks and it's not days," she stated emphatically. The law's application in the Franke case, however, has raised eyebrows. "That law that they have in Utah is in many states, but it's completely absurd to stretch that law to cover what was going on in this situation," Coffindaffer argues. She points out that neglect through starvation is separate and should not be hidden behind the Free Range Parenting Law. "Child welfare services in Utah has a lot explaining to do because there's no way you can hide behind the law they're talking about and explain starvation and neglect," she emphasized. Brueski dives deeper into the peculiarities of Utah's legal system, suggesting that Utah's approach to these laws might have nuances that are different from other states. "Every time we talk about Utah, things are always just a little bit odd or different or don't quite make sense in so many of the legal ramifications in cases," he observes, questioning how much "gray area" Utah's legal framework allows. Coffindaffer concurs with Brueski's sentiment, pointing out that Utah has what may be described as a "liberal application" when it comes to parenting decisions. "Out of all the states there are, you know, Utah is where you're going to see the most liberal application in terms of these sort of parenting, you know, free range decisions," she stated. The revelations in the "Hidden Killers" podcast spotlight the potential dangers of laws that may be well-intentioned but can inadvertently create loopholes that endanger the welfare of children. The ongoing discussions surrounding Ruby Franke's case serve as a cautionary tale, prompting a re-evaluation of laws and their applications. However, as the discourse around Ruby Franke's case and the Free Range Parenting Law continues, the question that still lingers is: Are there more cases of neglect concealed behind the veil of laws that were meant to protect? | Why Were Odenistic Clues Ignored By Delphi Investigators? | 26 Sep 2023 | 00:05:23
In a riveting episode of "Hidden Killers," Tony Brueski delves deep into the perplexing details surrounding a recent crime scene with psychotherapist and author Shavaun Scott. The scene, as described, is nothing short of chilling: ritualistic markings, runes on bodies, and blood allegedly painted on a tree, suggesting an odinistic ritualistic killing. "The scary thing is some of the connections that are made in the defense letter... It checks out," Brueski reveals, pointing to the involvement of individuals deeply entrenched in the odinistic religion. Their social media profiles, laden with odinistic symbols and references, further solidify the connection. More alarmingly, evidence, including a potential confession to a girlfriend, seems to have been overlooked, leading to Richard Allen's arrest. Scott, while intrigued, approaches the topic with a healthy dose of skepticism. "It's just not common," she remarks, questioning the logic of a criminal leaving behind such blatant clues. Drawing from her knowledge, she recalls a similar case in California where three teenage boys committed a satanic ritualistic murder. "They left a trail a mile long," she notes, emphasizing the irrationality of such acts. Brueski, grappling with the gravity of the situation, poses a question that many are likely pondering: "If anyone is participating in this sort of thing... what are they believing that they're getting out of that?" Scott's response paints a grim picture. She suggests that such acts might be the result of psychotic tendencies, where individuals are completely detached from reality. "This kind of thing is getting into psychosis," she states, emphasizing the sheer irrationality of ritualistic killings. The conversation takes a darker turn as the duo delves into the possibility of group involvement. While it's one thing for an individual to be swayed by psychotic tendencies, the idea of a group collectively participating in such heinous acts is even more unsettling. Brueski points out, "We see it in movies... I think we think that this doesn't really go on in reality." Scott, however, reminds listeners of the Manson family's ritualized killings, highlighting the potential for impaired individuals to commit unspeakable acts under the right influence. As the episode concludes, one thing is clear: while ritualistic killings rooted in ancient religions like Odinism are rare, they are not entirely unheard of. Scott's insights serve as a chilling reminder that while such acts are "pretty darn uncommon," they do, unfortunately, occur. In a world where ancient beliefs intersect with modern crimes, how do we differentiate between genuine religious practices and sinister misinterpretations? | Was Ruby Franke's Husband Complicit In Abuse Of Children | 25 Sep 2023 | 00:06:33
