Welcome Back to Make Mine Multiversity: A Marvel Podcast! Each episode we’ll be looking at Marvel books, old and new! We discuss fun Marvel comics, Marvel news, Marvel history and, now, are putting the "mine" back into Make Mine Multiversity. 

For those who're new, each month I talk with a guest about a Marvel comic that's memorable to them. Sometimes they're personally meaningful, sometimes it's "I read this a few months ago and its still sticking around."

This month I welcome on Colleen Venable to discuss a comic I vaguely knew existed but didn't realize how much of it there was: "Alf." From sitcom star to comics "hero," it's everyone's favorite Melman. The two issues Colleen chose were, thankfully for me, X-men related.

I'm not going to try to do any of the puns Alf is known for. I think it might do my head in.

For some bonafides, Colleen is a comics writer and former designer for First Second Books. She's written "Kiss Number 8," the "Katie the Catsitter" series and is now writing the "Junie B. Jones" adaptations with art by Honie Beam (oh hey, there's an interview about that.)

Next time: "Fantastic Four" (2022) #1-6 aka the start of the current era with Ryan North. Science! Comedy! Existential angst! You can find it collected as "Fantastic Four, Vol. 1: Whatever Happened to the Fantastic Four?" or on Marvel Unlimited.

This month I welcome on Hans Buetow and his brother Jesse Buetow to discuss the Ur-superhero event "Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars" #1-12 from 1984. Yes, that is the full title.

For some bonafides, Hans is an award-wining audio producer who has been working in sound, music, and audio recording for 20 years. Jesse is a teacher and he's happy that's all there is to know.

Elias has found a new pastime: griping about Dan Slott on "Spider-Man." Jaina would love to show him the good Slott books she's read. Elias caved and decided he could gripe about Slott AND read a good Slott comic by revisiting 1 of 2 arcs he's actually read: the original "Spider-Verse." Folks. If you've only seen the movies, this shit will be a wild trip. Spider-Gwen! SP//dR! Silk! The worst Silk plot point ever! Spider-Woman as a pirate? And something a little...Superior.

For those wanting Spidersman, check out "Spider-Geddon." You will be horrified but you won't be disappointed.

Want to read along with us? Here ya go! We read "Superior Spider-Man" #32-33, "Edge of Spider-Verse" (Vol. 1) #1-5 and "Amazing Spider-Man" (2014) #7-15. For completeness's sake, they also read "Spider-Verse" #1-2, "Spider-Verse Team-Up" #1-3, and because they really wanted to roll deep "Scarlet Spiders" #1-3, "Spider Woman" (2014) #1-4, "Spider-Man 2099" (2014) #6-8, and "Free Comic Book Day: Guardians of the Galaxy" (2014) #1. Don't ask for an actual reading order. It's all kind of a mess.

Next time, "Captain America" (2012) #1-10. Simple! Easy! You probably don't even have to read it.

Kevin and guest Elias Rosner in part one tackle the debuts of new miniseries "Nebula," and "Ant-Man," as well as the launch of Al Ewing and Juann Cabal's "Guardians of the Galaxy." In part two the pair review "X-Men" #5 and #6 alongside "X-Men/Fantastic Four #1 and discuss the state of Dawn of X now that every book has a full arc behind them.

Kevin breaks down the plethora of Marvel news from the last few weeks and gets you ready for the month of April when "Children of the Atom," "Empyre," and a new "Black Widow" ongoing launches right before her solo film debut. In the back half of the episode Brian, Vince, and Zach of the DC3Cast return to give their thoughts on January 2020 Dawn of X books.

Kevin and guests Elias Rosner and Jake Hill take a look at some of Marvel's biggest news of the last week discussing the reveal of "X-Factor" from the creative team of Leah Williams and David Baldeón and all the books spinning out of "Outlawed" in March. The trio review "Iron Man 2020" #1, "Hawkeye: Freefall" #1, and "Thor" #1 in part 2 of the episode!

Kevin and guest, Multiversity Comics Manager-at-Large Jake Hill, break down Marvel's big prequel for 2020 and last big hoorah of the last decade: "Incoming!" #1. The pair discuss the issue in depth, it's implications, and what might be coming with "Empyre" in April. In part two of the episode Brian, Vince, and Zach of the DC3Cast return to give their thoughts on the third and fourth issues of all the Dawn of X books.

Kevin welcomes guest Elias Rosner back to the show to hit up Marvel's last wave of big news for the decade including two new Dawn of X books and thoughts about whatever "Empyre" might end up being. The pair then cap off 2019 with some finales as they review "Gwenpool Strikes Back" #5, "Guardians of the Galaxy" #12, and "King Thor" #4.

In our first December 2019 episode, host Kevin Gregory gives his first reaction to the newly released Black Widow trailer (spoiler alert: it's kind of meh?) before moving on to other Marvel news from the month of December like the new "Nebula" book. The second part of the show is the second installment of "Imagine What If Stan Lee Created the DC3Cast" as Brian, Vince, and Zach dissect the second month of the Dawn of X books. 

Kevin welcomes guests Elias Rosner and Jake Hill this episode who are filling in for Jess. The trio tackle a couple of Marvel's milestone books of October/November "Immortal Hulk" #25 and "Silver Surfer: Black" #5 before moving in the second half of the show to their individual rankings all the first issues of the Dawn of X era.