In the latest episode of the podcast "Hidden Killers," hosted by Tony Brueski and featuring insights from former FBI Special Agent Jennifer Coffindaffer, some alarming details surrounding the husband of Ruby Franke, Kevin Franke, have emerged. The unfolding case against the notorious mommy bloggers has seen new twists with the recent statements from Kevin Franke, who claimed through his attorneys to be "focused on doing what's best for the kids." This comment comes in light of the shocking revelations of abuse allegations involving Ruby Franke and Jodi Hildebrandt. But Brueski points out an unsettling nuance: Despite being separated from Ruby for 13 months, Kevin seemingly allowed his children to stay with Ruby, without any qualms. Coffindaffer noted, "It just doesn't pass the smell test." She referred to an older daughter who had previously made allegations, suggesting Kevin was aware of the dire situation. Even without direct contact, the visibly emaciated state of the children should have raised alarms. Most disturbing were references to the children's alleged physical states – with indications of injuries consistent with being restrained with duct tape. Coffindaffer remains skeptical of Kevin's professed ignorance, stating, "I just don't believe he knew nothing." The consensus? Kevin Franke is possibly keeping silent to avoid implicating himself. Coffindaffer speculates that Ruby might eventually shift blame onto him, suggesting he could hold critical information on the events of those years. Yet, another compelling twist emerged when Kevin's attorney hinted at his possible involvement in past traumatic events. Whether inadvertently or not, the comment suggested more than what met the eye during the period when Ruby was with Jodi Hildebrandt. Coffindaffer elaborated on the situation, commenting on the inadvertent admission: "I don't think he meant to really make that quasi admission... but he did." This slip has left many speculating about the depth of Kevin's involvement. Brueski, taking a somewhat sympathetic view, hypothesizes that Kevin might have been abused by Ruby as well. He said, "Is that he too was probably abused by Ruby. I don't know how involved he would have been with the abuse." Coffindaffer, on the other hand, expresses frustration, urging Kevin to "man up" and share the true extent of what transpired, for the sake of his children. The parallels drawn between the Franke situation and the Lori Vallow Daybell case suggest a more complex narrative beneath the surface, with potential elements of 'magical thinking.' As the story unravels, one crucial question remains: If Kevin Franke is, indeed, privy to deeper secrets, will he finally break his silence, or will these potential truths remain hidden? | How Did Ruby Franke And Jodi Hildebrandt: How Extreme Beliefs And Mental Health Care Don't Mix | 23 Sep 2023 | 00:10:29
Can the divide between organized religion and personal spirituality give rise to cases of child abuse, and how does accountability fit in? In a recent episode of the "Hidden Killers" podcast hosted by Tony Brueski, a riveting conversation with Clinical and Forensic Psychologist & Licensed Private Investigator Joni Johnston sheds light on a case that has gripped many - the troubling tale of Ruby Franke and Jody Hildebrandt, known as the Mormon mommy bloggers. These women have found themselves submerged in allegations of child abuse, a narrative that not only places their lives under scrutiny but also poses questions about the role of organized religion in these actions. To provide some context, Ruby Franke and her husband, Kevin, according to their attorney, have been separated for roughly 13 months, with Ruby living with Jody Hildebrandt. During this period, one of their children allegedly "escaped" their residence and sought refuge in a neighbor's house. Kevin, as per his lawyer, emphasizes his commitment to "doing what's best for his kids" and aims to rebuild familial bridges. Brueski probed Johnston on Kevin's awareness of the events transpiring in the Franke household, to which she responded, "It's hard to imagine that he didn't know some of what was going on for sure... Based on the information I have, how much of an active participant he was, but I would be very surprised if he did not know some of what was going on." Johnston speculated that things might have escalated after their separation, but some of their older children have indicated that such behavior has been ongoing for years. One pressing theme emerged from the dialogue: the link between organized religion, in this case, the Mormon faith, and instances of abuse. Several recent cases involving individuals of the Mormon faith exhibited extreme parental tactics, leading to the question of how much organized religion plays a role in such actions. Johnston observed, "It isn't necessarily the religion's fault if people then distort those religious beliefs or twist them for their own benefit." This raises an intriguing angle about the juxtaposition between organized religion and personal spirituality. Johnston pointed out how some might misuse religion as a shield, hindering them from seeking professional mental health care because it could be perceived as a "weakness of faith." The conversation took a deeper turn when Brueski highlighted a concern - the Mormon Church's endorsement of Jody Hildebrandt as a counselor. This endorsement, coupled with the ongoing situation, evoked the question: "Is this a reflection of a greater problem within that church?" Johnston's perspective on the matter brings up another pivotal point – the uneasy relationship between religion and mental health. She stressed the need for a clear boundary between one's religious beliefs and mental health care, especially when dealing with sensitive cases. "One of the most difficult things about this case for me is that Jody Hildebrand is a mental health professional," said Johnston, adding how unsettling it is to think that a mental health professional could endorse abusive tactics. Another alarming revelation from the discussion was the multiple alerts Child Protective Services received from concerned neighbors about the Franke children's welfare. Still, it took an extreme situation for proper action to be taken. Johnston shared her experience working with abused kids, highlighting the systemic problems within child welfare agencies, from understaffing to the dilemma of prioritizing family unity over child safety. Brueski and Johnston both championed the need for better resources and systems to protect children genuinely. In an era where we advocate for children's safety and mental well-being, stories like these force society to reckon with its values and beliefs. The case of Ruby Franke and Jody Hildebrandt presents more than just a story of alleged abuse; it unravels complex webs of religion, societal norms, and accountability. In the face of these revelations, one is left to ponder: Where do personal beliefs end and the need for professional intervention begin? Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? | What Dark Secrets Was Mommy Blogger Hiding? | 19 Sep 2023 | 00:10:18
Is it possible that behind the camera lens of some of our favorite family influencers lies a disturbing reality? Recent shocking revelations surrounding YouTube personalities, Ruby Frank from 8 Passengers and her business partner, Jodi Hildebrandt, have left fans and audiences worldwide grappling with disbelief and betrayal. The arrest of the duo followed a chilling 911 call, in which a 12-year-old boy, identified as one of Ruby's children, appeared at a neighbor's home - emaciated, wounded, and bound with duct tape. "This one, I don't know if it should shock me or not, but it kind of does considering the following that she had," remarked Tony Brueski, host of the podcast "Hidden Killers", during a recent episode. Brueski and his guest, Defense Attorney Bob Motta from Defense Diaries, delved deep into this alarming incident, attempting to reconcile how a seemingly strict 'old school' parent who once broadcasted minor parenting faux pas could escalate to such horrifying actions. Evidence of the alleged abuse came to light when "the kids start coming forward", Motta mentioned. Ruby's YouTube channel had showcased her strict parenting techniques in the past. An incident where her six-year-old was responsible for her lunch and was publicly chastised for forgetting it raised eyebrows. While some viewers perceived it as Ruby teaching her children life lessons, others were quick to criticize her approach. The lines between stern parenting and outright abuse seem blurred for many, and unfortunately, some influencers might be pushing these boundaries to dangerous extremes. In discussing the difference between teaching children accountability and outright neglect, Motta highlighted, "There are parents that still abide by, you know, spare the rod, spoil the child type of mindset, a long way from like when I was growing up." However, what remains more confounding is the consistent absence of intervention. Despite allegations and complaints, including some from Ruby's own 20-year-old daughter, Child Protective Services (CPS) failed to act. As Motta emphasized, these children are not toddlers. They have a voice, yet for some reason, it was overlooked, echoing haunting similarities to other cases of children being unheard, like that of Lucy Studi. Motta, while comparing this situation, said, "Like how scary and frustrating that must be for children who are just not being heard." Adding another layer of complexity, Jodi Hildebrandt's involvement, Ruby's business partner, and the complicity of Ruby's husband, who claims to have been unaware of the ongoing abuse, paints a grim picture of children caught in a web of adult manipulation. Yet, as this investigation progresses, truth and justice may be on the horizon. With the victims themselves acting as witnesses, Motta reassured listeners, "We do have very much eyewitnesses as to exactly what was going on in that house and for how long and by whom. So if it's a secret, it's not going to stay secret for long." As followers of family influencers, this case acts as a haunting reminder that all might not be as it appears. For the children involved, the hope is that justice will prevail, and they will finally find peace after years of torment. As the digital age thrusts parents into the spotlight, where do we draw the line between harmless content and the potential exploitation or even abuse of children? | From Mommy Blogger to Duct Taped, Malnourished Children Escaping Her Home | 19 Sep 2023 | 00:08:53
In a chilling episode of the "Hidden Killers" podcast, host Tony Brueski unravels the disturbing story of prominent YouTube personality Ruby Frank and her business associate Jodi Hildebrandt. As the allegations come to light, questions about modern parenting, the perils of social media validation, and the influence of public opinion take center stage. The revelations leave listeners grappling with the blurred lines between public perception and a grim reality. Ruby Frank, famed for her YouTube channel "Eight Passengers," and Hildebrandt found themselves embroiled in controversy when a 911 call exposed a harrowing scene: an emaciated 12-year-old boy, covered in wounds and bound with duct tape, desperately seeking refuge at a neighbor’s home. According to the call, the boy had managed to escape from Hildebrandt's residence, where both women were present. Brueski questions, "How could mothers, especially ones so visibly present in the public eye, allegedly engage in such abusive behavior with their children?" The podcast reveals that while these alleged abuses weren’t explicitly shown on camera, there were veiled jokes hinting at abuse. Retired FBI Special Agent Robin Dreeke provides a possible answer, suggesting a deep-seated need for external validation. “This is what happens when you fall in love with your own voice,” Dreeke states, highlighting the delicate balance between 'informers' and 'me formers' on social media. For Ruby, who seemed to prioritize showcasing her life on the platform, the balance seemed tilted towards the latter. Dreeke goes on to dissect the probable causes for such behavior, suggesting that the convergence of personal insecurities, a strict parenting style, and the hunt for validation on public platforms can create a toxic cycle. “When you start normalizing bad behavior, it becomes easier to escalate it,” Dreeke remarks. This escalating cycle might have been exacerbated when Hildebrandt, who might share similar beliefs, became a significant part of Ruby’s life. The role of Ruby's husband, who occasionally appeared in her videos but has not been charged with any wrongdoing, remains a murky area. Brueski expresses incredulity, questioning whether the father was genuinely oblivious to the situation or perhaps another victim of abuse himself. The podcast touches upon the possibility of trauma bonding, wherein victims form emotional attachments with their abusers. A pivotal question remains: Why did it take so long for authorities to intervene? Despite previous petitions to Child Protective Services, the situation only came to a head with the recent dramatic escape of the boy. Dreeke alludes to the gradual desensitization of regular viewers who, accustomed to incremental increases in alarming behavior, may not recognize the situation's severity. However, an outsider or a professional might view the same behavior and recognize it as deeply troubling. The podcast "Hidden Killers" has thrown into sharp relief the complexities surrounding digital age parenting, the allure and danger of online validation, and society's role in perpetuating or preventing such situations. As we reflect on this distressing revelation, we're left to ponder: In a world where our lives are increasingly on display, how can we discern between genuine reality and a curated facade, especially when the stakes are so high? | Were Mommy Bloggers Preying On Vulnerable LDS Members? | 19 Sep 2023 | 00:07:54
| Did The LDS Church Indirectly Fund Alleged Child Abuse Mommy Bloggers? | 19 Sep 2023 | 00:05:38
| How Did Mommy Blogger Get Away With Alleged Abusive Behavior For So Long? | 19 Sep 2023 | 00:11:19
Does the perfect facade crafted for millions on social media hide chilling secrets behind closed doors? In a recent episode of "Hidden Killers," Tony Brueski had an enlightening conversation with psychotherapist and author Shavaun Scott about the perplexing case of Ruby Frank and Jodie Hildebrandt, two women whose questionable behaviors recently made headlines. The revelations from this story were not just deeply unsettling, but they also shine a spotlight on a concerning trend in the Mormon faith. Ruby Frank, known for her "curated blonde, attractive appearance" and vast reach on YouTube, gathered over two and a half million subscribers who were torn between admiration and distaste for her parenting approach. On the surface, Frank’s parenting seemed rooted in old-school methods, such as not delivering a forgotten lunch to ensure a lesson is learned. However, as Brueski pointed out, there's a "world of difference developmentally between a six-year-old and a 12-year-old," and perhaps, Frank’s judgments were misplaced or even detrimental. While many saw her as pious and strict, others were horrified by her on-screen demeanor towards her children. Beyond the camera, darker details began to emerge, hinting at a deeply troubling double life. But it poses a compelling question: "Is this more common than we think of individuals very heavy on social media?" as Brueski inquired. The way Frank presented herself was like a facade, expertly crafted for her online audience, all while hiding disturbing behaviors. The mystery deepens with Jodie Hildebrandt, described as a mix between a therapist and a cult leader, who shared a dubious business venture with Frank. Their "counseling agency" oddly focused on topics such as preventing masturbation and the dangers of sexuality. Comparing them to the notorious Chad and Lori Daybell, Scott remarked, "when you put nutty people together, it just sort of amplifies and intensifies." One can't ignore the apparent pattern of alarming incidents emerging from the Mormon or Latter-day Saint (LDS) faith. While both hosts emphasized that their intent wasn't to cast a shadow over the entire religion, there seems to be a growing list of individuals within the faith showcasing detrimental behavior. If such attitudes are increasingly emanating from the community, is it then, as Brueski suggests, "something to be looked at"? Ruby Frank's daughter's testimony adds another layer to this chilling tale. After Frank's arrest, her 20-year-old daughter took to social media with a single word: "finally." She revealed her unsuccessful attempts to report her mother's actions for years. This points to a wider systemic issue. Scott hinted at a potential failure of Child Protection Services (CPS) due to lack of funding or staff, a plight that's unfortunately familiar in many jurisdictions. As the discussion veered towards Frank’s husband, a college professor, opinions diverged. While he claimed ignorance regarding the abusive behaviors, Scott found it hard to label him a victim. Was he passive, turning a blind eye to Frank's actions, or complicit in them? If the latter, where does one draw the line between moral and legal responsibility? The story of Ruby Frank and Jodie Hildebrandt is a distressing reminder of the facades people can build, especially in the age of social media, and the hidden dangers lurking beneath seemingly perfect exteriors. As Brueski and Scott delved deep into this harrowing tale, listeners are left contemplating the complexities of human behavior, societal pressures, and the power dynamics within family units. | Mommy Blogger Strict Parent or Sadistic Monster? | 19 Sep 2023 | 00:06:05
When does "tough love" cross the line into abuse? This was the center of a recent conversation on the podcast "Hidden Killers" between host Tony Brueski and former FBI Special Agent Jennifer Coffindaffer. They discussed the controversial actions and revelations surrounding YouTube personality, Ruby Frank. Ruby Frank, once recognized as a "tough love mom", had a significant presence on YouTube with almost two and a half million subscribers on her channel "Eight Passengers". She presented herself as a strict parent, but events took a turn when a child allegedly related to her showed up at a neighbor's doorstep with ankles bound by duct tape and appearing emaciated. Brueski expressed, "Prior to that...Did it shock me all that much quite honestly of oh, they forgot their lunch. We're just not gonna bring. It'll be a lesson. They'll learn, and they'll remember next time." This statement underlines the controversial nature of "tough love", where some methods, seen as teaching life lessons, are now being critically examined. As they delved deeper into the topic, Coffindaffer stated, "I truly believe that she was a wolf in sheep's clothing from the beginning." She hinted that what many fans perceived as merely a tough parenting style was, in actuality, a mask for abusive and neglectful behavior. Such allegations, especially against someone with a significant online presence, are shocking. The constant surveillance that such internet celebrities are under makes it puzzling how such activities could go unnoticed. But as Brueski puts it, "There was much more going on behind the curtains." Coffindaffer voiced her concerns about the nature of this alleged abuse: "This is somebody who's sadistic toward her own children. And that takes a real special horrible-natured sadist to do that." These statements highlight the severe nature of the allegations, suggesting that the actions weren't mere disciplinary measures but possibly rooted in deeper psychological issues. Furthering the narrative, Brueski discussed the blame Ruby Frank attempted to shift onto her children. He mentioned Frank's vague claims of one of her children being abusive towards the others, without providing further details. The insinuation here, although yet to be confirmed, brings to the forefront the potential cycle of abuse. As children raised in an abusive environment, they might develop destructive behaviors. However, what struck most was Coffindaffer's revelation about an alleged accusation made by Frank. She accused her three-year-old of watching pornography. This shocking revelation raises more questions about the environment within the household. Where did the child gain access to such content? Was this claim a deflection or an exposure of a deeper, more sinister situation? Coffindaffer then drew a comparison, citing her previous involvement in interviewing individuals in Utah from a small society accused of incest. "I've never seen so many cleft palates...I've never interviewed so many people that literally were cousins," she remarked, hinting at the culturally embedded issues that still plague certain communities. This observation raises the question of whether such cultural considerations may have influenced the events within the Frank household. The revelations from this podcast episode provide a dark glimpse into the life of a once-popular YouTube personality. It's a grim reminder that what we see online is often a curated version of reality, and sometimes, hidden behind the scenes, are truths far more disturbing than we can imagine. So, as our screens continue to showcase myriad personalities and parenting styles, one must ponder - how do we differentiate between genuine 'tough love' and something more insidious? | How Much Did Mommy Blogger's Husband Know Of Abuse? | 19 Sep 2023 | 00:05:37
When does 'parenting' cross the line into abuse? Tony Brueski, host of the acclaimed podcast "Hidden Killers," delved deep into the twisted narrative of Ruby Frank, a renowned YouTube personality and alleged child abuser. Joined by former FBI Special Agent and Hidden Killers Daily Contributor, Jennifer Coffindaffer, the conversation explored the intersection of social media validation and potential child maltreatment. Ruby Frank, once held in esteem for her tough-love parenting style on her mommy blog, has recently come under scrutiny for extreme disciplinary actions. "Somewhat reminiscent of Lori Dayville," Brueski commented, hinting at the underlying radical beliefs that might be influencing Frank's controversial parenting methods. Discussing the potential influence of her blogging career on her parenting style, Coffindaffer opined, "She has over two million people that are supporting her and supporting what she's talking about. So I think it certainly gave her the sense of empowerment and the sense that she wasn't doing anything wrong." The concerning aspect here isn't just the actions of one individual but the validation by millions. The focus then shifted to an alarming point - the systemic failures of child protective services. "Is the Ruby Frank and Jodi Hildebrandt story another lesson in how broken our system is for child protective services?" Brueski asked. Coffindaffer's response was both empathetic towards the workers in the system and critical of the structure itself. "The system is so broken... the parental rights seem to just overshadow everything that is right," she lamented. The podcast went on to discuss the role of Frank's husband in the alleged abuse, shedding light on the need for a comprehensive inquiry into the children's experiences. The notion that such potential abuse could remain hidden from another parent living in the same house was deemed unlikely by Coffindaffer. "I just think it's gonna take a real deep historical look," she asserted, emphasizing the importance of thoroughly interviewing the kids and gathering any available evidence. Brueski and Coffindaffer's conversation paints a bleak picture, intertwining the allure of internet fame with potential abuses behind closed doors. While the discourse highlights a single case, it brings forward a larger societal issue of discerning the boundary between disciplinary actions and outright abuse. This tale is a stark reminder that online personalities and influencers, despite the façade they might present, are human. Their actions, for better or worse, remain hidden behind the pixels, only surfacing when the screen darkens and real life takes over. As we ponder the implications of this discussion, one must ask: In the age of online validation, who truly watches out for the vulnerable? Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? | How Did CPS MISS The Abuse Of Ruby Franke For Years? | 19 Sep 2023 | 00:06:40
It's a question that has left millions of fans bewildered: How does a prominent YouTube influencer, adored by millions, become a subject of a shocking child abuse investigation? Ruby Frankie, the face behind the popular YouTube channel "8 Passengers," along with her business partner Jody Hildebrandt, have been thrust into the spotlight, and not for their usual content. Their arrest followed a harrowing 911 call by a neighbor after discovering an emaciated 12-year-old boy, his wrists and ankles bound with duct tape, knocking at their door. This dark turn of events, which Tony Brueski of the "Hidden Killers" podcast termed a "chilling revelation," has shaken the social media community to its core. “You know, that was a question I had too, because, as you said, there are so many eyes on this family and they're broadcasting their parenting," Eric Faddis, a former Felony Prosecutor, weighed in on the recent episode of "Hidden Killers." Indeed, their platform was a window into their lives, or at least what they chose to display. But as Tony posited, how did the world go from watching trivial incidents on her YouTube channel, such as Ruby's refusal to bring lunch to her child at school, to hearing about allegations of child abuse, malnutrition, and possible starvation? A few sharp-eyed viewers had already raised concerns about the "8 Passengers" content, deeming some parental choices as potentially harmful. This led to a Change.org petition urging child protective services (CPS) to investigate. The service did step in, but found no grounds to act at the time. Adding more complexity to the narrative, Faddis mentioned the defense called "reasonable parental discipline," which can be employed in child abuse cases. The defense allows parents to justify their actions as their parenting style if they believe it was "reasonable." The line between strict parenting and abuse can sometimes blur, but the events surrounding the Frankies indicate a much more severe scenario. There's also the haunting revelation that one of Ruby's older children, currently in college, had previously alerted CPS about the conditions at home. "Why was this not investigated further when you literally have a child going, 'Hey, my mom's crazy. She's abusing us,'" Brueski lamented. This revelation puts CPS under scrutiny. Critics argue that the organization sometimes fails to act even when confronted with glaring red flags, while others believe it often oversteps its boundaries. Faddis offered a potential solution to the challenges plaguing CPS. "I would strongly push for is evidence-based standards," he shared. Rather than leaving decisions solely to the subjective judgment of caseworkers, introducing concrete, evidence-backed standards on parenting, nutrition, and discipline might lead to more accurate evaluations. It's undeniable that the case of Ruby Frankie and Jody Hildebrandt serves as a stark reminder of the perils that may lurk behind the curated images of social media stardom. While fans grapple with the shocking revelations, it's essential to remember the broader picture. As Brueski and Faddis highlighted, there's an urgent need for reform and introspection in child protection systems. As investigations continue and the full story unfolds, one question remains: How many other cases have gone unnoticed, hidden behind the veil of online fame? | Inside Ruby Franke's Home: Husband's Interview Reveals Shocking Details | 01 Apr 2024 | 00:19:17
Recent disclosures from an interview with Kevin Franke, the estranged husband of influencer Ruby Franke, have unveiled distressing insights into the atmosphere within their household. These revelations come in the wake of Ruby's arrest on child abuse charges, shedding light on the restrictive dynamics and concerning behavior that characterized their domestic life. During the interview with authorities following Ruby's arrest, Kevin Franke provided a candid account of the stringent rules imposed upon him while he and Ruby were living together. He detailed how Ruby's business partner, Jodi Hildebrandt, moved into their home, prompting a series of restrictions that significantly impacted Kevin's autonomy. "I couldn't come into the kitchen to eat until Ruby gave me permission," Kevin revealed, emphasizing the extent to which Ruby controlled their interactions. Moreover, Kevin recounted Ruby's involvement with a group named ConneXions, which he characterized as a "religious cult." He described how Ruby's behavior underwent a drastic transformation, alleging that she claimed to communicate with divine entities and experienced trances. "The upstairs where Jodi was was completely offline. I couldn't go upstairs anymore in my own house," Kevin lamented, underscoring the unsettling nature of the environment. The dire situation escalated when both Ruby and Jodi were arrested for child abuse after Ruby's son sought assistance from a neighbor. Subsequent investigations revealed two emaciated children in Ruby's home, leading to legal action against Ruby and Jodi. Both individuals pleaded guilty to four counts of child abuse, resulting in the imposition of the maximum sentence of 30 years in prison each. Throughout the legal proceedings, Ruby expressed remorse for her actions, extending apologies to her husband and children for the turmoil they endured. "For the past four years, I've chosen to follow counsel and guidance that has led me into a dark delusion," Ruby lamented during her sentencing hearing. "To my babies, you are a part of me. I believed dark was light and right was wrong. I would do anything in this world for you. I took from you all that was soft, and safe, and good." The release of this interview footage, coupled with chilling journal entries detailing Ruby's mistreatment of her children, has ignited public interest and prompted discussions about accountability and the impact of toxic environments on familial relationships. As the legal process unfolds, further revelations may emerge, shedding additional light on the complexities of this troubling case. Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE? | Documents and Videos Reveal Disturbing Details in Ruby Franke Child Abuse Case | 28 Mar 2024 | 00:16:26
The Washington County Attorney’s Office has unveiled a trove of videos and documents shedding light on the harrowing child abuse case involving popular parent blogger Ruby Franke. From diaries to disturbing videos, the evidence paints a grim picture of the abuse inflicted upon Franke's children and the religious fervor that allegedly fueled it. Franke, alongside her business partner Jodi Hildebrandt, faced charges related to the aggravated abuse of Franke's children, a case that unfolded with shocking revelations and subsequent legal action. In the newly released documents, prosecutors underscore the role of "religious extremism" as a driving force behind the abuse perpetrated by Franke and Hildebrandt. Franke's handwritten diary entries chronicle months of torment inflicted upon her children, detailing tactics such as withholding food and oxygen, forcing outdoor confinement, and inflicting physical harm. One particularly distressing video, released by the attorney’s office, captures Franke's 12-year-old son, malnourished and wounded, seeking help from a neighbor after escaping confinement. The footage offers a stark glimpse into the dire circumstances endured by the children. Additionally, jailhouse calls between Franke and her estranged husband, Kevin Franke, reveal the emotional turmoil and denial that characterized the aftermath of her arrest. In a poignant exchange, Ruby attributes her predicament to the influence of evil forces, lamenting the loss of everything she holds dear. "Satan has taken everything away from me that I love," Ruby expressed in one call, reflecting on her plight from behind bars. Her husband, Kevin, responded with reassurance, vowing to uphold truth within their family amidst the turmoil. The case culminated in sentencing for Franke and Hildebrandt, with each facing prison terms for their roles in the abuse. Despite Franke's pleas and denials, evidence presented by prosecutors painted a grim portrait of the suffering endured by her children, underscoring the gravity of the charges. As the details of the case continue to emerge, the community grapples with the implications of such egregious abuse and the pursuit of justice for the victims. The Washington County Attorney’s Office remains steadfast in its commitment to transparency and accountability, providing a sobering glimpse into the dark realities of child abuse and the quest for closure in its aftermath. | Ruby Franke's Daughter Blasts Lifetime's New Movie, Says it Will “Only Hurt” Her Siblings | 08 Oct 2024 | 00:09:46
Shari Franke, the eldest daughter of YouTuber Ruby Franke, recently spoke out against the upcoming Lifetime movie *Mormon Mom Gone Wrong: The Ruby Franke Story*, which dramatizes the events surrounding her mother’s child abuse conviction. Shari, now estranged from her mother, criticized the movie in a social media post, calling it “trash” and emphasizing its potential harm to her siblings. Shari posted her reaction on Instagram after seeing the film’s trailer unexpectedly. She described how the moment triggered an “anxiety attack,” explaining, “I saw the trailer suddenly in class and had an anxiety attack. None of us were contacted about the movie. None of the proceeds are going to the kids.” Shari continued, “This movie is trash, and only hurts my siblings more,” before urging her followers, “Please do not support this movie.” The film, starring Emilie Ullerup as Ruby Franke and Heather Locklear as her business partner Jodi Hildebrandt, chronicles the downfall of Ruby, who gained online fame as a family vlogger before her arrest in 2023. Both Ruby and Jodi were convicted of child abuse following a harrowing incident in which Ruby’s 12-year-old son escaped Hildebrandt’s home, visibly malnourished and bound, prompting police intervention. Ruby’s arrest marked the culmination of years of alleged abuse, which Shari, in previous Instagram posts, claimed her family had tried reporting to authorities for a long time. Following the arrests, Shari had written, “Today has been a big day. Me and my family are so glad justice is being served. We've been trying to tell the police and CPS for years about this, and so glad they finally decided to step up.” Shari’s criticism highlights a growing frustration among people directly impacted by true crime stories that are commercialized without consent. As true crime adaptations surge in popularity, the ethical considerations of dramatizing real-life traumas, especially involving minors, are increasingly scrutinized. Ruby Franke’s case became a topic of national interest when her son’s escape revealed conditions of severe neglect and abuse. Prosecutors detailed how Ruby’s two youngest children were found in poor physical condition, sparking outrage and leading to Ruby and Jodi’s conviction and subsequent prison sentences. According to Shari, the ongoing media attention, now through Lifetime’s film, has made it difficult for her and her siblings to heal. “It only hurts my siblings more,” she reiterated. As *Mormon Mom Gone Wrong: The Ruby Franke Story* approaches its October 26 premiere, Shari’s plea calls attention to the often-overlooked perspective of family members left to pick up the pieces. Her statement serves as a reminder of the ethical complexities surrounding such portrayals, particularly when minors are involved, and highlights the need for sensitivity in these adaptations. The film’s creators have yet to respond publicly to Shari’s comments. Whether her message will impact the movie's viewership remains to be seen, but her words underscore the real-world impacts that these dramatizations can have on those closest to the story. #RubyFranke #LifetimeMovie #ShariFranke #MormonMomGoneWrong #ChildAbuse #TrueCrime Want to listen to ALL of our podcasts AD-FREE?
